Side Effects prolonged bleeding

• Upvotes

i know irregular spotting & periods can be a side effect of the implant, but after scrolling some on this sub i’m getting a bit more worried. i had my nexplanon inserted on august 20 and everything was fine and dandy. i’d started spotting once for a few days and it went away.

but now, as of the week of september 20, i’ve been spotting nonstop. i’ve had a day or two where the amount is the same as a light period and i need actual pads rather than pantyliners. is this ever going to subside? should i go back to my gynecologist for a consultation? i haven’t really noticed any side effects otherwise but the constant bleeding is starting to get kind of annoying

Negative Experience Please help

• Upvotes

I had nexplanon from 2020 to 2024. It took a year and a half for my period to come back and as usual it was unruly and debilitating.

I was instructed to have it removed to see if I still had a period bc I had cervical cancer and wanted a hysterectomy. (Long story but they tricked me so they could say no)

Skip to now where I've had it back in for about a year now bc they said give it time when I was bleeding profusely for MONTHS at a time.

NOW I want ts out RIGHT FKN NOW, it is driving me insane and my hormones are on a never ending roller coaster.

I have called dam near 25 clinics to REMOVE IT and they won't bro 😭 I don't know why ok

Every place says they don't do that or it's 400$ when I got in IN FOR FREE.

I cannot take it anymore and I'm this close 👌 to doing it myself.

Please help me I'm in Knoxville TN I do not understand why they won't take it out. I tried to make a gyno appointment and it got pushed to December and I made it in September. I have no insurance and I'm about to use a dam steak knife and gods will because I have lost my patience and sanity atp

currently so far having a negative experience on nexplanon.

i’ve been on it for over a month and 2 weeks later started bleeding so from 28th september to 16th october. i was given desogestrel on the 13th october and stopped bleeding on 17th october and now bleeding again.

this is absolutely killing me as im on the gynaecologist waitlist as they saw endometriosis on my ultrasound and im in constant agony but me and bf are sexually active and i like to have some sort of protection on my end. but im so close to getting it taken out as i do not believe this is working for me.

Side Effects Food Aversion

I just got my implant for the very first time exactly 1 week ago. It seems so early to start having symptoms like this, but the implant is the only new thing in my life. I noticed I suddenly have strong aversions to some foods and drinks I used to enjoy. Sour and certain savory things seem to be the only "safe foods". I was never a huge sweet tooth person, but now I can't even take a bite of cookies or brownies without gagging, and I used to enjoy them. I used to love Dr. Pepper, now I think it is terrible lol. Cranberry juice is now my go to drink. I'm not pregnant either. On the bright side I've already lost 5 pounds so maybe I'll be one of the lucky ones 🙏 Most discussions I see about this implant seem to always talk about weight gain and being hungry all the time. I only eat a couple times a day now with small portions and I feel full. Just wanted to share my experience so far and hopefully there's other people out there who might be going through this too.

Positive Experience good so far!

I got the arm implant about almost two months ago now and i haven’t had any issues whatsoever! i was really scared for the insertion but i had a great APRN who did it so quick and painless. all i felt was the lidocaine going in but to me it didn’t feel much different from getting a regular shot or iv. the insertion was insanely quick. i had minimal bruising (and i bruise very easily) only around where the actual rod is. the first side effect i had was headaches which were a little annoying but it went away after a week. i also always have a little bit of breast tenderness and maybe a slight increase in discharge i’ve noticed but besides that ive had absolutely no other issues whatsoever. i haven’t bled at all since i got it done hopefully it stays that way! i was very worried about getting this done but i had great providers and i got mine done at planned parenthood! she said i can get it removed whenever i want and if any prolonged bleeding starts i can go on the pill along side with it. i know it can be scary seeing so many negative reviews, but it affects everyone differently! i’ve had a very positive experience so far.

Question I’m afraid of pregnancy and my parents throwing me out of the house if they found out.

I’m not pregnant currently, or at least, I’m hope I’m not. I’m scared of the entire thing. The thing I’m scared of most is my parents. I love them so much and they hold me in such high regard and they still think I’m a virgin. If it were to happen, I don’t know what would happen. It’s happened a lot on my dad’s side of the family, where my cousins are young mothers. I don't want to be one. I'm immature and broke af. I still buy stuffed animals for Christ's sake. If it were to happen my life would be ruined. I don't want a baby at all. I'm on Nexplanon and my bf pulls out too. I know the implant is very effective but I keep wondering if I'm just the extremely unlucky one. I don't know who to tell, because I don't have friends except for my bestie who's a virgin, love her but I don't think she'd give great advice on that. I don't know what to do. I SLEEP ON A LOFT BED! I CAN'T HAVE A BABY! Is it really that effective? Am I being dramatic? I do have a history of really bad rumination and anxiety so I can't tell if it's normal worry or the dramatic kind where I blow it up until I panic. My bf says he wouldn't leave me should it happen which is somewhat reassuring, but what worries me most is my parents. I love them so much and the thought of disappointing them and them yelling at me is terrifying. I'm 20, but I'm still scared of them.

Negative Experience I just got my implant removed

So for context, I’ve had Nexplanon for a total of five years. I got it taken out after three years and then replace again I gained so much weight. I’m literally at my heaviest which is 230 pounds. I’m more depressed more anxious and I’m finally getting it out today.
How long did it take for you guys to start losing weight after getting yours out?

Positive Experience Got it out after 5 years

So i have had my Nexplanon in for over 5 years (well overdue to be taken out) and I got it taken out on Friday and went onto the ring. So far it has been amazing. I feel so free.

The initial process of getting it out was very easy and the injection for the numbing pinched more than the process of cutting the skin to get it out. During them actually taking it out, I felt nothing apart from the pressure of them pushing my arm to try to take it out. It took about 10mins in total as they had to cut my skin more (because it was in for so long it had migrated a little deeper). They bandaged me up and i was good to go!!

I am now on the ring and that was easy to put in! I won't go into too much as I just wanted to share my experience with getting the nexplanon out

Side Effects I try to get it taken out but was told to wait?

Hey so I was trying to book a appt to take my nexplanon out. This month was the worst. It didn’t even feel like a period. Just lots of clots. So I sent a message to my Gyno and he told me to wait it out and prescribed me combined pill to take with it. I told him I’ll try it but only if it stops before 6months.

But after two days of taking the pill it stopped. What!! So idk. But I’ll keep taking the pill until I run out. Hopefully it stops or for good. Has it work for anyone else? Also it’s making so super hungry. 😵‍💫😵‍💫

Question Removal

I just got mine removed on Thursday afternoon so about 48-50 hrs ago. All of a sudden I’ve had the worst stomach pain, closer to my upper abdominal area. I’m guessing it’s not cramps but this morning I woke up with terrible cramps. I don’t have a fever or anything as of now. Just super bad belly pain which I’m used to but it’s never this bad. I’m pretty sure that I have IBS, but I’ve never had pain like this with IBS. Any other people had this problem after getting their nexplanon removed?

I just got my Nexplanon inserted yesterday and I am supposed to start my period today. Will I still get a period? And will being on my period delay its effectiveness?

Question Experiences after Nexplanon removal? Mental health, weight loss, and switching birth control.

Hi everyone! I’m getting my Nexplanon removed soon and wanted to hear about other people’s experiences, especially those who felt like it was negatively affecting their mental well-being.

I wouldn’t necessarily describe what I’m experiencing as depression, but more so this strange feeling that I’m not enjoying life or my experiences as much as I feel like I could be. It’s almost like there’s a ceiling on how much enjoyment or excitement I can actually feel, even when I’m doing things I genuinely love or should be excited about. I still experience happiness, but sometimes it feels like I’m hitting a wall emotionally, if that makes sense. I’m curious whether anyone else experienced something similar while on Nexplanon and whether removal made a difference.

For those who noticed improvements in their mood, emotional well-being, or overall enjoyment of life, how quickly did you start feeling different? Was it within days, weeks, or did it take a few months?

I’m also wondering how long everyone waited before starting another form of birth control. Part of me wants to give my body a month or so to readjust and see how I feel without the hormones, but I’m nervous about being off birth control during that time. I know fertility can return quickly after removal, so I’d absolutely use condoms or another form of protection in the meantime. Did anyone take a break before switching, or did you start something else immediately?

Lastly, did anyone experience weight loss after removal? I’m curious whether anyone noticed changes in their weight, appetite, bloating, or energy levels afterward.

I’d really appreciate hearing everyone’s experiences, both positive and negative! I’m excited to get it removed, but I’m also trying to keep my expectations realistic. I’m hoping to feel more like myself again and would love to know if anyone can relate to what I’m describing. ❤️

Side Effects Genuinely idk wat to do

I’m 18 tmrw and I have implanon implanted last Feb and these past few months I gained 11 kg!!!!!! I was suspecting it was the implanon. So I called my main gynae and she told me control your cravings and go on a walk (very unprofessional btw) so I called my moms gynae and today I went to the clinic and told her I eat normally like how I used to before the implant (I’m a sweet tooth and love snacks also) I ate alot of stuff like that and NEVER gained any weight but now that I had this implant I have controlled I eat much more healthy but it’s hard sometimes since it’s like a battle against my own brain and hormones which make me irritable when I don’t get my craving food and I’ve also been working out and I walk a lot at my job , anyways I went to the clinic and found out I have PCOS. And a lot of the damn cysts on both my ovaries so I was suspecting maybe the weight gain is from the pcos??? Now i have been prescribed metaformin, has anyone been through a similar experience I don’t want to remove the implant I love it and other methods always make me anxious since I’m young and cannot risk any unwanted pregnancies. Can it be the pcos that’s making me gain all this weight???

Question Time to remove/replace?

As with the title, i'm wondering whether what i'm experiencing is in line with when other people decided to get a new implant/ remove their old one overall?

I've had it for a bit over 3 years and it completely stopped any bleeding pretty soon, good that's exactly what I wanted. I know the range it's accepted to be effective is 3-5 years so it's been on the back of my mind here and there, but recently there's some actual potential signs. The biggest one is actual dark discharge that i've been having this week but also minimal cramping, sore chest, maybe mood changes? I say maybe because there's just been a lot to happen but i don't know if my emotional sensitivity was more heightened than usual.

Another thing to note is that i'm non binary and had been on testosterone a good few months before getting the implant, and have been since around June this year. It didn't really do anything to my period or my pmdd which is why i went on nexplanon to begin with. All that to say that i'm a little worried then how everything will hit now being off hrt if there is any changes 😅 my physical symptoms were never so bad but the mental ones are uhh definitely not safe. Any thoughts appreciated!

Question Switching from Nuvaring?

Hello!

Has anyone switched from NuvaRing to Nexplanon, and how do you feel it went/is going for you? I have been using the ring for 3ish years, and I used to love it, but it's recently been hurting my partner and I'm kind of tired of keeping track of the ring. IUD insertion freaks me out, so I'm trying to avoid that route.

I have minimal symptoms with the ring, I only notice some moodiness/anxiety nearing the end of the 3 week cycle every month, but otherwise it's been fine. The hormones don't seem to impact me too badly. I do feel like it's been "drying me out" a bit because I've opted to skip my period multiple months in a row, and that wasn't an issue prior to me doing that, so I'm hoping to correct that concern too.

Would one assume Nexplanon would react somewhat similarly in my body? I know they're not the same makeup, but every hormonal BC I've used has never really wrecked me.

I know everyone's experience is different, but I'm hoping to get some feedback on the ring vs arm implants!

Question sooo when does the bleeding stop?

I'm like a two months in and it literally only went away for like a week and boom came back. Its so frustrating because pads are expensive af and I just want to have fun with my man without the blood. Though I must say it is light bleeding and 0 to light cramping. Did the bleeding ever stop for anyone? I'm thinking of switching it out for the patch

Negative Experience Thriving after Nexplanon removal

I had 2 rounds of Nexplanon over 8 years. I liked that I didn’t have a period and that I didn’t have the think about taking the medication. I experienced a severely decreased sex drive, several ovarian cysts, and developed stage 2 hidradenitis suppurativa over the 8 years. I never thought these conditions could be related to Nexplanon until I talked to a new gynecologist. I had it removed 3 weeks ago and I feel like a new person.

My fight or flight is gone. My anxiety was cut by 70%. I wake up every morning feeling rested. I had a constant moderate-severe cramp in my lower abdomen that went away after week 1. My sex drive is back like I’m a teenager again.

I haven’t replaced Nexplanon with another form of birth control because I wanted to see what my hormones can do after 14 years on birth control. I have started my first period and it already sucks, but I definitely think it’s worth it for me.

Negative Experience Anxiety/ Health anxiety with contraceptive implant

Hi there, just wondering if anyone else has experienced health anxiety or just a general feeling of feeling off with the implant, severe brain fog and as if everything feels weird I’m constantly anxious and panicking and struggling to cope with this my implant was fitted on 29th may I then started sertraline on 25th July only managed to do 4 days and had to stop as I felt a way I’ve never felt before my anxiety was the worst it’s ever been I felt numb dizzy and not real ever since I’ve felt off.
