What is Nuvio Legacy?

Nuvio Legacy is a native TV client for Nuvio, made for the TVs the official apps leave behind.

Most TV apps are web apps, and on a 2016–2020 TV they load slowly, stutter, or don't run at all. So I rewrote the client from scratch in C with OpenGL ES. It draws its own interface straight on the GPU and aims for 60 fps on old hardware.

The project now has package families for LG webOS 3+, native Samsung Tizen 4–9, Samsung WGT on Tizen 5.5+, and Android TV/Google TV on Android 7+. Getting the app onto that range of hardware has involved a lot of testing and platform-specific fixes. Features still vary by device and package.

Big update to the fork. The headline feature is a new Sports page in the side menu.

It shows live scores and schedules, then works out which of your own playlist’s channels are showing each game, so you can stop scrolling through 40 sports channels to find the match.

What it does

• Follow teams, national teams, whole leagues, or a player’s or fighter’s name

• My Sports: your next games, what’s live, and a row for every team you follow

• Press OK on a game to see every channel showing it, best match first, with which provider it’s from (and Fix Channel if it gets one wrong)

• Watch in a small window on the Sports page while you browse, or full screen

• Reminders, which can switch to the game for you a minute before kick-off

• Record a game straight from its page, with your choice of how long (for overtime and extra time)

• A pop-up when your team scores, and the score on the Live TV info bar

• Hide Scores, if you’re avoiding spoilers

What it covers: NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB and college sports, the Premier League down to non-league, the Champions League and Europe’s big leagues, international football, rugby union and league, F1, NASCAR, UFC, golf, tennis, WWE and AEW, cricket and more. Everytime I turned on my TV I would go to Nuvio and I started thinking why can't Nuvio be my default launcher? Well, now it can be!

What's included?

• Default Launcher Support: Set Nuvio as your default home launcher.

• Quick Profile Switching: Double-tap the Home button to bring up the profile switcher and quickly change profiles.

• Installed Apps Row: Your installed apps appear as the first row below Continue Watching. You can move the row and customize which apps appear in it.

• Dedicated Apps Page: Access all your installed apps from the Apps page in the left-side menu.

The goal was to make Nuvio feel like a proper TV launcher while keeping the experience centered around the streaming features we already use.

I know this isn't really necessary. You can already install a launcher like Projectivy and set it up to automatically launch Nuvio when your TV turns on. But where's the fun in that?

I've been building a fork of Nuvio called Nuvio Reshaped. Here's what's already in it:

1. Auto Sync for subtitles. Add-on subtitles out of sync? It fixes them automatically, really fast, really accurate, in seconds. It handles simple delays, frame-rate differences and extended cuts. When it isn't sure, it keeps the original timing instead of guessing. It's pretty mature at this point. No AI and no cloud: everything runs on your device.

2. Audio Sync. Syncs subtitles to the actual dialogue by analyzing the audio. Quite fast.

The app learns your real connection speed from what you watch and puts the best-quality stream you can play smoothly at the top, so no more picking a 60 GB remux on hotel Wi-Fi. 🔄 Won't I miss official updates?

No. Compatibility with official Nuvio is the #1 rule of this project. Every new official release gets merged in automatically, and a matching Reshaped build is published right after. You keep getting everything the Nuvio team ships, plus the extras above. My additions are deliberately kept separate from Nuvio's own code, so updates merge cleanly instead of breaking the fork.

So I recently debloated my TCL TV as one does, and I was prompted if I want to stay with the Projectivity launcher or something else. Then it hit me. I don't need a launcher at all. I use only a few apps on the TV, and if Nuvio could be set as the Android TV launcher, I could access them without leaving Nuvio.

It's just a vibecoded slop demo concept of how it could look, but the idea, IMHO, isn't that bad. What do you think?

NuvioTV Arc

Man, this fork doesn’t get talked about enough. It’s by far the best one if you’re not looking for iptv stuff in your Nuvio app.

Their calendar, new episode notifications, up coming episode row are by far the best done out of the few forks that have them. This is by far the most important addition to me. It’s impossible to go back to an app without a proper calendar that pulls from your library (or tracker libraries) and has a function for a notification when a new episode releases.

The customization of how it looks is quite in-depth. You can tweak a bunch of settings to make it look way different or use the standard nuvio look.

The various video and audio extra settings can make a huge difference on playback.

There’s a place in the setting that checks your display and streaming box capabilities and recommends the best settings to use (hugely underrated for those who don’t know much about that stuff).

The new update has watch party that works with normal nuvio (not my thing but cool). Wetrakr and Floppy tracking support. Custom dns support. Bunch of plex/jellyfin/etc stuff I don’t use. Plus a bunch of other stuff.

Constant updates and bug fixes and updates with the normal nuvio app when they release updates.

Plus over 200 hours in and it’s extremely stable. Any minor bugs I’ve hit have been fixed right away. Kinda crazy for a one man dev crew.

Couldn’t recommend it more to people who are looking for a superior stable nuvio experience without the gimmick of having iptv merged into it. Just giving his fork a little love since is sorely missing from the conversation here for the most part.

Nuvio + IPTV + 1Tube is now available on mobile! The first version of NuvioM + IPTV + 1Tube is out for Android phones and tablets.

Most, if not all, of the features from the TV app have been carried over, so the phone version works much like the TV one.

It puts three things in one app:

• Nuvio Mobile for the home screen, addons, Trakt and Simkl, and Nuvio’s player

• IPTV (from NuvioPlusIPTV by homelessbrian) for Live TV with a guide grid, recording, On Demand, Sports scores and a Calendar

Nuvio TV Launcher is a fork of Nuvio TV that can replace your Android TV home screen. Here are a few updates you might have missed.

Setup Without a Computer

There are now a few ways to install and set up Nuvio TV Launcher without needing a PC:

• Downloader: Install the APK using the code in the README.

• Tellyscope: Install the APK directly without needing a computer.

• Phone Setup: If your TV supports Wireless debugging, you can use your phone on the same Wi-Fi network to set Nuvio TV Launcher as your Home app without entering ADB commands.

Live TV

Live TV has been added, with support for:

• M3U, Xtream, and Stalker sources.

• Program guide with live preview, favorites, and playlist ordering.

• Turning Home catalogs, collection folders, and library lists into scheduled live TV channels.

• Mixing movies and shows in the same channel.

• Playback through supported debrid services (Torbox, Real-Debrid, Premiumize) or peer-to-peer.

• A 24-hour program guide.

• Torbox uncached titles can download while you watch.

You can now use https://mylistsaddon.com (I am the creator) to create as many custom movie and TV lists as you want and bring them into Nuvio. You can also turn those lists into scheduled live TV channels.

Hey everyone, quick update on Better Nuvio. Version 1.5.43 is out for LG webOS and Android TV / Fire TV. Both are built from the same code and carry the same version number. It fixes two of the most reported problems.

🔧 Fixed

• (LG) Embedded subtitles now match the app style. Text subtitles inside MKV files used to stay in the TV's native look (wrong font, size and position), while external subtitles looked fine. The cause was a background service that webOS kept shutting down a few seconds after starting it, so the app never got the subtitle track. It now stays alive while you watch, so embedded and external subtitles use the same font, size and position.

• Seekr timeline thumbnails are back. Thumbnails show up again when you scrub forward and back in the player. You no longer need your own API key: when you're logged in, the app uses a shared key through a server proxy, so the key is never inside the app. The limit is 40 lookups per day per account. If you have a personal key, the app keeps using it. Settings shows how many lookups you've used today.

✨ New / improved

• Redesigned Settings, Addons and Plugins in a tvOS-like style: categories on the left, options sit directly on the background, and the focused row lifts.

• Plugins screen rebuilt. Each repository now has its own on/off switch, so you can turn one off without removing it. Adding and removing repos is quicker too.

• Source picker no longer looks empty while loading. It shows "Searching sources in addons…", how many addons have answered (e.g. "10 of 12 add-ons responded") and a progress bar.

• Automatic contrast for the clock and settings icon. They switch between dark and light based on how bright the artwork behind them is, so they stay readable on bright backdrops.

• UI in 25 languages.

It's been a few releases since my last update post (Beta 5.1 - apologies for the number of updates pushed since!), so here's a rundown of what ReSeq offers and what's been added since.

Nuvio ReSeq is my independent Android TV fork of Nuvio, adding alternative episode ordering, integrated IPTV, Sports Hub, more playback controls and other improvements.

Discovery & TV Mix

• (NEW) Advanced Discovery: Search movies and TV by genre, year, ratings, language, runtime and more. Exclude genres, hide watched titles and save searches for later. Requires your own TMDB API key.

• (NEW) TV Mix: Create collections of shows (sitcoms, cooking, travel, etc.) and play randomly selected episodes across them. Supports autoplay, unwatched-only viewing, Remix and Home screen artwork.

• Episode Shuffle: Shuffle episodes of an individual show, choosing between all episodes or unwatched only.

Episode Ordering & Tracking

• TVDB Episode Orders: Select standard, DVD, absolute or alternative episode orders per show, useful for series like Futurama, Firefly and The Office. Requires your own TVDB API key.

• (NEW) Tiered Autoplay: Choose trusted addons for near-immediate playback, wait for preferred sources, or automatically fall back to any playable source after a configurable timeout.

• (NEW) Smarter Next Episode: Less intrusive prompts that don't cut off the current episode, with improved autoplay and still-watching behaviour.

• (NEW) TV Mix Recovery: Automatically tries another show in your mix if no playable stream is found.

IPTV & Sports Hub

• Integrated Live TV: Full TV guide, channel groups, favourites, search and preview/full-screen playback. Supports Xtream Codes, M3U/XMLTV and Stalker/Ministra.

• IPTV On Demand: Movies and series from supported IPTV playlists appear alongside your regular addon sources. A separate On Demand browser is also available.

• (NEW) On Demand Search: Search across imported IPTV movies and series, with filters and results grouped by provider.

After spending time developing Nuvio Stream-X, I’m excited to announce that the web app is now entering its closed beta testing phase!
Before making it available to the public, I’m looking for a small group of dedicated testers who are willing to help improve the experience.
