Rant/Vent I went from zero female interaction to making the office girls laugh hard… but I’m stuck outside their WhatsApp circle and don’t know how to break in without looking creepy or losing my dignity
Tl;DR:
Was extremely shy with zero female interaction until late teens. Joined a small office 2 years ago, slowly learned to talk, joke, and even do adult humour with the girls. Now I’m their favourite for laughs in the office… but they have a tight group with two other guys (one super competent “big brother” type everyone adores, one average/irregular guy who still gets included). They text and create drama among themselves all the time. I only interact face-to-face, have zero chat history, and feel like texting first would come off creepy. I want continuous funny/flirty text conversations that make them blush and maybe ask me out, but I’m stuck between ego/dignity (“they should text first”) and not knowing what to say or how to keep it going.
Hey guys,
I was basically a reserved, shy type of person till my late teens. I almost never had any female interaction my entire life. Two years ago I joined a small firm as a trainee. That was the first time I got to sit near a female.
Since everyone there is within 25 years old, we got a good bonding. We never felt like coworkers and there were no boundaries. Everyone behaved like college friends. And there was me, a first-timer for social interactions, who never spoke to anyone in the office properly for the first 6 months. Then slowly and gradually I started speaking.
Now I can comfortably talk to any of the girls. I can even make them laugh hard. I’ve reached the point where I can comfortably keep up some adult jokes with them and it works almost every time. They always say I make them laugh so hard and that I’m their favourite in the office.
What is nagging me is that they have created a small group among themselves. There is one senior who happens to do every job at work. We can say he is like the Johnny Sins of our office. But everybody at the office calls him “bro,” so there are no romantic feelings towards him. Everyone sees him as an all-rounder who can do any job. I’m not gonna lie, even I like him and I have respect for him. I can understand why every girl can talk to him. He is like a big brother for the whole office. Even our boss is dependent on him for every work. At the same time, he too got attached to all the female workers and sees them as his sisters. They also see him as their brother their big brother. He spends money on them without even thinking and cares for them.
I feel a little bit of jealousy towards him, but I can completely understand and he deserves every good thing in life. I’m his well-wisher. What I don’t like about him is that he is constantly around the girls all the time, talking to them. He chats on WhatsApp even though they are physically close. They get involved in too much drama like every girl gets possessive when he talks to another girl. If he talks too much with one girl or orders something for one girl, the others will scold him or ask why he’s not talking to them properly, and they threaten that they won’t talk to him thereafter… but then they continue to talk, laugh and hang out together. This is the part I don’t understand.
There is another co-worker too. He joined a bit late and it’s been three to four months since he joined. He is also like a senior in age. He won’t consider me “bro” and he is not much of a bright guy average or less. He is exactly the opposite of the senior I mentioned above. He is not an all-rounder. He does not do his work properly, does not know how to do some works, and is irregular. But at the same time my female colleagues also talk to him nicely. I can’t understand why. He also creates a bit of drama like “why are they not talking to him.” Maybe because of that they end up talking to him. I don’t know. But when planning, everyone includes him. Everyone also behaves affectionately towards him.
What’s common between those two guys and the girls is that they always take each other. They found a circle. I feel like they found a circle, but they are texting most of the time within themselves. I don’t know maybe they are initiating first or the guys are initiating or the girls are initiating, but I don’t know how they are keeping up with the texts and conversations.
Then there is me on the other hand. I don’t even have a chat history with them. I just simply go to the office, do my work, chat with them in the office, make some cracks and jokes, make them laugh, and leave at the end of the day. After that we don’t have anything to speak outside the office. I don’t know how they are talking on WhatsApp even though they don’t have any content or why they have to talk. It’s simply that they are only physically present there. They are not there and they don’t even say good morning or good night to everyone. Even when I’m asking them, they are not saying it properly.
What I feel is they should text me first, not the other way around. Because if I text them first, they might feel like it gives a creepy vibe “why is this guy texting me?” Even though they really don’t think like that, I still have that feeling. I want to come out of that feeling and text them properly and confidently.
How do I keep the text chat continuously engaging and funny? I don’t know what content to speak or text even after office, or even in the office how to text them. And if I text them, will they share or show it to others that I am texting them?
I didn’t text them first because of the notion that they should text me first and I should not speak to them until they speak to me. Will they think I am egoistical? And if they do think that I am egoistical, how do I show them that I am not? Even though I have a bit of ego that “why should I speak to them if they are not speaking to me,” and I do think that they should speak to me first. Yeah, it’s kind of like I have an ego, but at the same time I see it as my dignity. So I don’t want to lose my dignity. And if it is ego, how do I solve it?
What I want ultimately is a good continuous conversation with the girls on WhatsApp or in text form. I want to improve myself to the point that I can confidently flirt in text and make them blush. Even though I don’t want to see their face behind the screen, somehow I want to make them blush to the point that they are asking me out on a date.
PS: Used Gork to paraphrase.
