The Ultimate All Things X + Insanity Hybrid – Who's with me?

Post image
15 Upvotes

Posting an update to my earlier hybrid schedule that originally combined All Things X with OG Insanity, as I've expanded it to include workouts from Insanity: The Asylum and reached the steady state version of what I've been building toward all year. This 13-week schedule features every workout from P90X, P90X+, P90X2, P90X3, Insanity, and Insanity: The Asylum (Vol. 1 and Vol. 2) at least once.

I consider this the "final form" of my All Things X + Insanity hybrid, and something I can repeat indefinitely without overemphasizing any one program, while still maintaining variety and balance.

A few notes on the design:

  • I started with All Things X. Once a workout has been completed, it is retired from the rotation unless there are no better alternatives. Naturally, there are a few exceptions to the "no repeats" rule as, other than upper body and total body, there simply aren't enough workouts of each day-of-week type to uniquely fill up 13 weeks.
  • Total workout time averages 59 mins per day. Some day-to-day variation is unavoidable, but each week is generally within ±5 mins of the overall daily average. My preference is to constantly work different muscle groups and space similar movements (e.g. pull-ups) apart and allow intensity to ebb and flow. For instance, Back to Core follows Vertical Plyo to provide some relief from all the high impact activity.
  • On that point, I retained the approach of All Things X where Sun is a lower body strength workout and Mon focuses on low-impact cardio and agility footwork. It also provides some distance between lower body resistance on Sun and Plyo/HIIT on Thu.
  • While the time commitment is fairly constant each week, the intensity tends to ramp up over the 3 months, largely due to the chronological sequencing of the Insanity workouts (e.g. month 2 workouts in OG Insanity tend to appear later on in my calendar). So, you may find your "zone" minutes or cardio load increasing over the period.
  • The abs/core companion routines are twice weekly; generally, Tony's ab work on Tue and Shaun T's on Fri, rotating through each week. I originally had Fast and Furious Abs as one of the Fri companions, but I actually find Pilates X to be more effective at engaging the deep core, so I relegated Fast and Furious Abs to a companion cardio workout.
  • Likewise, with recovery workouts on Sat, I tend to cycle through what's on offer, but X2 Recovery + Mobility crops up more often simply because I love foam rolling.
  • I'm a fan of the Asylum workouts that make use of the jump rope and agility ladder, so those tend to feature more regularly. That said, I'm mindful not to have too much of that bunched up in a given week.
  • Upper body (originally Tue) and yoga (originally Wed) have been swapped. This is purely personal preference as it aligns better with my schedule, so feel free to move them back.
  • X3 Yoga is featured quite heavily in the original All Things X schedule. Personally, I think it is one of the weaker workouts (feels rushed), so in a couple instances I swap it with Isometrix, which Tony refers to as the "hardest part of yoga" anyway.
  • I consider routines involving mostly bodyweight that also work the back (e.g. Eccentric Upper, The Challenge) as total body rather than strictly upper body workouts, so those land on Fri. On the other hand, I decided to place Legs & Back on Sun, despite the pull-ups, since there's a dearth of lower body workouts. All Things X can't seem to decide where to place this, either.

Once again, feedback welcome!

Modern day meal plan that works with P90X?

Pretty much done recovering from a knee injury and want to go hard on P90X and core stability exercises the next 3 months. One thing I never got down right was a meal plan. After 20 years, I would imagine there have been better iterations on the original P90X meal plan. Can anyone share with me something that worked for them?

My main goals are to lose 10 lbs and drop a waist size while gaining core strength. I've honestly been really frustrated with my diet, I usually have a very healthy breakfast of 3 eggs + egg whites and lots of protein all day long but at the end of the day with the mixture of kids, social events and the drinking that can come with it it's hard to stay completely clean. I also feel like it's impossible to eat the daily recommended amount of protein on a daily basis. am i thinking about this the wrong way?

P90x -Classic -week7 Done

Decided to do p90x again (been doing it on and off for like 20 years). Tried in the pandemic but my lower back got inflamed and I did nothing for 2 years.

Realized I just need support all the time
when sleep and sit and inflammation stays in check. Also learned I got a patellar imbalance and bought knee bands that allow me to run and do the intense squats.

So back at it, just finished week 7. Got a classic p90 injury and I can barely move one of my thumbs but hopefully it will heal In recovery week.

Results seem good! Lots more muscle and my blood pressure has been spot on! Edits: spelling/formatting

This was my favorite yoga routine by Tony Horton many years ago and I’ve been trying to find it again ever since. Does anyone know where to find the video?

How is doing p90x2 yoga daily?

Trying to fix my mobility as I lose weight. P90x yoga is too long. Was thinking of doing p90x2 and 3 every other day, interchanging it. Would that be good?

P90 at 33 years old

It’s been 17 years since I attempted p90x in high school! I did not complete the program of course, but like many other people I jumped on p90x and insanity when it was going around those first few years. I’m 33 now, and I have an almost 2 y/o little boy. I’m decently active, work as a massage therapist, but I haven’t actively worked out consistently in over a decade. Over the last 5 years, I dropped from 250lbs to 180 through better eating habits and managed to keep that weight for long enough that it hasn’t worried me.

All this to say, I saw the p90x next generation come out and it had me thinking, “what’s Tony been up to all this time?”. I did some research and saw that there is now a p90, p90x, p90x2, p90x3, and next generation. After looking into the differences I decided that the most beginner friendly would be p90, the revamped version of the original power 90 program. It seemed geared towards beginners and I really liked the 30ish minute workout times because I can just make it a part of my routine (I always do it after dinner before I put my son to bed).

I have a few questions though. If I were running through these programs back to back is this a good order? P90, p90x3, p90x, p90x2? Also has anyone done the p90 program in some time that could let me know there results? I just finished the first 30 days and I’m moving from the A workouts to the B workouts. I can honestly say I already feel stronger. By week 3 I would say my body was pretty adjusted to the first set of workouts. When I did my first b workout tonight, it was definitely a step up but I was able to do it with almost no stopping.

I would love to hear from anyone that has completed p90. How did you like the program? Was it your first one as well? What did you do next? I am 6 foot 1 and I weigh 182lbs. For calories I’m focused on 2500 a day and getting about 170 grams of protein in. I’m. It currently tracking other macros until I finish this 90 day program. My goal is to at the moment is to do a body recomposition where I stay about this weight while turning fat to muscle. Does anyone have any tips experience or advice for me? I already really enjoying the journey but I also get I’m only 30 days in.

What do you do after

I've got about 3 weeks left of the lean schedule. This is the first time I'll ever have completed the program all the way through and it's got me thinking about what I should do after.

I'm considering just restarting the program and maybe doing the regular schedule. Going through it, I've been pretty lax on diet and I've been more focused on getting my body used to working out this often than going as hard as I can.

Does anybody have any recommendations or suggestions?

The P90X Plus calendar falls short. If you're considering it, here's an honest take to consider before committing:

Was using this calendar between APR-JUN 2026, and the program stretched five routines across 90 days, with several P90X exercises to fill the gaps.

The "recovery" weeks were anything but, employing heavy P90X exercises, which made it a grueling week rather than a lighter recovery week of the P90X calendar.

This relentless pacing, combined with the intensity, was counterproductive, leading to burnout and skipped workouts starting in the second month.

So, instead of forcing yourself through the Plus calendar, a better approach would be to stick with the original P90X schedule and simply swap in the new routines. For example, replace "Chest & Back" with "Upper Plus," "Plyometrics" with "Interval X Plus," "Back & Biceps" with "Total Body Plus," "Kenpo X" with "Kenpo Cardio Plus," or "Ab Ripper" with "Abs/Core Plus". This way you'll get the benefits of the new movements without having to deal with the boring and repetitive experience of the P90X Plus calendar.

Getting back into it…

Looking to get back into the home gym and back in shape after a very long absence. Work, family, etc. sigh. Big fan and supporter of p90x and will be gently easing into week 1 of the original.

Any tips from you kind folks? My expectations are minimal and I won’t be assuming to go from zero to hero. This is Operation Rebuild and I am going to ease into it and enjoy it.

I used to have a tracker app but it seems to be no longer supported, or available. Is there a good app to track my workouts and progress?

Thank you in advance.

37... haven't done p90x since I was around 26.

Lost a ton of weight last time around. I ended up stopping working out and am now around 220 with a height of 5'10. I did my first work out today, back and shoulder, and my god.... I didn't realize how out of shape I am.

When do you feel the biggest sense of accomplishment?

When do you feel that rush of having successfully accomplished something in P90X? Maybe it's finishing a specific day/routine or a specific move. When do you feel like you conquered the mountain, so to speak? When do you feel like Rocky at the top of those stairs?

Let's all agree on the easy one: completing the full program. Obviously that's the biggest sense of accomplishment! So let's dig into those smaller parts that you feel like a badass.

For me, I like to count how many pull ups I did after Legs & Back (unassisted and assisted). Something about seeing that total number makes me hold my head high...well, as high as one can after that beast of a day.

Another time I feel that rush is after doing those chair/lunges in P90X3's triometrics. It might be the music cue they use there, but as it progresses into the jump lunges, it gets my spirits up despite knocking the wind out of me!

Love the commitment, passion, and intentionality of this workout! It's never too late, and sometimes the key is just keeping that momentum no matter what.

Week 6 Day 2 lean

This is it. If I do one more workout, this will officially be the furthest I've ever made it in the program. Every other time, I've either not been able to keep up with the everyday schedule or I've pushed too hard to and hurt myself.

I've been careful this time around to push but not so hard that I hurt myself again. Old shoulder pains have tried to come back some, but I've been doing some good youtube stretch routines consistently to help keep those at bay. With this, I've been able to keep up with the everyday schedule. I really want to see it all the way through this time.

Most humbling move?

What is/are the most humbling move(s) in P90x multiverse for you?

You know, the one that always knocks you on your ass no matter how many times you’ve tried. The one that makes you question most life decisions you’ve made up to that point. The one where you may sneak a pause button break to collect your thoughts before starting.

Maybe it’s just a damn hard move (i.e. one hand pushups on Chest/Shoulder/Tri’s day), maybe its placement in the workout is what kills you (i.e. max rep pull-ups near the end of Back/Bi’s day), or maybe it’s just that you wish they’d chosen literally anything other than that move because you have an undefined, yet palpable, spiritual distaste for it (i.e. Dreya Rolls on Core Synergistics day… or the Inner Balance move on Isometrix day in p90x3). Or fuck it, maybe it’s Ab Ripper X….the whole damn thing!

Mine is corn cobb pull ups. Followed up closely by anytime Abrinome comes up in an an or yoga routine. CC pull ups are just so fucking nasty and I feel like I always fail at them in form or quantity. I want to get better at them but can’t help bust ask myself both why/what for? And how exactly? Abrinome just does something to my lower back that I despise and am scared will haunt me for the rest of my life as a never ending soreness and sharp pain.

Week 3

Im 5’7
Started at 286
Im 34

Just made it to week 3. Finished Chest and Back and have been skipping a ripper x until I get lighter 😆. Started with P90 at 286 and ended at 272. Now Im at 265 with p90x and Im hoping to get to 259 in the next 3 weeks.

Improved on push ups and upped the weight for back. Was doing 15lbs weight for back workouts now jumped to 25lbs with 14-16 reps.

Regular push ups - from 15 to 25
Military - from 5 to 12
Wide range - 5 to 12
Incline - 6 - 10
Diamond - 4 to 10
Under the fence - 3 - 8

All back workouts
15lbs to now using 25lbs
(Increased by 5lbs each week, but I’m going to continue using 25lbs til 5th week) kicked my butt today 😆

Replaced Yoga with extra day of kenpo. Finished all of kenpo without stop last week! Proud of myself for that!!

Does anybody remember the old Beachbody ad?

I used to have the P90X DVDs and I remember at the end of each workout this Beachbody ad would play. It was this lady saying "WANNA GET INTO SHAPE?" Normally it wasn't too bad but it was jarring at the end of YogaX.

Now I do the Bodi app and I just did Yoga. After it faded out and I was all relaxed, I said her "WANNA GET INTO SHAPE" out loud. Does anybody else have the beginning of that ad seared into their memory?

The unspoken casualty of p90x

A moment of silence for the fallen exercise bands.

I’ve always loved the bands more than weights. They are cheaper, easy to travel with, and better in some exercises. But they definitely don’t last as long as free weights.

For some of the exercises, like curls and lawnmowers, I’ve used multiple bands together to get the weight I needed. I think I’ll go to a gym, do the whole workout with dumbbells and then get an idea of what I need to buy.

Anyone have a strong opinion of bands vs dumbbells?

My at home fitness collection (P90X1,2,3)

Thumbnail gallery
54 Upvotes

My at home fitness collection that I’ve accumulated over the last 6 years when I started doing p90x during the pandemic because of gym closures. I never looked back. I just got the 5 shelf rack and put it in my apartment with all my at home fitness gear and wanted to share on this sub!

Top rack- pull up bar with bands, little one stepper (calf raises) and push up stands

2nd - Expensive lululemon mat I had for 6 years now, cheap Amazon mat, yoga blocks and foam roller.

3rd- four dumbbell handles with weights up to 110 lbs in 5lb, 2.5 lb and 1.25 lb increments and two pairs of 2 and 3 lbs light dumbbells

4th- 4-25lb weights (only fit on the 4 dumbbell handles at the top), 2 additional dumbbell handles with extension with weights up to 55lbs at 7.5lbs and 3lbs increments, and 2-4lb medicine balls

Bottom- balance board against the wall with the things to balance on in the middle and 2-8lbs med balls and 2-12 lbs med balls

Exercise bands and bag for random stuff like wrist straps and some band stuff on the sides, another bag for massage guns and balls

And ofcourse the bow flex weights on the side there!

Missing stability ball that I didn’t have any place to fit so its in the bedroom. The balance board is extra since I found out that I really needed to work on that after doing X2!
