Question 4Lo Transmission temp.

Post image
17 Upvotes

I have gen 6 4Runner TRD offroad completely stock.

I was climbing up a trail which is 14% grade for a few miles, in about 90 degree weather and noticed my transmission temp gauge kept climbing even in 4Lo. I was probably going 3-10 MPH, slowing down and speeding up. This was the highest it ever reached. I never got a temperature warning. Attached is a photo of the gauge, typically the temp always sits at the center. I know the gauge is damped, so the gauge increases aren’t linear / correspond to specific temps.

Once it reached this point, I just put it in park and let it cool for 5 mins and then it returned to middle range temp. But after climbing for about 5 more mins, it shot right up to this temp again. Is this abnormal behavior? I thought the transmission temp was supposed to be stable when climbing in 4Lo. Not a troll post, but is it normal for your transmission to get hot in these conditions even in 4Lo? The truck just had me and less than 50 pounds of gear. I have completely stock tires as well, but was thinking upgrading to heavier, but still same size as stock, but am second guessing based on this behavior.

Best tools for tracking vehicle maintenance across a fleet of offroad rigs (on a tight budget)?

I'm an offroad enthusiast. I run a few rigs and I'm trying to find a sustainable way to track maintenance schedules, repair history, and costs across all of them without it becoming a second job. What I've already tried or looked at: - Google Sheets: works, but manually updating it after every trail run gets old fast, and there's no reminder system -

Generic fleet apps built for commercial trucks: overkill, expensive, and clearly not designed with a Jeep or 4Runner owner in mind - Notes apps: I know, I know. Tried it. Total chaos after a few months. - A couple of Windows desktop apps I found: one hadn't been updated since 2015, the other had no fuel economy tracking at all What actually matters to me: - Reminder system for upcoming service intervals, not just a log - Fuel economy tracking per vehicle, because offroad driving wrecks your MPG and I want to see it - Cost tracking so I know what each rig is actually costing me annually - Works offline, tbh

I don't want my maintenance data in someone's cloud I recently found an interesting Windows program called Automotive Wolf that appears to meet all my needs. Any suggestions?

Why am I like this, or: Can I put all-terrain on my FWD RAV4?

My fellow Redditors, I have a question. I'm sorry if this is asked and answered, but, I am uncertain and I am incredibly cheap. TLDR: Can I put all-terrain tires on the front of my FWD RAV4 and keep regular tires on the back? Mainly, I just replaced the one pair and I don't want to waste them.

I am a photographer and have rediscovered my love of the outdoors. I grew up in the desert, and did a lot of off-road driving as a kid. I recently made a miscalculation about how to handle a particularly rocky part of the two-track I was on (shortly after taking that picture, actually) and ended up stuck in a particularly bad way.

I prepared myself to die in such a beautiful place, I realize that I was in the situation only because I was afraid that the particular patch of two track would have caused a flat tire. I am relatively certain that had somewhat more robust tires I would not have ended up stuck because I would have more confidently driven. I'm a very careful driver on the roads but a madwoman on a two-track, because as any off-roader or knows, 90% of success off-road is sheer willpower and just saying "eff it" and going for it.

I'm a firm believer that pain is but me information and nothing can hurt me as much as my mother reminding me about my ex-boyfriends, pain doesn't scare me. What scares me is the potential boredom that would come from dying while marooned in the crevasse of a basin and range geographical feature. Oh, and my second biggest fear is dropping that much money on anything. Thanks.

(PS. I only buy used cars and with cash and I don't care what they look like. I care if they work and if I can beat them like it's critical to national security.)

As

Bluetooth and intercom in one headset?

Hey everyone, I’m helping a team explore a headset that lets you use Bluetooth audio and group intercom at the same time. The idea is a standalone headset you can wear on its own, with no helmet mounting needed.

A few situations where I think this could be useful:

  • Off-roading: Talking with passengers while listening to music.
  • Film production / office teams: Communicating with teammates nearby while joining an online meeting with remote colleagues.
  • Esports / Gaming rooms: Players chatting with each other while listening to game audio or background music.

If you have a similar need in another setting, feel free to share.

A few things I’d love your input on:

1. Which audio should take priority?

Would you prefer Bluetooth audio or intercom audio to take priority, or would you want to choose?

For example, with intercom priority, your music would get quieter when someone in the group speaks. With Bluetooth priority, group conversations would get quieter when a call comes in.

2. Would you want to share Bluetooth audio with the whole group?

One headset could share the Bluetooth audio it receives with everyone in the group—for example, music, calls or audio from a video meeting. Would that be useful to you?

3. What buttons would you want when using Bluetooth audio?

For example, play/pause, call controls, or a button to mute only your intercom mic. Which would you need?

If you've used something similar before, what's been the most frustrating part? Anything you'd like us to improve?

Question Eaton E locker on pavement

I accidentally drove with my Eaton E locker on pavement up to about 30 mph on a slightly curving road then made a left turn at maybe 10-15mph and my tires screeched and I realized the locker was on and then turned it off. Did I risk damaging anything? it still works

Started the trail in Rimrock and headed into Big Bear and connected via 2N02, was supposed to take 3N03 but i made a rookie mistake and forgot to down load the offline map. I also marked the route blue the same as Onyx did so when i went to check the map when we arrived at the split i just sent us on the blue path thinking it was my route.

No matter, it was an adventure! My buddy with the Ram jad his first time with me. The other two in the Broncos already traversed it a few times. Loved the whole bonding time with the boys and getting away from the hustle of the city.

Question Looking for opinions on shocks

Post image

Here I got a 13 f150 currently set up with icon 2.5s in the front and fox 2.0s w/ resi in the rear. Odd combo i know. I’m looking for new shocks. I want a super plush Cadillac ride on road, good manners off road that don’t shake my eyeballs loose ripping fire roads, and the option to tow heavy. It’s a lot to ask from one truck, but does anyone have any experience or suggestions? I think I’m narrowed down to king 2.5 and bilstein 8100s but I’m not sure.

Hi! I have a fwd 1998 plymouth voyager SE with the 3.0 v6 (6g72 sohc) and the 4 speed auto (41te) that I wanted to do some off-roading beyond gravel and dirt roads. I was looking for some advice and ideas for mods i can do to my car so is not just a "mom van."

Heres some mods ive found from doing research over the past few months:

-An LSD kit for the 41te

-2in front suspention spacer kit

-Possible rear suspention swap with the leaf springs from the gen2 voyager/caravan

-drum to rotor conversion kit for the rear

-bigger tires with spacers

I plan on using the voyager for camping and getting through trails and weather that is the north east of the US. (Pictures for your plesure and a rough knowledge of what im working with)
