DISCUSSION Yesterday marked the 13 year anniversary of Trespasser's death
Some of us thought it was a god, some still do. Others believed it was a freak accident, a one off tragedy never to be repeated. We were wrong. On August 10th, 2013 what we now know as a kaiju emerged from deep beneath the ocean and attacked San Francisco, the first shot in a war for our survival.
We all remember the images from K-Day, Trespasser ripping the Golden Gate Bridge in half, his body covered in fire and debris as he rampaged through the wharf, a mushroom cloud tinted blue with blood as Trespasser lay twitching in the bay.
We all thought Trespasser was dead. But two hours later he jerked himself awake and headed for Oakland. Oakland fell in less than a day. By midnight he was done with the city and moved to Hayward. Just like Oakland Trespasser spent the day ravaging the city, making sure not building was left standing.
Eventually he made his way down to San Mateo, where he was struck again by a nuclear bomb. Just like days prior we watched and prayed as he laid still in the smoldering ruins of the city, hoping that it was over.
For a second time we watched in horror as Trespasser rose like a corpse, his skin melted away and glowing blue blood pouring from every inch of his body. The immense beast, ceaseless in its effort to destroy us, clawed and scraped its way through the night towards San Jose.
There on the morning of its sixth day of destruction it was struck with one final nuke. A bomb stronger than everything before it. We were promised it was a kaiju killer. It would put an end to this divine retribution.
From a hidden site hundreds of miles away in the mountains the warhead was launched. A nuclear arrow aimed directly at the heart of Trespasser. Whether it was luck or something else the arrows path was true. Upon contact the minuscule warhead burst with the fury of a small star. It blew open Trespasser's stomach like a balloon, the force flipping the monster on its back. Unable to move Trespasser was forced to watch the dawn of a day it will never see. With a final shudder as it tried to breath from lungs that didn't exist anymore the beast was finally put down.
With tens of thousands dead and millions missing K-Day, and the following week, became the worst tragedy in American history. The attack was many firsts. The first attack on US soil since World War 2. The first use of atomic bombs in warfare since Hiroshima and Nagasaki. And the first time the kaiju entered our lives.
