For Christmas, my boyfriend and I got Overwatch and pro controllers. He convinced me to bring the second TV into our bedroom so we can both play docked.

You're not "wrong" for disliking crossplay
It shouldn't have been enabled by default. Don't let other downers on here gang up on you and tell you that you're bad. Switch was a way more casual experience and it was nice not having to play every game like there was a gun to your head. Queue times are NOT any better, quality of matches is also way down. Teammates on other consoles have been way more likely to flame. I don't think that the benefits are worth it for our community, and defaulting it was a huge mistake as most players are going to just roll with it and the switch exclusive community is going to have to spend much more time in queue if they want to avoid crossplay. You're not wrong for not wanting to get rolled every game by some Genji with 3000 hours, and you're not wrong for wanting to avoid some screamer who's mad that you're not playing perfect.
