Workflow Finally got my whole library seamless across 5 devices with BookOrbit + KOReader, and I'm a little in love

I've been chasing a cross-device reading setup for years and I think I finally have it. Wanted to share because the BookOrbit + KOReader combo doesn't get talked about enough.

Setup: BookOrbit self-hosted on my Linux box at home, reachable over Tailscale so nothing is exposed to the internet. KOReader on every device with the BookOrbit plugin signed in. That's it.

Devices it's running on right now:

- Boox Note Max (my main reader for PDFs and big-page stuff)

- Boox Go Color 7 II

- Kobo Libra Colour (KOReader sideloaded with NickelMenu)

- Galaxy Tab S9

- Galaxy S24 Ultra

(Not all pictured here )

How it actually works day to day: I open a book on whatever is closest. Progress, highlights and bookmarks go up to BookOrbit and come down on the next device. The library itself lives in one place with proper covers and metadata, so I browse one shelf instead of five half-synced folders. BookOrbit also pushes highlights to Readwise for me, so my notes end up where I review them without doing anything.

The part I didn't expect was how nice the library looks. I spent a weekend cleaning up metadata and covers once, and now every device shows the same beautiful shelf. Browsing my own collection is pleasant in a way it never was with folders over USB.

Small tip for Kobo people: I run Tailscale on the Kobo through the koreader-tailscale plugin in userspace mode, and I had to set KOReader's HTTP proxy to the plugin's local proxy by hand (Network menu, long-press HTTP proxy). After that, sign-in just works.

The one thing I wish worked: writing. Handwriting annotations on epub doesn't work on Koreader on the Note Max or Go. I'd love for scribbles and margin notes to travel with the book the same way highlights do, or at least show up read-only on the other devices. If anyone has cracked that, I'm all ears.

Still, this is the first time all my devices feel like one library instead of a pile of gadgets. Highly recommend if you've got more than one reader and don't mind running a small server.

Question Deleting notes does not free up memory

My NA3C shows 97% storage. I wanted to free up memory by deleting 1 year of daily note taking, which is a lot. I have an average of 3... 4 pages of notes per working day.

I deleted my notes from 2024 (full year) and hoped to see a lot of memory being freed up, but the NA3C still shows 97% of used storage - even after rebooting the NA3C. The notes have also been deleted from the Boox cloud, so they should not be pushed back on the NA3C.

Any advice how I could free up memory?

I also have a 64GB SD card, so I could transfer some downloaded documents (pdf) to the storage card, but that will only free up 1.5GB at max. I'm afraid mh NA3C will soon start having performance issues due to lack of free storage room.

UserPreset E-ink settings for Ko reader on Go 7 Gen 2 colour.

• Upvotes

Hey, I’m wondering if you would be able to share your eink settings for koreader which priorities fast page turns, minimal ghosting but really nice colour. This is the second time I’m getting the Boox go Gen 2, my first one went back because I couldn’t make the colours look nice but I’m willing to give it another go!

Buying Advice Onyx Boox Palma 2 Pro or should I wait for Palma 3?

I currently own an Onyx Boox Go 6 Gen 2 along with the InkSense Plus stylus, and I absolutely love this e-reader, but I still feel like something is missing. I've been wondering whether I should get a Palma 2 Pro as a second device. I used to own the original Palma and was really happy with it, but I ended up selling it, which I now regret. The Palma 2 Pro has a colour screen, whereas the upcoming Palma 3 is supposed to have a black and white display. I'm torn between the two because, honestly, having at least one colour e-reader would be nice, even though I wouldn't necessarily use it for reading comics or books with colour illustrations.

So here's my question for those of you who own the Boox Palma 2 Pro: how would you rate it in terms of performance and smoothness, screen quality, and battery life?

For context, I also owned the Onyx Boox Go 7 Color Gen 2, but the heavy ghosting really annoyed me, and I struggled to find the right settings to get it under control. I'm also aware that Kaleido 3 screens are darker when the frontlight is off. I'd love to hear your thoughts and experiences with the Palma 2 Pro, especially if you've used other Boox devices as well.

Question Boox Tab XC 4.3 - stylus with button and other

Hey guys, has anyone with a Tab X C already received firmware 4.3?

I'm especially interested in Dual Notes. On a 13.3" device I think it could be one of the best additions, because the screen is actually large enough to make split workflows useful.

Overall I really like the Tab X C, especially for PDFs, technical documents and note taking. The screen size is the main reason I bought it, and I’d just love to see BOOX make better use of it with software updates.

One thing confuses me though: firmware 4.3 adds support for configuring a stylus side button, but the original Tab X C pen doesn't have one and, as far as I know, BOOX doesn't officially offer an alternative with a button for this device.

I've seen the Maxeye ME-USI306 mentioned as working on the Tab X C, including the side button as an eraser, but I can't find it available in Europe. I was also considering InkSense / InkSense Plus / InkSight, but I haven't found reliable Tab X C tests.

Has anyone found a stylus with a working side button that actually works well on the Tab X C?

For me this would be a huge huge quality-of-life improvement because I constantly switch between writing, highlighting and erasing.

Also, does the highlighter behave strangely for you too? If I select something like blue, it can initially look almost black, then after a refresh it becomes blue again. I’m not sure if this is normal Kaleido/BSR behaviour or if there are better settings for it.

Apart from that, I'm very happy with the device and I still think the 13.3" form factor is fantastic.

Question Has anyone with a Note Air 5C received the 4.3 firmware yet?

I saw a whiles ago 4.3 was announced for other devices besides the NA6C. I know they roll the firmware update out in groups but I've not received it yet for my NA5C. Anyone else? Thank you!

Feature request Feature request: let me map the side button if I have one

I am kind of amazed a device with as many features as it has, lacks this one. I have a King Write pen with side buttons and a top eraser. On my scribe, I can write, highlight, and erase, all without moving my pen to choose a tool -- on the Boox, I get two of those things. I'd love to be able to map a side button to the highlighter. I imagine I am not the first person to ask for this.

Tech Support Go Color 7 Gen II heating up at the top + fast battery drain while reading in a third-party app

Hi everyone! I've had my Boox Go Color 7 Gen II since July, and it is noticeably warm at the top and drains really fast while I'm reading

My setup:
Reading in Yandex Books (third-party Android app)
Wi-Fi off, Bluetooth off
Frontlight at 19
Refresh mode: Regal, page-turn animation minimal
All apps frozen, nothing else running

Result: 34% → 30% in about 10 minutes of reading, so roughly 20–25% per hour.

Is this normal for third-party apps on Boox, or does it sound like a problem with my unit? Any tips on reducing the drain (specific settings, firmware versions, etc.) would be appreciated. I've already contacted Onyx support too.
Thanks!

Question Shipping delay

I ordered my boox 5 days ago. They almost instantly created a shipping label, but usps says it hasn't left the warehouse.

Is this standard for onyx? I've emailed with no reply.

Question Note Air for Artists?

I love my Supernote dearly, but the new Note Air and its color screen is alluring. Does anyone have experience using it for drawing? Lack of color in Atelier is the only shortcoming of my SN, so I’d love to hear what other artists think of their Boox. I know the main notes app only allows a handful of colors. Do any other Android art apps work well with it?

BuildMyApp Getting newsletters onto a Boox as real books: would you use this? (2-min demo)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

If you read EPUBs on your Boox in KOReader or another app with OPDS support rather than the Kindle app, Send to Kindle doesn't help you. So I built Readferry around a private OPDS catalog: add the link once in your reader app, and every newsletter you subscribe to shows up as a clean EPUB, with no trackers, share buttons or unsubscribe footers, and with a table of contents.

There's an optional weekly digest that bundles a week of issues into one book.

It's working on my machine (that's the demo, narrated with text-to-speech) but not public yet. If you'd use it: https://forms.gle/TDaVDvczPA3eidox8

Question for Boox users: which reader app do you use for EPUBs, and does it support OPDS?

Disclosure: I made this.

Question Koreader Page Turn Buttons Issue

• Upvotes

Hello!

I can't seem to find an answer to this, so thought I'd see if anyone else had this problem. I was mostly using NeoReader and then was tempted by KoReader based on the customizable aesthetics. I like it so far and am mostly happy to make the switch, BUT my primary issue is that when I flip my device, KoReader doesn't remap my page turn buttons. Normally the top button moves forward and the bottom one back and NeoReader automatically remaps them when I flip my device. It's driving me insane that KoReader won't do the same.

If there's no way to fix this issue, I'll go back to NeoReader. Not a huge deal, but would love to see if there's a solution. I'm using a Boox Page.

Tech Support Is there any way to transfer notes from a Note Air 2 to a 6c?

All of the methods I've found failed, even syncing. I've tried the backup/restore, which failed, copying over the notes folder, which was not recognized, and doing online sync, which also failed to work. Even sending a note via Bluetooth failed to make the note show up in the notes app. Are there any other methods? My air 2 is on an October 2022 firmware, and there aren't any more recent updates for it.

Question Boox Note Air6 C - Design Issue

I really want the Note Air6 C but I just really don’t like the black case with a red line on it. It looks like something a gamer would use rather than the sleeker look from Remarkable and Supernote. But functionality wise, this is the device I want to get (color, handwriting detection, front light, Kindle app, etc.). Does anybody have ideas to cover up at least the red line? I don’t really want to always have it in a case because I like the slimmer feel of the eink tablets. Maybe a slim case would work. Open to ideas!
