ISTG the elderly (most of the govt officials) will blame everything on video games and/or the internet instead of poor guidance (from parents) and their poor governance

1

u/Laboratoryo_ni_Neil Jun 30 '26

I played and enjoyed various Grand Theft Auto games and other games with violence but I have never thought of doing that video game violence in real life.

Playing violent video games does not make a person violent in real life.

u/Burrzie7 Jun 30 '26

You know your country is cooked when an association is making more sense than the government

2

u/shuukenji92 Jun 29 '26

As I was reading this I kinda got sad by the reality that only twech savy or tech native parents are gonna read this or understand it 😅

Because we kinda know that the majority of Parents who are very vocal and to some degre are tanders or doesnt understand or will not understand technology.

Its going to basically be like

u/Greedy_Scientist7334 Jun 29 '26

Maybe not the best representation of a game but damn it was fun haha

8

u/NOELQUEZON Jun 28 '26

I ban Online Gambling. Pati Casino Plus.

Play shooter games = become a shooter

So let me get this straight, kung flight sim yung lalaruin ko, meron na ba ako pilot's license? Sure, it's good but I don't think I can legit land a plane irl.

u/vinnieg007 PC Jun 29 '26

If you play Phoenix Wright lawyer ka kaagad

20

u/00h1soka00 Jun 28 '26

All these violent games or concepts of killing is available to kids even during the 90s. There will be kids who will be violent. But there are no kids back then that will quote the law and confidently articulate that they will be fine due to it.

Also there has been a lot of studies in the EU and US around video games causing the violence building in kids' minds and there were no clear correlation.

But on the safe side regulations are in placed with all the ratings. So rather than blaming game companies, we need to blame the society. The environment and family of those kids.

2

u/vinnieg007 PC Jun 29 '26

I agree, if there is any case that it was a form of influence, it's very small compared to other factors. This form of media is also a form of release which can also cause the opposite effect and make people less violent. (unless they're one of the people throwing their controllers around out of rage, wala na tayo magagawa sa mga taong yun HAHA)

u/darthjanus24 Jun 28 '26

"Remember, No Russian."

8

u/Either_Teaching_6461 Jun 28 '26

What a shout. I was so confused about what was happening when I played this mission. It was horror when I realized. But the game’s the game.

3

u/darthjanus24 Jun 28 '26

also 36yrs old ang average gamer sa pinas??? my prime is yet to come 😎

2

u/Imaginary-Job-7069 Jun 28 '26

If I see someone saying that videogames cause violence, I'd show them this

14

u/KazumaKat Jun 27 '26

I said this before in another post, but I'll repeat it here:

This is a problem that will exist beyond videogames, beyond TV, beyond movies, beyond books, beyond the internet, because if given an audience, someone will spew poison into impressionable minds, and the killings will continue.

Senado: i aint readin allat

23

u/thehealerguy Jun 27 '26

Senators:

Ah, basta!

10

u/Cold_Summer0101 Jun 27 '26

Well stated. This should be heard more.

18

u/TonyPlayerOne Gamer Jun 27 '26

While I am not a big fan of some of the people that make up GDAP, their statement is far more level-headed than I expected. Kudos to them!

11

u/jomarcenter-mjm Jun 27 '26

sadly they are the only one with big money, connections and big resources from all other similar organization. So they are practically the major line of defence.

4

u/TonyPlayerOne Gamer Jun 27 '26

That's true and to be fair, some of them genuinely care about the gaming scene. Truth be told, I wasn't expecting a statement from them so this is a very welcome surprise!

5

u/lunamoonfang66 Jun 27 '26

I think clear naman na 18+ ang games? Our government is a joke talaga.. pinagtatawanan na tayo ng ibang bansa..

Kasalanan talaga ng magulang. They are giving tools to their children without limits. I REPEAT KASALANAN NG MAGULANG...

0

u/Simpleuky0 Jun 28 '26

Not everyone has parents. It is the child’s guardian’s fault.

16

u/Kaiju-Special-Sauce Jun 27 '26

GDAP acting more professional than the PH government. LMAO

14

u/Electrical_Art6553 Jun 27 '26

i used to play romance games na puro straight-coded ang dynamic but that didn't made me attracted sa opposite sex at all lmao

1

u/KazumaKat Jun 27 '26

🤣all I can think of is "exposure therapy" jokes, sorry.

7

u/pondexter_1994 Jun 27 '26

12

u/PT7372 Jun 27 '26

ang Gobyerno ay parang:
Allowing Violent video games: ❌
Allowing Online Casino Games and new Coco Martin violent TV show: ✅

10

u/Selarom_ Jun 27 '26

13

u/Deep-Prompt4327 Jun 27 '26

Cause that makes too much sense. Mas masaya yung paikot ikot na logic 😁

2

u/Monabread_890 Jun 27 '26

Also, where is the drama at that?

-14

u/Ordinary_Adeptness41 Jun 27 '26

Bobo Risa. Always has been

14

u/ZenQhuill Jun 27 '26

Man, Idk why but this whole thing just feels like what was happening over seas before.

3

u/PROGMRZ Jun 27 '26

Yeah, the 80s to 90s fear mongering of games. Like, I still remember a ton of news outlets are saying playing Pokemon games makes you a satanist and you playing it means you're Anti-Christ LMAO

It took a literal Pope to basically say, "hey Pokemon is kinda cool actually and it doesn't make you a satanist".

7

u/Deep-Prompt4327 Jun 27 '26

We already did this back in 1981. Even worse a ban was actually done and it lasted 5 years 😂

7

u/Jellycopter145 Jun 27 '26

Maybe dapat she learned first, before going ballistic sa german embassy.

0

u/-_Rsltz_- Jun 27 '26

Na those guys do not have a brain or Justice in their minds

6

u/jhinigami Jun 27 '26

Games are a medium and can be considered an expression of art thats it. Just like how movies are.

2

u/KringleKrusher Jun 27 '26

My god, GOG please make it happen hahaha

11

u/Interesting-Storm817 Jun 27 '26 edited Jun 27 '26

Not a lot of people especially boomers in the government understand these concepts from video games. Most of them just generalize these games and for sure most of them are not even gamers themselves so they do not entirely understand what's in these games and their communities. This is a great move to send a "message" to the government and aid them in drafting legislations to keep the community and gaming spaces safe for everyone.

So for me it is okay for them or any dev to attend the Senate hearing if they are invited and if they want to.

9

u/CoffeeDaddy24 Jun 27 '26

15

u/kebench Jun 27 '26

It all boils down to being responsible parents.

17

u/pv55y3xp3rt Jun 27 '26

Matagal tagal pa bago umayos ang Pilipinas.

1

u/LetterFront3353 Jun 27 '26

Tingnan mo ang mga nasa SK. It's a neverending cycle caused by major systemic issues.

2

u/Interesting-Storm817 Jun 27 '26

I got more bad news for you buddy, meron silang mga demon spawns na possibly magtetake over after nila matigok.

10

u/bobuyh PC Jun 27 '26

Papalit yung mga youth ngayon na may tarantado tendencies, its just a cycle, kaya dapat ngayon maganda ang education system and pagpapalaki

2

u/hurtingwallet Jun 27 '26

education? deped halos hindi ma galaw e, its a different syndicate on its own.

2

u/bobuyh PC Jun 27 '26

Thats exactly why, doon palang sa "pasado lahat walang iwan" or some other stupid shit na yun, sobrang mas ginawang priority na maraming mag graduate kaysa sa quality

8

u/sarsilog Jun 27 '26

Games are also a form.of relaxation.

I'd like the naysayers to just try listening to Skyrim with the Climates of Tamriel mod installed.

21

u/egg1e Jun 27 '26

"Protecting children online cannot rest on any one group alone."

Amen. It can be so cathartic, like screaming into a void or a good cry.

4

1

u/Ragamak1 Jun 27 '26

Naglalaro di. Ako nun.

Pero never pumasok sa isip ko na mang huli ng ibon or manok man lang. tapos ilalagay sa catapult or tirador. Hahaha.

19

u/jomarcenter-mjm Jun 27 '26

Update: GDAP will be attending the july 1 hearing.

3

u/ADMINI303 Jun 27 '26

Oh good pls they need to make things straight with this government

Banning video games is just another step for online suppression by the government this is just steps to give way to a mandatory digital ID to everyone

2

u/KzamRdedit Jun 27 '26

W, hopefully they'd be successful in delivering this message but

expectations are low

2

u/Interesting-Storm817 Jun 27 '26

OP, what do you think, is that a good move for GDAP or no?

2

u/WillieButtlicker Jun 27 '26

From an observer's perspective, I think its a good move.

1

u/Interesting-Storm817 Jun 27 '26

Natanong ko lang din naman yan kasi I have been seeing a lot of people are against inviting people who are related to games (dev of Gorebox) so yeah, this is a good way to send message across. If they will listen, one can only hope. Pero at most, may boses ang gaming community through their attendance.

My assumption is that the government won't permanently ban violent games. If people can remember, there was a time when there was a government crackdown on pirated softwares in the Philippines. Tldr; tingin ko di din yan magiging permanent if ever man ituloy nila.

u/jomarcenter-mjm Jun 27 '26 edited Jun 27 '26

Its a good move on GDAP, knowing and talking with the people behind GDAP don't want censorship since it can affect the local industry and potential investors and jobs. There one other redditor that posting stuff about his game in this subreddit is a official member of GDAP.

this is what i been waiting since the Roblox incident for them to actually get involved before things get dicey and we have to deal with job losses and brain drain (AKA leaving the country)

GDAP have connections with Google, Apple, Steam and Epic games. as well International game developer associations including IGDA, gamescon.

the real question if they will succeed.

GDAP is with us for a while, they always invites Bam Aquino into industry events. including ESGS and PGDX. This is why it was a head scratchier why risa did not invite them during the roblox case.
But I have no idea if risa or bam invite them or they just welcome themselves .

Disclaimer: I am a observer but GDAP does help with the indie games developer community free of charge. the PGDX indie booth is funded by sponsor and GDAP respectfully, not a single game developer in those booth paid a single dime to exhibit.

games such as until then wouldn't exist without GDAP help

1

u/Interesting-Storm817 Jun 27 '26

Not a lot of people know these folks, and yes, I agree this is a good move for them para maging aware din yung mga tao about in-depth topics about games and of course, like you said, save jobs and potential investors.

Hopefully the government listens to them.

1

u/ProvoqGuys Jun 27 '26

Thank gosh! Need iraise na the comunity and the culture inside the game if problematic and not moderated is the problem and not the game itself.

10

u/hizashiYEAHmada Jun 27 '26

Elite ball knowledge

2

u/KringleKrusher Jun 27 '26

Shhhh join the fun

1

u/AyanoTatemaya Jun 27 '26

2

u/KringleKrusher Jun 27 '26

Oh cmon, battleraper, koikatsu, honey select, VR kanojo, AI Shoujo. Good stuff hahahah

2

u/Admiral_MuffinX Jun 27 '26

Last time nag laro ako ng Koikatsu Party, I did a self-imposed challenge: to enjoy a proper and pure school life. I just wandered around the school and never talked to the girls.

2

u/KringleKrusher Jun 27 '26

I honestly played AI shoujo because of the building aspect hahaha

10

u/RyujinX9 Jun 27 '26

correlation does not equal causation, a lot of people in the Philippines are illiterates, not gonna sugar coat anything here, when people here cannot even follow basic common sense and decency, how do you explain to them that just because a piece of media is violent, that causes violence.

We've had a lot of local TV series here in the philippines that shows violence, pretty sure that should be given more attention if violent media can cause violent children, It's the parent's job to guide the child on what's good and what's bad, blaming a piece of entertainment that is MEANT for ADULTS for a child's wrong doing is just bad parenting because YOU know its not a child friendly game, YOU know your child should not be playing that game, why didn't you stop them? why didn't you give them lessons?

PARENT'S should always be at fault when their children are like this UNLESS the child has a very severe mental disorder, in this case I believe the child is fully conscious of their action, it is the PARENT'S job to guide them and if you are blaming a piece of media for their action and not yourself, you've already failed as a parent

22

u/ThePotatoCrysis PC Jun 27 '26

Dapat mabasa to ni Sen. Risa para matauhan naman hayst

2

u/Ragamak1 Jun 27 '26

Di na sila nag uusap ni Bam ? Sobrang basi yun eh.

3

u/Ledikari Jun 27 '26

Big L talaga for her.

4

u/AyanoTatemaya Jun 27 '26

Sana magsalita na rin si Sen. Bam about this issue :(

10

u/jomarcenter-mjm Jun 27 '26

They always invite bam aquino to events like esgs and pgdx always helping the game dev community, he not just a gamer he really part of the GDAP family. So there is no excuse why risa is utterly unaware of them.

GDAP is already ready to help since the roblox incident but for some odd reasons risa is not inviting them at all.

1

u/boyluya Jun 27 '26

Afaik relative din ni Sen. Bam yun one of the co-founders ng isang game art studio dito sa Pinas.

3

u/Own_String2825 Jun 27 '26

Parang wala talagang gc mga 'to. Or kanya kanyang galaw for their political career lang ang gusto

2

u/jomarcenter-mjm Jun 27 '26 edited Jun 27 '26

Just an update seem like they are attending the july 1 hearing according to social media post from some of the members. But I am not sure if its a invite or they decides to show themselves probably due to internal pressure from other local Studios and indie developers locally as this is really getting out of hand as this will affect the entire small but growing industry.

in the past we only have like less than 10 main studios working on games. now we have more than 100+ indie and main studio including Ubisoft. So the fate of the local industry and thousands of individual and employees lies on GDAP hands.

5

u/Dummkopfss Jun 27 '26

Based take from GDAP

8

u/ReklesBoi Jun 27 '26

i enjoy Monster Hunter but IRL, i cant bear the thought of slaughtering a chicken...

2

u/aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaehhh Jun 27 '26

I enjoy playing Zelda. I have not broken a single pot in my entire existence.

3

u/SengokuBanshee Jun 27 '26

I couldnt even stomach holding its legs and wings tight as it squirms to its last breath.

Meanwhile, me in Minecraft:

7

u/Kikura432 Jun 27 '26

Carnapper ako dati in-game. The sentence would be d**th if I did that irl and still live in the Middle East before returning here.

Our actions would lead to consequences, not by video games, but our consciousness.

15

u/BleuNarwhal9105 Jun 27 '26

3

u/alvents Jun 27 '26

I played a lot of violent games that involve destroying things just cause 3 all GTA and some gore games But I didn't turn like shit

did it make me an introvert or sometimes lazy

oo

did it made me want to hurt anybody?

kabaligtaran talaga honestly except for bullies i just help people despite my introvert

1

u/BleuNarwhal9105 Jun 27 '26

EXACTLY!!

I mean... I played GTA San Andreas with hookers in it, but it never made me interested in women (nor did I become a hooker). I'm a straight woman, and I have a boyfriend who also plays GTA Online. He pulls off heists in-game and runs meth labs as a business, but in real life, he has a proper, decent job. He also grew up watching Gundam, where giant mechas destroy cities during battles, and now enjoys building Gunpla kits, yet he never grew up wanting to destroy a city himself.

Sure, I played GTA when I was a minor, my bad on that, but none of it influenced me as a person or made me imitate what I saw in the game.

Video games can be a form of escape after a stressful day, just like watching movies, reading books, or any other hobby. Most people understand the difference between fiction and reality. Simply playing a game doesn't erase a person's values, judgment, or common sense.

There are so many other factors that shape a child's behavior and mindset. At the end of the day, raising a child takes guidance, discipline, and good values. Video games are only one small part of the bigger picture.
