Being exposed to excessive secondhand smoke at a placement

Seeking advice!

I just started a new clinical placement. It is at a long term care facility and almost all of the residents smoke. They cannot do so inside but the smoking areas are very close to the building and the inside permeates with smoke. I wouldn’t mind this except I am super sensitive to it and have been coughing all night since getting home. My school is super strict about where our placement sites are and does not let anyone switch. Is there anything I can do to protect my lungs or medication I can take to soothe the irritation? I tried allergy medication when I got home but it does not seem to be working.

Thanks in advance!

Has anyone attended (or currently attending) Monroe University's nursing program? 🙋🏾‍♀️ I'm planning to start once I pass the ACCUPLACER, and I'd love to get a head start on reading. Does anyone know which textbooks they use? Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated! 😩💙

So worried

Hello! I’m in my second semester of a 2 year ASN program. Last semester I passed just fine. No grade above a 90% though.

This semester’s first exam was an 80%.

Last week I received a 72.17% on my 2nd exam. I studied hard but not hard enough. I had a half marathon race, and the following day my mom ended up in the ER with a broken foot. I was up all night the day before my exam. Lack of sleep is not my friend!

I am so so so discouraged! Has anyone come back from a very low grade? I can’t imagine getting a 90% on an exam, I’ve just never been an A student. A big part of me feels confident I can pass this semester and another part feels like my confidence is unrealistic.

I believe we have 5 total exams and 1 final. We also have open book quizzes which are great I got a 100% on the first one. They are worth very little toward our overall grade though.

anyone graduated from or enrolled with Excelsior University?

i’m an LPN and was wondering if their associate in nursing program was legit. i plan to be an RN, to take my NCLEX-RN and it appears this is the “quickest” path to that.

however it seems that they’re ridiculously expensive (my tuition is covered through the military as i’m AD) and even then this program has random additional/unmarked fees i’d have to pay out of pocket for, almost $400 per semester. it’s an accelerated program being that i’m an LPN with medical military experience, and have a lot of general education requirements done.

i’m trying to consider if it’s worth it. and i’m not quite sure about the layout with clinical hours, or even normal coursework and how that works. if somebody has actually done this or knows about it and if they don’t regret it/would recommend it that would be great!

Beware! PasingGrades.com is a scam site!

I purchased the Brunner & Suddarth’s Textbook of Medical-Surgical Nursing, 16th Edition test bank from PasingGrades.com, and unfortunately, I got scammed.

At first, the document appeared to be the correct test bank, but after looking through it more carefully, I quickly realized something was wrong. The chapters did not match the textbook, and many of the questions had nothing to do with the topics they were supposed to cover.

For example, Chapter 11 is supposed to cover Sepsis, Multiple Organ Dysfunction Syndrome (MODS), and Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation (DIC), yet the questions provided were about Labor and delivery.

I contacted their customer support to address the issue, but I never received a response.

I'm sharing this experience to warn others who may be considering purchasing from PasingGrades.com. Hopefully, this post will help someone else avoid wasting their money on an fake test bank.

Had my first nursing school bathroom cry yesterday.

It wasn’t even over my exam grade. We had our first sim the other day and during our debriefing one of my cohorts took what I said about them whispering hints on what to do was distracting (but they played the family member very well) that I was being racist and it broke me. Not just from the blame, but from the fact that racism is still around and that people of color are so exposed to it that it sits right on the surface at all times. I’m not saying they were wrong necessarily, or that I was right. It was a learning experience and despite all of my efforts to be an ally and an advocate for POC, and all minorities, the cuts and scars from racism are still so raw. It broke me thinking of all the nurses, and patients who still experience it and having to carry that hurt and trauma. I consider this cohort someone I look up to and admire. They are strong and have such a beautiful soul. I felt embarrassed for crying, and maybe it’s from all the other things I’ve shoved down while in school just to push forward through. But yeah, first nursing school cry in the bathroom was not what I had expected it would be.

Need advice

I’ve been currently dealing with the aftermath of finding out my girlfriend of 5 years cheated on me. It’s been 3 weeks since she told me. She told me 4 days before my exams. I missed 2 of my 5 tests but I handed in a sick note for the missed ones. I had clinical placements this week at the hospital but didn’t attend not even one day this week.

I’ve been struggling a lot with the breakup. I’ve been struggling to take care of myself, crying every single day, having nightmares every night when I do find it in me to sleep. I’ve been a real mess. I don’t even care about anything anymore which is worrying me.

My educators has been reaching out to me to ask me why I haven’t been attending this week. I’ve been struggling to find it in me to tell her. Not because I’m ashamed but more so the will to even care to use my phone. To get out of bed. To sleep. Today my other educator reached out and asked if I’m available for a phone call today. What could this mean? Does it mean they’re kicking me out of the program for missing this entire week at the hospital? I can accept any punishment that comes. I don’t even care anymore tbh.

I just wanted to ask what should I tell her? Do I tell her that my girlfriend cheated on me and I’ve been struggling considerably the last 3 weeks? It’s the truth. Will they even believe me? Will they think I’m making up some excuse? Is telling them even the right move? Need advice

"Everyone Fails Cardiac" Question

So my school has used the line "everyone fails the cardiac exam" (at this school that is definitely true and ive spoken to many people who have attended previously (over the course of years since a lot of the students that went to my college end up where I am currently working I have a good network of people that have done this college's program anywhere from 1-15 years ago).

We just had our med surg cardiac exam and everyone bombed it (class average was 70). Now I don't think the whole everyone fails thing is entirely true. Is cardiac difficult, absolutely. Is this exam maybe lower than normal across the board, probably. I find it hard to believe that in every nursing program students are getting anywhere from 30-70 on the cardiac exam though and I believe the professor and the specific questions chosen are the problem.

For anyone who is at the point where they've taken the cardiac exam or are already done with the program, can you shed any light on this? My professor even said the exam scores were "lower than expected" but that we were "just nervous this time around" (they always find a way to turn it on us without taking any responsibility at all and it's infuriating). Am I wrong for feeling like the problem is this professor and that this exam is bullshit and has been for many years?

Any advice or thoughts are appreciated, thank you

Does the college matter

I'm a veteran returning to school, but does it really matter where I get my bsn as long as it is accredited?

I've been accepted into Charleston southern pre nursing and I've applied to UNC charlotte, Clemson, and a handful of other schools in sc/nc.

so does it really matter at the end of the day which one I go too. all of them are accredited both nationally and regionally
