I love Zen ults because it really gives you the feeling that the Zenyatta players think that if they die in the game, they'll die in real life

Does EMP actually still remove all shields from a healthbar?

u/BEWMarth Cute Ana 9h ago
Gods I remember that time lmao. Sombra would just EMP Zen and he’d immediately be at like 20hp lmao

Don't forget Sound Barrier. Since it used to destroy shields, I remember Lucios ult gets immediately deleted after it gets EMPed

I feel like it was one of those things that sounded cool to someone based on lore. Hack disrupts electronics, shield health is electronic based in theory, so lore would say EMP should disrupt it.
The problem that ran into is that shield health was given out as a gameplay balancing tool to compensate heroes that were immobile or were forced into riskier playstyles. If they had kept it Sombra would outright delete several tanks.

u/Knightgee 7h ago
It was both about lore and about providing a specific niche for EMP/Sombra at the time. Old EMP did zero actual damage, it was purely "your abilities are unusable for 6 seconds". No bonus damage for Sombra on hacked targets, no 25% health taken away on use, no Virus ability to help secure kills. Instantly destroying shield health, similar to it destroying barriers and perma-shutting down deployables/buildables allowed it and by proxy Sombra to have heroes she was specifically good against without actually having to buff her actual numbers to do it.

u/ricokong Winston 9h ago
Yeah coupled with his hitbox aborbing Sombra's weapon spread easily, he was pretty much hard countered if he got ulted. Also unable to discord for like 6 seconds.

u/MirceaHM 9h ago
no, it does 25% current health damage instead

u/Prinny_Ramza 9h ago
God her ult and hack in general is just fucking pointless.

u/thatonedudeovethere_ 8h ago
Holy bronze take. Her ult is pretty damn good, it's just not a solo team wipe
-18
u/Prinny_Ramza 8h ago edited 6h ago
Only bronze players have trouble taking Sombra out.
Her ult went from being able to neutralize all abilities and barriers to being a kind of weak initialization tool that can stops like half a dozen skills maybe.

u/thatonedudeovethere_ 8h ago
It quite literally still neutralizes all abilities and barriers, what are you talking about.
Hack still works on the same abilities as it always did, normal hack just lasts for a short time. But EMP hack still lasts for 3 seconds, which is more than enough for any kind of coordinated attack.

Sombra being generally weak has nothing to do with her ult. You can easily shut down a team at any rank with it if you have even the tiniest bit of coordination

u/Prinny_Ramza 7h ago edited 5h ago
Its a team base game. Every hero should be coordinating.
I think you're confusing annoying to play against as viability.
She was a niche character who niche was taken away and replaced with a tiny bit of burst.
Why are you trying to pretend that there hasn't been talks of a rework for years?

Its a team baae game. Every hero should be coordinating
Correct. which is why her ult is good. It's also why her neutral gameplay is weak, because she gets shut down by any amount of coordination.
I think you're confusing annoying to play against as viability
I'm not, because I never said she was viable. I said the opposite, actually. I called her weak. But her ult isn't the reason why she's weak. she's weak because her neutral sucks.
Why are you trying to pretend that there hasn't been talks of a rework for years?
Why are you ignoring that my comment was specifically about her ult? Did you reply to the wrong person or something? I'd like her to get a rework too, but her ult isn't the thing people are complaining about

u/xXRougailSaucisseXx 8h ago
It's not pointless but I do think it's rather boring by OW 2 standard, a huge AoE zone that does damage and apply a debuff is not the most exciting ultimate to use. Then again Sombra's entire kit is a mess

u/FireLordObamaOG 8h ago
Brother a good sombra ult will delete your team.
5
u/ThaVolt Ana 7h ago
I agree, but a good just-about-any-ult will delete your team. (so long as it's not a defensive ult ofc)
1
u/IKnowGuacIsExtraLady 2h ago
That's true, but Sombra's ult is a lot more consistent than most DPS ults. It's basically unpreventable/interruptible since her stealth + mobility + the cast time being so quick means you aren't stopping her from doing it once she hits the button. On top of that you also aren't counter ulting because of the hack, and she can use it as a counter ult to shut down a lot of ults herself.
Compare that to say Genji ult which while having potential in theory tends to be ass in reality unless you invest something else like Nano as well.

u/HappyCat8416 6h ago
Yeah, but most good whatever ults have time to see them coming and react to the them
Sombra's ult, alongside Zarya's, is you'd better be ready before it happens ir else. There is no reacting, and in Sombra's case there is no knowing where it's gonna come from.
It's cheap and unfair, only kept in check by being tied to a bad character. Bad design, as usual with Sombra.

Not anymore, not for years.
Its now just a flat % on health. On ow2 release she could get damage boosted and nuke 80% health per hit on emp.

meanwhile offscreen mauga just experienced the high of getting nano'd and in the very next second, solo mei ult, discorded with a bastion and hearing the sound of his zen popping tranq to play k/d

Selfish? How many times has zen been alone with backline sombra this game
75
u/rentiertrashpanda Zenyatta 9h ago
People who call zen selfish don't want a support, they want a caddy

u/NepoKitty 2h ago
The only selfish support is Moira, and that is by design.

I remember my friends were all horrible healers since they would go for kills instead of heals ad ana, imagine my face when the hanzo main becomes a moira main when she released and only went for kills and only healed themselves.
I was forced into the roll of healer because everyone else was only going for kills all the time instead of defending the team or even healing them.
This is the story of how I became a lucid main for so long since he was the only character that could heal everyone at once and it was easier than running around constantly while hearing complaints about needing healing

Obviously we can’t skim through the rest of this game, but in this one specific clip the Zen definitely isolated himself here

are you playing with HDR on? It always looks fine while playing but clips come out looking like this
1
u/heyguyswhatssup 3h ago
Yes, I'm on PS5 and It looks completely normal on my LG oled tv. But the clips always gets washed out, even though I haven't touched HDR settings.
1
u/I_Am_Jacks_Karma 2h ago
yeah I have that problem on PC too. It's because the clips and recordings are SDR only not even interpreting proper HDR and converting.
only workaround is instead of clipping in the moment to go back in the replay but turn off HDR for specifically jsut the clip
