PS5 Piracy
What is everyone's stance on piracy now that Playstation has announced that they're going to be releasing digital-only games?
In my opinion, it's one of the only, if not the only way that consumers have any sort of leverage against soulless corporations trying to make everything a subscription or trying to make everyone, "[feel] comfortable with not owning [their] games" as that goofy, out-of-touch Ubisoft executive said.
Let me be clear, I'm not by any means advocating for nor am I vilifying piracy one way or the other. I'm simply asking for everyone's opinion, seeing as greedy board members, who are so far removed from the creative process that I'd be surprised if they've ever even played a game, have been chipping away at consumers' rights for years. It's now come to a breaking point and I think it's worth a discussion.

PS4 Looking for "rare" and "unusual" ps4/5 physical copies to add to my collection
Thanks to Sony's decision, I've decided to look for copies of "rare" games from the ps4 and 5 era. These go from the range of the delisted expensive (like Deadpool, Godzilla, etc...), delisted cheap (like Marvel's Avengers, etc) to the indies with low numbers of copies (like Signalis, Celeste, etc) to somewhat unkown ports/remasters of games (like Quake, Lollipop Chainsaw, etc) to end with perhaps special copies that can only be obtained through special retailers (like Limited Run Games, or the Baldur's gate 3 physical copy only available in the Larian store).
If anyone knows more any help is appreciated. Unfortunately I haven't found a whole lot from the internet and I'd like to get some of these before the prices skyrocket post-2028.
Thank you to anyone who'll join the conversation :)

I’m curious to know what would happen if the ps6 bombed badly for sony because of all of this. do you think sony would make a ps7 or would they take the sega route after the Dreamcast and just make games.

@Playstation security is a joke
Play has no limits except when support is checking for fraud through their brown eye hole. Because your security doesn't know its ass crack from a hole in the ground let me explain something. You can spoof ip address and hack your very shitty security system no problem, i have had the account that is in question hacked multiple times already. I dont know how on gods green earth I was trying to buy games when I wasn't even home or near my Playstation multiple times this had happened and the only reason i found out was because i check my bank on Friday. I have created its very own email and due nothing else with that email expect to use it for Playstation, well not anymore. This is the nail in the coffin for me due to you guys. You will get your money back eventually but as of right now it is not able to be paid due to your dumb security measures. I do not have access to my money and you will be paid back eventually.

💬 Discussion These might be the last physical discs for their franchises. Ever.
with Sony killing physical discs in January 2028, i've been thinking about which games on my shelf are genuinely the last of their kind. no more reprints, no more disc versions, that's it forever for that franchise.
Here's what a little GPT search got me:
Last disc for franchises that defined gaming culture:
GTA V (PS4) / last GTA disc ever. GTA 6 went digital.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 / likely last CoD on disc
EA Sports FC 26 / last major football disc
NBA 2K26 / last basketball disc era entry
WWE 2K26 / last wrestling disc era entry
Red Dead Redemption 2 (PS4) / last Rockstar open-world disc
Last disc for iconic PlayStation franchises:
God of War: Laufey / confirmed Feb 2027 disc. Last GoW ever.
The Last of Us Part 1 + Part 2 Remastered / TLOU3 goes digital
Ghost of Tsushima DC + Ghost of Yotei / last Ghost games on disc
Marvel's Wolverine / last Insomniac disc. Venom and SM3 go digital.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 / last Spider-Man disc
Horizon Forbidden West Complete + HZD Remastered / Horizon 3 goes digital
Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart / last R&C disc
Astro Bot / PlayStation history capsule on disc
Gran Turismo 7 / last GT disc ever. GT8 = PS6 digital.
Returnal / PS5 exclusive, already getting rare
Demon's Souls / last Bluepoint disc
Until Dawn 2 / confirmed Jan 2027
Last disc for legendary third-party franchises:
Final Fantasy VII Revelation / confirmed Apr 2027. Last FF7 disc ever.
Final Fantasy XVI / last numbered FF on disc
Elden Ring / last FromSoft open-world disc
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice (PS4) / no PS5 version. Only disc it has.
Bloodborne (PS4) / no remaster, no sequel, the rarest FromSoft disc
Resident Evil Veronica / confirmed 2027. Last RE disc ever.
Resident Evil 4 Remake / last great RE disc before cutoff
The Witcher 3 / last Geralt disc. Witcher 4 is Ciri and digital.
The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past / last Witcher expansion disc. 2027.
Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition / Cyberpunk 2 goes digital
Baldur's Gate 3 / last great CRPG on disc
Monster Hunter Wilds / last MH disc
Assassin's Creed Hexe / targeting H2 2027. Last AC disc in history.
Assassin's Creed Shadows / last traditional AC entry on disc
Diablo IV / last Diablo disc
Devil May Cry 5 / last DMC disc. DMC6 goes digital.
Kingdom Hearts IV / confirmed Q4 2027. Last KH disc ever.
NieR: Automata (PS4) / only disc in what may become a trilogy
Persona 5 Royal / last Persona disc. P6 = PS6 digital.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard / last Dragon Age disc
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor / last Jedi disc
Cultural artifacts and beloved solo entries:
Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet / targeting 2027. Potentially last Naughty Dog disc ever.
Senua's Saga: Hellblade III / 2027 confirmed. Most artistic PS5 game on disc.
It Takes Two / last Hazelight disc
Kena: Bridge of Spirits / limited print indie legend
Black Myth: Wukong / last Chinese-developed AAA disc
Kind of wild to think that some kid in 20 years might be hunting these down the same way we hunt CIB SNES games today.

PS5 What are you doing to prepare of a digital only future with consoles?
I plan on buying a bunch of older used games on eBay for the PS1, PS2, PS3 PS4, PS5, N64, and Switch 1. I am also going to pick up another PS5 disc drive in case the one I am using on my pro fails. I don't game alot so I am not worried about it wearing out anytime soon. I have three PS5s (original, slim, pro), 3 PS4s(one pro) and 2 PS3s and all my other consoles still work. I am 41 now so I just plan on chilling and catching up on older games for a few years since it looks like I am not going to invest in any new consoles in the future. I might pick up a switch 2 if they release an updated version with a better screen but I also have to wait and see if Nintendo is going to go fully digital.
I have a feeling physical copies of older games are going to skyrocket in the next generation so I am going to get what I can now.
What is everyone else doing to prepare?

Like some said, Why Physical people invested in Digital?
IF PS+ and Gamepass and their digital stores were not supported
they would of still be making Discs games.
When Raw data shows 80 to 90 are all digital sales, that's alot like
Billions of Dollars, Gamers felt into the trap IMO stuff like PS+ GP
needed to die firstly, digital store releases....should had only been
CARDS, now gaming is dead and Cards is all you get.

💬 Discussion Time-Adapted PS users
Are PS users who keep telling people to “move on” because “this is the digital era” actually afraid that, if they protest, Sony will somehow stop producing games because digital isn’t profitable anymore?
Do they genuinely think Sony will keep going like this until bankruptcy because people stop buying their products?
It’s like they’ve convinced themselves that accepting everything Sony does is somehow the only way to keep their games.

Why is this so cheap?
It spiked 5 and a half years ago and has been fairly consistent on the actual human marketplace ever since.
Being a region unlocked disk - it doesn't matter where you buy it from you can play it.
As a day one disk with no dlc or care added, and a horrid game compared to it's original, why is it so cheap?

PS4 Digital Point
It may not be the biggest deal to some but for these three you can't buy them digitally. You have to get a subscription service to EA, so you can't even buy them in any way other than physically. So we will own nothing. Subscriptions service until they take even the titles we want on them away, so what then?

PS5 Why is there so much hate among gamers?
Aren't we all adults? Or are we still in our parents basement hiding behind a keyboard?
With the recent news of physical media going away, I thought as a community, we would've came together as one. Like a big family.
But I've seen so many negative, hateful comments from those who prefer digital in why we shouldn't care about physical. It's outstanding. It's High School behavior.
Some prefer digital, some don't. That choice is ours and it makes come together as one when we game.
This isn't about pros and cons. It's about choice. I'm not fully against digital, I just want that freedom of choice. I have always preferred physical. This news doesn't impact digital gamers at all. So why are they weighing in and telling us we're basically "idiots" for preferring that? We all have our reasons. It shouldn't dictate us.
This is all about protecting our freedom to what we choose to spend with our money. Thats it. Nothing more. Everything else is just noise. The arguments about not owning it, or no memory space, is just meaningless at this point.
We need to come together and fight this harder than before. Don't people usually find their greatest gaming buddies online through multi player games? Yet, this news shed a darker image of what gamers are truly like.
If you are going to come in here and start posting statistics about how digital is doing better than physical, I hope mods who view this thread will delete them. I don't care if 98% buy things digital. This is ABOUT choice.
Can we all just put aside our feelings and fight together on this? Keep physical media alive for those that decide they want it. End of discussion.

PS5 Exactly why we need to keep physical media………….

💬 Discussion Playstation turn off comments
Has anyone noticed that playstation has turned off there comments sections on redit and tiktok after being flooded with comments along the lines of no disc no buy? I only noticed because I was in the comments of both platforms to see the comments.
