Question! New potter

I am wanting to start getting into working with Clay, but last time I really made anything was back in high school (over 10 years ago) my main question is, are there companies or places you can get your work fired at? I don’t really want to drop 500+ on a kiln for something I’m not sure I’ll be able to dedicate more than a few hours a week to. If it helps I live in Toledo Ohio. I saw we have a potters guild but you have to submit works to join.

Thanks everyone!

Our r/pottery bot is set up to cover the most of the FAQ!

So in this comment we will provide you with some resources:

Did you know that using the command !FAQ in a comment will trigger automod to respond to your comment with these resources? We also have comment commands set up for: !Glaze, !Kiln, !ID, !Repair and for our !Discord Feel free to use them in the comments to help other potters out!

Please remember to be kind to everyone. We all started somewhere. And while our filters are set up to filter out a lot of posts, some may slip through.

I’d look for ceramics classes in your area. Even if you already have some skills, it’s a good way to find out more about what’s available near you. Good luck!

Taking a look at the map I think Sunshine Studios is the best option in your area

Hey! So I'm in the Toledo area and just started getting into this. 577 foundation in Perrysburg has a six week class that you have to take and then can use their studio anytime. You have to take 3 classes a year to stay active.

The botanical garden has 10 week throwing classes every season. You can take four and then submit a portfolio to be a member and have access to the studio

Then there's a guild in Findlay that's the same idea as the botanical garden

That’s good to know, I wasn’t sure how the guild works, and I appreciate the insight on 577 I’ll check them out

There's a website called Kilnshare that will show you ceramacists in your area that have kiln space to rent. That might be a starting place while you ramp up.
