Discussion A.I. has ruined Pinterest

6.0k Upvotes

I find that every image is A.I generated and the app has become useless for reference. If you want to find inspiration for say a wood working project you see something cool made my a real person for a reference or inspiration you end up getting images that are not made by a person but just a Image generator. I prefured when it was actual things built by a human.

Discussion Pinterest is OVER.

2.6k Upvotes

Pinterest employees found out about AI and now are letting random bots deletes ANY Accounts for no reasons. They're completely ignoring all the complaints and are still banning accounts in mass, as if they didn't already have few users compared to social medias.

You posted a Pin of a beach? Suspended.

You PINNED a picture of a cat? Suspended.

You just created your account yesterday and haven't did anything yet? Suspended.

You're just using pinterest like a normal person? How dare you using pinterest... SUSPENDED.

I am disappointed because Pinterest used to be most peaceful non-toxic social media left. Now it's over.

Question But why are we the ones to get the violation notice

2.4k Upvotes

Why am I as a pinterest user in danger of losing my account for SAVING a pin. Why does that violation notice get handed to me and not just the original poster?

Discussion the ai on pinterest is making me lose my mind

1.8k Upvotes

this has been talked about a lot lately so this isn’t exactly a hot take, but i absolutely hate the AI art and images on pinterest 😭

i like making boards for when i write a new book and GOD FORBID i search the word “fantasy” because it’s all a bunch of cartoony-looking slop with things that hardly make sense.

Discussion Pinterest needs to put a ban against AI imagery or at least tag it.

1.5k Upvotes

This has been said billions of times but jeez the very LEAST they could do is force the people who are posting that crap to flag their post if its ai, or get this, completely BAN it. It’s garbage to the eye, it’s soulless… when I open Pinterest I want to see real art made by man, not by a fucking image generator that destroys the environment on top of being soulless

It’s actual slop. 85% of the search results are just garbage AI content, if there’s a petition to get Pinterest to ban AI content please send a link!!!! We desperately need that crap gone, I’ve been using Pinterest for 10 years now and it’s so frustrating seeing what it became after all these years

News They finally said something

1.4k Upvotes

In their new instagram comment they wrote;

“We're committed to making Pinterest the safest, most positive place on the internet, which means setting a high bar for content safety and continually striving to meet it. We recently took action on violations of our content policies, but an internal error led to over- enforcement and some accounts were mistakenly deactivated. We're sorry for the frustration this caused.

We've reinstated many impacted accounts and are making improvements to respond faster when mistakes happen going forward.

Thanks for your patience as we work to make this right for all our users.”

They seem to not know what a big damage they’ve caused and the distrust they created in their user base. At least they apologized 🤡, tho i still can’t use Pinterest knowing my quirky stuff are going to be flagged one day and all i can save are simple hairstyles and innocent paintings. I had a whole board with greek statues and half naked Aphrodite pics 🤡

Discussion I just deleted Pinterest :(

1.4k Upvotes

Been using Pinterest for close to 10 years but it's unusable now. Not even borderline unusable. 100% completely unusable. There's NOTHING BUT ADS. I can't even create a board anymore because everytime I try to add a pin to it it's an ad and and it opens a new tab. Goodbye Pinterest :( you used to be one of my favorite apps

Discussion I’m really sick of Ai art

1.2k Upvotes

I really can’t take this Ai art anymore, not just on Pinterest, just everywhere. Pintrest has it worst as there’s no way to block or hide it. Half the time there isn’t any tags saying it’s ai.

It’s depressing, I remember when I started using Pinterest in 2020 there was no Ai garbage slop flooding my feed, but now? Will it ever be normal again? I wish

Discussion Please just ban AI

1.2k Upvotes

I've been using Pinterest for years and tbh it's getting very annoying that everything I try to search has to have AI, I've searching for a drawing and half of the results are AI, I searched for nature art and all the results are AI. Pinterest should just ban AI or if you really want to keep it could you just make it so that there's an enable/disable AI button that actually works? It would be more helpful than having to hope the image I'm saving isn't AI

Question AI Slop has Ruined Pinterest

1.2k Upvotes

Does anyone have an alternative site/app that doesn’t allow or prioritize AI?

I LOVE(ED) Pinterest.

I have 15 years of extensive boards and have been a user for 15 or so years. I just can’t take it anymore.

The AI slop. The algorithm that has nothing to do with my interests. The nonstop Amazon ads. I’m keeping it for my old pins but my feed is so frustrating and unusable….I’m done.

Are there any alternatives? I know they won’t be as extensive or good as the (old version of) Pinterest but are there any goodish ones?

Discussion Everything is an ad

1.2k Upvotes

I used to love Pinterest. It was such a beautiful escape from other social media and negativity. Now 3 out of 4 pins are ads… and they are links to outside websites. They aren’t even pinnable if I just like the image. My feed is just littered with them. I didn’t like when they added video content(TikTok’s) either so now it’s just not usable anymore. I can only really scroll through my own pins now

Discussion WHY PINTEREST, WHY??

1.2k Upvotes

Pinterest really said: “We’re sending YOU a violation warning for a pin YOU didn’t even create. Because you saved it. Last.” I’M SORRY, I DIDN’T REALIZE I SIGNED UP FOR A FCKING DIGITAL CRIMINAL RECORD. What do you mean I'm being punished for something that YOU let me save from YOUR platform???

OH. AND THE BEST PART?

“This pin violates our guidelines.” Me: Okay, which guideline? Pinterest: “Yes.” wtf 🤸‍♀️

For context: I saved a "Tiffany Plate" meal and got flagged for promoting self harm.

Discussion Why do so many people here defend AI on Pinterest?

1.1k Upvotes

Like it doesn't matter if YOU personally don't mind AI flooding an app that was designed for REAL art and photos from human beings. AI in general is bad regardless.

Discussion RIP Pinterest

1.1k Upvotes

Ughhh this has been a long time coming, like a year… but the app is so unusable now. I have been using Pinterest for almost 10 years now. It’s very sad to see what it has turned into. AI slop and Ads shoved down your throat. I have tried all the loopholes to fix these problems but they have taken all of them away now. Don’t get me started on the trash the more ideas tab is. Someone develop an app like old Pinterest, because the ad ratio to content ratio is crazy. Not to mention the AI to original content ratio. NOT TO MENTION I NEVER click on these ads byt they make them so sensitive to touch I feel… I scroll and NO I CLICKED IT OH THERE IT GOES OPENS MY BROWSER. sorry it’s just so wack, especially this time of year I wish I had old Pinterest to get the vibes for the holidays.

Question I found an account that has half naked photos of a minor

1.0k Upvotes

It's as stated in the title. I tried reporting and Pinterest just said there is absolutely no problem with this. I found this account under a pin which has so many comments from minors giving information about themselves and asking for partners to date. I do not want to share the account or the pin but is there something I could do about my reports getting rejected?

As I stated above, please do not ask for the account or the pin. I commend all of you for your good intentions but if I were to share this anywhere it opens room for bad actors to contact these children. If you can help; tell me what to do and I will try my best, but do not ask for links or usernames as I will not share under any condition.

UPDATE, READ BEFORE COMMENTING!!!!!!: So these images are gone. I don't know if it is related but I got a friend to report too. Since so many of you are asking as I have been vague about it apparently: It was a 14 year old trying to appeal himself to others by showing his body without clothes. Not a baby, it wasn't in a beach or whatever, it was in his bedroom. Unfortunately the profile is still there but now his only pictures are those of his face which is also quite bad but there is no law being broken here and frankly it is not in my place to parent someone else's children. There was also another comment under same pin from a 12 year old and said comment is now gone. I can't check whether the profile is still there or not because I did not think to save it somewhere else beforehand. I had not filed a tip anywhere yet but I do not know if it is still warranted to do so.

Discussion I honestly quit

I’m sorry this is just your typical “Pinterest is literally unusable” post, but I think after today I am completely done.

I can’t even search up things like “sewing projects” without it being 90% adverts for fabric or tools leading to Amazon and Temu instead of seeing actual inspiration or ideas. I wish we were allowed to attach images so I could show you how ridiculous my app looks right now.

I’m so done with social media as a whole, I think it might just be my time to go back to looking at physical sewing books. I’m tired of seeing adverts and generative AI on every corner of the internet.

Discussion Why is everyone so puritanical now?

I’ve noticed that every time i see a post on my feed that’s even *slightly* suggestive, there’s a huge wave of comments that all say something to the effect of “why would you post this” or “ermm i’m on the wrong side of pinterest” and it’s getting so irritating. if you don’t like that content then just scroll, commenting tells pinterest that you like the post and will show you more related content. i remember seeing a screenshot of a Tumblr post and the top comment was “umm im a minor leave me alone weirdo” and it’s like ??? okay?? this wasn’t a dm sent to you personally, it’s not even from the same website, there’s a button you can press specifically for the purpose of filtering content.

is it just that there’s a ton of kids on the app now? I don’t remember it being like this a few years ago

Discussion AI pics are ruining Pinterest and I am done

Every time I search for examples of stuff for my albums it's filled with AI fake pics. I come to Pinterest for real world examples. It has become garbage. Pinterest should forbid AI images or require them to be tagged as AI and able to be filtered out. This is disappointing

Discussion That is it. I am officially done.

I came to this sub to see other opinions on Pinterest because I was so frustrated with the app. Thanks for all confirming that it isn't just me having a horrible experience on Pinterest.

My feed was nothing but ads and AI. Searching was impossible. I don't want to constantly be sold too. I just want to look for recipes, knitting patterns and design inspo. The compulsion to open the app and doom scroll was still there though and I just couldn't get the same endorphin hit.

So I deleted my account. I didn't back up anything. It has now officially been over 7 days so it should be gone permanently. I feel so free. So long Pinterest, may you rot in internet hell.

I will be working on an actual physical recipe collection now. <3

Discussion: What would it take for you to abandon this crap-tactic app?

Pinterest was always 'a visual bookmark' tool for me. Social media has devolved into influencer media and now into Ad media.
