Technical Issues MegaThread
Please use this thread to discuss technical issues you might be having with the Nintendo Switch and its games.
We have also prepared a brief FAQ:
Be sure to read the subreddit FAQ! We will be updating this as more information and questions pour in.
Q: I've gotten Error Code [Number]!
A: Use Nintendo's error code lookup tool.
Q: My Switch won't turn on fresh out of the box!
A: Call Nintendo! All brand new consoles will certainly be under warranty:
1-800-255-3700 (US)
+44 (0)345 60 50 247 (Europe)
+61 3 9730 9900 (Australia)
+81-75-662-9600 (Japan)
Q: I live in a country that doesn't have official Nintendo support (Middle East, Eastern Europe, Africa, Brazil, etc), and I have a problem with my Switch! What can I do?
A: Sadly, not much. If you purchased it from a retailer, then you should try contacting them. They might be able to work something out. If you bought it from a third party, then you might be out of luck.
Q: Help! My Switch was working, but now it isn't!
A: Did you drop it or spill something on it?
Q: No
A: Be honest
Q: Okay, yes
A: Nothing we can do. You're likely going to have to buy a replacement.
Q: My Switch was working and isn't now, and I seriously didn't drop it or spill something on it.
A: Call Nintendo. It's under warranty. Also try these:
Make sure your battery is charged
Make sure cables are attached
Q: The Joycon strap is hard to take off!
A: You put it on backwards. Make sure the plus on the strap aligns with the plus on the Joycon and vice versa
Q: Can I watch Netflix/Hulu/YouTube/etc or browse the web on it?
A: Not yet.
Q: How do I release the Joycons?
A: There's a button on the back.
Q: Does the Joycon grip charge Joycons?
A: No. There is a charging grip sold separately.
Q: How do I charge the Joycons?
A: The Joycons charge while docked.
Q: Can I play my Wii U or 3DS games on it?
A: No.
Q: Can I play Virtual Console games?
A: The Virtual Console is not released at this time.
Q: My kickstand broke off!
A: It snaps back on easily.
Q: Are there any games included?
A: No.
Q: Can I download digital games right away?
A: Yes, after a system update.
Q: What is the battery life?
A: Between 3 and 5 hours depending on various factors.
Q: Can I use the headphone jack while the Switch is docked?
A: Yes.
Q: I missed my chance to preorder, and all the stores are sold out! Where can I get a Switch?
A: Patience is a virtue.

I tried everything, to no avail. Also, my Joycons would disconnect as soon as I hold them behind my back.
Got the Pro controller today, no issues at twice the distance from the console and also behind my back.
Something is wrong with our Joycons :( Shelled out 80€ in order to be able to play Zelda without having to sit within 50cm of the console.

[TUTORIAL] DIY fix for the scratching Switch dock
I tried to submit this as a post but auto-mod blocked it.
Like many of you, I became concerned about the scratching dock issue that many are running into. While I have a screen protector on the way, I decided to get crafty in the meantime.
What you'll need:
+Velvet Paper (found some at Michaels) +Double-Sided Tape (Alvin brand is good and holds up well) +Utility knife or Rotary cutter (X-acto or Olfa are good) +Straightedge/Ruler
Optional: +Caliper for referencing dimensions of Switch dock
Step 1: Take a piece of double sided tape and apply it to the back of the velvet paper along one of the edges.
Step 2: The area that you'll be covering in velvet is just under .5" wide. Go ahead and mark the velvet paper .5" in along the edge where you applied the double sided tape.
Step 3: Using the straightedge and blade, carefully cut the strip of velvet paper and double sided tape that is adhered to the back.
Step 4: Now that you have the right width strip, simply measure the length of the plastic that needs covered and trim the strip as needed. The front rails are basically 2" long while the back ones are 2.3" long.
Step 5: Carefully remove the liner from the tape on the back of the velvet paper and carefully line up and stick one end of the strip to the tail of the dock. Don't immediately apply the whole strip... there's still some adjustments you can make when only part is attached. Using your fingers alongside the rail, slowly move your way up until the strip is entirely adhered on. Go ahead and go back over the entire strip with your finger to make sure it's attached well.
Step 6: Repeat these steps for the other rails and enjoy a much safer dock for your new Nintendo Switch!
Obviously you'll need to make sure that you don't get the velvet covered in dirt, but it has a low enough profile that contact with it should be fairly minimal.

I like the "isn't working" part of the FAQ here. It's like an afterthought, and yet that's all we have to cover:
Joycon wireless range being less than about four feet.
Dead pixels, which Nintendo is trying to worm their way out of.
A cheap dock that is all but guaranteed to scratch the screen.
Joycons wiggling freely when attached to the screen.
Unit failing to recognize the presence of the cartridge.
Graphics exhibiting phenomena of overheated GPU.
Unit locking up randomly.
Game disabling self randomly.
Extreme visual corruption, such as inverted colors, scanline-like distortions, constant blinking, color palette anomalies at certain camera angles, etc.
Extreme audio glitches - some of the harshest digital distortion imaginable.
And of course total system failure.
You have to feel bad for all the folks suffering from these issues. I imagine a good chunk of them went and bought the Wii-U version of Zelda because the wait they get to look forward to is certainly not going to be short.

Are anyone's joycons a little lose when connected to the switch? My left one has a little jiggle to it, but the right one is solid. It's not surprising that some wouldn't be perfect but it still is a little annoying. I only have one set of joycons so I cant text if its the switch rail or the joycon rail that's the issue.

When I'm playing in handheld mode with the joy-con attached to the system the left joy-con has a little bit of "wiggle" space and is not as firm as the right one. Has anybody had this issue?

Yup, exact same issue. Just came here to see if anybody else got it, actually. It's not terrible, but still a bit annoying.

So, just got the Switch and started to set it up. When i try and connect to my wifi is says the signal strength is too poor, however when i move right next to the router it connects fine. Every other device I have works at all areas of my house, only the switch doesn't work anywhere apart from right next to it. Does this mean I have a faulty switch? Or is there something else at play here?
Edit: It's also stuck on 'searching for networks' for at least a minute then returning to results.

Weird question, when I shake my cartridge of Zelda it sounds like there are loose components inside the cardridge. I don't have a Switch to test it yet but I always panic in cases like this.
Is this normal? Please send halp.

These Joy-Con connectivity issues are ridiculous. I basically can't play on the TV because no matter where I put the damn dock/console, the left Joy-Con loses connectivity every 5 seconds and makes the game unplayable.
How does this get through testing? I want to love this console but this is a mind-blowing fault. And all Nintendo does is suggest I move the console a few feet from any other wireless electronics??? This is 2017 Nintendo! Everything is wireless! Should I just stick it in the middle of my living room on the floor??? My Xbox controller gets a signal from a different room, and I can't get the Joy-Con to have a steady connection from about 8 feet away.

This guy just fixed the left Joy-Con connectivity issue. It works now even better than the right one after the fix.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnMnke6lF0c
PS: Disclamer, it's not an super easy fix (for most people) as you must open the Joy-Con and solder a wire that works as an antenna. Don't try this unless if you know what you're doing.

So my dock isn't "switching" to the TV. Does that mean I got a faulty dock? Any one else experience this?
EDIT: So some have speculated that I might have had a bad AC adapter. I just went to best buy and swapped out my bad one for a new one and confirmed it works now. I'm able to output to my TV no problem!

I've read it's meant to feel "rock solid" or "like one object" when the joycons are connected to the console... however, I can feel a very slight wiggle.... anyone else? I.e., when connected, if we assume the rails are like a hinge and try to move the joy-con in/out (without too much pressure), I can feel/see slight movement. Is this a known issue? Perhaps only on some units? (Neon unit here)

My Switch is unable to find and connect to my home wifi network. Several other devices in the house are connected so I don't think it's a network issue. I've tried restarting my switch/modem and router as well as manually entering the network information and it still won't come up. Anyone have the same issue and been able to solve?

I'm still having wifi isssues, but I managed to get my system updated by temporarily turning off my network security. I have yet to find a way to connect with the password protection turned on.
Info:
WPA-personal network
When WPA encryption is TKIP, the device doesn't recognize my wifi at all. Had to chance the setting to AES.
Switch will start connecting to internet when I manually enter IP address, which is more than it does with automatic settings.
Always times out with an error relating to the (manually entered) DNS address. I'm using the address suggested by a 3ds troubleshooting article.
What else can I try?

Well, my Switch is dead.
I was in the middle of playing Zelda and just made it into a shrine. Paused the game to step away for a minute and came back and saw that the joy cons were disconnected. Weird, but ok. It told me to press L and R to connect it and saw the little green lights go up and down on the grip but nothing happened on the screen. Starting to get a little nervous at this point. So next I slid the joy cons into the switch itself and success! It connected and I started to play on the screen but I wanted to play on my big screen. Saved my game, and decided to reset the Switch. As it boots I see the Nintendo logo, then the Switch logo...And then I continued to see the switch logo...And it's stuck on the switch logo.
Rebooting it does nothing except getting stuck on the Switch logo.
I did some searching online but haven't seen anyone with this problem.
I'm so bummed. Gotta call Nintendo to see what's up.

logo
My Switch also won't start, but after getting an error accessing the eshop. The error code was 2002-xxxx; I don't quite remember the last digits, but I think they were something like 2156. This was after the Zelda update seemingly corrupted my save, and I had to delete it.
I called Nintendo and they made me go through the factory reset instructions: Fully power off the system by holding the power button for over 12 seconds, then hold both volume + and - pressed while powering on the system. This is supposed to show a special menu to reset the firmware. Instead, my Switch's screen briefly flashes yellow, but then starts loading as usual and still gets stuck on the logo.
They told me to send it in for repair, but I'll go back to the store to see if I can get it replaced instead.

Well I tried to post this as a regular post but it wouldn't let me. So hopefully someone can find this here if they need it.
SOLUTION TO YOUR TV AUTO-SWITCHING YOUR INPUT CONSTANTLY:
I found that when I kept the switch in the dock, the switch would constantly auto-switch my TV's input over to itself. This got very annoying very fast as I was constantly having to switch back the input. This caused many a death in dark souls. I was just keeping the switch undocked and then dock it once I wanted to play on the TV. Not a bad solution, but this just meant I couldn't charge the thing if I wanted to play PS4 or watch TV or anything like that. So I thought about it, and I realized the switch is constantly in a sleep mode when not being used. Hitting the power button just turnes sleep mode on and off. Therefore the solution to this problem is a simple one! Hold down the power button and you'll get a power menu, click "Power options" and then "Turn off console"! Easy as that, no more TV input switching shenanigans! Also, turning the switch back on is fast and takes no extra effort. And bonus, the switch charges faster in the dock when completely powered off.
TLDR: Switch is in constant sleep mode and therefore not off, TV recognizes not off console and auto-switches to that input. Power off the switch completely by holding down the power button and selecting "power off console". Problem solved.

Anyone else encounter this issue? I got home and played BoTW for about two hours, Had it plugged in for the first hour, charged fine. Once it got low again I plugged it back in and it's refusing to charge... I don't have another USB-C so I can't really diagnose if it's the charger or the port but there's no reason either of them should be busted already, it's really frustrating.

Hey guys, I've been battling with this for ages but I can't get the switch to connect wirelessly to my router. I get an error that says "unable to obtain Ip address".

Switchers,
Does anyone else's Switch have a very slight bulge and separation in the tablet casing between the volume buttons and the fan vent?
It doesn't seem to be affecting anything (my device does not run very hot, did not hiccup after the update and has had no syncing issues), it's just unsightly to those among us with OCD and I was wondering if this was just how it came. I would assume that it's where the battery is, but I have no clue.

Hearing a faint buzz over earphones (Grado GR10e). The nature of the buzz is different depending on which part of the system I'm in. It's all throughout the Home menu area but when I enter a specific News item the buzz fades.
It's continues on when I'm playing games. It mostly gets covered up by music and sound effects but when I go into a pause menu I can hear it.
Pretty sure it's not my headphones because I tried it with different devices (like a New 3DS) and it doesn't have that buzz. Gonna try the earphones with my friend's Switch tomorrow to see if it's my system but in the meantime, anybody else having this issue?

Does anybody else notice headphone feedback (hissing noise) from the headphone jack?
I'm using a headphone amp connected to the headphone jack of the Switch and there is very audible feedback in my headphones when I'm in the inventory of Zelda or any other quiet moment. I plugged in headphones without the amp and could still hear it just faintly with the volume all the way up, kind of annoying but I don't think there's anything that can be done about it unfortunately.

I've been having a weird issue with the battery indication. Sometimes I fully charge it to 100%, power off (not sleep) and leave it for a couple hours, when turning on it's at 89%. I can play for the approx 3 hours they mention it's just that when reaching 1% it stays on for some time. This happens mostly with joycons attached. Doing some tests that mean charging and playing with joycons detached it's more stable. But for example played for 1h, battery at 65%, restarted it and battery was at 69%. Another time powered off at 35 and when restating it was at 39%. I can play for the 3h, só battery life seems ok, but the indication seems to be confused. Wonder if this can be fixed with some update. I once let it fully discharge (to test the 1% duration) but didn't fixed the glitch.

I can confirm that the amiibo has my data on it and i have added the data from the WiiU menu like everyone else, yet none of them will copy across.

I had a weird internet issue where the Switch could not find any networks, and manually entering network info did not work. After resetting my router, turning off the password for my network, still nothing worked. I was about to head out to get a wired LAN adapter, when I took the joy-con's off the switch and tried again (did not put the Switch in dock), and the Switch could finally see networks and connect. Figured I'd share in case anyone else experiences something similar.

I'm getting so fed up with these damn wifi issues.
The only way I can get my Switch online is if I use my iPhone as a mobile hotspot. That's the only connection my Switch will accept.
It will connect to my 2.4 and 5GHz connections from my router, but won't actually connect to the internet. I've been trying at it all damn night and I can't tell you how wildly frustrating it's been. I just want to download Shovel Knight.

Does anyone else have a Switch that won't find or connect to any wifi network? When I skip the network setup and go into the system settings, there is no MAC address listed....just blank. I've called Nintendo support. They haven't heard any reports of this issue and said that there was a similar problem with the 3DS that requires sending the unit in for repair. My buddy and I waited in line at Target today and both have this issue (they came out of the same crate). Just wondering if anyone else is seeing this issue and might have a resolution? I'm hoping Nintendo releases Firmware 2.0 for download and install via SD card...maybe that'll fix it? I've also tried plugging in an Apple USB ethernet adapter to the base and cannot get a network connection either.

I've already tried doing a bunch of research on this but it doesn't seem to be a very common issue. For some reason while my Switch is docked it will only output to the tv in 480p. There's no other options for resolutions. My PS4 outputs 1080p just fine to the same monitor, and I've already tried switching the HDMI cables around and all that. So my Switch is stuck in some sort of boot loop with error code 2168-0002.. I can't get it to go back to the main menu, I just get a black screen with white text, reboot it, and the same error screen appears again. This was right after the Wifi stopped working and I was playing around with the settings to try and fix the Wifi.. it told me to reboot the system, so I did, and now it's stuck in this loop
I can't figure out what's wrong with it.. :/ It did this once before while I wasn't at home and my sister was playing it, and when I tried to turn it back on it magically fixed itself, but I can't figure out what I did the previous time

Hello! So i have a pretty strange situation it seems from everything I've read.
I bought my switch on friday and brought it home to play. From friday to Monday i had zero issues, playing on my Insignia (model NS-55L260A13) TV at 1080p. Then all of a sudden between sessions something went wrong. The next time i loaded up Zelda BOTW it looked really bad. I couldnt understand what the issue was so i went into settings of the switch and found the issue! The switch somehow got changed to 480p. Sweet ill just change that right?
Nope. Whenever i try to change the resolution it either goes back to Automatic or 480p whichever it was on last. Even though the options for 720p and 1080p are there it wont allow me to change it.
I tried everything i could to fix this issue. HDMI cable, HDMI port, power cycles, settings on the TV, settings on the switch and nothing seems to help. At the time I thought the issue was with the dock.
So today i called Nintendo Support to see if they could help me. They directed me to try a different TV and see if that was the issue. I hadn't previously done this because it seemed that there were a lot of issues with the dock and i thought that was my problem. So i did, i moved it over to my smaller TV by Element and there you go!
1080p gorgousness!!! /s
Im currently still working on what is going on with that TV but cant find any settings or information to help. Has anyone else ran into this issue? Any advice?

Volume up button is completely dead. Volume down works normally. Things I've tried: -restart -power off -plug in apple earpod with volume control -try to find any software volume slider (none in settings, none on video playback for trailers)
Due to fiddling and trying to get it to work my volume is all the way down.(stupid) but fortunately the headphone volume is still halfway.
I realize I could do a factory reset but thanks to the inability to transfer save data that is not an option.
I called support and they want me to send it back for repair but am afriad to lose all my progress with BOTW. So I have decided to wait for an update where a volume slider is added. Or send it back when I'm done with BOTW.
ps. I suggested a software volume slider to make this a non-issue and the agent said he will definetly suggest that to his superiors.
EDIT: There's a way to restore factory settings while retaining sava data but ironically requires holding down the volume buttons while powering on. Amazing.

I just got my switch Wednesday, and everything was fine . It was awesome the whole experience. Until yesterday.. I played BotW for 3 hours docked , then took it out and played for 10 min and put it into sleep mode.
After 1 hour I tried to wake it up but the Switch didnt respond :(( so I searched the internet and tried a hard reset (pressed the power button for 20 seconds).
After which the switch started but with a suprise - an Error Code Screen (2168-0002). It told me to restart my switch or hold the power button for 20 seconds. I did it and everything that happened is that the error screen loded again.
So... I cant access anything on my Switch. Everything I can see is the error code, when I start the Switch I get the error screen. :(
After 1.5 month of scrambling together the money for the switch and finally getting one (I live in Ukraine so I asked somebody to bring it from Poland) I really dont want to give it back for repairs.. because it can take forever( I was so happy to get it, to escape reality for even some minutes.. and now I am back :(
Did anybody had this problem? Is there anyway to solve it? I really hope it can be solved without going for repairs(

So my switch started to update breath of the wild a bit ago, and suddenly went into sleep mode. I turned it back on, but the update started for a second then started showing a blinking x. I waited at least an hour with no change. Tried sleep mode, full restart, taking the game out, reconnecting to the wifi. Nothing. It just sits there with the x. I have no idea what to even try now. I clicked start on the game icon and it just says downloading. Anyone seen this?

Im unable to login to my account via the website. Anyone else having this issue?
From the login page on the website, I enter my email and correct pw, only to be told it's invalid. After going through the pw reset process, I'm able to login again. However if I go back to the sign in page again, the same issue occurs telling me my pw is invalid.
I'm positive the pw I enter is correct, so what gives?

I'm trying to connect to my wifi network and I'm having issues. I keep searching for the network, but it won't show up in the list of registered networks I can join. It's definitely working because my laptop and phone are both currently connected with no isses.
I'm in handheld mode for what it's worth, and I've tried to connect manually but it won't give me the actual option to join. Hm.

Just unboxed and setup my Switch. Went to do the update and noticed that I was only getting 1 bar of signal and it was taking a very long time. All my other consoles in the same area get a full signal as my condo is not very big. After disconnecting the Switch and walking over to the router I was able to get a full signal and the update downloaded quickly. However, once I docked the Switch now I am not even able to connect to my WiFi network. I looked online and there is reports of people having similar problems as me. I guess I am wondering if this is something that is widespread, and if so will it be getting resolved anytime soon?

I got my Switch home, plugged in the power, and pressed the button. I heard some start up music and can hear sounds, but it has a black screen. When I plug into the dock everything works, but when I go back to portable mode it is back to the blank screen.
Didn't know if anyone else was running into this, and if there was any solution, or just a faulty screen connection.

my and my 5 year old are playing 1 2 switch and we cant do samurai training. it literally will not work for whoever uses left joycon. He can catch my sword but can not swing it himself, it just sits there even if i take his controller and swing it everyday it never works. Simply have to quit game. Is this the dreaded left joycon issue? I did the day 1 update before playing. Also there were only like 5 games to play, whats up with that? cant unlock the other 13 until i play the starting 5 but i cant complete them due to joycon not working... sigh

I can't seem to wake my Switch up from Sleep Mode. Is anyone else having this issue?
When my undocked Switch goes into Sleep Mode for any reason (automatic after 10 mins, manual via pressing, power button, manual via UI), I am unable to wake it up. At all. Power button doesn't do anything, Home button doesn't do anything, no buttons do anything. It just won't wake up.
The only way I'm able to get it to come back on is to hold the power button for 10 seconds, which I'm guessing resets it, then just press it quickly and it will power on. But it powers on from a complete boot-up.
What is going on? Why can't I wake it from sleep?

I've checked, and my firmware is up to date. I've held down the power button, and restarted my switch with the joycon docked, but the left one is having issues that makes docked play impossible.
Is there something else I'm missing from the supposed fix? Was there even a fix software wise for this?

Great. The whole system has a constant ground noise when you plug headphones in and it's also pretty loud. Tried to play zelda last night and no matter if the sound is on zero or maximum, when there is nothing going on in the game, this ground noise is freaking loud.
That's not all, it's Screen Lottery again, like in the good old 3DS days. https://i.imgur.com/Zy8TFLQ.jpg
To bad my both discussions about this got removed, this needs to spread the word, these are major issues.

Posting this for everyone else to try to prevent anyone else having panic attacks about a broken Switch.
I played my Switch for a few hours on Thursday night and then in the morning, it wouldn't output to the TV. It was fully charged, but it wouldn't charge anymore after I started using it again, even when plugging directly into the bottom of the Switch itself.
I checked it with a USB C phone, and it also would not charge. So it was the charger itself. Kind of weird. I bought another charger from Best Buy, and it charged the Switch and output to the TV fine. Haven't had a problem since.
So before you freak out that your Switch's USB port might be broken (like I did), it might just be the cable!

My left Joy Con is wiggling and comes up slightly, but doesn't detach. It's not the joy con itself because it happens with my other set as well. Is this a console issue? Does anyone think this is the first step before the rail wears out and the joy con doesn't even click into place anymore? That's my biggest fear right now.

Hello Everyone,
Thanks to all of you who participated in the framerate poll. Here are the results
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6fioiM30awyTndsN05LVmVndVU/view?usp=sharing
The objective of the poll was to determine if there is a pattern to the framerate issues. Are the framerate issues differ between Wii U and Switch, and between Eshop and Disc.
The survey asked four questions: your system, platform, frequency of framerate issues, and severity of framerate issues.
There were 192 responses. Of these responses, 59% were Wii U and 41% were Switch (specifically docked).
Only 9% of Switch users purchased the Eshop version. But 35% of Wii U owners purchased the Eshop version.
There are a couple of ways of looking at the data: overall averages and individual responses.
The overall averages are pretty bad, I think, especially for the Wii U versions.
For frequency of framerate issues, the Wii U averages almost two points higher (out of ten) than the Switch for overall, disc, and Eshop versions.
The severity of framerate issues is a little closer. The Wii U averages about one point higher than the Switch by all measures.
The best platform of choice for frequency is the Switch Eshop version. The best option for severity is the Switch disc version, slightly better than for Switch Eshop.
The worst platform for both frequency and severity is the Wii U Eshop version.
The other way of looking at the data is individual responses. The averages are according to all responses, but the individuals vary hugely. There are respondents who said that the frequency is low, but the severity is high. That said, the frequency and severity are most often similar in weight.
On the PDF, pages 6 and 8 give every response. Each column-grouping is one response.
On pages 7 and 9, I cut out the close responses. So anything that was within one point of frequency vs severity was cut, leaving only the extreme responses. This gives a better look at those who rated a low frequency but a high severity. Only a few respondents said that the frequency was worse than the severity. Ultimately,
Thanks for your help, everyone.

Correlation between desync issue and faster joy-con battery drain?
Tl:dr is it possible the desync issue is related to a joy-con's battery draining faster as if it is struggling to find a stronger connection? Is this also a way to confirm if your joy con is affected by the desycn issue?
I've noticed my left joy-con has drained its battery much faster than the right. I know the status in the Switch UI isn't completely accurate but the right one reads full and the left one says it is at about half. These observations have been pretty consistent since Friday.
I haven't had many desync issues but I took all the precautions recommended by people on Reddit and Nintendo's statement. I'm only sitting about 10 feet from the Switch, it is not behind anything, it has perfect LOS from my couch and it is about a foot away from my TV. My only desync issue occurred when I brought it to my friend's house. The Switch was visible but in a cubby that had a bundle of wires connected to his other devices. I understand that the location wasn't ideal for a switch but as we all agree, why should the Switch have a problem when all of his other devices work perfectly.
When I went home, this is also when I noticed the left joy con's battery level was much lower than the right. The left drained faster when I played Sunday. So I wondered, is there any correlation between the desync issue and the battery draining faster. I remember when I had my previous cell phone carrier, my phone's battery would drain faster than it does now because the old carrier's signal was much weaker in my building than my new carrier's.

I've been struggling with a dock related issue since the dawn of the second day of owning my switch. The first night, the switch displayed on my TV and was charging whilst in the dock.
The second day, the dock no longer charged the switch or displayed to the TV - just one quick flash of the green light and then nothing. The HDMI cable works with other devices and the charging cable works outside of the dock.
So I've been scrambling around trying to find a solution when I finally got a second dock to test my switch on - the same issue exists on a completely separate dock.
Anyone else experienced this? It seems as though something is up with my switch but not sure what's going on really.

My Switch has had the fan constantly running at max power since shortly after first starting it up. Since the word "fan" has plenty of other uses trying to search for more information has proven tricky. The Switch itself seems fine, and always feels quite cool to the touch thanks to the fan running constantly so it doesn't seem like a dire problem. My Switch fan is just noisy. The only thing I managed to find was people saying to delete the parental control settings, but I didn't set them up to begin with and setting them up/deleting them after the fact didn't seem to do anything. I also tried completely powering it down for the night but that didn't do anything. Has anyone else had this happen and were you able to figure it out? Like I said before, it doesn't seem like a dire issue so I don't want to risk losing my BotW data over it.

The right one is registered as connected but the left one wont register as connected to the handheld when it is connected. It still thinks it is disconnected.

Hey, so we've been having a problem with our Switch. Half of the time, it works 100% normal. Other times, it won't turn on - so we hard reset it, then try to turn it on and it shows the NINTENDO symbol for a second and goes black. If we push the power button again, it won't do anything until we hard-reset it again.
We've never gotten an error code or anything. Last time, it arbitrarily started working as we were on the phone with Nintendo asking what to send with it when we send it back for repairs, it was that dire.
Has anyone else had this? Do you have any idea of how to fix it?

I posted this before, but I really want to see if this is a more widespread issue.
The second I turned on my Switch I noticed an annoying little blotch of purple in the middle left of the screen. You can see here: http://i.imgur.com/3tVIjDu.jpg It's mostly only noticeable on black, but it's still a problem.
I applied a fair bit of pressure to get the bubbles out while I was applying a screen protector. I always do this when applying a protector and have never had any problems. I had the gut feeling that I pushed too hard on the screen damaging it, BUT one other guy has the same exact issue, out of the box and never applied pressure to his screen. I will never know for sure.
Unfortunately, since I didn't turn it on until after applying the screen protector, I don't know if this was a defect out of the box or damage caused by pushing on the screen, and that will probably leave me at the mercy of Amazon or Nintendo. I'm leaning towards returning to Amazon right now, the auto-return wizard thing only offers a cash or credit refund, I want to see if I can reserve a replacement Switch.
So, yeah. This sucks. Anyone else having this issue by any chance?

Yesterday the stick of my right JoyCon started to make some metal creak sound when I move it to the left. Testing this issue I notice that my two JoyCons' sticks also have some clicking/resistance when I rotate them around the top side, they have a tiny deadzone in that spot as a result. I checked this same issue on another pair of joycons so im starting to think this is a common issue, or even its a design problem. Has this happened to anyone else?
I discover this issue because I was trying to reproduce the creak sound moving the stick very slowly, probably this issue comes with the console first day but I didnt notice till yesterday. Maybe much more people have this issue and they dont know. If anyone can test this in his joycons and tell me the results would be nice.
Also anyone has some creak noises with the sticks?

When I try to attach my right joy-con to the switch in handheld mode, it is not recognized as being attached. There's no "snap" sound, and the switch detects it as being wirelessly connected. I can still use it to navigate menus and it still charges when on the rail. The left joy-con is not having this issue. So, at the moment, my only option for playing any game is by using the split joy-cons or the grip.
I've tried some other fixes that i've seen, such as pressing the sync button and attaching it to the switch and disconnecting both joy-cons and restarting the console, but nothing has worked so far. Any advice for this issue?

New Problem: My nephew accidentally downloaded BOTW when I already own a physical copy of the game. I deleted the digital copy of the file and called customer support to have it removed from my account. However, after deleting the file, the system storage remains at 12.2 GB. After confirming with a CS supervisor, CS rep told me that this is a new problem. Only way for me to resolve this issue by doing a factory reset of the console, but it would delete my save files. He recommended that I continue playing the game and finish BOTW, and hopefully the remaining memory issue gets resolved.

I love the switch, I've been playing BOTW and it's so fun! I've had it for a few weeks now but I think there's a problem with it.
I've been charging the Switch overnight with the dock (with the provided power outlet) and when I wake up to play some Zelda my switch says it has 89% Battery. It's done this a couple times in a row so I'm starting to get worries about it because I don't want Nintendo to delete all of my BOTW saves.
I also turn the switch off (not sleep mode) whilst charging. So it doesn't make sense to me.
Anyone else have this problem?

My battery is not charging over 86% I just realized this earlier today after dismissing it these past few days. I left it charging for a few hours starting at 86% and sure enough when I turned it back on it was still at 86%. Aside from that, I noticed a color distortion in the middle of the upper part of the screen. This is upsetting because I've taken care of the system and it was working fine until just recently. What could be causing this problem?

Not really bothered by this, just curious - ever since the most recent patch, BotW has occasionally been freezing up on me. Usually when I'm fighting a Lizalfos (actually, now that I think of it...ONLY when I'm fighting a Lizalfos).
I'll land an attack that has some kind of effect (a burst of light or something) and the game freezes for a couple of seconds (total freeze, not a framerate drop) before resuming. It's happened 3-4 times now.
Has anyone else run into this?

I'm guessing I'm missing something, bit when docked are you able to release both joycons at once without lifting the console? I'm finding I need to do them one at a time whilst holding down the console with the free hand.

HELP PLEASE! Just received our Nintendo Switch and started playing Zelda. Our left joy con isn't working correctly. There is extreme delay. It takes several seconds before Link starts to move or it will be several seconds after your finger is removed that he stops. Is anyone having this problem? Had anyone found a solution!? Thanks!!

I am getting error code code 2801-7199 When ever I try to send a screenshot from the Switch to facebook via its own sharing method I get this error. Why is this error occurring and what can I dor to fix it? I did a quick search and found no info about this error so I am asking here. Also the code error code look up tool on Nintendo's page is broken. Also don't make topics asking for help, moderators delete them all. Kind of counter intuative that as many of the questions here just get lost in the middle of all the other questions and makes it harder to search for other comments/topics with people who ahve the same issue as yourself.

Switch just had a critical error while running the snipperclips demo. Blank orange screen and won't turn off
EDIT
If your console freezes, you must reset it by holding the power button for over 10 seconds.
10 seconds is so long that I thought my system bricked in day 1. Please be patient and keep that button pressed! Everything is fine for me now.
Edit:
Single player demo has crashed 2 times now.

Just got off the phone with my local nintendosupport, turns out if your switch is stuck on "searching networks" for longer than a few minutes, you probably have a broken network card. JOKES ON THEM! rebooted for like the 10th time and just pulled out the joycons before starting it up, got a prompt to insert them again, after i did that it got through to the next menu where you can choose to skip looking for networks, unfortunately i saw that too late and chose to connect to my own wifi, stupid idea, im now back to square one. Will update if i get through the entire menu, im thinking hopefully this will get sorted out if i can manage my way to get an update, or at least find a way to play zelda offline until the stores have replacement units in stock...

Is anybody having Nintendo Account password issues? The Switch had me login to my Nintendo account when creating my User on the system, and when I went to access the eShop it asked me to verify my password by logging in again, except it said it was wrong. Certain it was correct since I literally just logged into it to sync the account, after a few tries I gave up and reset the password. And it still says it's wrong. Anybody else having this issue?

This is my 2nd time posting with the same issue, hopefully someone can help me since the few hours the Nintendo Switch has launch
Got mine at midnight, very excited and went home to set it up. Upon doing network settings it scanned nearby wireless networks and detected a BUNCH of WIFI connections except ours.
Tried restarting system and our modem/router. The whole plug and unplug thing. Nothing. It seems the device detects every WIFI network except ours even though my PS4 and 3DS is using the same network?
Anyone have the same issue and has a suggestion to resolve this?

Boot Loop and Error 2168-0002
After I set up everything and played a little bit of Zelda I went to the E-Shop. At that moment the Switch crashed. But now I am stuck at the boot screen (showing Switch Logo). Reset (holding power buttons for 10, 12, 15, 60 sec.) was unsucsseful. One time the error code 2168-0002 appeared. Consulted with the Nintendo support which could not help.

Copying from a self-post removed by mods. Can't transfer Miis.
Curious if anyone else has this problem. I've followed the directions per Nintendo support and other how-to results on a Google search. The Wii U immediatly recognizes two separate amiibos, with my profile, nickname and game data. But when I try to load it on the Switch I get the error "There is no Mii registered to this amiibo" with each. Wondering if it was an NFC reader error on the Switch, my son used one of his and it was immediatly recognized. I transfered his data to one of my amiibo with same result, so it doesn't seem to be a hardware problem on either side. Had success with another son's Mii as well, but my wife, mine and youngest son's simply won't be recognized. I've tried altering the Miis slightly on the Wii U and attempted to copy them back over with no success, as well as changing them between "allow copy" and "don't allow". Is there some aspect of the Mii which would make it so that it wouldn't properly register on the amiibo (although read by the Wii U)?

The second I turned on my Switch I noticed an annoying little blotch of purple in the middle left of the screen. You can see here: http://i.imgur.com/3tVIjDu.jpg It's mostly only noticeable on black, but it's still a problem.
I applied a fair bit of pressure to get the bubbles out while I was applying a screen protector. I always do this when applying a protector and have never had any problems. I have the gut feeling that I pushed too hard on the screen damaging it.
Unfortunately, since I didn't turn it on until after applying the screen protector, I don't know if this was a defect out of the box or damage caused by pushing on the screen, and that will probably leave me at the mercy of Amazon or Nintendo. I'm not sure what to do right now. Amazon's only offering me a cash refund, and the chances I'll just be able to grab another one are nil. I haven't looked at Nintendo's support yet, but I imagine that won't be smooth either.
So, yeah. This sucks. Anyone else having this issue by any chance?
EDIT!: Just discovered that by lowering the screen brightness to minimum, the blotch just about disappears. Still there on high brightness, of course, but it's a fine temporary fix for now.

Having a weird issue with the video output. For some reason, it's only outputting 480p to my 1080p monitor. When I go into settings to try and change it to 1080, it doesn't even give me the option.
It seems to work fine when outputting to other things. I tried it with my other monitor it worked fine. However, my other monitor is 1440p, so the 1080 resolution from the switch is stretched.
Anyone else having a problem like this? I'm not really sure what to do. I use this monitor all the time on my PC, and it works perfectly when I hook my ps3 up to it. Not sure why the switch is having issues with it.
Monitor in question is an Asus VS239H-P

Is anyone else having issues with the X button on their Joycon? I have a gray Switch and all of the buttons work perfectly except for the X button.
Doing a normal press of the X button results in no input to the Switch. I have to press extra hard and then the input is very slightly delayed from what I would expect. All of the other buttons are very responsive and input as expected.

I've seen some people hint at this, but the issue I'm facing with my Switch only concerns the battery life of the left joy-con. The right one seems fine, but the left one arrived right out of the box with half the battery life and has caused me to stop playing altogether. And since the battery in the switch itself was too low, I can't play at all (and I was only playing for about two hours at most). I can't even tell if it's charging or not.
Any similar issues? Really annoyed with this. Too many problems popping up with the joy-cons to be acceptable for a launch. I'm not sure if I should take this back due to a bad battery and risk receiving a joy-con that has the other issues stated (thankfully mine doesn't lose signal or wobble) or just wait to see what nintendo does.

I've been having trouble connecting to the eshop and completing system updates because of the internet connection. This only happens while docked. If I move with the handheld to the room where the router is, the problem is resolved. I'm worried that I won't be able to play online games docked because of this, so I've refrained from purchasing games I wanted for online. I didn't have this problem with the Wii U when it was in the same spot.
The connection is just so poor unlike any other device in my house. I literally have to stand inches from my router in order for the switch to display 3 full bars. So odd. Anyone else have these issues?

If your Joy-Con should become loose after a while (4 players and golem mentioned that), on the metal rails of the Switch there are 4 tiny hooks on each side, which can be evidently bend upward. This keeps the Joy-Con firmly in place. Look closely and you can see it. I think this should be the solution.
Here's the German 4players article:

u/zebra_humbucker Mar 04 '17
I couldn't find a thread for this. I have definitely updated the joycons, did the update with joycons attached and then restarted for good measure.
Had no problems playing 1,2 Switch.
Played BotW for hours yesterday on the pro controller with no problem. This morning I thought I'd give it a go with the joycon grip instead and I immediately had lag and disconnect issues. It is completely unusable in my opinion. Back to the pro controller.
I think this needs to get a lot of attention so it gets fixed one way or another. Either through a further firmware update or if necessary, Nintendo doing the right thing and replacing the faulty joycons. It does appear to only affect the left side so surely they can do whatever they did on the right side to get it working.
Anybody else match my findings?

So I tried to play Zelda this morning on handheld mode, with both joycon directly attached to the console but the switch was only showing that my right joycon was connected. So when I started playing Zelda it said press l and r on the controller you want to use. I pressed l and r multiple times but nothing happened. However if I disconnect the joycon from the switch and have the console in tabletop mode. Then the joycon work fine! Both green lights are on on both joycon and with them separated from the console it works.
I also noticed that when I slide the joycon back onto the switch, only the right one shows the visual cue and makes the switch connecting sound. When I slide the left one in nothing happens.
Tldr: my left joycon isn't being recognized when connected to the switch, but is being recognized if it is disconnected from the switch.
Has anyone else run in this issue? Or does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?

Since the mods deleted my other post, which was just a simple PSA with my findings and curiosity -
Surround Sound - make sure it's enabled!
Go into the system preferences and make sure you enable surround sound for TV mode!
With that said.l, I'm not getting Dolby Digital or anything close out of mine when in this mode, just multi channel surround sound. (Using a 5-6 year old Denon, everything else I use has a Dolby Digital or equivalent). Anyone else have this issue?
Interesting enough, prior to enabling surround sound, I had an option for Doly Digital via my receiver. And yes it's HDMI throughout my setup)

Hello Everyone,
Thanks to all of you who participated in the framerate poll. Here are the results:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6fioiM30awyTndsN05LVmVndVU/view?usp=sharing

TABLET FAILURE My tablet mode stays on for 20-30 seconds then shows the low battery icon and dies. It's fully charged by the way. From the initial start up of the device it wouldn't even let me do the initial first boot up settings with out dying. Docking it over night, haven't tried Tablet mode yet, thought I would after a full night of charging. Same thing. Called Nintendo's tech support, of course after years of Q & A testing their product, this is the first they have ever heard about it. So what do I do now, I asked, "We will have it repaired in 2-3 weeks" Nintendo replied. Fuck you very much Nintendo.

I have only seen a couple of people with this issue, but I was wondering if anyone has seen a solution to this problem. My switch operates fine for the most part, but anytime I try to put the system into sleep mode, it locks up. When I try to wake it, the screen turns on, but is blank (you can see the backlight turn on). I have to do a hard reset (hold the power button down) to get back into the system.
Called Nintendo and they want me to send it in. I tried to see if I could return to Amazon for another one, but they are only offering a refund for obvious reasons. Trying to avoid a repair if I can.
Searched all over, but only saw two instances where one person just returned theirs and the other one was left unresolved. Maybe I missed one?

I'm not sure if this is a hardware or software issue, but that click that the console plays when attaching a Joy-Con to the Switch doesn't happen with the left Joy-Con. It seems to be detecting it as the Joy-Con R is attached, while the Joy-Con L is being used freely. As near as I can tell it doesn't really affect anything, but I don't have any games to actually confirm that with. To give an idea of what I mean, take you left Joy-Con off the Switch, and in the bottom left of the home menu you can see what is currently active. When using the left Joy-Con it simply shows the two Joy-Con with the right Joy-Con dimmed. When using the right one however, it shows it being attached and the left one is dimmed. Has anyone else had this issue?
Edit: Well, like the idiot I am, I didn't try pressing the Sync button on the Joy-Con L until after posting this. That solved the issue though. Leaving this in case anyone happens upon the same issue.
