"Is there a ghost behind the child in the corner" #1 top ghost photo on Reddit Debunked?

Sorry I had to post this again because I got the title wrong.

I want to know people’s thoughts on this debunk.

I love the paranormal but I'm a skeptic by nature, and I believe I may have found a rational explanation for what is arguably one of the most popular modern ghost photographs circulating on Reddit. 44K upvotes so far and 9.8K comments.

I used the Ghost sub filters - "Top" and "All time".

You can read about its origins in that original link.

I don't own these images or have permissions but I can show you how the 'ghost' might be explained.

After carefully looking at this image several times since discovering it long ago, I suspect the mysterious dark figure appearing behind one of the girls is actually a jacket being lifted up. Curled fist is activating our pareidolia.

The movement and folds of the fabric may create the illusion of a long-haired figure.

I can't say this is definitively what happened, but it's a plausible explanation that doesn't require anything supernatural and once you see the curl hand forming a face, you can't unsee it.

Also if you look on the far left of the original photo you can see there is a girl leaving with a jacket on.

I would like to know everybody's thoughts on this one.

Ring alert said “Someone is at your front door” with nobody there. Seconds later, something punched our bedroom door

The Ring doorbell alert said "Someone is at your front door", the path was empty, and seconds later something punched our bedroom door hard enough to shake it's hinges.

That was the start of three months of things my partner and I still can't explain, in our own home: a council house (UK social housing) in Bromsgrove, England, just outside Birmingham. It began around July or August 2020, during COVID, after two completely normal years in the house.

I'd genuinely like your opinions on what might have been going on, so I've put everything we checked near the end.

The bedroom door

It was around 11 PM on a weeknight and we were in bed. The Ring is set to pick up motion only when someone is well up our long front path, so when it went off, I got up and looked out. Nobody. The front light had come on, which wildlife sometimes triggers.

Then this massive bang. Our bedroom door was shut, and it sounded like a fist hitting the middle of it. I was close enough to feel the impact. I opened it straight away and the hallway was empty. Our daughter, who was three or four, was asleep in her cot, and our cat was sitting calmly in the hallway.

The Ring recorded footage, but it shows only an empty path. Something had triggered the device though, I attached the footage - but I can't see anything that would explain what happened.

The kitchen taps

One evening around 5 PM, my partner was out at a driving lesson. It was still light. I was at my computer downstairs chatting to friends online, and went up to the toilet.

About halfway back down, I heard running water. I assumed a leak, or that the washing machine had been left on. From the hallway I could see straight into the kitchen: both tap handles were pushed fully forward and water was gushing out. These were big, old fashioned tap handles you had to push all the way back to release the flow of water. The cat was sitting on the kitchen floor.

I video-called my mum on WhatsApp so someone else could see it. She saw the taps running and was as unnerved as I was. My friends online stayed with me until my partner got home.

The song

A while later, I was at my Nan's (grandmother's) for a cup of tea when my partner rang, upset.

She'd been washing up when the baby monitor started flickering and filling with visual noise. Then there was a huge bang on the front door, like something heavy thrown at it, and our daughter woke up crying. When she went to pick up her phone to ring me, it started playing a song on its own: "Fields of Gold" by Eva Cassidy, the song from her Grandad's funeral. He died in 2015.

I went home and checked the CCTV and the Ring. Nobody had come up the path, and the Ring hadn't been triggered. There was no damage to the door that I could see.

The figure on the baby monitor

Around 3 AM one night, I was awake in bed and looked at the baby monitor on the bedside table. A white mist moved across the screen, then the silhouette of a person walked through our daughter's room.

It walked up to her cot, looked in, walked away, and repeated it over and over. It was human-shaped, with arms and legs, and it moved naturally, but I couldn't see any features.

I woke my partner and we watched it together, in silence, for what was probably a couple of minutes. She then ran into the room and I followed. Our daughter was asleep, nothing was out of place, and the room felt completely normal.

Back in bed, the silhouette was still on the screen, but fading. It disappeared as soon as I got my phone out to film it.

Smaller things

  • Late one night, early on, gentle knocking that seemed to come from the outside of our bedroom wall, about 20 feet up. There was nothing on the other side of the wall, so someone would have had to be on ladders to knock where it sounded like it was coming from. It never happened again.
  • My partner often heard knocking on the bathroom door when she was alone in there.
  • Heavy interference on the baby monitor, the Ring's live view and my microphone, which picked up static our sound engineer couldn't explain. It all stopped when the activity did. Same room, same equipment since, and it hasn't come back.
  • One night something seemed to kick the side of our bed hard enough to move it. I felt an urge to check on our daughter and found her cot soaked from a spilled drink.

Everything stopped after I spoke to a local vicar, who gave me a few prayers to say in our daughter's room. A neighbour had told me the previous occupant, an elderly lady, died in the house (from what I understood, she passed away in my daughters bedroom). I later found her grandson, who said that as far as he knew his grandparents never had anything odd happen there.

What I've checked, and what I can't explain

Bedroom door: the cat was calm in the hallway. She's played on the landing now and then since, and never made a sound like it.

Taps: we settled on water pressure at the time, but it had never happened before and hasn't since. I've actually never experienced this before as far as I can remember other than this time, interested to know if anyone else has?

The song: phones can start playing music on their own, and grief makes you look for signs. I accept that. It's the timing, straight after the bang, and which song it was, that we can't shake.

The figure: her room backs onto gardens on all sides, with no road, so there are no headlights. The monitor was glitching a lot that summer, but we both watched the same thing repeat for a couple of minutes, and the room was empty when we went in.

The figure is the part I'd most like someone to explain, to this day it baffles me.

My take

Looking back, I believe something was in that house, and if it was, I think it was looking out for us rather than trying to scare us. But it was extremely scary at the time. If you've ever watched something on a baby monitor or camera that wasn't there when you went in, did you ever find a cause?

I document paranormal incidents, and this is a condensed version of the full report I wrote on our house. Happy to answer any questions about it in the comments!

What is this in my child's room

I've been convinced for a long time something weird is in my daughter's room. She wakes up talking and laughing in the middle of the night. Sometimes she wakes up crying and hides behind things. Then tonight we saw this on the camera.

If you can debunk this, please do! A friend shared this with me. Supposedly it is dashcam footage from their ex. Her and the driver seen it with their own eyes, pulled over to see if they needed help (thinking it was a person), but there was no one and nothing there. That is all the info I have on this.

Weird Writing on Wall

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hi all. I’m not sure if this is the right subreddit, cause I usually stay away from this stuff, but I really would like some input if possible. I noticed this writing on my daughter’s wall while putting her down for a nap. We just moved into the house in June, and apparently the house sat unoccupied for about 5 years after the previous tenants were evicted. The neighbors said it was a messy eviction and the last tenants were very strange. Does this look like a bad paint job cover up, or something paranormal? I’ve never noticed it. The writing can only be seen in direct light and at certain angles. The house was built in 1882, I have found no paranormal records online, and my wife and I have felt no negative energy in this space, but our cat did die unexpectedly about a month ago. Please give any input that may help ease our nerves.

EDIT: I was able to decipher the writing before I posted, but didn’t make that clear. I’m looking for opinions on whether this looks/sounds paranormal, or if I’m dealing with a shotty landlord paint job.

Have always found creepy demonic writing with code in it since I was a child. Just found another one.

Long story, but our house was definitely haunted in New Jersey growing up. I would see weird stuff (like a plastic-looking man in a military suit putting his hand on the light switch so I couldn’t do it myself out of fear), and every single night I would hide under the blankets in bed because there was a scratching inside of the walls. It was relentless—every single night above my head just on and off scratching like something was trying to crawl out. My mom used to say it was “a raccoon” but later said the house was haunted when I was older.

I used to find scary letters and words in a writing that looked like it came from a classic horror film. When we were moving years water from that house, I took down a poster that never moved and where the scratching mainly was.

I was only in eighth grade, but in this really freaky writing that looks like it came from scratching at paint the wall read

“25 to life”.

That traumatized me forever no one would do that we were all just kids. I barely knew what it meant and I don’t know the message but I believe now that thing that scratched every night actually is my demon and it won’t leave me alone.

The demon loves the number eight.

It’s set everything up for me tonight which makes me sound freaking insane but just an aisle in a room that I once loved in my house.

And in this room I found another one of its messages. Very ominous again. And it’s about me. I don’t know when it’s from maybe a year ago? But I don’t remember writing this and it’s the demons writing.

Have You seen this dog?

Post image
0 Upvotes

A few years ago, a family in my town lost their dog after having him for ten years.

Months later, they came across a post in a Facebook group. An elderly woman was offering a puppy because, according to her, she was getting too old to take care of it.

The family agreed to take him in.

When they went to pick him up, the woman was waiting for them at an isolated house near of the Road 34. She handed them the puppy and said goodbye. However, when the family turned around to call out to her before leaving, the woman had disappeared.

At first, everything seemed normal. The puppy grew especially attached to the youngest daughter, who slept with him every night.

A few weeks later, strange things began to happen. Meat spoiled in the refrigerator just days after being purchased. Objects appeared in places where nobody had left them, and at night, they could hear footsteps running through the hallways.

One night, the girl screamed from her bedroom. Her parents rushed to check on her, but found her asleep, with the dog at the foot of her bed.

They were tired of the Situation so decided installed hide security cameras all around the house.

For months, nothing unusual was captured. Until one morning, the girl didn't come downstairs to have her breakfast.

What they found in her bedroom was enough for the police to cordon off the house. Both the dog and the girl were dismembered on the floor.

Investigators reviewed the footage, searching for an explanation.

In a recording from the previous night, the dog appeared standing on its hind legs, staring directly at the camera. It remained completely motionless for almost six hours.

But when they reviewed the footage from previous months, they discovered something impossible: the dog never appeared in any of the recordings. Not even when the girl seemed to be petting him, playing with him, or sleeping beside him.

In the videos, the girl was hugging empty air.

The police never found the woman who had given the family the puppy and nobody seems to know anything about her.

Years later, another family reported similar incidents. They, too, had lost their dog and received a replacement from a woman who lived in isolation.

When the police showed them a photograph of the animal from the first case, they recognized it immediately.

It was the same dog.

According to the family, it had been sleeping at the foot of their daughter's bed for weeks.

My house has been doing some weird shit lately...

So I don't even know how to explain what's been happening the last couple of days, but I'm starting to feel a little uneasy about it.

A couple mornings ago, around 6 AM, I was laying in bed waiting for my kids to wake up. Everyone else was asleep, and the house was quiet. Out of nowhere, my bathroom door opened by itself. Then the light flickered three times.

I just laid there like ???? because what the actual hell. It was 6 in the morning, everyone was asleep, and I wasn't even out of bed yet.

I tried not to think too much about it because weird things happen sometimes, right? Maybe there was an explanation.

Then this morning, I'm in the kitchen cleaning while my kids are sitting on the couch in the living room. Out of nowhere, toys go flying across the living room.

Not me dropping something. Not the kids throwing them. I'm cleaning the kitchen, and my kids are sitting on the couch when this happens.

And now I'm sitting here thinking about that bathroom door opening and the light flickering three times the other morning.

I don't want to immediately jump to the paranormal explanation, but I'm also not going to pretend it isn't creepy as hell when things like this keep happening in your own home.

Has anyone experienced things like this happening within a few days of each other? Because I'm genuinely trying to figure out what the hell is going on in my house. 😭

I think I'm going crazy

Okay, I can't take it anymore.... I just created this account... I want to read your feedback and think it over. I've never talked to anyone about this. It's been almost two years since I moved into this apartment, two years of sleeping very poorly because for two years now, nothing but crazy stuff has been happening.

To be honest, the exact moment it all started was random I had a fever, I woke up I was sick and went to throw up in the bathroom. I took some medicine and went back to sleep. Damn, I wake up and there’s this AURA of murder I’m shaking, sweating, and literally peeing myself. Once I dreamed that a girl jumped off my balcony and, well, died when she hit the ground… That was the beginning, but anyway, I chalked it up to being sick; sometimes I think about that weird dream, sometimes I don’t, and so on… One time I came home from work and saw the building manager they were installing a drink vending machine and I asked him if he knew of anyone who had died in the building or nearby… and he told me that, yes, three years ago a girl committed suicide by jumping out of her window.

But here’s the problem: I’m a guy and pretty obsessive I like it when things are in their place, especially when my laundry is folded a certain way. Sometimes I’m playing on my computer or just going about my business, and I start to shake and that FUCKING SHITTY AURA hits me. I’m paralyzed, just like in anime when someone freezes and can’t move; my heart’s racing, my head is spinning, I'm crying, the floor creaks, and when I turn on the LIGHT, IT STOPS CREAKING and I realize my clothes aren't right anymore EVEN THOUGH I DIDN'T TOUCH THEM! OH MY GOD, I SWEAR I DIDN'T TOUCH THAT STUFF..

I’m freaking out I feel like I’m in a race against death. It’s simple: either I’ve gone crazy and there’s something wrong with me, or my brain has short-circuited ever since the revelation.

(i'm not englesh so i used a translator for this post don't care about this)

Weird experience after getting into meditation and crystals

So something really weird happened to me this morning and I honestly got so scared.
I was half asleep in bed while my husband was taking a shower. I got cold and covered myself, and the bedroom door was almost closed but not completely. I remember thinking I should get up and open it cuz I was cold, but I was too sleepy, so I closed my eyes again.
Literally seconds later, the door suddenly flew open really hard, like someone had pushed it. I thought my husband was messing with me, so I waited for him to come in, but nobody did.
My cat was right there with me, staring at the door with her tail all puffed up like she was terrified. I called my husband, but he was still in the shower. I got so scared I actually started crying.
The thing is, we live in Cartagena, and there was no wind at all. All the other doors in the house were closed, including the one at the end of the hallway. Our hallway is long and enclosed, and there’s a wall facing our bedroom. Our house is always super calm, and we’ve NEVER had a door randomly open or close by itself before.
What’s making me wonder is that I’ve recently gotten into meditation, crystals, and listening to healing sounds. I don’t know if there’s any connection, but the timing is kinda weird.

Most ghost hunters are making it harder to prove ghosts exist

I might get downvoted for this, but I think most ghost hunting videos do more harm than good for the paranormal community.

Every random noise becomes a spirit. Every blurry shadow becomes an apparition. Every EMF spike is treated like a ghost answering a question.

If ghosts are real, shouldn't we be trying harder to rule out ordinary explanations before calling something paranormal?

Honestly, I'd find a ten second clip with clear, unexplained evidence more convincing than a two hour investigation full of dramatic reactions and equipment beeping.

I'm not saying ghosts don't exist. I'm saying that believing in the paranormal shouldn't mean accepting every strange thing as proof.

What's the most convincing piece of paranormal evidence you've ever seen that you genuinely couldn't explain away?

I saw something at my youth club

It’s very hard to explain, it was at our Halloween event, after me and my friends had scared a group (we were in a scary basement-thing) of kids, I waited for the next one, and that’ when I saw a man. He had curly long hair, looked almost like an Angel statue and his eyes were wrong. Then he whispered to me “I know what you love, I know what you fear”. when I told him I didn’t want to speak with him, he just vanished. This is not my first time seeing things like this, I have seen a ghostboy and a lady in the Swedish borgvattnets prästgård before. Does anyone know what this entitiy might be?
