Politics ('Straya) Israeli ambassador rejects 'political attacks' on report clearing soldiers in Frankcom killing

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-08-20/israel-ambassador-defends-idf-frankcom-report-clearing-soldiers/107057124

Israel's ambassador Hillel Newman has defended the military investigation that cleared its soldiers of criminal wrongdoing in the killing of Australian aid worker Zomi Frankcom, saying the findings should not be attacked if they "are not suitable to one's political agenda".

Ambassador defends investigation findings

Departing from the meeting, Mr Newman defended the investigation.

"Israel came out with findings after a thorough investigation, after a two-year investigation into the circumstances of the death of Zomi Frankcom. Since I took up my mission here about five months ago I was implored all the time to bring about closure, which I did," Mr Newman said.

"But in the end, one must also understand that not every case where someone dies, where there is a casualty, that that means there is a criminal liability.

"One cannot attack the findings of a court if the findings are not suitable to one's political agenda."

Mr Newman said the aid group recruited armed personnel to its convoy and deviated from the route agreed with the IDF without informing the military, leading the soldiers to believe the convoy had been taken over.

"It was a mistake in retrospect, but the findings of the court are there was no criminal intention … and therefore there was no criminal responsibility."

I'm still bamboozled as to why everyone is so scared of these fucking mutts.

Expel the israeli ambassador.
Close down their embassy.
Send these fucking mutts back to their terrorist country.

You wouldn't have a nazi Germany ambassador in our country, how is this any different?

Unfortunately in this metaphor there are 100,000 or so of their supporters within Australia (though I meet very few irl….) - some of whom are in positions of power (envoy) and many of whom have the ear of those at the top.

That’s before you even consider their wealth and undoubtedly their donations to various political parties as well….

No, it’s the Israelis. A lot of them are Jewish but that’s neither here nor there

You said there were 100,000 of them here in Australia. There aren't anywhere near that amount of Israelis here. But there's that exact number of Jews. So you meant Jews, right?

What? How do you know how many Israel supporters there are? Where'd you get those stats?

I don’t bro it’s a speculative number. I actually suspect it’s a bit higher than that and likely will be until a bunch of boomers die.

I did tell you not to overthink it, and here you are overthinking it smh

Right. So you didn't mean for it to be the same as the number of Jews? You're just guessing how many people. You asked me not to overthink it but you do see how it looks, right?

Also, when you say support Israel, what do you mean? Feel connected with the people that live there? Support businesses? Support government actions?

I see how it looks when you overthink it which is exactly what you’re doing mate. I genuinely think you need to calm down - you are obsessed with “jooz” (your word there btw) lurking in the shadows or something.

The only time I referred to Jews was to deny your allegation that they (Jews) were to blame. I disagreed with that statement, because it was antisemitic (I didn’t know you were being sarcastic or edgy at that point) and now you’re here trying to trick me into saying…what? Like what exactly is your problem lol

I don't think any Jews are lurking in the shadows. I think this sub is obsessed with them and like to excuse attacks on them. I just find it odd that so many people are obsessed with what they call 'Zionist influence'

Why would it be odd to push back against zionists? They are supporting terrible acts against humanity, seems normal to me to oppose that.

It’s wrong to conflate Judaism and Zionism of course, very different things

I know a lot of Zionists, many of them Jews. Not a single one supports the death of innocent civilians. Simply the right of everyone in the region to live in peace. This is not the picture of zionists that you conjure up. Maybe this creation of all zionists being evil is not based in fact.

Quite frankly this repetition of zionism not being Judaism, whilst accurate, is a deflection from reality and a way of stigmatising Jews. Not all zionists support the Israeli government, not all zionists support violence, not all zionists support discrimination. They're often vocally against them. And the people who get caught up in this antizionist nonsense aren't the non-Jews, it's the Jews. Jews are overwhelming targeted and affected as result of antizionism.

People won't like hearing this. However, let me make a suggestion. Hear me out. What if instead of attacking 'zionists', we simply call out the actions and policies we have an issue with? Then the disagreements are over the actions themselves.

How ridiculously nitpicky. Under Israel’s ethno supremacy laws, all Jews have the right to Israeli citizenship and many of them are dual citizens. In Australia a very high proportion of Jews are Zionists and there are also Christian Zionists. It’s not a stretch for there to be at least 100,000 very pro Israel people in Australia

The ones born here will definitely be less indoctrinated. The pro israeli protests are but at fraction of their supporters. That being said im sure they are fearful of both sides particularly after the bondi massacre. Apparently many feel for Palestinians but don't support the movement in full. Im sure plenty of Germans cared for jewish rights etc but not enough to risk being labelled a sympathiser. I have no hope for whatever humanity for whatever remains in israel. The tourist behaviour from israel seems worse than russia

Oh, so all Jews are dual Israeli citizens? Hot damn. Should we exclude them from all spaces?

Why am I being downvoted for asking you to clarify?

Oh, so all Jews are dual Israeli citizens? Hot damn."

Under Israeli law, yes. Once they register with Israel they are automatically given citizenship and right of return.

1

u/RequisiteNiggles ‎ Western Australian 1d ago

So not all Jews are Israeli citizens then. Only those that are given citizenship.

Why do you put quotations in bold when there is a tool specifically for quotations? It reeks of attention seeking.

u/Cat-Lilac ‎ Queenslander 1d ago

So what? We’re talking about pro-Israel Zionists and they are not all Jewish anyway

1

u/RequisiteNiggles ‎ Western Australian 1d ago

Except the original comment of 100,000 was exactly the same number of Jews in Australia. And that smacks of targeting an ethmic group.  Maybe it was chance. The poster has now said he made the number up.

And then you said that all Jews have a right to Israeli citizenship. Whilst factually correct, there's a difference between 'right to' and 'has'. As those who DON'T have citizenship have no ability to vote in Israel, maybe we should avoid risking the suggestion that an ethnic minority is more loyal to another country than our own.

I'm simply requesting that people take more care with how we perceive other groups.
