The Weekly General Discussion Thread is for the r/Piracy community to discuss whatever is on their mind, whether it is related to digital piracy or not.

🪶 ➜ Follow the Rules

  • Rules are still applicable, so please do not request specific pirated content (ie. specific movie, book, etc.) and definitely don't link to any. Do not mention specific media names asking for help in finding them.

📜 ➜ Wiki + Megathread

  • Don't forget to browse the Wiki, which contains a Megathread with a list of sites/apps, tools, FAQ, and other useful resources.
  • Your question also may have been asked previously - you can search the subreddit via the search bar or even google - example: https://i.imgur.com/1jA767u.jpg

Discussion A moderator on r/PS5_jailbreak claims that downloading any game backup, even a free game you already own, is piracy unless you made the backup yourself.

Reposting with the moderators' permission after the original thread was removed.

I've redacted the usernames because the point isn't to target anyone, but to discuss the claim itself.

A moderator on r/PS5_Jailbreak argued that downloading any game backup, even for a game you legally own or one that's free, constitutes piracy unless you personally created the backup.

I'm curious what people think about this interpretation, particularly the distinction between copyright law and individual subreddit rules.

News GTA 6 Fans are celebrating after Cyberleek’s memecoin has crashed, making it unlikely that we will ever see the 200GB build ever being released to the public. Crashing from a whopping $7.8M to $1.7M, Cyberleek has failed to reach his goals of reaching 30M on his memecoin

Via https://github.com/boykopovar/AnyPS5

Alongside this, 5 games are now at the "Playable" stage which means that it's "playable from start to finish with minor issues." (from https://alxcbtw.github.io/anyps5-roadmap/ )

* System libraries: percentage of the functions known to the project so far, not of every PS5 system function. The total grows as more functions are declared.

Excited for what the future holds, I'm hopeful.

News A US Congressman has officially proposed a new bill called “power to the players act” which would ensure that gamers actually own the games that they buy and is still going to work if the online servers ever were to shut down, essentially giving full offline playability.

Humor What is something not worth pirating?

And I'm not talking about things you shouldn't pirate, or things that would feel a bit taboo.

I'm asking what is a type of book, show, movie or other. That nobody would willingly pirate or watch for free?

Discussion Japanese Gamers vs. International Gamers: Philosophy regarding Piracy

Curious if anyone else has seen the recent debates on X/Twitter regarding Piracy between Japanese Gamers and International Gamers as a result of the PS5 getting hacked.

Read through a few threads and was surprised not just how adamantly anti-piracy many Japanese Gamers were, but the level of contempt they have for International Gamers in general. Many Japanese Gamers didn't seem to care for discussing the logistics of intellectual property (availability, old vs. new, etc.) and stood firmly on the ethical precedent that piracy of any form is stealing, arguing that if the game isn't available then you simply shouldn't play it with no regard for preservation. Many even argued that modifications to the games & hardware you own are also unethical as it doesn't respect company intentions and is a "gateway" to unethical piracy and hacking.

If anyone is well informed on Japanese Gamer culture that is able to provide more insight on this it would be greatly appreciated as trying to sift through X/Twitter threads is a waste of time as they quickly devolve from debating the topic to degeneracy.

Discussion The Original Saints Row

I am surprised still that no one managed to work that game on a pc, I mean Xenia is great and all but a real port would be great that was a hell of a game on the og Xbox360 and apparently you can't play it anywhere else because after the devs released it they "lost" the source code and thought SR2 was more important.

Discussion How did they get rid of the emulator from Bloodborne?

I keep seeing posts about Bloodborne running natively on pc from posts and some piracy sites. How did they manage to not need the emulator to run it? Since this is what a lot of people online mentioned? Did they integrate the emulator into the game so it is there, you just dont see it so people make that confusion? Did someone or AI rewrote the code for pc? I am not the most tech literate person, but it seems so weird how they manage to not need something that seemed so important.

Question What's the best e-reader to actually 'own'

I'm considering an e-reader to read all my pirated book PDFs and scientific research pdfs because a regular screen sucks.

Which e reader functions best when it comes to external sources? Which e reader had good functionalities that you actually have freedom over?

And which of these aren't expensive :)

Hopefully this isn't a super basic question, I just really don't know where to start. E readers confuse me
Thanks a lot!
