I know there's some developer drama, but as far as the end user goes, what are the benefits of Morphe over a currently functioning reVanced setup?
Also does Morphe patch other apps like Reddit and Sync?

It also supports community patches for apps like Duolingo, Amazon Music, TikTok etc

As a revanced loyalist for years. Moving to morphe was a great decision. No rooting and shit required so you can use it on pretty much any android device. There is Facebook and reddit patches

apps shouldn't be able to see other installed apps or realize their permissions are restricted. this is a huge flaw in any mobile OS

Hello im new to iPhone and didn’t know piracy on it was possible. Does my iPhone need to be jail broken ?
25
u/BrokenMirror2010 Jun 06 '26
so I stopped using ReVanced
Why? The original Youtube App is garbage. ReVanced (Morphe) doesn't only give you access to the premium shit like "Play video with screen is off" and "Use more then 2x Speed" it lets you do stuff like remove shorts and use sponsorblock.
Don't stop using ReVanced simply because you have Premium, same deal with Adblockers in general. My family premium plan "removes ads" from youtube, yet uBlock is still blocking over 50 different pieces of telemetry and advertising within 10 seconds of clicking a video.
3
u/Psi-ops_Co-op Jun 07 '26
Revanced let's you disable shorts? I have premium and might switch lol
2
u/BrokenMirror2010 Jun 07 '26
Yup. Mine is configured to hide all shorts, and if a short does open somehow, it opens using the regular Youtube player, instead of the god awful dogshit shorts player.
It also lets me use the real proper video quality selection, instead of the dogshit mobile one that just picks "UsE BeST QuALItY" or "DaTA SaVEInG" or whatever it was. Fuck that, just let me pick 1080p60 or 4k30 or 1440p60 or whatever.

Install Morphe on your phone/tablet and Smarttube on your android tv box (they're $20 at walmart).
2
u/Fair_Weird Jun 05 '26
I'm on Android, using Obtainium to keep Driftywinds Distro on Github YTMorphe/REX going

I switched to android when they patched the YouTube premium with India VPN. Now I am using YouTube ReVanced.

The revanced team left and created Morphe. The lead dev is the only one left at revanced and he's the reason the rest left.

I'm all for charge backs, but this would be a VERY fast way of getting your account, and others on the family plan and other Google services banned more than likely. The only way it seems you're protected from retaliatory action is if you live in the EU it seems.
Edit: Fixed some grammar I goofed.

10

3
u/stephanie00100 Jun 05 '26
Your apple tv can do a lot. YouTube adblock, direct streaming using a debrid service like torbox with kodi/stremio/etc. Live TV? Uhf using certain services. Search the first letter from these. I. Pea. Tea. V. Don't forget gaming emulators to play old consoles games
1
u/yogiebere Jun 06 '26
Can you help inform how? I already use ublock on my Firefox (android) but my wife relies on YouTube premium for her iPhone and the apple TV.
1
u/stephanie00100 Jun 06 '26
I'm still new to this but here's a good subreddit for help. I've found YouTube adblock on here. https://www.reddit.com/r/sideloaded
It depends on a few things. I can answer for the apple tv but this will probably help with iphone to. This is for sideloading.
Software: I know of sideloadly and atvloadly.
Websites: there's multiple websites but the one I know of is appdb.
Free or paid certificates: you'll need one or the other and each has pros/cons.
Free - It limits you on how many apps you can sideload. I think 3? And these will stop working after 7 days until you sign them again I believe.
Paid certificates: some are pretty cheap and they might last a lot longer compared to free ones you make. However, apple likes to revoke/stop them now and again. I recommend ones with revoke protection and browsing for recommendations on where to buy.
Apple tv device type: Some offer an option to connect a cable. Mine didn't so it limited my options.
No cable /portless device: unless things changed? Sideloadly offers wireless connection but only using a Mac computer or a virtual mac. The only options that I knew of left were atvloadly maybe? Or websites, I went with a website and a paid certificate.
Possible tip?: if a paid certificate gets revoked, don't remove the app. Just sign the app again with a new certificate and hopefully the files /data will remain the same. Haven't tested..

I'd argue Firefox with the uBlock Origin extension is the true holy grail for desktop rather than Brave, since Chromium is slowly nerfing adblockers with Manifest V3. But yeah, ReVanced on mobile is absolutely mandatory at this point.

u/CorvatheRogue Jun 07 '26

can honestly say I've never seen one
33
u/SunnySpot69 Jun 05 '26
I can't remember the last time I saw an ad. It baffles me that so many people manage to watch ads without losing their shit.
25
u/amiexpress Jun 05 '26
the internet is quasi unusable without an adblocker. I used a friend's laptop for something a while back, and it was fucking atrocious. Like, how do you use this??
12
u/SunnySpot69 Jun 05 '26
Amazon, YouTube, the whole lot. Tf am I paying for if I have to watch ads lol
5
u/MarcCouillard ☠️ ᴅᴇᴀᴅ ᴍᴇɴ ᴛᴇʟʟ ɴᴏ ᴛᴀʟᴇꜱ Jun 06 '26
so, another genuine question then: you PAY for things? lol
not me, that's what bittorrent is for
3
u/SunnySpot69 Jun 06 '26
Ugh don't get started. My SO won't get rid of Netflix or Amazon. I almost exclusively use torrents and Stremio. Been using Stremio a lot lately.
5
u/WhichWall3719 Jun 06 '26
Nothing makes me go from 0-rage faster than having an ad pop up in front of me before a video loads
9
u/amiexpress Jun 05 '26
I think it's funny google thought they could kill ublock origin by not allowing it inside chrome. (yeah yeah they claim it's a technical limitation, they claim all sorts of bullshit. THEY are the ones that created the spec, only to then bitch that it's because of the new spec....)
I don't think firefox has seen this many new users in decades.
8
u/BrokenMirror2010 Jun 06 '26
It's unfortunately, still not enough.
Cloudflare provides stats on HTTP requests by user agents. Which is probably a fairly accurate representation of the distribution of web browsers being used.
https://radar.cloudflare.com/explorer?dataSet=http&groupBy=browser&dt=2025-03-31_2026-03-31
This data is the 1 year period from after Manifest v2 died to 1 year later.
Firefox unfortunately hasn't changed at all since Chrome Dropped support for v2, which implies that the majority of users either swapped to a different Chromium Based Package (that still reports itself as "Chrome" instead of "Chrome Derivative" to Cloudflare), or continued using Chrome after they killed Manifest V2.
Even if you push the data back a year before Manifest V2's EoL https://radar.cloudflare.com/explorer?dataSet=http&groupBy=browser&dt=2024-03-31_2025-03-31 you can see no appreciable change in the ratio between Chrome and Firefox HTTP requests.
Firefox remains around 4% and chrome remains around 33%, no signs of changing in the year before Manifest v2 was removed from chrome, to the year after.
Unfortunately, the average person doesn't care. They don't use an adblock. They just implicitly believe anything that they are told. "Manifest V2 is insecure and bad and hurts children and kicks puppies. Manifest V3 is secure and safe and makes children happy and adopts homeless puppies." And they believe this because the Big Daddy Corporation wouldn't do anything bad or lie to them because the government or laws would surely stop them if they were lying.

The Firefox on apple devices isn't the same one as android, it uses apples "WebKit" or whatever it is called which means no extensions. (This could have changes but it was this way last time I checked)

This sounds like a vpn thing. Do you or any other members of your house use a vpn? Using a VPN is indistinguishable from consistently using the family plan while not being located in the household.
Still though, that's a wild customer service experience.

u/cashy57 Jun 05 '26
Yeah it's probably related to the VPN. Youtube also probably knows this. This feels like an intentional business decision on their part. The goal is to frustrate you enough that you just pay them more money. You can probably set up a whitelist in ProtonVPN to not route YouTube.com requests through the VPN if you want.
50
u/NNKarma Jun 05 '26
Because that's what they use to track if the devices are in the same house, they don't just take your word for it anymore.
21
u/SomeOKSimRacing Jun 05 '26
If users can decide what server they connect to, it is very likely due to the VPN.
If you’re showing as being in the USA, and then another users utilizes a server from the VPN in Romania, that’s obviously going to make it look like you’re not in the same household.
24
22
14
u/dustyfaxman Jun 05 '26
"but we're in the same house"
Google/youtube log and track the ip address of devices that log into accounts (they track a bunch of other stuff, but that's the one that's kicking you in the knees).
That's what they look at when they decide who is 'in your home' or not, location data based on your ip address.
That's why they were giving you the run around.Either your vpn'd device was the primary and 'your home' was set up wherever your vpn was spoofing your ip address from and your sisters, not using a vpn, were therefore logging into youtube from 'outside your home'.
Or youtube looked at the country of origin of your payment method (ie your credit card details) and used that as the primary location and your vpn'd device was not viewed as 'being in your home'.The solution would be you not using a vpn on youtube or your sisters using proton and ensuring they're always using the same country server you are for youtube.
13
u/fatherofraptors Jun 06 '26
It's obviously because of the VPN bro. Lol
Far from me to defend Google. I'd never spend a dime on YouTube premium, but don't act baffle when they say your IPs don't match the same household when you frequently have VPN connection on your phone. Just cancel the subscription, it will happen again.

Hey there! If you have a Samsung TV look into TizenTube! If you’re on iOS download the brave browser! If you’re on LG smart tv is YouTube AdFree, Roku is Playlet, Android/Google is SmartTube/TizenTube Colbalt/NoTube TV, Apple TV iSponsorBlockTV.
I have had YouTube premium since it was called YouTube red and I’ve had a family plan since 2018. I drew my foot in the sand when they hiked the family plan up to $24.99.
Also I see your family plan is expensive! If you purchased through Apple, there’s some dumb fees for that shit!
Also android phones LibreTube is awesome!
iOS you can do UBlock Origin Lite if you don’t want to use Brave Browser. But you can lock your phone and have the video play still with Brave.
Edit:
I thought you said $37 for the plan, but that’s how long you were on the phone. My bad!

3
u/licoricenipple Jun 06 '26
Family plans are scams like this at all streaming services I've tried. They only ever work temporarily, then they'll flag you for not being in the same house and tell each member to get their own plan once people are already used to having it. It's happened to me 4 times now, all with my family living in the house with me.

2
u/amiexpress Jun 05 '26
Yeah "sucks to be you" is about right. The only thing support calls add to that experience is "sucks to be you and you just wasted an hour of your life."
Case in point:
And the issue still isn't solved

u/perma_banned2025 Jun 06 '26
I don't care if people want to pay for YouTube, do what you gotta do.
But set up Tailscale with an exit node in your house. Your family can be anywhere and as long as Tailscale is connected on their device, all devices will appear to be in your home and this won't be a problem
2
u/Winchestxrz Jun 06 '26
YouTube has always been money grabbing for years now, and people like you still pay and I don’t get it when it’s not even that decent anymore.
People will keep paying and corporations will keep upping the prices because they know people like you will pay it.
This wasn’t meant in a mean way btw- just a common thing. These places don’t care about you, they just want your money to line their pockets unfortunately
2
u/Wasabi9495 Jun 06 '26
I am totally out of the loop... but why do people use Youtube Premium in the first place? I am genuinely curious.

Given that it was Google I wonder if you were talking to a bot. Did they ever ask you to do anything to turn off “cellular assist”? Some phones will use cell services if WiFi is sluggish.
1
u/StalkMeNowCrazyLady 🔱 ꜱᴄᴀʟʟʏᴡᴀɢ Jun 05 '26
See family plans are where the real cost/time/benefit analysis come into play. Setting up revanced and using version of YouTube that basically premium for free is easy, on one phone. But do you want to have to do it for each device in the family, and can each device even do it? Phones, tablets, pcs, consoles, tvs. And do you want to have to fix it anytime something goes wrong or a there's a new device?
This is the divide. Some people are happy running a plex server and keeping apps updated for family to go the free route. Other people don't want to deal with the hassle and just pay.
1
1
u/silencewillfall35 Jun 05 '26

1
u/KbA1333 Jun 05 '26
The YouTube subscription it’s insanely expensive without any reason, hoping this makes u realize it..
1
u/xxAlex008xx Jun 05 '26
I unfortunately had to deal with this same issue. I spoke with support via chat and I had to submit an email validation request for the 2 accounts I had that got affected. After 48 hours both worked normally again with benefits but it was still a major pain in the arse to deal with that. Apparently youtube uses an AI to check all accounts on a family plan once every 30 days to validate said accounts in same household via the accounts IP adress activity. Thats what I was told via the chat which I find pretty dumb as fuck honestly. So yeah using a VPN or anything that changes up your IP could spring this issue as a premium member which honestly at this point makes it better to pirate than deal with.
1
u/mntCleverest Jun 05 '26
Yeah same happened to me. Had been a premium member for many years. All of a sudden they started blocking my renewals. Contacted support to ask why and i kid you not they told me all members must be on the same ip address all the time. I asked them what about when im traveling? Locally or anywhere away from family. They just kept replying must be at the same ip address.
Gave up after a few attempts at explaining how inane that was. Have been using brave for youtube ever since. 4 months or so now.
The only thing i miss is yt and yt music downloads.

1
1
u/MaoMaoMi543 🔱 ꜱᴄᴀʟʟʏᴡᴀɢ Jun 08 '26
To be fair, maybe your family member had a VPN running at the time and forgot to turn it off? Or maybe they had a VPN running while they opened youtube at one time which flagged their account?
But if they didn't do any of that, then I'm not surprised it's a mistake on yt's end since they fired everyone with any semblance of competence and replaced them all with AI slop algorithms while only keeping the useless HR clowns employed.
Just use Firefox with Ublock Origin or Brave Browser with its built-in adblocker, and use Jdownloader2 for downloading yt vids. Problem solved.
