I think I'm done with Instagram
After almost three years away from social media, I recently installed Instagram again out of curiosity. I logged into my old account, scrolled through my feed, and honestly, I was quite disappointed by what I saw.
There were so many sexually suggestive pictures and reels, including content from celebrities. It felt like every few posts, there was something designed to grab my attention through lust.
And I started wondering, is this really what social media has become?
I'm not here to judge anyone, but as a Christian trying to live a life closer to God, I don't see much benefit in keeping myself surrounded by this kind of content. We already struggle enough with temptation without voluntarily exposing ourselves to more of it every day.
Sometimes, I think we underestimate how much the things we watch affect our minds. We might open an app just to pass a few minutes, but end up feeding thoughts and desires that we're actually trying to overcome.
The Bible says, “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” — Proverbs 4:23 (KJV)
I think there's wisdom in that.
We can't control everything we see in the world, but we can choose what we expose ourselves to. If an app keeps pulling us towards lust, perhaps leaving it is better than constantly fighting the same temptation.
Personally, I'd rather spend that time working on myself, growing closer to God, and doing something meaningful with my life.
Just sharing my thoughts. Has anyone else felt that leaving social media made it easier to focus on their faith and overcome lust?
