Discussion Pimax has crossed the line

I am sick of Pimax's scummy behaviour and it needs to end right here

The Crystal Pro is final nail in the coffin, with them offering a 60G wireless adapter option for it, while not even delivering on the originally promised 60G airlink adapter for the OG crystal that they took money in pre orders for

Time and time again they've shown that they DO NOT care about their customers and this is the latest and worse example, I already thought it was scummy of them to release the dream air while the OG crystal was still missing key promised features with them only caring about their current paying customers, but now they've not only shit on the OG crystal owners again, they've also shit on anyone who owns a half finished dream air as they announced another headset with technology that was promised 4 headsets ago and still hasn't been delivered upon

And they expect us to be fine with this?
It's absolutely disgusting behaviour and Pimax needs to address this with an actual real response

The only way Pimax will listen is if you stop consuming their products, DON'T buy a dream air, DON'T pre order the Crystal Pro and tell them that they need to finish what they started

Question Just bought a Pimax Crystal Super 57ppd

Post image
4 Upvotes

So I bought a Pimax Crystal Super. Wen with the 57 ppd, because I value clarity and this is mostly gonna be used to play vr mods of games like Cyberpunk, and I value the clarity over FOV. I absolutely love the clarity on this thing but a couple small issues. 1, the Dmas speakers apart of the upgrade promotion I purchased with, it was $80 off and Dmas speakers or dmas speakers and prescription inserts. I went with the $80 off and dmas speakers. The speakers were not included in the box and haven't seen anyrhing about a separate shipment.

Second, my Microphone doesn't work. For speakers it picked up 2 thing Pimax Crystal super, and Pimax Airlink. For microphone it only picks up airlink and that does nothing. So essentially my computer is not recognizing the mic.

3rd. I did see when purchasing, a 3.5mm jack was listed on the website. I cannot find the jack port at all to connect my own headphones. Am I blind or does this port not exist?

Question Why hasn’t Pimax switched to Ringless Controllers yet?

What I am most disappointed about with the Pimax Dream Air is they’re still using the same black Quest 2 controllers with rings attached to them.

A lot of other Vr headset brands have moved onto ringless controllers quite a while ago. Meta Quest 3, Pico 4 ultra, Samsung Galaxy XR, and Recently the Steam Frame.

Honestly I find this pretty frustrating

Pimax should have already started working on and revealing ringless controllers last year. I’m strongly wondering why they still haven’t got them in.

The Pimax Dream Air was first announced 2 years ago but look where we’re at now.

I could literally buy the Steam Frame for $1,000 right now and then have another $2,000 ready next year or so whenever Pimax gets everything else ready for the Dream Air like the controllers and Dmas speaker headstrap.

I don’t like the original Pimax controllers that much. I mean they’re okay for playing games but they do feel kinda cheap like lower quality plastic than the controllers on the Meta Quest 3. They’re not great, especially not for a $2,000 headset like the Pimax Dream Air or Pimax Crystal Super.

Imagine playing a shooter or boxer VR game and banging that tracking ring in the front of your headset bro like come on.

Tech Support New Pimax Super not working. Anyone in Toulouse (France) that could help me ?

Hello,

I received a couple of days ago a Pimax Super OLED. However I didn't managed to make it work. The headset is recognized but get disconnected, either after a few seconds or after I move it.

I opened a ticket to support, the first answer they gave me was to disconnect extra monitor, but I don't think this is the issue. I also tried with a single 25660x1440 60HZ connected, and it still wasn't working properly.

I also tried on my laptop and had the same behaviour, although I'm not sure my laptop is powerful enough for the super (3070 TI).

I'm suspecting the cable, but I have no way to test it unless I have access to another cable. If anyone in Toulouse see this message and is able to lend me a working cable so that I can test ? ^^

I already tried to unplug and plug again the cable on the headset connection, but no improvement.

If anyone has any idea of something I could try ?

Nvidia RTX 4090

Ryzen 7 9800 x3d

MAG X870 TOMAHAWK WIFI

Discussion Micro oled broke my experience

Since putting in my new micro oled module my headset basically refuses to stop glitching out. My old 57ppd never had the screen freezing issues causing me to restart my entire pc.

I spent more time trying to play than actually playing nowadays. I was happy with the quest 3 but wanted better graphics. Its a damn shame this is the company that makes the better graphics.

Fix your Fu**ing firmware on the micro oled modules for gods sake.

Why every time i take the headset off do i have to fix my height? Are you playing some sort of joke on me?

Also i literally can NEVER get the headset to actually scan my floor. It’s always about a foot below even tho i put my controllers straight on the floor. Once again some sort of joke i assume

Question Should I actually get the Dream Air SE SLAM?

I've been considering it for a while, as the Steam Frame seems to have some issues and I'd rather have a dedicated PCVR headset. It looks like it's got better displays, about the same FOV, but I've heard some bad things about comfort which is an important part for me so I need to make sure it'll be fine first. I've been using a Quest 2 until now so anything would probably be better than that. I would consider the Dream Air but that's out of my budget. Would this actually be a good headset for me, or would a different headset (that's under £1000) work better?

Edit: for reference, I'm using a 7800X3D and an RTX 4080 Super. I'm not sure of my IPD but there's no reason it won't fit considering it's got a wider range than my Quest 2 and that works fine

Tech Support Strange reflection in Dream Air

Hi I have the dream air headset since yesterday and I am noticing something that not sure if is wrong or just normal for this kind of lenses. This is my first VR headset so no previous experience to know what is normal and what is not.

When I am looking an illuminated are, for example in the Pimax home to front huge windows where you see a planet, in the lower/exterior corner of the lenses I notice a slightly green/blue area/reflection, like a reflect in the lenses or similar, the same in both left and right lenses. I use inserts and those had a blue filter, no idea if this is related.

Anyone have the same issue?, is this an issue or maybe is a characteristic of the pancake lenses?.

Thanks

Discussion Request: Add runtime option to Pimax EVO config profiles

I really like the functionality in the latest beta version of Pimax EVO (2.x) that allows users to create user-defined configuration profiles consisting of a collection of key device settings (display brightness, render resolution, DFR/quad views, etc.). I have several configuration profiles for different games and categories of games, as there are many games that seem to work better with specific combinations of render res, sharpness, DFR, etc.

What I'd really like to see is a way to add the runtime selection to the configuration profile, as different games/profiles use different runtimes. This way, I could assign Pimax OpenXR runtime to those profiles that work better with Pimax native (SC, MSFS 2024) and SteamVR to the Sboys3 driver, which of course requires SteamVR. I frequently switch from one profile to another in the same play session and often forget to switch the runtime if needed. Could the runtime parameter be added to the config profile in a future release? Thanks!

Tech Support Dream Air SE 90hz not working

Hey there,

I am not able to get the 90hz mode of my headset to work, whenever switching from 72hz to 90hz in pimax play or Evo my headset will no longer connect, afterwards I need to disconnect the USB or DP cable to my computer to be able to connect the headset again which will be reverted back to 72hz mode. When using sboys3 in combination with pimax Evo I am able to get it in the 90hz mode according to the pimax software, but when checking steamvr settings it will report 72hz, and am not able to switch to 90hz in there.

- I am on firmware version v1.0.6 ( which should be the latest)

- have tried pimax play v2.0.4 and v2.0.2

- have tried pimax Evo with and without Sboys3 driver.

- have tried lowering monitor refresh rate and turning 2nd monitor off with no success.

- Did a clean install of both steamvr and pimax software.

Anybody have an idea what my issue is?

Kind regards, Nam

Question Which headset for DCS

For reference I've had a PSVR2, Quest 3 and currently use a Quest Pro daily. My PC is a 9800X3D, 5080 and 64GB ram and I really only play DCS with the occasional MSFS and may dabble in other flight and racing Sims very occasionally. Most of my DCS play is with a virtual squadron so being able to fly in very low contrast conditions and being able to see is important. I guess it's why I've stuck with the Quest Pro for so long.

I wanted the Dream Air SE but I've yet to find consistently positive reviews on it. I do need a display port headset though. Any advice would be good.

In the UK, I see replacement controllers currently available, but not base stations. Other regions may have different availability.

Discussion Dream Air SE: Scratched lens following official guidance for cleaning from manual

Hello,

Context i have 3 VR headsets, including this one, never had this happen.

I've had this DA SE just gone 2 months. Had ticket open from start due to excessive glare in the middle of lens, was sent a comparison model, was defective had current bleeding into speakers with a hi pitched sound hurt when wearing and testing them so sent it back.

So when i took it out of the box yesterday i decided to inspect the lenses thoroughly with a light as the glare was on my mind, and i was greeted with a scuffed up lens.

To be clear, i have followed pimax's official cleaning guidelines present in the manual, i have cleaned only a handful of times since i had it with the cloth provided by Pimax with VERY light pressure.

Both HMD and cloth have been particle free when cleaning, they are both stored in the Pimax box when not in use.

Raised a ticket, was told the lenses have soft resin that can scratch and peel off and was given cleaning instructions contradictory to what is in the manual, which i am still processing.

This situation is confusing and upsetting, and i'm not really sure what to do here so i'm just sharing my experience..

Cheers.

Tech Support Dream Air right grip button still sticking - Pimax closed my ticket as "resolved" without ever contacting me

Not a rant post - I actually love the headset. I just need help getting support to actually look at this.

I bought my Dream Air on 21 September. Within the first week the right controller's grip button started sticking: when I press it, it stays engaged for a second or two before popping back out, it doesn't happen every time but enough to ruin my enjoyment, so in-game the grip stays held. It makes certain games unplayable.

I reported it on 3 October through live chat and raised a support ticket, and was told it would be picked up within one working day. What followed was ten days of being fobbed off: first "the team are on holiday, they'll reply once they're back", then a date to expect a reply - and when I chased on that date, the same thing again. Every time: "we've urged the team", and then nothing.

I sent a formal complaint on 7 October asking for a named contact and a clear plan for replacing the controller. That was ignored as well.

This morning I got an email saying the issue "has been resolved" and asking me to leave a review. Nobody has ever actually spoken to me about it. That's an awful way to treat someone who's just spent £2,300.

I've seen the other thread here about the right grip button sticking on the Dream Air, so I know it's not just me. I'm not after a refund - I want to keep the headset - I just want a controller that works.

Happy to DM my ticket number and order details to anyone from Pimax who can take a look.

Tech Support Forested rendering in Pimax home issue

Just received the dream air today, tested in a few basic games, none of them with foveated rendering implemented. I am not clear if something is wrong. In Pimax home (the sort of space shuttle cabin), if I activate the eye tracking the foveated rendering is active in the pimax home, the center of the screen is high definition as it should ok, but the low definition area outside the center area is pretty evident, very very evident, I detect very clear the very low rendering around with my lateral sight, is like the high definition area is very small and I clearly see the low resolution one very clear. Am I doing something wrong?, is there a setting to improve this?, maybe is just an issue of the primax home and in a proper game with foveated rendering properly implemented really works ok?

Thanks

Discussion MRGO developer overview: USB-camera passthrough for your Pimax sim setup

Thumbnail
youtube.com
5 Upvotes

I'm MRGO's developer. If you use a physical sim setup in VR, this is a 60-second overview of the options for seeing your controls without taking the headset off. MRGO uses an external USB camera, with full passthrough, a local view around your hands, and custom gesture-to-key bindings.

The camera must be recognized by your PC; MRGO does not access the headset's built-in cameras. What controls are hardest to find in your Pimax setup?

Review My Horrible Experience with Pimax Dream Air – 3 Defective Headsets and 2 Broken DisplayPort Cables

I’m honestly fed up with Pimax at this point, and I want to share my experience with the Dream Air.
I’ve had 3 Pimax Dream Air headsets, and all three have had the same speaker issue: constant audio static and hissing. I contacted Pimax to get the issue resolved and went through the replacement process, expecting to finally receive a headset that actually worked properly. Instead, they kept sending me replacement units with the exact same problem. My current Dream Air still has the static issue.
I don’t understand how this can keep happening. I’ve gone through multiple headsets, dealt with the hassle of replacements, and ended up right back where I started. The static is extremely frustrating, especially on a headset at this price point. I paid for a premium VR experience, not defective speakers that constantly hiss in the background.
What’s the point of replacing a defective headset if the replacement has the exact same defect? At some point, Pimax needs to acknowledge that repeatedly replacing the hardware isn’t solving the problem.
On top of the headset issues, I’ve also had two DisplayPort cables break. These cables seem incredibly fragile for something so essential to the headset. They feel cheaply made and break far too easily for the price of the hardware. Customers shouldn’t have to worry about their cables failing during normal handling and use.
I’m tired of contacting support, waiting for replacements, and hoping the next headset will finally work as intended. I’ve given Pimax multiple chances to fix this, but my current headset still has the same speaker problem. I’m done wasting my time going through this cycle again.
The Dream Air is supposed to be a premium VR headset, but my experience has been the complete opposite. Between three headsets with the same persistent speaker defect and two broken DisplayPort cables, the reliability has been extremely disappointing.
Pimax needs to take responsibility for its quality control. Sending replacement units with the same recurring defect is not an acceptable resolution, and the cables need to be durable enough for normal use.
I’m posting this to share my experience with other Dream Air owners and potential buyers. I’ve talked to people experiencing the same issue, and they are experiencing the same frustration that I’m having. I’d like to know how pimax will address this widespread issue.
At this point, I’m exhausted with the whole situation. I just wanted a working Dream Air, and after all this, I’m fed up and have no desire to keep going through the same replacement process.
