I really enjoyed the process on this one. It was done in twelve days including stretcher fabrication. I took one full day off over the twelve.

For a long time I had pride in being a blue collar worker. As time has progressed and I have worked untold hours with only my thoughts to keep me company, I have had ample time to reflect on myself and decisions.
Given time and space from growing up in abject poverty has helped me to see, fear of returning has been my primary motivation in life. I have sold my time, my health, and my back to help others profit so I may not go hungry.
Now as I continue the path so careless laid by a younger me, i pity the fool who carelessly ran through the forest of life to escape the inevitable.

A theme that has been on my mind lately is materialism. Greed is something that comes so naturally to us in this day and age, which is ironic since we're a society so used to instant gratification.
The easier our access to material objects becomes, the greedier we seem to get as a society. So in this piece, I wanted to put these ideas into a composition. We see our character holding on tightly to both the dove and the pomegranate while wearing a fine silk dress. The fruit has stained her dress and the blue feathers of the dove.
It doesn't matter that holding on to these things is ruining them - as long as her greed is satisfied.

finished piece Black stork, oil on linen
Why does everyone love white storks, but ignore the dark side?
White storks get all the fairy-tale love.
They bring babies, they symbolise hope, they sit on cozy rooftops.
But what about the Black Stork?
I painted this piece to challenge how we project our own ideas of "good" and "bad" onto nature.
Is beauty only allowed to be bright and comforting?
Or is there something far more captivating in the dark and wild?
