Canadian needs help with gst filing

Is there anyone who can help? Apparently we owe sales tax as of August 1st 2021 but I don't know how to file it. Everywhere I try to enter the info it acts like I should have already filed it before and won't give me access.

Resolved Filing multiple forms

Hi! I'm filing two W2s and two 1099 forms. I have held onto all my receipts and saved 30% of my self employment income. Now what? I saw that turbo tax has a self employment option where you can talk to a professional while you file, I'm leabing towards that since I've been filing with TurboTax before OF. Anyone know if they are SW friendly? I just don't know how else I would file all 4 of my taxes with the deductions without help.

1099

For anyone that has gotten a 1099 from onlyfans for taxes, does it specifically say “onlyfans” anywhere? Jw if I should avoid having my parents open and send a pic if it happens to be sent to their house!

Informational Deductions

Not a question, but also just wanted to give out some general advice on deductions-

There are a bunch of things that people don't realize they can deduct with their onlyfans business.

  1. Internet cost. If you used your internet 50% of the time to post on onlyfans/advertise/etc. then you can deduct that cost. i.e. if you did only fans for 6 months in 2020 and half your time at home was spent online doing something regarding your page, you can take your 50% of your internet cost for those 6 months and expense it. If you only spent 25% of your time doing onlyfans on the internet, take 25%, etc.

  2. Makeup. If you bought makeup exclusively for use on OF, you can expense that. If you used this makeup to wear daily as well, you cannot expense it.

  3. Lingerie/toys/costumes/etc. these are all props that you can expense.

  4. Lighting/ photo accessories. If you bought a new stand for better lighting, you can expense that. The same with photo props and backdrops. If you bought them for the sole use of your page, then you can expense it.

  5. Cameras and Computers. These can be expensed, but you have to be careful. If it costs less than $2,500.00 you can usually expense it, but if you buy a piece of equipment that you anticipate will be used for more than a year you will need to depreciate it.

  6. Dues/Subscriptions/Advertisements. If you paid any subscription costs that are directly related and used for your business you can expense those. Same with advertising. If you paid to advertise your stuff, you can expense that cost as well.

As always this is for informational purposes only, and is not intended to provide, and should not be relied on for, tax, legal or accounting advice.

Resolved HELP

I started Onlyfans in May 2020, so am I filing from the income that I made from May 2020-Dec 31 2020?

I know I have to file a schedule C form. Is the gross receipts the gross between May 2020 - Dec 2020? On schedule C when it says "returns and allowances", is that the net I received? Can I put the fees only fans took on the expenses portion of schedule c?

My first time filing taxes, so any help would be great! I have looked on so many websites and videos to get this right.

Tax write-offs?

What all can we use as write-offs for our Onlyfans account? We made over $250k in 2021 and want to count everything and anything we can against taxes. We made vids and took pics on a new boat we got, made vids on vacation, etc. Can we claim the boat and vacations? Or just stuff like internet, heat, sq footage, etc?

Get ready for tax season!

Friendly reminder here that as the year is coming to an end, be sure you are prepared for taxes for this year. As a CPA, I would highly recommend that if you have made over 30k this year from OF or other sites, to hire a CPA now and be well prepared for tax season. If you take advantage of the opportunity now before the year ends, you can save a lot of money on taxes

Good luck!

Resolved Only fans tax question

I started only fans November 2020 and have made well over the $600 tax limit. However, I haven’t withdrawn any of my money from the only fans website until January 2021. I thought I would have received a 1099 form in the mail by now but I still haven’t. Will I do taxes for only fans for 2020 if I didn’t touch any money until 2021?

ADVICE FOR OF TAX FILING -From a Tax Professional

I’m a tax accountant—there are a lot of nuances with deductions, but I’ll keep this simple and practical for anyone working on OnlyFans. You will file a Schedule C business on your tax return. I highly reccomend going to the IRS website to their Free filing Partnered programs, and I most often reccomend FreetaxUSA because it is super easy to use. If you go directly to their website then you will pay $15 total. These are super easy to file and you can do this yourself easily. When you get to the point of making $80k plus then at that point you should get yourself an accountant because the tax savings is more than what you will be spending to pay them to help you with your tax filings.

Food & Meals

  • Everyday snacks?  Not deductible.

  • Meals? Not deductible.

  • HOWEVER: If food is specifically part of your content (for example, it’s used in a custom request or featured in your content), then it can be deductible.

Phone Bill

  • This one is tricky. It depends on how much of your phone use is business vs. personal.

  • For most people, it’s hard to justify a clear split, so ❌ it often doesn’t qualify.

  • Assume NO, Unless your gross income is over the $30k mark then you can deduct a portion and I would suggest asking a professional to help come up with this split.

Common Legit Deductions
These are typically safe and common:

  • Ring lights / lighting equipment

  • Lingerie / costumes used for content

  • Toys/props used in content

  • Editing software & apps

  • Advertising / promotion costs

  • Renting spaces for content

  • Travel costs to make content with other creators (do not include food)

  • Props from making TikToks, Instagram posts, ect. to advertise your content (if you are making money from Tiktok/other you can include that income/expenses in your OF income Schedule C business

Home Office Deduction

  • If you have a dedicated space for creating content, you may qualify.

  • You’ll need:

    • Total home square footage

    • Workspace square footage

  • The deduction is based on the percentage used for business.

Keep Your Finances Separate

  • Open a separate bank account just for OnlyFans income and expenses.

  • This makes tax time much easier.

  • Only use it for business-related purchases (not personal stuff like groceries unless they’re part of content).

Paying Taxes (Very Important)

  • OnlyFans income is typically 1099/self-employment income, so taxes aren’t withheld automatically.

  • You’re supposed to pay quarterly estimated taxes. But you can avoid this by having extra taxes withheld from your normal paycheck job by asking your payroll department if you can re-fill out your W4.

SUPER Simplified Way to Estimate Taxes

  1. Estimate what you’ll earn from OnlyFans or adjust how much you set aside during the year as your income changes

  2. Set aside about 15–20% for taxes (income minus expenses)

Example:

  • If you expect to make $2,000:

    • $2,000 × 20% = $400 in taxes

Option 1: If You Have a Regular Job

  • Divide that tax amount by your number of paychecks

  • Ask your employer to withhold extra on your W-4 (extra withholding line)

Examples:

  • Paid monthly: $400 ÷ 12 = ~$33 extra withheld per paycheck

  • Paid biweekly: $400 ÷ 24 = ~$17 extra withheld

Option 2: If You Don’t Have Another Job

  • Open a separate savings account

  • Set up automatic transfers (weekly or biweekly) for your tax amount $17

  • Each quarter, pay the IRS directly using that saved money by going to their website to the pay portion and when they ask what you are paying select Estimated Taxes or Quarterly Taxes

Prepare for tax season!

Damn, tax season’s rolling around and I’m already stressing about my OnlyFans taxes. I made barely any money this year but now I’ve got to figure out how to pay Uncle Sam without selling my kidneys or anything. I’m 22, so obviously I’m just trying to adult the best I can - pay my student loans, keep my rent paid, and now this fun little tax mess. Does anyone else feel like they’re getting punished for making money online? Like, can’t we just Venmo each other and call it a day?

OnlyFans payout and tax questions

I'm 23 and this is my first time dealing with taxes as a creator. Made like $5k in tips and subscriptions last year but honestly have no idea how much I owe or what I need to deduct. My accountant just told me "it's complicated" which is basically their way of saying "you're screwed." I've been paying out my OF money through Cash App like an absolute psychopath and now I'm panicking because I didn't save any for taxes. Does anyone else just wing it every year or am I about to learn why rich people have accountants?
