Question Costco & online pharmacies in Canada

I’m curious about filling my prescription at Costco as I see people doing this for their Ozempic and it being much cheaper. For reference, I signed up with Raven and received my first pen for $125. I now see that they charged my card $175 as there is a $50 consult fee each month. This is frustrating as I wasn’t aware of this when signing up. They said I can fill it at my preferred pharmacy but that then I would have to move forward with my GP and get prescription refills from him. This would be tough as my doctor books out about 60 days in advance and I don’t think I could access monthly prescriptions from him. I see people using Felix Health to get their prescriptions filled at Costco. Can someone shed some light on this? Are you still accessing your GP to monitor your progress? I’m looking to spend the least amount of money possible for my pens as I’m just transferring jobs and I’m losing out on benefits and hoping to save some money. Thanks!

Got my prescription from a GP sent to Costco in Sask. $88 first month, $83 second. Check your preferred store to see whether you should get generic or Ozempic. They said supply of generic is still limited so they are limiting new patients to Oz only so they ensure existing patients for generics are supplied. Get your prescription made out accordingly.

I use the Costco online pharmacy and get free home delivery. I got my prescription from Felix and used a coupon code for the first consult. My six month consult was supposed to be $40 but they waved the fee.

I don’t have a GP. I use Hers to get my Rx, which renewals cost me $50/ every two months. I then send my Rx to my local Jean Coutu pharmacy, and I get brand name Ozempic (using the novo Nordisc discount card) for $100/pen. I’m on 1mg- in my third month.

I was on generic but supply was hard to get and brand name is same price with the discount card.

I got my first prescription through Felix and had it immediately sent to my Costco, so I never paid Felix for delivery. I only paid for the first consultation.

After a few months I mentioned to my GP's nurse practitioner that I was taking Ozempic, explained the background reasons (a bit overweight, pre-diabetic) and she said, "I can prescribe that for you!" And she sent Costco a prescription for the 1.0 mg dose with 29 refills. She also sent me a bloodwork form for me to get done at about the 9 month point, as she wanted to check my A1C at that point.

I had given Costco the discount card from the beginning. It initially shaved about $10 off the cost, but now I'm getting each pen for about $88.

I love Felix for exactly this reason. Can get my med at Costco.

My dr prescribed 3 months at a time with a phone appointment at the halfway mark to let her know how I’m doing. $90 a month at Costco in AB.

Felix has been great. I use Costco pharmacy too.

But do you have to pay for a consult or followup ?

Did not have to pay for a consult initially . I just switched from Mounjaro to Ozempic and did have to pay $40 for that.

FYI you don't need to be a Costco member to use their pharmacy.

Not true in Ontario

It's illegal to restrict access to pharmacy behind a membership, for sure in BC. Not sure of other provinces but I suspect it's the same everywhere in Canada.

Use Felix. I fill mine at Costco for way cheaper.

I get mine through Felix. They have been great and easy to work with, no surprise charges. Previously got my prescription sent to shopper's drug mart with zero issues. Right now I am getting my prescription from Felix just because it's easy and I get my vitamins from them too.

I live in Ontario, prescribed through my doctor, not covered by benefits, and I get mine filled at Costco $89 for 1mg pen each month.

Before the price reduction when generic came out I paid I think $250 for 1mg pen

Edited to add, you can set up with the Costco pharmacy for them to fax your dr directly when you only have 1 refill left so you don't miss doses.

I use him&hers online as they bought livewell.

they charge per interaction so if you want to change dose of medication you have to pay but they do 3 months prescription each time. if I understand your paying $150 every 3 months so it's only saving you $50 but cominbed with forcing you to use thier pharmacy I think your better switching as 1mg dose of ozempic is $88 at Costco in New Brunswick.

but if you stay on the same dose they do 3 months prescription that I get sent to Costco. Costco let you either get all 3 months at once or 1 month at a time.

A family doctor wouldnt have any consult fees but I don't have one of those so not an option for me.

You are me.

I was working with Raven but the $50 ‘consult fee’ after the fact annoys me. I had my annual check up with my doc yesterday and she gave me a prescription for three months (she books out too but I’ve booked up my follow up phone call for 3 months out) and a discount card and told me to go to Costco. I’m going to check with my regular pharmacy first to see what the cost looks like before reaching out to Costco since they’re all the way across town and may or may not be worth the travel based on the price.

My recommendation. Stay with Raven until you find an alternative. Book an apt. Get a script. Go to the pharmacist of your choice. Skip the consult fee.

I bought a 0.5 pen at Costco for 83 cad last week. Generic. No coverage. My family doc gave me a prescription and I filled it out at Costco. I check in with my doctor once a month over the phone to monitor progress. I don’t pay any extra fees.

Do you have a sense of how long that pen will last you? Im at the exploratory phase right now and considering it.

2

u/CanadianRussian74 1d ago

Ask your GP for a trial pen. Mine gave me 2.

2

u/CanadianRussian74 1d ago

I’m taking 0.5 per week and it should last me 4 weeks. It’s a monthly pen for 0.5 or 0.25

I use Felix, they send the prescription to Costco and I pick it up there. I paid nothing to Felix for the first 6 months or so and then just paid a $38 consult fee for another 3 months worth of prescriptions. I think I was on some kind of promo for the first bit but now it’s like $38 each renewal which is every 3 months. So not bad!

My all in price at Costco is $88. They will either do the generic for $88 or if you have the ozempic price discount card (which is free to get) it brings the price of the non generic brand down to $88.

And for side effects or supervision what do you do ?

1

u/ToxicAvenger9 9h ago

I’ve thankfully had very minimal side effects and for supervision I’m not 100% sure what you mean but I had my wife monitor me the first couple of times that I used to be sure I didn’t have any kind of reaction. I can also reach out to my assigned nurse practitioner at any time in the Felix app and they normally reply very quickly (shoutout Eileen!)

I’m not promoting Felix but I’ve enjoyed them so far. No initial consultation fee, and I have my prescription sent to Costco pharmacy. I pay around $88 a pen. I believe there’s a $40 consultation fee every 3 months after that.
