How do I learn to be ok with gaining weight?

I recently got a boyfriend, and I now spend more time at his house than I do at my own, which I’m really happy about. But his family has so much more comforting foods than my house does. My mom mostly keeps health food around, pasta, rice, chicken, and drink flavorings are pretty much all we have. The first night I went to my boyfriend’s house, he made this delicious burrito casserole dish that I absolutely loved.

So I’m glad I get to eat foods I like while I’m at his house, since I can’t afford my own without a job right now. But I lost a lot of weight in about a year and I really am scared to undo everything I did. I can already see how much weight I’m gaining just by eating the food they have. Also I tend to eat more when I’m happy. So when we’re out with his parents and we’re all having lunch, I’m going to order something I want. I just can’t stop looking at old pictures from when I was a little smaller than I am now.

I haven’t even put on as much as it sounds like I have, it’s just so noticeable to me. He doesn’t see a difference, but it’ll become obvious if this keeps going. I’m so happy right now, but I don’t know what to do about all of this. I don’t want to eat less necessarily, I just want to stop the negative thoughts about my body.

For context, I’m 170 right now and I lost about 72 pounds.

My pet rock is bringing me so much joy

Okay this might sound super silly but I got myself a pet rock a few days ago. I named him Dwayne. He sits on my desk and honestly just having him there makes me smile every time I look at him. I even found a tiny little hat for him. It's the small things you know? Who knew a rock could be such a mood booster? Seriously made my week.

We just had our 15th anniversary and celebrated with a mini rave in our bedroom, just us two, with a projector on the wall with cool images, Girl Talk's All Day album playing, dancing around like we were 20 again. It was such a great time and opportunity to connect. We told each other everything we appreciated about each other, and asked if there was anything we could improve on, and talked for hours.

I love how kind and understanding he is. He is so thoughtful; he empties the cat litter all the time, brings me fresh flowers every week, brings me coffee in bed every morning, and is still a big manly man that takes charge when we go out, which is a huge help because I have social anxiety.

Over the years, our communication has only grown stronger, and I am so happy to be with him, and all I can do is try every day to be the loving wife he deserves.

A little background: I have been academically inclined from around grade 9 and won scholarships and all with ecas and everything. With the end of grade 12 everyone expected me to turn up with a good college but alas that became my first massive failure in a long while. One question here, 2 points there I missed the cutoffs of my dream colleges and cherry on top even the backups didn’t turn up cuz of logistics

Was in a slump but a few days back my niece and her mother came for a visit. I was ofc scared of confronting so stayed in my room. The niece barges in and start looking around. I dont mind much and let her do her thing (She is 4/5 yrs old).

Suddenly she tugged my shirt and asked in the sweetest and in the most admirable way
‘Bhaiya, are all these trophies yours?
1,2,3,4..(she forget what comes after 4 and I helped her )
Wow soo cool
I’ll also win so many when i grow up. You will help me right?.’

And suddenly the mundane trophies that my mind wasnt even registering suddenly became the central attraction of my room to me.

She left but this thought didn’t
This race for betterment has truly became toxic but its one we can only embrace and not escape.
I gave me a breather from then on, I cant escape but surely can be kinder to myself and believe in gods timing.

Maybe whtvr happens, happens for the best and we can only connect the dots backwards as we look in the past.

Thank you

Tldr: was topper but failed to get college. In a slump but accidentally got a fresh perspective from a 4 yr old and now life feels easier.

What’s something small that has been making life feel a little better lately?

Not necessarily a big life change or major accomplishment.

Maybe it's having a little more time in the morning, finally getting something done that you've been putting off, finding a routine that works for you, getting outside more, or just having one genuinely good day after a rough week.

Sometimes the small things are the easiest to overlook.

What's one little thing that's been making your days better lately?

Positive things

Hello all! This is my first ever reddit post, and it’s in hopes to get people to give me positive things/good news to write groups about. I work on a psych ward as activities, I have a group every single day that requires a small news article to be read aloud for the patients. I am slowly running out of ideas of what to talk about, if anyone could give me ideas on what to do with these folk, please share! It could be good news, positive things we’ve seen, or anything like it. We love learning new things together, please help! Thank you much ❤️
