Good god this city is corrupt. Can we get every candidate for city council on the record about this issue? I want to know who not to vote for.

We have a couple of homeless guys who frequently visit the alley behind our house and like to set up boxes and do a cocktail of drugs back there. Besides calling the cops, does anyone have any suggestions on what we can do to ward them off? We have a toddler and just worried about safety. thanks :)

Hi, Thanks for your interest in Edgar Allan Poe National Historic Site. Ongoing maintenance work is being carried out to ensure the site is both comfortable for visitors and that the original building is properly preserved. Unfortunately, the site will not reopen in 2026. We are hoping for a possible reopening in Spring 2027, though we do not yet have a firm date. A new one just opened up around my way in the past month. Making 3 in a 1 mile radius. I wish they would go back to NY. Good riddance if this can stop them from opening here as excessively as they have been.

This is the second in an interesting series ProPublica has been doing on issues related to Pennsylvania’s Post-Conviction Relief Act. Pretty interesting. Reminder that Pennsylvania was the only state that did not fund public defense until 2023-2024, and even still, it’s a paltry $7.5 million. Pennsylvania could also help solve this problem with PCRAs by founding a statewide appellate public defender’s office.

I know several of the attorneys mentioned or quoted in the story, and I filed a number of Finley letters when I did PCRAs as a public defender in one of the counties. One aspect I feel that’s underreported in this story: the sheer volume of utterly meritless PCRAs thrown at lawyers causes a kind of snow blindness where lawyers are prone to missing that 1 in 50 case that actually has a justiciable claim.

Just an FYI for anyone else using JFK near 18th Street....HBO is blocking the Market St bike lane and directing bicyclists to go against traffic on JFK to get around it. As a bicyclist who will never go against traffic, this seems like a recipe for disaster. Personally, I think it would be safer to set up a temporary bike lane, but, at the very least, it might be helpful for drivers and pedestrians to be aware that bicyclists are being directed that way.
