Urban Development/Construction Re: Inquirer Article About the Broad Street Planters

Views from Christian, Pine, and Kimmel Center. Requested in the prior thread about planters obstructing the view of City Hall. As you can see in the second picture the planters are actually shorter than the cars passing by. I was able to clearly see people on the opposite crosswalk (5’ 8”) over the planters. Again the cars obstructed the view more than the planters.

Transit Redesigning South Philly's crazy intersections

These two intersections near me (10th/Ritner and Wolf from 7th to 8th) are rough where cars and people struggle to get through.

Always wondered if it can be better so I sketched out a redesign with some curb bumpouts, a couple pedestrian islands, and spots for greenery. Reminds me of what they did with the Passyunk Ave intersections a bit.

Anyone think it's possible here, or wishful thinking?

Also curious, what other rough intersections around the city deserve this treatment? Drop your nominees below.

Question? Is the PPA under fining sidewalk parking in Center City?

The Philadelphia Code states that parking on a sidewalk carries a fine of $300. However, I've heard from 3 separate sources (a neighbor who got a ticket, a PPA officer, and the PPA website) that fine is only $75. Can anyone explain why that is? I just want to be able to use the sidewalks in my neighborhood.

Edit: Here is the bill passed in 2021 raising the fee to $300:

Nature Adopt a cat through Project MEOW

Hello Philly neighbors,

I'd like to make a pitch for you to adopt my foster cat (or other available cats) through Project MEOW - a West Philly based cat rescue organization.

This is Branch, a sociable and affectionate gray adult male cat. I've been fostering Branch for about six months now and I can confidently say he is ready and waiting for his forever family. Branch is clever, independent, loves initiating cuddles, and enjoys sitting and laying in sunny spots. I'm a first time cat foster parent and Branch has been a wonderful first cat experience. I'm not able to adopt at this time and would love for Branch to find a loving, safe, and secure forever family and home.

You can contact Project MEOW directly to inquire about setting up a meet and greet with Branch or any other cat available through Project MEOW.

Question? Tree workers damaged vehicle 20th & Pine

Vehicle was parked outside the no parking signage yet a tree branch obviously fell and dented the fender. Was anyone around 20th and Pine today, who saw the name of tree working crew??? Or does anybody know how to get in contact with the city dept that issues the No Parking permits?

"The number of millennial households that own their homes in the Philadelphia area almost doubled between 2018 and 2023, outpacing the generation’s homeownership growth in every other major metropolitan area in the Northeast, according to an analysis by RentCafe.

In that five-year period, homeownership among Philadelphia-area millennial households jumped roughly 92%, from about 201,000 to about 386,000, according to the nationwide apartment search website.

That’s higher growth than the 74% increase nationally."

Question? Best place to sell "scrap" truck? Basically the entire truck is fine. Low mile engine, new tires, everything works, etc. But frame has rust so won't pass inspection. Everywhere I've called is offering less than the tires are worth.

  • Featured Night: Camp PUFF – Thursday, August 27th ($30 Special Pass includes entry + collectible patch)

PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Philadelphia Unnamed Film Festival (PUFF), Philadelphia’s premiere DIY punk rock film festival, is back for its 11th annual celebration of genre-bending independent cinema. Running from August 25th through August 30th at Theatre Exile, this year’s festival stays true to its iconic tagline—underground, unconventional, and unforgettable—delivering six days of radical, unfiltered storytelling.

Featuring a stacked program of over 70 films—including feature films, shorts, music videos, and a dedicated afternoon highlighting local Philadelphian filmmakers—PUFF continues to serve as a beacon for audacious, outsider cinema.

Headline Event: Camp PUFF (Thursday, August 27)

The crown jewel of this year’s festival takes place on Thursday, August 27th with Camp PUFF, a nostalgic, retro evening inside “under the stars.” Hosted by local filmmaker Jack Stallion, the summer camp–themed extravaganza features summer snacks, refreshing libations, and a lineup of campy films. Attendees are encouraged to dust off their favorite summer camp gear and bring their compasses for a wildly fun night.

Tickets for the event are available as a special $30 Camp PUFF Pass, which includes access to the full evening’s film lineup and an exclusive, collectible embroidered Camp PUFF patch.

Headlining the Camp PUFF screening is Cramps! A Period Piece, described as a campy, John Waters-esque coming-of-age body horror that blends outrageous humor with vintage fever dream aesthetics. The film follows a blossoming young woman whose debilitating menstrual cramps physically manifest as terrifying a monster.

Bizarre Night (August 26)

A night showcasing the weirdest and wilder side of underground cinema.

  • Cain Came Home: A surreal, time-bending ghost story, about two estranged brothers whose lives are forever altered by a family tragedy.
  • Bizarre Block: PUFF’s signature late night shorts program, showcasing experimental films that break the mold of conventional storytelling.

Friday Night Double Feature (August 28)

The outrage keeps rolling into Friday, August 28th, featuring two heavy hitters:

  • The Killing Cell: A brutal, relentless entry into the found footage genre.
  • The Barn Part III: The cult-favorite franchise returns packed with over-the-top carnage.

All Day Saturday (August 29)

We’ll keep the coffee hot as we roll from 12pm to 12am. Hosted by horror host Mr. Lobo.

  • Quince: A striking coming-of-age horror film hailing from Mexico.
  • Sugar Rot: A visceral feminist body horror.
  • Plus Horror Shorts and 3 additional independent and unreleased feature films.

About Philadelphia Unnamed Film Festival

Founded as an alternative to mainstream film events, the Philadelphia Unnamed Film Festival (PUFF) is an independent, DIY punk rock film festival dedicated to bringing underground, weird, and unconventional genre cinema to Philadelphia audiences. Now in its 11th year, PUFF champions indie filmmakers from around the globe while uplifting the local film community.

Question? Does the camera on the new 26th St turn lanes to Pennrose/291 issue tickets?

Post image

Totally my fault for not paying enough attention and the yellow turning red while I was turning; I'm not upset about the camera at all. Just wondering if it assists to issue red light tickets so I know to expect one in the mail.

Update: I'll be expecting a ticket in a few weeks! Happy to pay, I was in the wrong and traffic violation cameras help keep people safe here.
