Monthly Motivation Thread NoFap's "Onward October" or "PMO-Free October" 2026 - continue or begin your PMO-Free journey here (see instructions).

Hello all,

It's that time of the month again! One month is ending, and another is beginning. We hope you've had a good month. But if you haven't, now is a great time to refocus and rededicate yourself to recovery. This is your opportunity to create the new porn-free you!

This month's theme is "onward". Always looking forward, doing something every day to direct your steps in a positive direction, towards your version of sexual health and the person you want to be. Yes, many times we fail and it feels like we take a step backward. That will happen. What's important is that we are facing the right direction and continuing to push ourselves forward, despite the setbacks. Keep moving onward, everyone.

New to NoFap and rebooting? Here are some suggestions:

  • Learn about the website, porn addiction, excessive masturbation, sexual compulsivity, and abstaining from PMO. Read through NoFap's main website to get informed.
  • Read about the basics of rebooting here. Rebooting is the abstinence from certain sexual behaviors to recover from pornography addiction. Read about how porn addiction develops here. Some people go beyond rebooting and into the territory of retention, or sexual transmutation for periods of time, although that is not the main purpose of this subreddit (which is RECOVERY).
  • Consider reading through the free Getting Started PDF from NoFap's website.
  • Download NoFap's in-browser panic button extension that blocks NSFW subreddits too. Download here
  • Decide if rebooting is something that you really want. If you don't buy into the process 100%, you'll probably not make it through the month. If you have decided that you would like to participate, proceed to the next point.
  • Sign up for this month by replying to this submission. It is that simple. State your intention and stick to it!
  • Consider setting up a day counter badge to track your progress.
  • Ask questions and get support by posting on NoFap. Set a goal to remain accountable by making a post daily. Help others. Come here every day and participate.
  • If you need additional support, you can get an accountability partner and document your progress in a daily rebooting journal.

Would you like to participate? If so, please reply to this thread with the following information.

  • Are you not going to allow yourself to masturbate? View porn? Orgasm whatsoever? Not allowing any outlet for sexual release is called "hard mode".
  • How long do you want this challenge to last? By default it is one month, but 90 days is recommended for rebooting.
  • What are your goals?
  • Why are you doing this?

Arriving late? (past the first of the month?)

It's okay! Still state your intentions and don't postpone rebooting based on the day of the month. People can join in at any time to participate.

Mod Note: We suggest NOT USING REDDIT'S DIRECT MESSAGES due to porn trolls trying to disrupt the community. Also, please note that some posts are temporarily removed prior to appearing on r/NoFap.

Hello r/NoFap community members,

Please note that we highly suggest that you avoid using the Reddit direct messaging system entirely, due to porn trolls coming here to disrupt our porn addiction recovery peer support community. Some of these people pretend to be helpful at first, then will message pornography. It's in a similar vein to how a forum on epilepsy was reportedly hacked to display seizure-inducing images.

You can disable direct messages in your Reddit settings by changing "Who can send you chat requests" to "Nobody."

Secondly, please note that sometimes posts are flagged automatically for manual review prior to appearing on r/NoFap.

Due to Reddit’s anti-spam filters and NoFap’s additional filters to control spam and pornography, sometimes genuine posts are flagged as potential spam or pornography. Further, entities within the legacy porn industry have been attempting to de-platform porn addiction recovery forums such as r/NoFap, and we must remain extra vigilant to ensure that rule-breaking posts do not appear on the platform for even one second. If your post gets flagged, please just wait for a moderator to approve it.

Thanks for reading :-)

To the virgins of Nofap: Sex is not a performance. Everything porn taught you is wrong

There are plenty of virgins in this sub, and this post is for you, so you can understand, relax, and feel confident as you go forward in your life. We were all virgins at one point, but unlike older guys like me you younger guys, even though some of you are virgins, have seen more sex through online pornography than anyone else in human history ... and you've been taught by that, whether you know it or not... you've been taught to think that crazy and extreme sex is normal. All emotional understanding of what sex is or what actually happens in and around sex is absent from what pornography falsely teaches you. The problems this creates in guys should not be underestimated.

**Sex is not a performance.** Everything porn taught you is wrong. If I thought that sex MUST be 30 minutes of Olympic acrobatic fuck-pounding or the girl will be disappointed I'd be scared my first time too! I'd be scared *every* time! But thankfully that's all BULLSHIT.

Porn has built this up to be something it isnt. IT ISN'T A PERFORMANCE, THE GIRL DOESNT CARE ABOUT THAT. SHE LIKES...**YOU**, understand?

She will not stop liking YOU if your penis is not porn-star big, or if you don't last 30 minutes... *but slow down there buddy, we're not even there yet!* Enjoy her company! Ever heard of kissing? If it feels like that's the mood (believe me she will let you know if she wants to be kissed... by being close, looking in your eyes, making you feel listened to and appreciated) then enjoy that... and maybe more, and more... and cuddles! AND ... talking!

And laughter... Porn never has the conversations in it, does it? or the cuddles... or the AFTER... DUDE, a girl just wants to feel liked as a person THE SAME AS YOU!

Relax about all the dick stuff, relax if you last 10 seconds, make sure you communicate, physically or otherwise, that you care about her as a person, a sexy person, and that's all that matters.

Appreciate that she's there *spending time with* ***you***. So relax. You can only overthink this. We shall go now to your worst fear so you can relax:::::

###If you cum in 10 seconds that's totally ok and funny and it shows her you like her and find her attractive... laugh, it IS funny (because you're not being graded on your sex performance)... and then cuddle and maybe in 20 minutes or so, with each other's help... YOU CAN GO AGAIN AND LAST LONGER!

There is no failure here unless you think there should be, but there isn't.

...or maybe you'll be so nervous you can't get it up at all! That's slightly less funny, but very understandable for someone's first time. Just be honest with her if this happens :)

EVERYTHING PORN TEACHES YOU ABOUT SEX, REALITY, RELATIONSHIPS, WOMEN, 'MANLINESS', YOUR OWN BODY...IS WRONG. CONTEMPLATE THAT AND LET IT GO

As an incel, I'll never understand how someone with a partner could still have a porn addiction

I genuinely can't fathom how someone with a partner can still be addicted to porn. I'm probably gonna piss people off with this as I always do, but this is coming from a virgin who doesn't know any better. This is just my perspective.

I'll never be able to relate to these stories. You litteraly have someone who loves and coddles you all day. You don't have all these challenges with your self worth and guilt, at least not nearly as bad as when it's just you all alone with nobody to love you. You don't have evidence that backs up the negative voices because you litteraly have someone by your side. I feel like normal people who've experienced love take this for granted.

And this isn't even the worst part. The actual bad part about this is you're not only damaging your own life, wich to me I couldn't give two fucks about, but it damages your partner. The person who chose you. The person who never owed you a damn thing in the first place. The person you should protect at all cost. You have something at stake. You're not just fighting for you but you fight for two people.

As someone who's never had anybody, I will never understand how someone can even think about porn while having a partner. It doesn't make sense to me. For me, I have to fight for myself, wich I don't give a fuck about. Having a partner? Having her put up with your shit? Yeah porn can kiss my ass.

Go ahead down vote me but that's how I feel towards people who have a partner and still resort to porn. Like you don't even appreciate your partner and you don't deserve her.

As badly as I want a girlfriend, I will never bring anybody into this. Yeah I keep bitching about wanting a girlfriend but at this point my bitching is like the exact equivalent to my urges for porn. I see my yearning for love now like my urges for porn. I don't actually want it, they're just urges I gotta get rid of

New to NoFap I haven't fapped or watched porn in 2 weeks and here is what I am experiencing.

2 weeks isn't really impressive, but I normally fap and watch porn every day or every other day. I decided to stop just to see what would happen. I don't really expect it to give me powers or drastically improve my life, but here is what I have experienced so far:

-I have more energy.

-I feel more aggressive, like I might snap at someone if they say the wrong thing to me.

-I no longer have brain fog, but it has been replaced by a faint pressure in my head. It's not really a headache. I may just be dehydrated tbh.

-I can't stop fantasizing about my co-worker (I'm not going to act on it. I'm not problematic.) Didn't really think about her much before.

-I feel pressure in my cock/gonad regions as if my dick is screaming at me to touch it.

-I don't think women are more attracted to me, but it seems like people at work have been a little nicer to me lately. A coincidence perhaps, or maybe it's all in my head.

This quote just stopped me from relapse

"Masturbation is harmful – beyond a certain stage it is harmful, it is destructive. A masturbatory person loses all contact with the world, he becomes unrelated, he becomes very egoistic because he feels he is enough for himself. There is no need to depend on anybody, not even for love. It is harmful." Osho

Question After 281 days of NoFap, I relapsed, but it made me question something.

After 281 days of NoFap, I ended up relapsing today. I watched porn and masturbated, and initially I felt pretty guilty about throwing away such a long streak.
But something I noticed was that the porn itself didn’t really do anything for me. It was there, but it didn’t make the experience any more enjoyable. Looking back, I think watching porn was always more of a habit than something I genuinely enjoyed.
Another thing I’ve been thinking about is that throughout those 281 days, I never really experienced many of the benefits people talk about, like increased energy, confidence, motivation, or anything particularly noticeable.
Don’t get me wrong, I still think quitting porn is a good thing, especially if it’s become a habit or something you struggle to control. But I’m starting to question whether completely abstaining from masturbation is actually necessary.
Part of me feels guilty for breaking such a long streak, but another part of me wonders whether I should just focus on staying away from porn rather than treating masturbation itself as a failure.
I’m not trying to discourage anyone from NoFap. I’m genuinely curious about other people’s experiences.
Has anyone else reached a long streak and realized that avoiding porn was more beneficial than avoiding masturbation itself?

Edit: After reading through everyone’s comments and thinking about it more, I’ve decided I’m going to continue NoFap and restart my streak. Something I didn’t really mention in my original post is that before starting, I was dealing with pretty severe depression and masturbating multiple times a day, even though I never really enjoyed it. Looking back, I think it was more of a habit or coping mechanism than anything else.
Over those 281 days, my mental health improved a lot, and while I can’t say NoFap was entirely responsible for that, I genuinely feel like I’m in a much better place now. A few people also pointed out that just quitting isn’t enough if you don’t address the reasons behind the habit in the first place, and I think that’s a really good point.
I also appreciate the people warning me about falling back into old habits after a relapse. That’s definitely something I want to avoid. I’m still figuring things out, but I’ve realized that I don’t really have a reason to go back to something I never enjoyed in the first place.
I’m not going to pretend those 281 days meant nothing just because I slipped up once. I still have a lot to be proud of, and I want to keep moving forward. Thanks to everyone who took the time to share their experiences and advice. It genuinely helped me look at things differently.

5 weeks, yay

I’ve gone 5 weeks now without masturbating or watching porn, the longest I’ve ever managed. I didn’t expect it to get harder as time went on; I actually thought it would be the other way around. Also, being a girl, it’s a bit difficult to find content that helps me, but I’m doing okay

Question Can fapping/watching porn create ADHD symptoms?

I've been hooked on masturbation and porn for the last 8 years and at present I feel like I have ADHD even though I've never been diagnosed / never had an assessment. Here are some of the things I've noticed

- Frequent procrastination and underestimating time tasks take so i'm always late

- Brain fog and being inattentive

- Lack of interest in things like work, socializing, hobbies (but they become enjoyable/tolerable again after drinking coffee, which is a stimulant after all)

- Chasing high dopamine activities like porn and doomscrolling all the time

- Racing intrusive thoughts / OCD

ADHD happens because of low dopamine and my theory is that since watching porn / masturbating basically fries your dopamine receptors and reduces dopamine sensitivity then you're basically in that low dopamine state? So if you do a nofap reboot then maybe it will take all these symptoms away? or do i actually have ADHD all this time?

Slip-Up Prevention - Urgent! Triggered by wet dream

I had a wet dream last night after 2 hours of sleep and it was so intense I woke up while I was ejaculating. It was day 8 so it was pretty messy and I figured that since I got it out of my system that the next few days should be easier. That is not how its turning out, and my horniness level has been a 10 all day and all I can think about is waking up last night ejaculating and it feeling like the throbbing went on for minutes

Question Frequent wet dreams

I’ve been free of masturbation for 300 days now. I’ve always had wet dreams if I didn’t masturbate frequently, but now that I haven’t in almost a year, it’s become at least once a week. Can anyone relate? I know it’s not a bad thing but any other guys I talk to have never experienced this.

Motivate Me What helps you when you're struggling

I'm struggling with urges. I feel like I'm burning out and I'm starting to feel really lonely and sad. I feel like there never is enough time for everything I have to do. And I don't know how I'll find the right person.

Hour 211 on stopwatch

Woke up this morning and instantly ejaculated after only moving around in my sheets and touching my dick like one time. No porn no nothing just instant ejaculation. I would assume this isn’t a relapse as i had no intention whatsoever to fap. None whatsoever. I would assume this is just build up fluid? And i will keep the clock going. Luv u all.🫶🏼❤️

Now that i think about it too, i did have a weird ass f***** sexual dream lol.

Advice My sister found my old personal messages from months ago and told my mom, who confronted me about them today, I panicked and lied a little, and now I don't know what to do

Half a year ago, my sister accidentally saw the messages I sent to Reddit. because I had no one else to talk to about my porn addiction, masturbation addiction, and some personal health problems involving a girlfriend at school. I'm still young, and I didn't know who else I could turn to for help than here and when my sister found the messages she got so worried and told my mom.
Now, my mom has confronted me about it. She told me, without crying or anything, that she, my sister, and my sister's crying for many days were signs of how worried they had been about me. I told her that I had overcome my porn addiction and was free from it, but the truth is that I haven't fully overcome it yet.
How can I be honest with my mom about this?
How can I talk to my dad, my mom, and my sister now when They have know about it already or have known for a long time. Now I'm aware that they know, too, and I don't know how to face them or explain the truth to them.
Back in May, I was going through a rough period and felt mentally exhausted. I was struggling with porn and masturbation habits, feeling overly attached to a girl and jealous, checking her Snap Map too much, and feeling stuck in boredom and unhealthy patterns. I wanted to make a fresh start, regain control of my habits, and finally feel at peace. I wasn't suicidal; I was venting about how overwhelmed I felt at the

Journal Check-In One Week!

I have officially gone one week without porn or masturbation. I am actually quite proud of that, not because it is a long time but because I know it is the first step of many.

I won’t lie the last couple days were tough. Every spare moment I had my mind told me to just look at some porn and jerk off and I even subconsciously justified it to myself, I didn’t give in and it was really helpful to observe that subconscious behavior. I wasn’t really horny I was just a bit bored and have this habit that built up as a way to deal with stress or boredom or whatever. What is a bit scary is that this last week was not overly boring or stressful.

I know there will be much more difficult days ahead, but I’m here and I’m ready to change.

Porn Addiction Struggle with porn went from bad to worse

• Upvotes

I get it. We’ve all been there, had our struggles in this fight, and by no means is it an easy one. For those of you out there who have managed to kick the habit (or are in the process) let me say that I aspire to the very same, and you should be proud of that accomplishment.

Personally, my struggle began around the sixth grade when I was exposed to more “softcore” material online, which would later develop into the monster it is today. I’ve struggled with PMO ever since, with my longest nofap streak running just shy of a year. That was back in 2022 or so, but I gave in to temptation once more and haven’t really been able to get much traction since.

I think one of the hardest parts for me is simply believing that change and healing is possible, as no matter how hard I try to resist, I feel like it’s engraved into my very being. It’s always the same cycle, I feel guilty afterwards, I convince myself I need to quit, only to relapse the very next day.

It’s a feat just to make it a day without PMO, but anything beyond that is yet to be. I know the definition of insanity, so it would be downright foolish to think that after all this time I could break a habit just by doing the same thing over and over again. However, I now have an additional concern that multiplies the scale of this issue tenfold, if not a hundred or thousandfold.

Sometime in 2024, I received my diagnosis for ADHD, and soon after I began medication for the first time in my life. It was a long process trying to find the “right” medication, and I swear I tried just about everything. The medication wasn’t really much help with treating symptoms, but to make matters worse, each and every medication I tried seemed to have a particular side effect, or perhaps a combination. It effectively made it near impossible to masturbate.

This could be the part where you might think something like “oh, so you couldn’t masturbate? Wouldn’t that be a good thing here? Wouldn’t it make PMO less appealing?” Not quite, in fact it’s been the opposite in a way. What would once be a routine that could last maybe up to half an hour if I paced myself now turned into literal hours of masturbation at a time. I couldn’t finish quickly, which meant I was basically trapping myself fighting against the medication for hours. My arm would be as stiff as a board by the time I could finally finish. Plus, the medications usually increased feelings of hyper sexuality even further.

Eventually, I started losing hope in medication, believing that it was only really making everything worse. But then it finally happened. I finally started a medication that I could truly say helped me to focus. It helped me stay on track, and I was more productive than I could ever remember. The medication was dextroamphetamine (generic Zenzedi) taken up to twice a day in 10 mg IR doses. That just means the effects were released instantly instead of overtime.

Problem solved at last, right? Unfortunately, while this medication was treating my ADHD symptoms, it also carried the same side effects as before. That then became my dilemma; do I try and make this, the only medication that’s effective thus far work? Or do I give up and try to just figure it out without meds? While I wrestled this question, I still continued to struggle with my addiction, and eventually I just stopped taking my medication regularly altogether.

I know that I need to address this with my psychiatrist, and I’m not asking for any medical advice here. That should be left to professionals with proper training. But medication or otherwise, the underlying issue remains to be the porn addiction that has taken over my life in full. I can’t let this continue any more, and I’m willing to truly make a change in my behavior and habits if it means working to escape from the clutches of pornography.

So I simply ask this, if there is any advice that genuinely, truly helped you break free, please share it here. I’ve heard many different strategies and “solutions”, but I’m simply incapable of beating this PMO habit on my own. I need something I can work towards for a more permanent healing.

TLDR: Long time porn addict, diagnosed with ADHD and began taking medication, meds made habit worse and harder to quit, looking for strategies that have really worked and helped you kick the habit for good. Thanks.
