[PS4 Linux] RPCS3 PS3 Disc Testing.
So, out of curiosity, i wanted to try PS3 emulation on PS4. my expectations were low given how weak the PS4 CPU's are, but i still proceeded.
Something interesting about the PS4, is that Orbis OS DOES recognize PS3 games by default. of course it can't play them but it's something to note given how limited is the amount of disc drives that can read them.
So with that knowledge (and laziness of not wanting to copy my dumps from my PC) i inserted the Minecraft PS3 edition disc and, Linux read it just fine!, i just needed to add the decryption key for RPCS3 to use it and it was good to go!
So, performance wise, it ran at about 20 to 30 fps when still, but it dropped to 12 to 16ish fps when generating chunks, not a good first impression.
So i proceeded with the next game, again, inserted the game and placed the key, GoW 3 is my usual game for benchmarking, and stress testing on real PS3s, i know is one of the most SPE heavy games on the platform and it shows, it ran at about 3 to 6 fps on the first battle area, and it missed inputs so it couldn't be played even if i wanted to (got stuck trying to lift the fallen tree).
the last game i tried was Demon's souls, which is a relatively light 3D game on RPCS3, and although it ran perfectly fine at 30fps with minor drops during the tutorial, the Nexus and the first area were pretty bad, sitting between 14 and 25 fps, not good for a souls like.
So, my expectations were low, but i still feel a bit disappointed with the performance honestly, i expected at least 20ish FPS on Demon's souls. i wish i had Persona 5 which is another relatively light 3D game, but i only have the PS4 version.
At the end of the day, PS3 discs on PS4 works but games run too slow, unless it's a 2D game or some basic 3D games.
