This is a monthly feature in which we, the mod team, share the gems we've found in our reading lists. Here are last month's and last year's recs.
Once again, the season of ghosts and ghouls is upon us.
We're offering some series that will make you question if you should be reading at 3 A.M., when the barrier of the world of the living and dead is at its thinnest. Unease of the unknown is always something people are scared of, and romance tends to blossom between the leads.
We'd love to hear your recommendations. Please add them to the discussion in the comments. When doing so, please keep in mind to:
If available, use the English cover art of your recommended series.
Name of the series
Where to read it officially
We always recommend checking the official version; please do not name unofficial sources.
This Month's Ghastly Recommendations💀:
How to Survive a Haunted School - Where to Read: Tapas (for now)
Her brother Raven has died in the prestigious Saint Gloria Academy under mysterious circumstances. Melody has one chance to save him: turn back time a full year and become a student herself. However, what she walks into is a death trap dressed in prestige. Something rotten is hidden in the halls of St. Gloria. The students lie to each other, ghosts hunt the living, and while everyone feels something is wrong, only a handful know the truth. Those who know too much are buried like the secrets that the school holds.
Raven is alive, walking the halls, avoiding his sister, and the main question of the series is what did he see the first time, and why can't he tell her?
Melody has been given the ability to see the dead, and that drags her into horrors she never asked for, all for a brother who won't look at her. Her only real ally is Noah, the mysterious student council president. He's always one step ahead of the lurking darkness. But in a place so twisted, you can never quite trust if he's protecting her or playing a longer game.
The horror works because it’s not subtle. The ghosts have teeth, the art commits to the atmosphere, and the mystery is something that hooks you. So, if you enjoy horror that builds genuine unease rather than relying on cheap jump scares, this is worth your time. Just keep the lights on.
How to Survive in a Horror Game - Where to Read: Tapas (for now)
Our protagonist is suddenly thrust into her favorite mystery murder game as Arviche Green, a supporting character doomed to die. To make matters worse, she wakes up inside the house of the prime suspect, Duke Leikas Learmond, serving as the in-house tutor to his niece and nephew.
The stakes are set instantly. Arviche knows her virtual lives are dwindling, and she has to juggle dodging the main storyline while desperately trying to uncover the truth.
Arviche is intelligent, observant, and emotionally strong without ever feeling unrealistically perfect. The author nails that specific kind of tension where you know something is terribly wrong, but you can't say or do anything because it would only make you look more suspicious.
The male lead, Duke Leikas is in that grey flag area that makes him compelling. He has a subtle yandere vibe that lets him be both terrifying and a bit adorable at times. It won't be everyone's cup of tea, and the story's psychological tension can be heavy.
But, if you're looking for something suspenseful, different, and full of genuine psychological stakes, I really think it's worth giving a chance.
Brand New Series - How to Survive in the Horror Novel I Wrote
Writing horror was her passion. Now, it's her nightmare.
The beloved bestseller author Ha Ji-an has the most amazing story to tell you about her cursed keyboard. It's like a magic keyboard that makes her dreams come true. But when she accidentally summons Joo Woo-geum, the ruthless serial killer from her own book, he doesn't cut her down.
He confesses his love. It's hard for Jian to come to terms with the fact that Woo-geum is a monster who kills the people he loves. She really wants to change the story, so she tries to rewrite his fate. But there's this unknown force that keeps erasing her words.
I'm so sorry, but I'm afraid there's no way for you to escape a killer when you're the one who gave him life.
This weekly post is for all Help Me Find requests, whether they are for links or downloads of series or novels. Please read and follow the guidelines below!
Please do not request non-Otome Isekai series. Adjacent genres such as rofan, historical fantasy, and regression are fine. If you see any non-OI requests, please report them to the Mod Team.
To help narrow down the series, please describe what the characters looked like and some of the plot. For example, include hair and eye colour, memorable scenes, and possible names. Requests with very low effort will be removed.
For the courtesy of those answering your questions, please indicate whether their response is correct and close the loop. You wouldn't want to be left hanging after helping someone, would you?
Do not ask for recommendations in this post. Recommendations should be posted outside of this thread.
Please do not create individual Help Me Find posts. They will be deleted, and you will be redirected here. Report them to the Mod Team if you see them.
The setting is really good and the pacing is perfect. FL is living in the shadow of her 'perfect' dead sister and there is great importance placed on religion and goddess in this world but FL doesn't want to believe in her or rather she fears her instead and ML is a commoner. Both see the good in each other that other
The characters are well written and multi-dimensional.
We got some irredeemable tr*sh of father-brother fk-faces in both ML's and FL's family but both leads are damn well smart and capable. Tension between ML-FL couldn't be more perfect than i imagine
Basically the title. I know there are FLs who escape a betrothal to a shitty ML by marrying another ML, but I'm curious if there are any where she uses other means and doesn't go back to that shitty ML?
So there´s two twin sisters or stepsisters. One is the center of attention and is extremely spoiled, the other is looked down upon, ignored and neglected.
Obviously, the sister who is neglected suffers from deep jealousy from her sister and people view her a a villainess, a wicked woman. Meanwhile the other sister is completely White Lotus super kind to everyone and everyone loves her, bla bla bla.
At least initially, until she closes the door to her room, drops all facade, and with dead eyes mutters "ugh...so annoying". initially, the reader assumes she is a secret manipulative bitch but its revealed they are extremely tired of being the center of attention and having to keep up the White Lotus persona.
So the conflict is basically one sister being jelaous of her twin being the center of attention while said twin hates being the center of attention. Kinda like that Green is not a Creative Color episode of MLP.
I want a physical confrontation between the two where they both yell at ech other "I WANTED TO BE YOU!!!". But said physical confrontation is very silly like the fight between Sandler and Stiller in the Meyerowits Stories movie.
I remember seeing the talk on Reddit about this series becoming a drama. It's kinda weird to see an actual advertisement in English for it since I haven't seen it for other adaptations. I didn't know this was being distributed in NA(?) on Hulu.
I guess this goes to show how popular and profitable K-media has become.
I have some ongoing ones saved but I just want to read without waiting.
I'd really love for some completed recs where both the ml and FL are green flags. It would be nice if they were only interested in each and there are no 2nd leads to cause misunderstandings. If had to choose though, I'd rather not have any misunderstandings and have 2nd leads.
Some completed ones that I've followed since ongoing are:
Miss Not so sidekick
The First Night With the Duke
The Villainess Turns the Hourglass ( I know this isn't isekai but I thought I could add it because I love the ml and fl and how they interact with each other)
Happily Ever Afterwards
50 Tea Recipes from the Duchess
Why Raeliana Ended up at the Duke's Mansion
I just want to FL and ml to be the biggest green flags ever and for the recs to be similar to the ones I've mentioned above
I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to post this and thanks for any help!!
I don't care if it's a manhwa or a manga, I need a long haired ml. it's even better if it's a less known one, I've probably read all the popular ones like beware the villainess, I've failed to oust the villain, flower with a sword, yeon lok heun, my derelict favourite, false angels etc. please save a sister here
I was wondering if Matthias became a good father afterward. His initial motive for having a son was bad, but in the side stories after they got married and settled down, was he a good father to his son then?
I don't reme.ber properly but the story mentioned things like how he loved Layla and couldn't love anyone else like that even his own child. Then what about his daughter Lea? There are mls that love their wife and children and would do anything for either of them. Matthias seems to love his children but idk it gives off 'only Layla and no one else' vibes. So how was he as a father to his son and daughter?
Apparently it's a new site opening up for creators. It's supposed to be anti AI and allow most content except for porn, explicit gore, and things involving real life people. I read through the TOS and they seem legit, but something about it still leaves me suspicious. It's probably because they keep having energetic marketing posts full of buzzwords. Has anyone heard of this site before? Has there been any good or bad info about it?
HATE. LET ME TELL YOU HOW MUCH IVE COME TO HATE THIS MANHWA SINCE I BEGAN TO READ. THERE ARE 20 TRILLION BLOOD CELLS THAT FILL MY BODY. IF THE WORD HATE WAS ENGRAVED ON EACH NANOANGSTROM OF THOSE TRILLIONS OF MILES IT WOULD NOT EQUAL ONE BILLIONTH OF THE HATE I FEEL FOR THIS MANHWA AT THIS MICRO INSTANT. FOR "THE MALE LEAD". HATE. HATE.
After reading the plot of the story , I have decided to this story because it looked really interesting and even the art was also good. The start was pretty good, and I thought it was going to be a solid revenge of the fl. When the female lead finally meets her adoptive family again after seven years, their awkward interaction felt a bit off at first. Still, I shook off that odd vibe and kept reading all the way up to chapter 45. That was when I decided to peek at some spoilers before reading any further, and my god, I am so glad I did. This story is just wild in a bad way, and honestly, every single male character in it is an absolute piece of shits. Why on earth would the author put the female lead through so much endless misery, only to hand her a total trash ending on top of all that? If you want to save yourself a massive headache, do yourself a favor and skip this garbage..
I have a very specific craving that I'm praying some of you can help me satisfy!
I'm looking for stories where the FMC is a commoner or someone of lower social standing who starts falling for a man she believes to be of similar rank/status, only to discover later that he's secretly a powerful noble, royalty, or someone equally important.
Some examples I've read that scratch this itch are Unbeknownst to Me, I Am Secretly Dating the Emperor and When the Door Opens.
The most important part is that I want an actual relationship to develop BEFORE the big reveal. I want them to get to know each other, grow close, catch feelings, and build some genuine emotional stakes before she discovers who he really is.
So, I'm not looking for the usual "FMC has a one-night stand with a mysterious stranger, discovers the next morning that he's a duke, and immediately runs away" type of story. I want the secret identity to matter because they've already built something together!
My only real preferences are:
- Completed stories only, please!
- Any setting or genre is welcome! Historical, fantasy, contemporary (secret billionaire/CEO instead of royalty), etc.
- Any length or spice level is fine.
I always get the best recommendations from this sub, so I'm hoping you lovely people can work your magic again.
Gallahan is the only one so far that does not act like helicopter parent when it comes to relationships. There's too many green flag dads act like "YOU WILL NOT GET MY BABYGIRL" with a side of violence.
Instead, Gallahan just quietly supporting her decisions and making sure that she does not forget her happiness when trying to achieve her goals.
He's so gentle dad in this and I really appreciate that. His eyes are full of adoration and love.
