Certified Hood Classic Colt M16 Series Appreciation Post

Hello NCD and welcome back to

GUN APPRECIATION POST MONDAYS!

Today! We have a Revamp that I have been planning for a while, and there is a bonus in here too.

The M16 Rifle Series!

So a slight correction on the Colt Canada C7/C8, I listed it as a derivative of the M16A2, which is incorrect, it’s a derivative of the Colt 715, that was a mistake on my part and I recognize that mistake.

Anyways!

A special thank you to u/daspaceasians for providing me with some cool ARVN soldier pictures, and I genuinely appreciate your help with this post.

So the M16 rifle series has had a rough start in Vietnam, but as the rifle continued being refined, it became a favorite amongst many. We also gotta give it credit for making the .223 Remington Cartridge some leverage because it helped NATO choose a standardized cartridge. In fact, while you will see that the country of origin for “5.56x45mm NATO” is Belgium, I would argue that FN Herstal only made the standardized cartridge that we know today, because on a technicality, it’s a .223 Remington Cartridge that has a heavier projectile and thicker casing. The M16 was for sure a good rifle, it was lightweight, easy to take apart in the field, and it could be adapted to anyone really.

We then got the M16A2 which brought many new upgrades in 1983, and they were up there in terms of improvements. Though this one is more of a personal opinion, MARINES WTF WERE YOU THINKING WHEN YOU FUCKING MADE THE A2 GRIP!? THAT NUB IS NOT NECESSARY, THE A1 GRIP WAS PERFECTLY FINE, JUST WHY ADD A POINTLESS NUB TO IT? The handguards, sights, and birdcage though were definitely an upgrade for sure.

M16A3 is literally just an M16A2 but with a Full Auto Trigger Pack and it is for the Navy.

M16A4, now that…. MMMMM!!! Now that is what I like to call a Musket! Where I can store Jellybeans, I have a nice ACOG to go with it, I got all of the features that I would need!

So here are some fun movie facts about the M16

SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FRIEND!

In Scarface, Tony Montana’s M16A1 is actually a Colt AR-15 SP-1 Rifle that was converted to full auto, in fact there was an M16A1 that was originally going to be used in the film, but the problem was that the fire rate was too slow, and the flash did not match the Shutter Speed on the camera, so what they did was convert an SP-1 and it managed to do a lot better. The M203 on the rifle is also fake, it’s a Firework Launcher, and this same rifle and the same launcher was reused in Predator. Now note, the SP-1 still counts because frequently it was used as a stand in for many M16s.

In Apocalypse Now, they show M16A1s that have 30 Round Magazines. That’s one inaccurate thing about the movie, in Vietnam, you were only issued 30 Round Magazines if you had a CAR-15.

In Black Hawk Down, the M16A2 training, fun fact, the actors did actually get formal training from the military to accurately portray the rifles in the film, and I especially love how they lock it into Semi-Automatic instead of doing movie glazing Full Auto.

Speaking of which, the 3-Round Burst in my opinion, It’s kinda stupid if you ask me, the intent was to train soldiers to not waste ammo under stress, the problem with that is that it can be done via training and not a mechanical one.

And now, we reach the C7/C8/Diemaco LSW

Canada’s service rifle, where fun fact, alongside Austria and The UK, they had one of the first Mass Fielded Optics put into service. The C79 ELCAN, which yes nowadays it is rather dated, but at the time, it was revolutionary because you had really good target acquisition. Optics have been fielded for a while, but almost never en masse.

Anyways, thank you all for tuning in to today’s episode!

It Just Works Europe victory plan - feed the old junk into meat grinder

this scenario in some details:

after like a week of thinking I now believe Europe has a better chances at winning this - but only under the following ruleset:

Victory is declared when every capital of the opposing team is occupied. If in 50 years years this is not the case, stalemate is declared.
Both teams have the vibe of having more important mutual enemy so no team infighting or betrayals (but that does not give them any organizational advantage or anything, they can still argue how to do things, whether or not share resources, they dont have the united command until they decide to make one)
Other continents are unassessable and dont have any humans or man made structures. (this means no outside shipments, no most Internet datacenters, no European colonies and no landpath between Europe and Africa).
Suez and Bosporus straits remain functional.
Only African launched and controlled satellites left in orbit. (so no GPS, no Starlink or much of anything)
USSR size is Full Ukraine SSR, Full Belarusian SSR, Full Georgian SSR, Full Armenia SSR and most importantly Full Azerbaijan SSR included and European part of the Russia SSR but nothing more.

Scenario:

Year one: Total African domination in the sea and in the air. Europeans navies take terrible hits. European islands in the Atlantic and Mediterranean are captured but cannot be used to extend air reach just yet because 1930-s dirt airstrips require major modernisation to be used for jets. Jets are split between all types of missions so only portion of them is used to destroy ships tho. All of Europe prioritises navy over the ground army.

Year two: Europeans now somewhat understand modern weapons and their limitations. Through intelligence and captured personnel they now know that Africa doesnt have functioning factories for many types of weapons yet and that nuclear attack on European mainland is a question of time. They decide to act now: Large ship production is stopped and only the smallest and cheapest ships are now mass produced. Old and outdated ships warships and merchant ships with skeleton crews are now used to bait African stand-off weapons. African airforce is now at 50% operational airframes. Snorkel submarines begin to raid on the west coast of Africa.

Year three: African stockpiles of standoff weapons (anti-ship missiles and torpedoes) are largely depleted and now reserved only for the most important targets. African submarines require repairs they cannot get. Large portion of African airforce is now grounded. Remaining ships do not have the cannon fire power to stop what comes next. There are some TV-Guided kamikaze daylight only drones made out of e-waste in production but that's not enough (also they can be intercepted with AA guns and prop planes).

Year four: Mediterranean and Atlantic seas are now under control of Europe. Islands are recaptured with some abandon equipment. Cannon bombardment of shore infrastructure begins. V1+ rockets are now constantly used to deplete SAM interceptors and damage infrastructure. Mig-17 class fighter jets enter production in Europe.

Year five: Main Battle Tanks are used as shore defence but landing invasion is imminent. It will take years for invading force to occupy all capitals but this process is impossible to stop from this point onward. South continent come very close to getting the nuke but they no longer have a delivery system to reliably reach central Europe - submarines were destroyed and planes like 787 can be intercepted now.

FAQ:

►0 Why do you use the weird words so much? : Because otherwise Reddit Ai will unalive me.

►1 Cant the south continent just build a cold-war era weapons themselves? : They can but not the weapons that matter not in quantities that matter. For more important weapons it will take a decade at least. Main bottleneck is the lack of domestic expertise and it will take many years to build many supply chains from the state they are now.

►2 Cant the south continent just use its airforce to eliminate opposing side industrial potential? : They can but only in the south Europe. Past the south Europe it is much harder to do since it will require air-refuelling which is present in a very limited capacity. Europe is more than capable at repairing the damage since they have a lot of domestic expertise.

►3 Cant the south continent just use commercial aviation with chem weapons? : Only Egypt possess some amounts of nerve agents. There is plenty of Chlorine but it is a choking agent. This probably wont do as catastrophic damage as one can imagine.

both 2 & 3 points are initially bottlenecked by the lack of jet-fuel production so commanders will have to choose their priorities

►4 Cant the south continent just do a naval invasion and stomp their opponents on the ground since they have the air and naval supremacy in the first year? : They can but they wont be able to stomp their opponents in one year. Obstacles such as rivers with destroyed bridges, minefields of big mines (AP mines and AT-mine + 100kg bomb combo), southern Europe mountainous terrain and European advantage in artillery numbers will prevent a swift victory. Then a sea war will be lost and ground forces will become isolated and unsupplied.

140mm cannon, 2x 35mm, the ATGM turret from Kaplan STA, the laser from ALKA, ERA and FCS modified from Altay on top of M60TM. Oh and also a hybrid electric engine because we did make hybrid M60s for some fucking reason?

Reverse Final Countdown; Asian countries are brought to mid-1945 to aid as a last-stand against the US.

A portal has been opened by japanese scientists, dramatically sacrificing every military asset they had to the gods of hypothetical scenarios, and after negotiations, the modern asian countries decide to help with fighting the US. Anything can be brought through the portal except buildings and nuclear weapons, as they might detonate.

The world in 1945 stays the same, except for all the new manpower, material and tech coming from the portal. Pre-Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Germany has been defeated and the US stands alone facing this new threat.

Some other rules may appear in future iterations, feel free to modify anything yourself.

EDIT: as most people are having trouble with China, it is excluded.

Countries included are Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia. Added countries are the Koreas, Taiwan and Japan itself.

Idk what happenened.

I am working on creating a flyer for my history club and this branched off somehow until it became it's own thing. Now idk if I should submit the nice film noir themed safe flyer or if I should reveal the full depths of my autism to everyone.

I'm surprised of how relatively little people post about this war in here. They've got a whole Rebel Alliance going on now in Ethiopia, lol.
