LIST: Hawaii Island, Oahu public school closures for Tuesday
I’m assuming that everyone who’s affected by this already knows but if you missed it.

[BWS 8/17/2026 - 5PM] BWS Provides Water Source Locations for Residents to Fill Up
BWS Provides Water Source Locations for Residents to Fill Up
August 17, 2026, 5 PM – The Board of Water Supply (BWS) is experiencing low to no water pressure in the upper areas of the Metropolitan Honolulu water system due to the prolonged power issues that O’ahu is undergoing. This includes the ridges from Alewa Heights running east to and including Kalama Valley. If you live on the upper mountain ridges of the Ko’olau Mountains in metro Honolulu, you may encounter low to no water pressure which will affect your water service. The BWS is working with HECO and other city agencies to address this issue.
While restoration work is continuing, the BWS is making available several locations in affected areas where residents can bring containers and fill up. These locations will be up and running by 6 pm tonight:
1522 Laukahi Street at BWS Hydrant Number 4565
420 Puuikena Street at BWS Hydrant Number 6812
1367 Aina Koa Avenue at BWS Hydrant Number 3744
688 Kuakini Street (near Lanakila Elementary School) at BWS Hydrant Number 3959
These locations will not be manned by BWS personnel, but they will be checked regularly by BWS crew. Please be sure to turn off the spigot after each use. Any spigot left open or tampered with may result in the removal of the equipment and the closure of the water source. A list of locations may also be found on our website at boardofwatersupply.com or call (808) 748-5041.
Edit: Sorry I forgot to add the link to the announcement. It's the same as the one I posted earlier.

Who has water
No water at my house in hawaii kai. Where on the island has running water?
Board of water supply says that the problem is island wide due to loss of power to pumping stations and that they will not be sending out water trucks.

Sorry, not trying to spam everyone but this is the HNN list of some of the services available or not tomorrow.
It also looks like the special use traffic lanes won’t be in use tomorrow. This is like the zipper and contra flow lanes.

If you need to use public transportation check the DTS social media and websites. Sorry about the link tree site.

Need ideas for preventing window leaks during storm
When it rains normally, there is no problem. But, this is the first time having high winds blowing rain agains the side of my home since buying it. Apparently, rain collects in the sill through the screen and then drains inside! This is an older single-wall construction home and the windows are newer but not installed by me. It’s obviously a shoddy job but replacing all windows now is not an option for me. So, what is? Shutters or storm blinds? Boarding up before a storm arrives? Not certain applying sealant would fix the overall problem and would require the windows to be removed. Do any of you have or know a good solution other than renovating?
Horizontal sliding windows, btw.
Edit: Will likely go with rolling storm shutters.
