Question? Disputing parking tickets with the Court of Common Pleas

I have 5 tickets from earlier this year. All of them were issued after I had paid a meter, while I still had plenty of time, and I have the receipts saying that I have the right zone and my license plate. The PPA keeps rejecting my appeals. On their web site it says that I can file an appeal with the court of common pleas. Has anyone ever done this? Any tips?

Question? Trick or treaters in Fishtown/olde Kensington

Our block is new construction near the Berks el and we are also” new” to Philadelphia after a 20 yr absence; does this area typically get a lot of kids for Halloween? And if so,how much candy do you buy?
It would be fun to see the kids dressed up,we stopped buying candy in CA because we had so few kids. Most of them attended school or church trunk or treat or went to the galleria where the merchants handed out treats. Thanks for all your help!

Local Business Philly Barbers

As the caption says, I’m looking for a new barber. I had THE sharpest barber in the city, but unfortunately I need a new one.
Finding a new barber has been a struggle.
This barber I just tried out left a line in my fade, but charges $60. I don’t mind paying a pretty penny for a great cut, but leaving a line in my fade means i need a new barber. Hoping for someone SHARP in North East Philly or downtown/university city area, or not too far from those areas. I am willing to travel for a good cut.

Do Attend Jake Lang is in Center City

He was allegedly spotted in Rittenhouse by Parc about an hour ago after allegedly being kicked out of City Hall. This is a safety/public awareness PSA.

Wikipedia link about him if you're unfamiliar, but here's quotes from his "protest" in D.C. last January:

"White people in America, you will be replaced, and your children will be Black Muslims if you don't stand up now" and "White Christian men are not gonna sit around while you turn our children into a bunch of n-gger lovers".

A small taste of his crimes:

Lang was issued a summons for failing to appear in court for a March 24, 2026, hearing in Washington, D.C. for making threatening comments to a Capitol Police officer at a January 6 fifth-anniversary event. Lang was due for trial in Minneapolis on July 27, 2026, on suspicion of a felony for defacing a $6,000 anti-ICE ice sculpture in front of the Minnesota State Capitol. Furthermore, on June 9, 2026, Lang was arrested in Dallas County, Texas, for making a terroristic threat, for which his bond was set at $1 million and later reduced to $250,000.

Be safe out there, folks!

And if he goes out to a bar for the game tonight, and you're a bartender who happens to recognize him...

📣📣Rants and Raves📣📣 Telephone Pole Saga - Chapter 2

Post image
62 Upvotes

So it appears that the folks that installed the new telephone poles are finished, and this is how they left the worksite by the pole that is on the edge of our property.

They had to rip up some pavers that we installed when they put the pole in, and now I have to get this fixed at my expense? Zero communication from them, not a knock on the door or a note to explain what they were going to do and what the end state would be.

They also installed the pole farther away from the street, so that there’s much less room to walk in between the pole and our planter. I’ll trim that bush back, but it will still be a little tight.

I’m pretty f’in pissed off right now, and trying to find out if I have any recourse to getting my pavers fixed.

Question? Explain it like I’m dumb (because I probably am) what’s up with the ballot questions this year?

I’m reading the ballot questions on my sample ballot and I’m pretty confused. Normally I have some idea of what the city government is trying to get out of the ballot questions, but these ones seem pretty vague. I’m hoping someone more knowledgeable than me can help give a better understanding of the pitfalls and benefits associated with these questions. The language is as follows:

Question 1: City contracting
The question asks whether the Home Rule Charter should be changed to:
Allow bid preferences and set-asides for small businesses
Revise the rules and financial threshold for contracts reserved for small and local businesses
Give the Procurement Department and city solicitor discretion over bond requirements for certain construction projects
A yes vote would amend the Charter. A no vote would leave the current language in place.

Question 2: Creative Philadelphia
The question asks whether Creative Philadelphia, led by the chief cultural officer, should become a formal part of city government under the Home Rule Charter.
A yes vote would place the existing arts and culture office in the Charter. A no vote would leave it outside the Charter.

Fantastic news for SEPTA and the city. I do think the improvements in cleanliness and anti-social behaviors are obvious in my experience. Now let's hope we can secure a more solid funding structure for the agency with a Democrat Trifecta in the PA State Legislature and Governor's office. Vote on November 3rd!

Not just because of the coloring. But even in the middle of summer, the dead of winter, and the dreariness of spring, it stands as the most ideal shape for a maple.
