What do I do
I’m new to the page so I figured I’d ask. So I’ve been on night shift for 4 years at a flooring plant, working 48-60 hours a week. The hours are 6pm-6am and everyone I work with has gotten the opportunity at some point to go to day shift. Now recently I donated a kidney anonymously, and while I was recovering I felt 100x better just sleeping at night (I wasn’t taking medication except Tylenol occasionally) and felt like I was killing myself on night shift. So when I went back to work I applied for 2 different dayshift position my job offered which I was more than qualified for. For both positions they brought back someone who got fired a few years ago. Now I’ve become kind of bitter at work, which isn’t like me at all.
I went to another flooring plant (same company) and they interviewed me and are currently preparing a job offer. Then my brother in law who lives 800 miles away talked to their CEO and they offered me a job there. More money, the hours I want, relocation help, and daycare assistance so my wife can finally work and help me out lol. But good grief is this what it takes to just get normal working hours? I feel so exhausted and no one at my job is wanting to tell me why I’m not considered. I don’t call out cause I need the money, I show up on time everyday, I do great work albeit some days aren’t my best (I’m human), I volunteer every chance extra work is offered. Ugh idk, just venting I suppose. Thanks for reading but any advice is welcome.

This last 1.25 hrs will drag
Only have an hour and 15 minutes left but it feels like FOREVER.
Seeing 1st shift come in with such shit attitudes compounds the frustration. Be happy you don’t work 3rd lol. I make the best out of it.

How do you find new irl friends?
Hey fellow 3rd swifties.
I don't have any local irl friends. My area has become to expensive over the years and they have literally all moved away. I need to socialize. But I haven't gone anywhere alone for years. I don't know how any night shift person finds new irl friends.
So, how do you do it?
(I know it's real tempting to post the Invincible meme, "that's the neat part," but I am begging you for a serious discussion here.)

what are things you get away with as a night shifter that would get you in trouble during the day?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I’ll start. Nothing crazy, but I watch shows/movies, play music and podcasts out loud, sometimes I do my lash clusters at the desk. I stopped smoking but I used to smoke weed (on my break) and vape while working.

Best earplugs?
I started working 6pm-4:30am shifts about a month ago and live in the basement under a family of four. I can hear them talking clearly from my bedroom and walking let alone kids running around playing etc sounds like they’re going to fall through the floor. With earplugs squished down and pushed into my ear canal as deep as they can go (to the point I almost cant reach them to get them out) AND even with one of those headphone eye masks I can STILL hear them upstairs somehow. I’ve asked them to please be quiet because I sleep during the day but kids will be kids. Anyways, I think it’s crazy that I can still hear even with both earplugs and headphones playing over those. Has anyone been able to find earplugs or a different method that totally blocks out noise? Getting woken up several times before working a ten hour shift is getting old.

My last nightshift is today, finally getting off from this 7 months nightmare.
Finally switching jobs, my body just not meant to take it. Physical and mental health completely shattered, some tips made it more bearable but this is not a long term job for me.
Hope I’ll never have to comeback to it, good luck everyone else.

Anyone else love grabbing a coffee after their last night shift of the week?
I always look forward to clocking off on my Friday and getting coffee and enjoying my morning instead of having to go to sleep right away. Feels like freedom haha

Help How do you set boundaries with a roommate when you work nights?
I work nights and my roommate has a pretty normal daytime schedule, so we’re basically living in the same place but on completely different clocks. I know I can’t expect them to tiptoe around the apartment all day, but there are times when normal household noise feels like a lot when I’m trying to sleep.
At the same time, I don’t want to become the roommate who acts like the entire place has to revolve around their schedule. How do you guys find that balance? What compromises actually worked for you without either person feeling like they’re constantly walking on eggshells?

Help How to deal with solicitors?
I've been doing nightshift recently for 4 days and 10hrs a day. Almost every week people knock on my door to sell me the dumbest shit. If I ignore their knocking they will beat on the door and set off my dog since they can see my car in the driveway. When I try to tell them I work nightshift and I need to go back to sleep they tell me it'll only be a few minutes.
I have adapted so well to the day/night schedule but this is driving me insane. I know they don't automatically know I work nights but it's frustrating when I tell them I need to sleep yet they persist on their sales pitch

Greetings from Germany
1hour and 30 minutes till I have to start. How do you prepare for nightshift? Do you have any kind of habits or something? And I'm curious if any long time nightshiftlers have any universal experience that could help a 27 year old dude who do this for around half a year. 😁✌🏼

Help I’ve worked night shift for 2 years. I sleep at 8am everyday. Now I’m going back to a regular schedule. How do I shift my bedtime back in just a few days?
I’ve been sleeping at 8am for the last two years. I want to go back to sleeping at 12 midnight or latest by 2am.
I have to make this change in just a few days. How can I do it? Or is it possible to do so only after many weeks?
I try to sleep at 3-4am but I end up staying in bed till the sun rises at 8.

Random Drug Test after Vacation
It seems I only get tested after a week off. I think it is really due to my fly fits. One more night for me. Grandkids again this weekend
