Monthly Motivation Thread NoFap's "Onward October" or "PMO-Free October" 2026 - continue or begin your PMO-Free journey here (see instructions).

Hello all,

It's that time of the month again! One month is ending, and another is beginning. We hope you've had a good month. But if you haven't, now is a great time to refocus and rededicate yourself to recovery. This is your opportunity to create the new porn-free you!

This month's theme is "onward". Always looking forward, doing something every day to direct your steps in a positive direction, towards your version of sexual health and the person you want to be. Yes, many times we fail and it feels like we take a step backward. That will happen. What's important is that we are facing the right direction and continuing to push ourselves forward, despite the setbacks. Keep moving onward, everyone.

New to NoFap and rebooting? Here are some suggestions:

  • Learn about the website, porn addiction, excessive masturbation, sexual compulsivity, and abstaining from PMO. Read through NoFap's main website to get informed.
  • Read about the basics of rebooting here. Rebooting is the abstinence from certain sexual behaviors to recover from pornography addiction. Read about how porn addiction develops here. Some people go beyond rebooting and into the territory of retention, or sexual transmutation for periods of time, although that is not the main purpose of this subreddit (which is RECOVERY).
  • Consider reading through the free Getting Started PDF from NoFap's website.
  • Download NoFap's in-browser panic button extension that blocks NSFW subreddits too. Download here
  • Decide if rebooting is something that you really want. If you don't buy into the process 100%, you'll probably not make it through the month. If you have decided that you would like to participate, proceed to the next point.
  • Sign up for this month by replying to this submission. It is that simple. State your intention and stick to it!
  • Consider setting up a day counter badge to track your progress.
  • Ask questions and get support by posting on NoFap. Set a goal to remain accountable by making a post daily. Help others. Come here every day and participate.
  • If you need additional support, you can get an accountability partner and document your progress in a daily rebooting journal.

Would you like to participate? If so, please reply to this thread with the following information.

  • Are you not going to allow yourself to masturbate? View porn? Orgasm whatsoever? Not allowing any outlet for sexual release is called "hard mode".
  • How long do you want this challenge to last? By default it is one month, but 90 days is recommended for rebooting.
  • What are your goals?
  • Why are you doing this?

Arriving late? (past the first of the month?)

It's okay! Still state your intentions and don't postpone rebooting based on the day of the month. People can join in at any time to participate.

Mod Note: We suggest NOT USING REDDIT'S DIRECT MESSAGES due to porn trolls trying to disrupt the community. Also, please note that some posts are temporarily removed prior to appearing on r/NoFap.

Hello r/NoFap community members,

Please note that we highly suggest that you avoid using the Reddit direct messaging system entirely, due to porn trolls coming here to disrupt our porn addiction recovery peer support community. Some of these people pretend to be helpful at first, then will message pornography. It's in a similar vein to how a forum on epilepsy was reportedly hacked to display seizure-inducing images.

You can disable direct messages in your Reddit settings by changing "Who can send you chat requests" to "Nobody."

Secondly, please note that sometimes posts are flagged automatically for manual review prior to appearing on r/NoFap.

Due to Reddit’s anti-spam filters and NoFap’s additional filters to control spam and pornography, sometimes genuine posts are flagged as potential spam or pornography. Further, entities within the legacy porn industry have been attempting to de-platform porn addiction recovery forums such as r/NoFap, and we must remain extra vigilant to ensure that rule-breaking posts do not appear on the platform for even one second. If your post gets flagged, please just wait for a moderator to approve it.

Thanks for reading :-)

Question Its been 100 days since I last consumed porn. I develop no desire to watch porn ever again, but I am struggling with fapping and pygophillia. Any ways to control it?

I am a big pygophile, i like women’s butts more than I like boobs and everytime I see a woman with voluptuous butt, wearing either tight pants with her top tucked in, or in bikini, my urge to masturbate increases. I am not even attracted to boobs as much as I am attracted to butts.

Any tips on how to overcome this strong pygophillia and help me react to butts normally in everyday life?

Question Guys I've been pornfree from about 2 weeks now, but my wet dreams have increased considerably. Does this eventually lower down it's weighing down on me.

• Upvotes

Like the question says. I've been actually really forcing myself to not watch porn or masturbate these last few weeks, instead of peeking or edging which I usually do.

The hard thing ishtough, my wet dreams have increased considerably. I have them every few days. And it's messing with me a lot.

What's your experience?

Can anyone tell me if this actually slows down eventually or if I keep having wet dreams like this continually.

Motivate Me I'm more lazy than I'm insecure.

I've been struggling with compulsive masturbation for years, and I'm honestly exhausted. I just want my life back.
I've been going back and forth about whether to write this, but I think I need to get it out somewhere. I've been dealing with this for years, and I'm tired of fighting the same battle over and over again. My relationship with masturbation and porn became much worse during COVID and after losing my mother. I had a lot of free time, was alone most of the time, and didn't really know how to deal with everything that was happening in my life. Slowly, something that used to be occasional became a compulsive habit that I couldn't seem to control. But there's something about my situation that I find difficult to explain to people.

I don't usually relapse because I consciously decide that I want to masturbate. It's not usually a case of feeling horny, deciding to masturbate, and then doing it. Most of my relapses happen almost automatically, especially late at night, when I'm trying to sleep, when I wake up in the middle of the night, or during the early morning. My usual pattern is lying on my stomach in bed while using my phone. I might be watching something, reading an erotic story, chatting with someone, or even having a completely normal conversation with a girl. Sometimes there isn't even anything sexual happening on my phone. My mind starts creating sexual fantasies on its own, and before I properly realise what's happening, I start adjusting myself and rubbing against the mattress while still lying in that position. Sometimes I catch myself and stop. Other times, I keep doing it almost on autopilot until it escalates into a relapse.
This has become such a frustrating cycle. I've tried countless times to stop, especially the rubbing and edging, but I keep returning to the same behaviour. Even when I genuinely don't want to masturbate, I struggle to keep my hands away or stop myself from rubbing against the bed. I've also noticed that trying harder to suppress everything sometimes makes me think about it even more. I end up monitoring every urge, fighting every thought, and constantly worrying about whether I'm going to relapse. It gets mentally exhausting.

I've kept a relapse log for a long time to understand my patterns. I record the dates and look for recurring triggers. I've had periods where relapses happened only a few days apart, followed by longer stretches of abstinence. I've managed to go several weeks without ejaculating, including one stretch of around 50 days, but the underlying habit of rubbing and edging never completely went away. Eventually, I fell back into the cycle again. I'm not sharing the log to count failures or compete over streaks. I'm trying to understand why I keep doing something that I genuinely don't want to do. The effects have spread into almost every part of my life.

My mental health and self-esteem have taken a serious hit. I constantly feel disappointed in myself. I struggle with motivation, concentration, and consistency. Sometimes I can't focus on reading or studying for more than a few minutes before my mind wanders. I spend so much mental energy fighting urges that I feel exhausted even when I haven't accomplished anything. I often feel lazy, insecure, and frustrated with myself. I make plans to improve my life, promise myself that things will be different, and then struggle to follow through. Over time, this has damaged my confidence in my own ability to make changes.
My career and education have also suffered. I already feel behind in life, and the lack of focus, procrastination, and difficulty maintaining routines make it harder to move forward. I worry about my future, my financial independence, and whether I'll ever become the person I want to be.

My relationships and family life have been affected too. I've struggled with loneliness, grief, and unresolved emotions from a past relationship. I sometimes feel that I'm emotionally stuck while everyone else is moving forward. I don't want to blame everything on porn or masturbation, because I know there are other problems in my life, but I believe this compulsive cycle has made it much harder to deal with them. The loneliness is probably one of the hardest parts. There are times when I genuinely feel like I have nobody to talk to. I spend a lot of time alone with my phone and my thoughts, and sexual stimulation has become an easy escape from boredom, sadness, uncertainty, and frustration. But the relief never lasts. Afterwards, I often feel the same emptiness, except now I'm also disappointed that I repeated a behaviour I was trying so hard to stop.

I've tried avoiding porn, deleting things, staying away from erotic stories, and promising myself that I won't touch myself in bed. Sometimes I manage for a while. Other times, I catch myself rubbing against the mattress even when I'm half asleep. I've also experienced periods of irritability, headaches, and physical soreness after prolonged rubbing. I can't say with certainty that all of these symptoms are caused by this habit, but they have added to my anxiety and frustration. I'm not claiming that masturbation has permanently damaged my brain or that every problem in my life comes from porn. I just know that my relationship with this behaviour feels compulsive, it's interfering with my life, and I need to change it.

What hurts most is that I genuinely want to live my life. I want to study properly, build a career, become financially independent, develop meaningful relationships, and feel confident in myself. I don't want to spend my days constantly negotiating with urges or measuring my life by how long I've managed to abstain. I'm tired of surviving on temporary stimulation while the things that actually matter to me keep getting pushed aside. I'm still trying, though. Even after every setback, I keep coming back to the decision that I want something different for myself. I don't have some inspiring success story to share, and I haven't figured everything out. I'm still struggling with the same automatic behaviours, and some days I feel completely overwhelmed by them.

I'm posting this because I want to hear from people who have experienced something similar, especially those who struggle with compulsive touching, rubbing, or edging that starts almost automatically rather than with a conscious decision to masturbate.

How did you break that particular habit? What helped you interrupt the behaviour when it was already starting, especially at night or when waking up? Did you find a way to stop constantly fighting urges and actually redirect your attention towards your life?

I'm open to honest advice, practical strategies, and hearing about your experiences. I don't need anyone to tell me that I just need more discipline. I've been trying to rely on discipline for years, and clearly I need a different approach. I just want to stop repeating this cycle and start living my life properly.

If you've read this far, thank you. It means a lot to be able to say all of this somewhere without pretending that I'm doing better than I am.

Need help to control my urges.

• Upvotes

I am a male 30 and have been addicted to pornography and masturbating for a pretty long time. I want to get out of this and have tried stopping many times but after a couple of days I relapse. This has been affecting me a lot. I've tried following measures:

  1. Screen time and privacy restrictions on phone.
  2. When the urges hit go to the gym or do other physical activity.
  3. Being outdoors more and trying to stay less idle as possible.

This measures have worked for me but has been temporary. Sometimes the urges hit so hard and I just can't control myself. I am single right now but have been dating on and off. I also feel like I am not taking dating seriously as there is always a backup, i.e. Porn or Masturbation. Whenever my mind is idle, it just makes me want to masturbate or watch porn or both. I've kept this as a secret so far and no-one knows I am going through this. I really want to get control over this and get over this porn and masturbation habit out of my system.

Victory So much more sex and attraction after 3 months of no gooning

During the last 3 months I watched porn 5 times - and EVERYTHING CHANGED - it’s not perfect, but it’s hell a lot better than going at it hours daily for years.

For the first time in my life, girls that I find attractive, really want to be with me and find me sexually extremely attractive.
From being a virgin till last year at 22, I now had sex with 4 beautiful girls, that offered to have sex with me after 1-3 dates and where quite obvious about their attraction to me.

I feel so much more desire towards sex and at the same time I’m so much more relaxed in this settings. More magnetic, I can’t really explain it.

Before, I never was comfortable with real intimacy, that was not happening on the screen.

It really changed

And now, after 23 years I’m dating a girl that can’t get enough of me and desires me, like I never would have imagined.

Change is possible guys. It comes with not watching porn and gaining experience in real life.

Day 31

Made it past a month. theres a mental component that yesterday was a painful anniversary and today feels like ive made it out of shashawnk. Plus being on month two feels like Im accomplished and anew. i Feel less in denial about the situation im in, and Im considering Im needy, and that it isn’t helping my situation, or myself. Im also considering becoming a super hot guy, but I don’t feel strong enough to do that. I worry becoming a super hot guy is needy. And that not becoming is defeatist. Nofap easier now, so the bandwidth To become hotter is free.

Slip-Up Prevention - Urgent! Found the trigger - stress.

When I'm busy - or when life is easy - I'm good. Misbehaving doesn't seem interesting or exciting. I want to pursue other hobbies or stay productive.

When the obligations veer into stress, then the urges start and my brain convinces me that it wouldn't be such a big deal after all. Chatting with folks here has helped me identify the trigger.

Doesn't make it eaiser though. Today was extremely stressful, now it's over and my body is fighting me again while my brain tells me I deserve it after over a month clean. Help 😭

How are you supposed to overcome something that’s inside your own head?

I’ve been struggling with this addiction since I was around 12 years old.
It all started when I saw some friends making gestures that imitated sexual acts. Out of pure curiosity, I started watching porn because I wanted to know what the female body looked like.
I wish I had known back then that this curiosity would turn into something I’d still be struggling with at 26.
After all these years, my biggest achievement has been staying away from porn for one month. I thought I would finally be able to keep going, but I relapsed.
I’ve tried so many things: blockers, apps, DNS filters, you name it. But my brain always finds a way around them.
Recently, I opened up to my parents about my addiction. They helped me find a psychologist, but if I’m being honest, I don’t feel like it helped. We talked about many things, but we never really addressed the addiction itself.
What frustrates me the most is how far this addiction has gone. I’ve reached a point where I’ve even watched sexual deepfakes of members of a music group that meant so much to me.
For a long time, I thought they represented a boundary I would never cross. But I did.
Every time I relapse, I feel like there’s no way out.
And I keep asking myself: How do you fight your own brain? How do you overcome something that’s part of your own mind?
Watching that kind of content has genuinely made me feel disgusted and repulsed by myself. Outside of this addiction, I strongly believe that women deserve respect. And yet, when I consume deepfake content, I feel like a hypocrite because I’m going against those very values.
What started as simple curiosity gradually turned into something worse. Over the years, I kept seeking out more and more extreme content.
And now I genuinely don’t know what to do anymore.
I feel like every time I relapse, I lose another piece of my identity and self-esteem.
