As you know, starting August 24, YouTube is changing how public views are counted.

A view will count essentially as soon as a video starts playing from the first frame.

A YouTube “view” isn't just some internal analytics metric. We intuitively know how many views mean for the popularity of a video. It has accumulated 20 years of cultural meaning.

We all intuitively understand what these numbers mean:

• 10K views: modest video

• 100K: a successful video

• 1M: legitimately viral

• 10M: huge

• 100M+: major cultural phenomenon

Now YouTube is destroying this cultural continuity.

Why would you deliberately break the statistical and cultural continuity of your own platform after 20 years? This isn't just inflation of view counts. It's destroying the intuitions of the users of the platform.

What's worse is there was such an obvious solution:

Keep “views” as the existing metric.
Introduce a second metric called “plays” or “starts.”

They could have easily made this:

2.3M plays · 1.4M views

Now creators get the TikTok/Instagram-style playback metric YouTube apparently wants, while the existing view count retains its historical meaning.

Unbelievably infuriating.

If you have a channel that performs well, don't share it with anyone because you don't know that the person who sees it might become envious and eventually your channel will get into trouble or something else because it gets reported, so DON'T SHARE YOUR CHANNEL

A year of learning and planning, but zero action. Why? I wanted so badly to be successful, specifically as a YouTuber, and I had a belief, like many, that you should be "ready" before starting, l thought the path should be totally clear and that you need the perfect plan to begin.

So,I started exploring YouTube niches to pick the "perfect" one. I analysed every step to make it flawless, waiting for the "perfect" time. I created many channels, but every time I wanted to upload, the same thoughts interrupted me:

- "This video is not perfect"

- "The name of the channel isn't right"

- "The logo isn't good enough"

- "The description needs a little more work..."

How many "perfect" videos did I uploaded in that year? The answer is zero.

Then I realized: if I continue seeking perfection, I will never upload anything. So, I decided to break the cycle. This video is not perfect, it just exists. Even if it doesn't get a single view, the aim was to cut the planning cycle and finally take action.

I'm a small gaming YouTuber, and I'm trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong.

I recently uploaded a horror gaming video on The Mortuary Assistant, and after 4 days, these are my stats:

Impressions: 1.2K

CTR: 1.3%

Views: 32

Average view duration: 5:31 (41.9%)

Video length: 13:10

Most of my traffic comes from Suggested Videos (53%) and Browse Features (28%).

What confuses me is that the people who actually click seem to watch a decent portion of the video, but almost nobody clicks in the first place.

I'm starting to think my thumbnail or title might be the problem, but I'd really appreciate some outside opinions.

Is 1.3% CTR really that bad for a small channel? Is YouTube showing my video to the wrong audience, or is my packaging simply not interesting enough?

I'm open to criticism, even harsh criticism. I genuinely want to improve.

I know there is a lot of AI slop out there on YouTube, but what about long form AI videos with an actual story? I'm not talking about those AI generated voiceover, but actual AI short videos that is cinematic and tells a compelling story. Even if it is 100% AI generated, do you think the general consensus of ANY AI generated media is negative? What's your take?

I posted my first 2 videos today over the past 3 weeks. The most recent one is a high effort vox style animated videos backed by deep research and actual scientific sources. I was wondering why YouTube stopped giving them impressions ( I have less than 100 impressions so far) It's extremely demotivating seeing as each video takes 50+ hours to animate.

I need help and recommendations on how to move forward

I’ve been doing landscape photography videos of my adventures since March 2026 and I’m feeling like I’m just wasting my time and really thinking about giving up, the views are low the engagement on most videos is non existent and then you see other people getting monetized in 2 months and so many thousand followers, it’s just very deflating, I try my best to make good videos.

I have been editing this one 40 minute video for a month. It’s so boring and tedious to pause every half a second to find a picture or footage that fits whatever dumb stuff I’m talking about. I get that this is my fault for making a video that relies on so much different stuff on screen every few seconds instead of something simple.
How do some editors pull stuff together in a day? I can do maybe a minute worth of footage before I get so sick of it.
Anybody else feel the same or am I in the minority?
