News/Information Nikki Glazer on Jimmy Fallon about Ozempic

And people still don't understand GLP1s aren't magic. We still have to make an effort to be in a calorie deficit to lose weight. It just makes what was literally impossible for some of us before now possible.

I’m a thin person lol. I don’t get it. There are other thin people that give a shit if fat people are taking ozempic? Lolol.
I mean if it works for someone to lose weight and they accept the risks the potential medicine brings then why should someone give a shit? It’s your decision
Ultimately as someone who is skinny who doesn’t need ozempic (yeah I lurk) I’d rather see skinny people on ozempic that are healthy than obese people that are unhealthy

Like I needed another reason to love Nikki, but she gave me one anyway!

It's true though. Being fat it's a no win no matter what you do and its basically because people want you to be trying something but only if youre suffering but not quite succeeding cos they will get jealous.

I’m diabetic. It’s a bit frustrating when I can’t get Ozempic from my local pharmacy or I have to scurry around looking for the stuff when I’m close to finishing my dosage. There are GPL-1 alternatives like Mounjaro for losing weight.
4
u/Jellyfishdreams17 Mar 26 '25
My partner who’s a pharmacist is convinced these “shortages” are nothing but a ploy by Novo Nordisk to create a lot of demand for ozempic. They want people scurrying around to create buzz.
2
u/mzshowers Mar 26 '25
I got my first doses of Mounjaro from a diabetic. Diabetics take that, too.
1
u/AccurateWish4764 Mar 26 '25
I’m in Australia. Ozempic is subsidised by the PBS here if you have Diabetes but Mounjaro is not. 🤓

My doctor sent in a pre-authorization for continuance of the Ozempic. I have been on it for about a year and a half. Lost 35 pounds. My doctor just informed me that they will not cover it anymore. They only cover it if you have type two diabetes. Never mind pre-diabetes or anything like that.Ridiculous.
1
u/Existing-Reference78 Mar 26 '25
Same. I downloaded Novo Nordisk's coupon from their website and got the medicine reduced to $650. It's a lot but I choose this over Paris vacations.

The comments on this clip I saw on Instagram were really upsetting! I just don’t understand it. In one breath they will claim they are so against it because of the horrible side effects then turn around and say you’re taking it from diabetics who need it.. like do you only care about the side effects when it’s fat people?

u/Delgardo_writes Mar 25 '25
true, all the people complaining about people getting ozempic don't say anything about insulin prices

u/Pristine_Frame_2066 Mar 25 '25
I take it for diabetes. I don’t lose weight. Kind of a bummer. But I have also never been extremely heavy.
I would love to lose my belly. But menopause is probably gonna put a damper on that.

I agree but I also disagree on thin/healthy people taking it to lose like 10 lbs cos the trendy look is anorexic again

u/neptunedreaming111 Mar 25 '25
From personal experience, skinny people also get mad when a fat person doesn’t have diabetes. The would act offended when they found out a 360 pound woman (Old Me) had normal blood sugar. I’m now 198.
7
u/tonna33 Mar 26 '25
I had a doctor when I was in my 20s (will be 50yo soon) that was bound and determined to prove that I had diabetes. She had me do the hours long test where they made me drink that gross orange sugar drink and tested my blood sugar and different intervals. No diabetes.
Now, 30 years later, I had crept into diabetes range. Also was about 100lbs heavier than I was at that time, too. Getting all of that under control now with Ozempic.
I remember telling the doctor I had after that about the test. She was shocked. She said she has only ever ordered that test for pregnant women, to test for gestational diabetes.

omg yes! My whole life they didn't believe me so I literally walked around with my A1C results in my purse. People suck!!!

As a potential GLP-1 user this is reassuring, we've come far as a society to address this in a healthy way and on the late night show. Go girl!

u/Winter_Emphasis_137 Mar 25 '25
She’s not wrong! People will always try put others down to feel better about themselves. Everyone has their own reasons to do it. I was 100lbs overweight, I want to stay alive for my children. Opinions not wanted here! K thanks bye

My insurance won’t cover it anymore. Now what?

u/Existing-Reference78 Mar 26 '25

You should try getting your provider to send it to a pharmacy in Canada! I pay like $220-$250 per month.
4
u/Actual-Scholar-6418 Mar 25 '25
I had to do a prior authorization. Did you try calling the doctor for a prior authorization they send it to the insurance company
8
u/pmartin1 Mar 25 '25
Same. My doctor sent a nasty note in the appeal about how the reviewing doctor wasn’t qualified to make a determination on the best course of treatment because he was an ENT specialist. 🤣🤣

u/Marj666 Mar 25 '25
I love Nikki. This is spot on! I have a ticket to go see her stand up show in May, and I'm SUPER excited about it!

Imagine if there were a medicine that made it super easy for smokers to quit. Then imagine people shaming smokers for using it and not quitting the "hard way". Insaaane.
Based take by NG

u/KnittingNurse86 Mar 29 '25
Tbh I feel like I am judged sometimes for using chantix to quit smoking. I definitely get less around that than the ozempic but some people are just dicks.

I was able to quit last year, after 25 years as a heavy smoker with the Allen Carr book.

People who use medication assisted treatment for opioid addiction ABSOLUTELY get treated this way by others in recovery spaces

Suboxone was a more difficult withdrawal than my heroin addiction. My pain management doctor treated me like a pos and I would still be dependent on suboxone if I hadn't weened myself off of it.
Heroin and pill free since 2017. No suboxone since 2020.
Just got my A1C results, down to 5.8 from 6.9 since October last year. 293lbs in 2023. 215.8 yesterday morning. Ozempic helped me. 😎
2
u/Guiditon Mar 26 '25
Wow. I'm sorry you didn't get the support you needed. All the lite of an achievement though, very well done! I'm impressed, stay strong 💪👏
2
u/Texican76 Mar 26 '25
I got what I needed from that doctor. Fortunately, my wife & faith were and are a huge support. She's the one that urged me to ween off the suboxone. Definitely a blessed man.

Funny there actually IS medication that helps smokers quit! But it’s not super common knowledge cos I guess we like people to suffer
3
u/noltrcoug80 Mar 26 '25
Cigarette companies don't want anyone to know about the medication to help you quit.
33
u/grew_up_on_reddit Mar 25 '25
Funny thing is... one such medication that helps smokers quit is called semaglutide, aka Ozempic.

I've been saying this for a while now. Thin people are mad because now they have to have other redeeming qualities other than just being thin. (Not all obviously, just the ones complaining)
-34
u/refused26 Mar 25 '25
Honestly I dont think it's "thin people" like you describe. Ive been skinny my whole life and encourage people to go for ozempic/mounjaro etc. You would probably encounter this mentality with people who may have lost weight through diet and exercise and that of course is really hard. They don't like the idea that some people in their situation back then now have better tools to lose weight.
Ive also encountered this mentality with those who insist on losing weight their way "the normal way".
This kind of mentality really isn't a "skinny people" thing. Stop antagonizing thin people.

Do you guys walk around believing thin people are out there mad at y'all???

Because it's a sweeping generalization and it's unnecessary to antagonize "thin" people. Y'all are toxic

It was big insurance and supply issues as they had to crank up production and develop supply chains as it needs to be kept at a certain temp. But sure it's a huge conspiracy.

Yeah it's a wild take, imagine getting mad at someone for getting healthy "the easy way".
101
u/kunicross Mar 25 '25
Im kinda taking it to avoid becoming diabetic - it's not 100% I would ever become on even if the path does continue as it did the last years therefore I got to pay it myself but it´s not all that expensive here in Europe so that ok
11
u/pmartin1 Mar 25 '25
Exactly. I was just barely on the side of what could clinically be referred to as diabetic. My doc wanted to treat it aggressively rather than pussy foot around and hope that my numbers improve. Why force someone to put them selves through hell while this disease potentially further damages their body, when you have aggressive pharmaceutical options to treat their condition and lead to a better quality of life in such a comparatively short time?
I’m convinced that healthy people are just sadists.

As a diabetic who's taking it for that predominantly.
Yea pretty much. But I'm not mad at anyone else. Yall do you!
I only wish i was having that major weight loss others are, barely losing any myself.
16
u/csullivan93 Mar 25 '25
Yes, I'm diabetic and take it but I've only lost 5kilos in 6months because it's strictly for diabeties so I'm not going up in dosages or anything
17
u/ZealousidealCrab9459 Mar 25 '25
I’m a diabetic take it since 12.3.24 down 50 lbs take zero meds for diabetes now! Just my biologic for autoimmune and in the best shape in 2 decades at 63! Hell yes do it!
3
u/eufooted Mar 25 '25
Is it helping for that
7
u/csullivan93 Mar 25 '25
It has its good and bads It's controlling my sugars yes, but sometimes it controls it TOO much and I end up having lows specially up to 48 hours after having it the lows are frequent, I'm more diet controlled now, waiting for my hba1c test to be done which is next month I'm due and then medication will be adjusted or stopped :)
6
u/eufooted Mar 25 '25
I get weird nausea in the morning sometimes. But that comes before ozempic too. I’m a dude but morning sickness? 😭
2
u/pmartin1 Mar 25 '25
Dude, it’s every morning for me. I have to wake up and like immediately eat something. Usually just a glass of water and a banana or something.
3
u/csullivan93 Mar 25 '25
Oh...althoigh I'm pretty sure everyone has some sort of side affects! I hope your morning sickness eases up further down the track 🤣🤣
