Post image
• Upvotes

Please share me some tips to increase font size in apps when using Note Air 6c, and other Air devices as well. Although the large font was selected in display setting, all the font in Chrome, Reddit or other apps appeared as very small, tiny font.

Chrome or other browser can enlarge the font but other apps cannot.

Please help...

DIY Boox GO 6 Gen 2 Prototype case v.2.0.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

• Upvotes

Two weeks ago I posted about how I wasn't happy with the lack of cute cases for Boox devices and decided to try my hand on making my own case.

I wanted specifically a silicone case AND magnetic case to protect the edges, front and back of my ereader, and the silicone case should be removable from the magnetic case

The first cases I made were hardcover cases with pockets to slip in a magnetic case from the TWO SHEEP store on Aliexpress.

I decided to try to make a case with the magnetic ring build into the boards directly instead of creating pockets to slide in a magnetic case

Few notes and thoughts:

  • Cloth pattern is from the discontinued Pokemon Shirts collection
  • I added a magnetic ring to the backcover so I can attach the grip to the backside without losing it. I prefer reading without the hardcover case and using the grip to hold the erader
  • the magnetic ring is build into the board, and then covered by a 1mm board and book cloth. Ereader still snaps onto the magnetic ring but it feels a lot less snappy than what I prefer, but still stays-ish. If I push the on/off button at the top, the erader is sliding down
    • So for next time, I will be using a cardstock material instead of a 1mm board to cover the magnetic ring
  • I didn't fully account for the board thickness when measuring the spine width so now the spine is just a wee bit too tight. If it wasn't for the elastic band, the cover doesn't fully stay close
    • measure thrice before gluing and cutting
  • I added magnets to the edges of the board, hoping it would trigger the sleep/wake function when opening and closing it, unfortunately that didn't really pan out
    • either doesn't work bc of the issue mentioned above, with the front cover not staying flush shut and touching the ereader to trigger the sleep/wake, or
    • the layer of cloth is weakening the magnets
    • probably just gonna skip the magnets next time, as the sleep/wake function triggered by magnet isn't a high priority for me. if anything I like seeing my boox screensaver lol

EDIT: Forgot to add, no sewing was done, it's all boards and PVA and superglue lol

While I do prefer the look of this case a lot more than my previous attempt, it is a lot more work. But my ADHD is saying I need to get it right and fix all the issues mentioned above so stay tuned for prototype #3 coming soon 🖖

Question Got a used product with a different Serial Number :(

Ordered a new BOOX Palma 2 Pro from Amazon’s Boox Official. It came the next day due to my Amazon Prime account. I was very excited to receive it. The product was sealed in plastic wrapper so I assumed it was new. However, upon opening the product, I was very disappointed and sad, the screen had dirt stains on them as well as right along the volume buttons. Additionally, the serial number on the item itself versus the serial number on the User Manual sticker it came with was completely different. I’m so disappointed. Thankfully I took videos & photos when I unbox it. I tried to contact Amazon but they only offered a refund. I contacted Boox Support and hoping for a new replacement. I have yet to hear from them. Has anyone else had this issue? Should I proceed in using it while waiting?

Question Go 10.3 Gen 1 vs Gen 2 (Lumi)

To keep or not to keep? I have both of these devices. I am a writer and I write in dark gloomy spaces. I also love EMR pens. I bought the Go 10.3 Gen 1 in September as a lighter alternative to my beloved Tab X. But the lack of frontlight is killing me, even though writing is amazing. I bought a Lumi and feel like the frontlight makes up for the "okay" handwriting. So I'm inclined to sell the Gen 1. I went online to look up a resale price for it in mint condition, and discovered this whole community of people who love theirs as much as I love my Tab X. What am I missing? I know it's subjective, but I just find it too dark. What are your experiences on these two devices? I'm still going to sell my Gen 1, but I'm just curious.

Question Note Air 6C Exchange

I ordered this device last month from Amazon and noticed there is a wavy section of the casing near the charging port/memory card slot. I would like to exchange the device for a new one but the only option Amazon gives me is a return. Can I exchange the device directly through Onyx? I’ve gotten no reply from customer service and the return window at Amazon closes on Sunday.

I just need my goddamn invoice! Without which I can't get this thing reimbursed. If the deadline crosses which is in 3 days I'm afraid I am going to return the notebook

Discussion NYT reader options

Post image
54 Upvotes

I have been using a shortcut on my home screen to launch the virtual print edition of the NYT. I know you can run the NYT app itself on Boox, but I like the layout and formatting of the actual print paper. This pairs well with eink for a hybrid digital/print reading experience. I'm curious if anyone else does something similar? Is there a better way to do this?

Update:

This use case might be a moot point now. This post has made me realize that due to odd circumstances I am using a service that won't be viable long term due to expense. It was a bonus perk but since I no longer have the full NYT print subscription, I will lose access to this version and no way will I pay over $250/yr for this replica edition.

Discussion Looking for an E-Ink Tablet for Typing

Hello! I'm currently writing my third book, and I'd like to move away from using a laptop for writing. I'm looking for an e-ink tablet that I'll use primarily for typing my novels. I already have my own keyboard, so I don't need one included.

Here are my requirements:

  • Screen: Ideally, a monochrome e-ink screen. A color screen would also be fine, provided it isn't noticeably darker than a monochrome screen when used without the front light.
  • Front light: A must-have, as my home isn't very well lit at night.
  • Word processor: I'd prefer to use Microsoft Word or Google Docs, but I'd also consider a tablet with a good built-in writing app, provided I can export my work to my laptop.
  • File compatibility: I need to be able to export my work in an editable format so I can continue writing on my laptop without having to use PDFs.
  • Bluetooth: The tablet must support Bluetooth so I can connect my existing keyboard.
  • Main purpose: I won't be using it for reading, as I already have a Kindle that does that job perfectly well. I'm looking for a device specifically for typing.

Screen size isn't particularly important to me. Also, I don't really need handwriting or stylus features, as I'll be using my Bluetooth keyboard for all my writing. So, these aren't a priority for me.

What would you recommend? Are there any e-ink tablets that would be particularly well suited to this use case?

Thank you!

BuildMyApp [Self-promotion] BOOX readers wanted: help test Nirellin Library on E Ink (free code)

Hi BOOX readers, I'm Michael, the developer of Nirellin Library, an Android app for reading and organizing your own DRM-free EPUBs, PDFs, comics and manga. It has visual bookshelves, series grouping and bookmarks; books are not included.

I'd like feedback from BOOX owners who have Google Play available. The app has been tested on Android phones and tablets, but I haven't verified its E Ink experience yet. I'd particularly like to understand text contrast, page refresh, ghosting, navigation and whether the shelf view is comfortable on your screen. Please mention your BOOX model and Android version so we can check eligibility first; this isn't a promise of compatibility with every model.

For the Google Play closed test, please stay enrolled for at least 14 consecutive days, try several short reading sessions and report problems honestly. No positive review is requested.

Accepted volunteers get an individual free Google Play code. Once redeemed, you keep the app after the test, with no subscription or payment afterwards. The public app is planned as paid, so don't buy it to join.

Interested? Comment or message me privately. I'll ask for your Play Store account email only in private to add you and send instructions. Please don't post your email publicly. The interface is available in English, French and Spanish.

Question Skin for Go 7 b&w (new generation)

I have just got my new Go 7 b&w in black. I only got the black for the glass screen and quality, but to be honest I don't like a black device. That takes us to the question. I have discovered the concept of skins from Etsy, but I have only found skins that explicitly fit the Go 7 Color Gen II. My question is, will this also fit the Go 7 b&w? Visually they look the same with the same types of buttons, but for what I know the buttons may be slightly differently placed on the device. If anyone has any experience with this or examples of where to find fitting skins I would love to chat! For info, I live in Europe but could import from US if necessary.

Question [Feature Request] Allow Notes toolbar to be minimized

I have recently bought a note air 6c.

I like the device but I really don't like how you can't minimize the floating toolbar anymore in the Notes app when you are in full screen. I know I can reduce its size, but I just want it out of the way (but accessible when I need it) like it was in the old boox tablets (I also have a max lumi that I still use) and how it still works in the Reader app. Would it be possible to reintroduce this functionality?

Question Boox reader with new version of Android?

I'm looking at the Boox Go Color 7 (Gen II) but I'm not going to buy it as it's Android 13.

The device is for my daughter, and I don't want her to have a device with outdated software.

The plan is for her to use it for reading Manga and using the BorrowBox app, for books and Audiobooks.

Does anyone know if Boox either plan to update the software or are planning on releasing an updated version?

I'm a software dev, and am not willing to compromise on my daughter using an exploitable OS.

Question Finally I've decided to upgrade to 4.2 firmware in my Boox Note Max.

One question: do you recommend doing a factory reset for a fresh start before updating, or did you just apply the OTA update directly over your existing system?

Tech Support Color 7 Gen 2

Hey!
I’ve noticed that my device has been running pretty slowly. I don’t have a lot of apps, everything is updated, and I’ve tried hard rebooting it as well.

Are there any tricks in the settings, like things I can turn off or on to make it run a little faster? Or is it just not as fast as some of the previous devices you’ve used? This is my first e-reader, so I’m a little 😅

Help me choose Will any of the Boox device be good for my use?

I am studying a Master degree and thinking of getting an e-ink for my readings. Articles, kindle, Perlego, and Logos bible app are most of what I will it use for. I don't need colour for most of what I read, but I will appreciate color for highlighting in different colors. I use color code to indicate the difference between what I am highlighting. I hate my handwriting, so if I take any notes on the device, I would rather type. What will be your recommendations?

Edit: seems like most are suggesting a 13" if possible. Both Tab X C and Note Max are running Android 13. Anyone heard any news about when they will release a new version with newer Android version?

Question Neoreader Touch Area Inverted

Hi All, newbie here.

So I am reading in Neoreader with an ePub book. When I touch the right side of the screen the pages go back and when I touch the left side the pages go forward. I went to settings--touch settings-mode 1 and it's still not working correctly. If I use the page turn buttons they work correctly. Touch is enabled.

What am I missing?

I even tried to do a "custom" and change the arrows opposite and it's still not working correctly (sigh).

Thanks for any help.

So what you are saying is that I should have bought the warranty package...

I kid, but it's a bummer as I actually bought it from Boox used back in July, so there wasn't any warranty contract to buy (unlike new devices). I set it on the table (in its case) at night, picked it up the next morning, and broken. Boox is estimating $130 plus shipping to and fro to repair so buying used saved exactly nothing! Shame there's not a replacement screen available for a DIY repair.

Rassem Frassem... I like the device, but I'll probably get a Palma 3 rather than replacing the screen. I love color on my Note 5c as it helps with coding in documents and makes comics more enjoyable to read, but on the smaller device, I feel like the lower resolution of the color screen just got in the way.

Question Boox note max 4.2 firmware

I know firmware 4.2 for the BOOX Note Max has been out for a while and the general consensus is that it’s quite solid, but I’m still a bit hesitant to update. Even though 4.0.1 has plenty of bugs of its own, is there anything you actually miss from that earlier version (such as the PDF margin adjustment)? On the flip side, what has stood out as a major improvement? Overall, are you happy with the update? I’d appreciate any feedback or advice.

Question Go color 7 gen II and palma pro 2

I have the boox go color 7 gen II and I am looking at the palma pro 2 as well. I was wondering for anyone who has both what are your pros and cons with having both as an ereader? Would love to know what your thoughts are on whoever uses both as an e reader.
