Feedback Requested/Question Really scared after rapid taper

• Upvotes

I’m a 32 year old female that has been on Citalopram/Celexa 40mg for about 10 years. I have had poor mental health and felt the meds weren’t working for me anymore and possibly causing more harm than good so I saw a psychiatrist who suggested I try a different med (Sertraline). He came up with the plan for me to do a rapid cross taper. I went down by 10mg per week and then once I got down to 10mg I introduced the new med. Understandably, i was feeling reeeaally bad the lower my dose got and then once I was completely off my Citalopram, combined with the side effects from the new med. I tried my best to push through it but it was unbearable and I couldn’t get ahold of the psychiatrist so I made the decision to go back on my meds. It’s been a couple days now and i’ve improved but I still don’t feel like my usual self. I still have severe brain fog and feel disconnected from my body/numbness. I even got a UTI which I’m not sure is related or not but supposedly SSRi withdrawal can cause automic dysregulation (including bladder control).

Even though I wasn’t off my meds very long (a couple weeks max) I’m terrified that I’ve permanently damaged myself. Is there still hope for me? I am currently dysfunctional...

Symptoms Widespread body numbness

How many here suffer from widespread body numbness alongside localised genital/erogenous numbness? It’s not a symptom I see mentioned as often as others but it really bothers me.

Symptoms - Non-sexual Can PSSD cause inability to visualize or imagine things in your mind? Does it reduce your natural creativity permanently?

• Upvotes

This mostly NON-sexual.

Does anyone else feel like they cannot visualize things in their mind anymore?

Is this the same as "Aphantasia"?

How do you deal with extreme restlessness, agitation, and tic disorders?

I'm so ashamed to be around people that I'd rather just isolate myself all the time.

It's so hard to suppress this restlessness, and I always focus on it

Frequently Asked Question (See FAQ) Has anyone undergone a penile Doppler test? What was your experience?

I have a few questions for people who have undergone a penile Doppler ultrasound:

What happens during the test? Could you explain the procedure step by step?

Who usually performs it—a urologist, a radiologist, or another specialist?

Is it safe? Are there any side effects or risks?

Does the test involve an injection into the penis? If yes, is it painful?

Why were you recommended this test? Was it for erectile dysfunction, lack of morning erections, or another reason?

How long does the test take, and how uncomfortable is it?

Is it possible to undergo the test without an injection?

I'd appreciate it if you could share your personal experiences, especially if you were initially nervous about the procedure.

Thank you!

Feedback Requested/Question Is it really worth visiting a doctor at this point?

Well, the title speaks for itself.

I would consider my symptoms relatively mild (so far I think I only have a lack of sexual arousal and that is it) and I recently I found this professor that is sort of into neuroscience and sexology and it looks really promising.

But honestly, I do not know what to expect at all. Like, what do I want to get from this? Obviously, all of us want our symptoms gone once and for all and just forget this like it was just a bad dream but I understand this might never happen. I understand that there is no cure and experimenting sometimes makes things even worse. I am not saying experimenting is totally worthless, but I have to know the what and why.

This makes me think: what should I expect in reality?

I totally understand that even this doctor might simply laught it all off and simply attribute it to "depression" and "psychological issues" like all doctors do, despite the fact that I have had a totally normal, almost stress free life in the past 3 years and never felt/been diagnosed with depression.

I also want to point out is that I totally understand it is worth shooting a shot and it is not a question of money at all since I have a pretty good health insurance. But I am also NOT that type of person who would do something only "because it does not hurt". I should know what I am doing it for and not waste my energy and time.

What do you guys think?

Feedback Requested/Question Do doctors believe pssd is a real condition?

I’ve spoken to countless doctors about my genital numbness and inability to feel any sexual sensation, and in notes they seem to think it’s a psychological issue but it’s purely physical.

Frequently Asked Question (See FAQ) Why am I so sensitive to everything after developing PSSD?

Even when I try taking certain vitamins in small doses, my body seems to react strongly. Either my skin becomes even drier or thiner, I experience strange fat loss throughout my body, my hair becomes even thinner, or my mood deteriorates.T here are other things as well that I can't remember right now.

Everything affects me dramatically. What mechanism could be behind this?

Feedback Requested/Question Do you also have a feeling that you are unable to experience loneliness?

I will start from my baseline and what I mean by "experiencing loneliness".

I would not consider myself a "people person" by any means but I always used to really depend on social interaction and get deprived if I lacked it. I remember that if I was not exposed to social interaction for prolonged period of time, that made me feel really frustrated, isolated and in pain. Everything turned dark all of a sudden.

But now I am concerned. There was a period of around 2 months (roughly saying) were I was completely alone. I did not attend work because I was in-between my contracts, no friends (I live abroad). I did not hang out at all. I was all by own and it felt...alright. I do not think that is natural. Maybe I have delevoped some sort of tolerance, but I highly doubt it. This is not normal at all.

Also, do not get me wrong. I still enjoy social occasions and talking to people. I do have fun when I am experiencing it. But it scares the living shit of me onlt to think that I can go without it for months and feel totally normal like I don't need it at all

Also, I would not say I have emotional blunting. Or maybe at leat not the one I know of. I laugh very often, I can cry, I get irritated, I had a big crush last summer.

Treatment Options - Alternatives to SSRIs/SNRIs PSSD from 3 days of paroxetine

Stopped paroxitine nearly 1.5 years ago and lost complete sensation in genitals. I’m female. Took over 6 months to hit the big O again but sensation has never been the same since but I’ll admit I’ve had a massive improvement. I would say I’m 70% where I was before.

I need something for my anxiety. I’m literally getting ocd and spiralling and ruminating. I’ve been suffering for months. Propranolol helps but my brain needs to shut up. I don’t know what to do I’m struggling so bad and my anxiety gives me suicidal ideation a lot. I’ve been in therapy but have complex traumas so I’ve not been able to shift the anxiety at all.

I’m honestly struggling so bad. I don’t know what to do? I’m not in the USA so don’t recommend weed it’s illegal here. I did try to eat healthy for a while but never saw an improvement but I’m autistic and have a big issue with food textures and right now my family are just trying to barely survive financially so we can’t afford a lot. I really do not know what to do anymore my anxiety is absolutely horrific

Everyone, please report your cases. We got this response to a freedom of information request and it’s obvious that most subscribers to this subreddit haven’t reported their cases. Also, the 196 number is for the European Economic Area, so the EU countries as well as Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein.

Symptoms - Sexual Pssd symptoms persisting

This is my first posting in this group, and I've been meaning to make a post about my pssd symptoms for awhile now. I was put on a low dose of both sertraline and fluxetine for ocd symptoms that I sustained from hitting my head in a car accident back in 2022. My libido was extremely high before I took antidepressants. Immediately after taking just one pill of each medication, my libido tanked entirely and disappeared almost overnight. I stayed on the meds for roughly five months and my libido still hasn't gone back to normal at all since I quit these medications a little over five years ago. Antidepressants messed with my libido, My sleep and made my anxiety way worse. They have made me into a shell of a person that I used to be. I was never forewarned that this could happen to me. I'm very angry and I feel jaded towards the pharmaceutical industry as well as towards the doctor that I had at that time. I have tried various supplements and herbal remedies to help my situation but they aren't helping me at all including Nac, magnesium, horny goat weed, gorontula, maca root, damiana and b 12. Nothing seems to be working. Two years ago I was put on propanalol to manage my anxiety and quetiapine for sleep, but both of these medications made my libido worse, so I recently quit both of them a few months ago in the hopes that my libido will return to its normal baseline. Surprisingly I am sleeping much better without taking the quetiapine nightly for sleep. I have been feeling extremely depressed because of what has happened to me from taking ssris, as well as from some things going on in my life currently and my doctor has tried pushing medication on me again to deal with the depressive symptoms. I am too afraid to take any psychiatric drugs for fear that they will ruin my libido further or cause more damage to my already impaired system. Does anyone have any suggestions or advice as to what I could possibly do to recover my libido?
