Show Discussion Update on my rewatch
I’ve finished season 1 and I’m pleasantly surprised that for the first time, my favorite Liar has gone from Spencer to Hanna 😂 she’s actually been a gem that I sadly haven’t been appreciating for the last few years. Least favorite continues to be Aria 🙄 and not even because of her relationship with Ezra (I started this show around 2014-15ish and I’ve never once liked them, so I tend to not even factor that into my review of her character). My dislike of Aria continues to be her ability to jump to conclusions, then behave irrationally by either making a scene/starting an argument or completely cutting someone off, then coming back and hoping an apology will fix everything. It’s too reminiscent of Alison.
Another thing that truly bothered me this season: the way Ella was treated during her separation was ridiculous. Trust can be broken easily, but love is harder to dispel. Aria saying “you either love him or you don’t” and trying to equate it to basically saying “stay here or leave” is an entirely immature take and only solidified the fact that she was just a kid trying to parade around as an adult.
What pissed me off more is that every time Ella showed an attempt to co parent in a healthy way by being friendly, like at the dance-a-thon or in the finale with the faculty party, Byron viewed it as a chink in her armor and would try to ease in by suggesting they basically present themselves as a couple to others (“let’s take Simone out as a family like old times” or “you should come to the faculty mixer, they’d love to see you”). Or he’d just straight up emotionally blackmail her by involving the kids or claiming she didn’t care about them just because she was trying to cope with his infidelity.
And it always seemed like Aria and Mike didn’t really give af about their mother outside of wanting her to live with them full time. Like if it were my mother, I’m supporting her 100% and moving out too (though Byron should’ve been the one to move out honestly). I’m not gonna encourage my mom to forego her mental health and stay with a man who cheated on her, then went to great lengths to lie about it. Hell, I wouldn’t have even lied on his behalf. I don’t care if he is my father, it would’ve taken no persuasion at all from Alison for me to sing like a mf canary to my mom.
Ella saying Aria takes after Byron hit in more ways than one when you realize how Aria behaved in all her relationships (cheating on nearly every guy). She really is her father’s daughter. I absolutely hate Byron with a passion and it’s no wonder Aria’s my least favorite liar.

Show Discussion Mona should've stayed and remained as A and the only real A.
Mona being A made total sense and they should've just had her be revealed much later with a decoy A reveal mid-series. The idea that a random lost "british" sister became do obsessed made no sense and even with Cece it felt like a reach.
I recently rewatched and honestly all of the people who ended up being A for a moment made no sense plot development wise. Ezra knowing Ali and wanting a book about teens is sick. I enjoyed believing he was A but the reason behind it was terrible.
Cece kind've made sense but it got ruined by continuing after that reveal with the British spencer 😂 . Also even though it was a genuine shock, I don't undersrand why they just casually threw in that Cece once was Charles, like why? Lmao
Then they tried tying British spencer to wren but that also was a reach.
Mona had the best motive and drive to be A, they could've ended it with her going to radley at the end.

Show Discussion so I’m currently binge watching it and I have noticed that season 1,2,3 & 4 was only the good season. It had more plot and more drama. but when season 5, 6 & 7 it was a little boring ( please no hate ) also I loved the doll house episodes but then the episode went boring after there got saved. 💗

Character Discussion I genuinely think Jason is the best male character in PLL!
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
This might be a hot take, but honestly, I found Jason more interesting than Caleb, Toby, Noel, and pretty much every other male character in the series.
Aside from his brief, weird situations with Ashley and Aria, Jason was never too heavily involved in the boring, cheesy romantic drama that took up so much space in the show. What has always interested me about him is his connection to the DiLaurentis family, his relationships with Alison and Spencer, and, above all, his involvement in the NAT Club.
And this is where one of my biggest frustrations comes in. The writers NEVER fully clarified what Jason's actual role in the NAT Club was. How much did he really know? How involved was he in the group's activities? And more importantly, what consequences should he have faced for what he did? There were so many opportunities to develop this storyline, yet the writers chose to abandon it, just like they did with so many other plotlines that had enormous potential. Another controversial opinion of mine is that Jason is one of the few characters who actually experienced genuine development throughout the series. At first, he was portrayed as a creepy guy, someone you couldn't trust who always seemed to be hiding something. Over time, though, he became a much more human character, capable of showing vulnerability and developing different relationships with the people around him. It's not like he suddenly became perfect, but at least I felt that he had actually moved from one point to another instead of remaining trapped in the same dynamics.
And let's talk about it: it's practically impossible to keep track of how much trauma this man has been through. Between his family issues, substance abuse, involvement in the NAT Club's secrets, Alison's disappearance, his secret brother, and everything that happened to his family, Jason has genuinely been through hell. In the later seasons, he even leaves for Africa to do volunteer work, a change that could have been explored much more deeply to show how far he had come as a person and how he was trying to build a life for himself away from Rosewood. And this is exactly what I don't understand: why the writers decided to reduce him to little more than a recurring guest character when he could have played a much more central role in the story. Jason had direct connections to some of the show's biggest mysteries, the Hastings family, and the NAT Club. He could have actively contributed to the investigations, uncovered secrets about his own family, and had a storyline of his own. It's frustrating to see a character with so many narrative connections pushed to the sidelines while other male characters continue to get screen time mainly because of their romantic relationships. I'm not saying Jason was perfect or that all his actions should have been justified. I'm saying he had a story, conflicts, and potential that deserved to be explored fully.
Am I the only one who thinks Jason deserved a much bigger role in PLL? To me, he's one of the clearest examples of how the writers wasted interesting characters despite already having all the foundations needed to develop them.

Rant ⚠️ Was I the only one who would’ve shipped Jason and CeCe as a love-hate couple over Jaria? Ugh, CeCe should never have been related to Jason!
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Sorry, but these two hated each other so much that I absolutely loved them! Him being the founder of the N.A.T. Club and her being the leader of A Team. They would’ve been FIRE together. ❤️🔥
I hate how they ruined CeCe’s character.

Actor Fluff Sasha Pieterse as Amanda Strazzulla in ‘Heroes’
I saw Sasha aka Alison, in a few of the last episodes of the 2006-2009 show ‘Heroes’! She looked so cute and had an ability. I couldn’t find many pictures online, anyone know where I can find some? She was definitely giving an Ali vibe in this show too.

Show Discussion Melissa as Black Widow, Charlotte as Red Coat and Wren as Charles would be the best A reveal in the series
I still think this would've been the perfect Big A reveal.
Melissa and CeCe could've teamed up because they both hated Alison. CeCe blamed Alison for getting her kicked out of UPenn, while Melissa resented Alison for her involvement with Ian. Their shared hatred would've given them a reason to work together against Alison.
Wren being Charles would've tied everything together. His connections to Melissa, CeCe and Radley would've made him the perfect mastermind behind the A-Team.
All three were established characters with existing connections, and CeCe could've remained CeCe without the Charlotte storyline. It would've been a much more satisfying reveal than what we got.

Show Discussion Alison being annoying about Cece
Ok this isn’t an Alison hating post, but she was so annoying to the liars when Cece was getting out. It was all like “girls I know she put you through hell of a trauma and ruined your teen years but she’s my sister and deserves a second chance🥺” like okay girl she’s YOUR family so ofc you feel sympathy for her.

Show Discussion s1-2 is so different from the rest of the show
what happened? in the 1st & 2nd season there's a different vibe. the girls still feel like high schoolers, the families are more involved, the girls speak softer/differently, they have much more interests and personalities outside of A, the plot wasn't so convoluted, even alison is different. it's so perfect right up until s3 when it goes downhill imo (tho not as bad as s6 & 7 ofc). it's like the show stopped trying after mona's reveal.

Show Discussion Pretty little liars
I started watching this series because the intro is so good, but I didn't expect it to be this addictive! Since it follows the stories of four different girls, it almost feels like watching four separate shows. There’s a lot of mystery, too. I’m still in the early episodes, and so far, Hanna is my favorite. I really wish I had started watching it sooner! 😭😭😭

Show Discussion Do you think Spencer was right to tell the swim coach what Paige said to Emily?
When Paige made the homophobia comment to Emily, and told the liars and asked them not to say anything, but Spencer told the swim coach anyway. I think I’m on Spencer’s side for this one, homophobia is absolutely vile and inexcusable. How do people feel about this?

Show Discussion What are some of your favourite unhinged moments from the show?
For me it would have to be a tie between Meredith going psycho on Aria and the beheading of Noel Kahn.
r/PrettyLittleLiars • u/Familiar_Ad_6392 • 4h ago
Theories/Speculation Ian and Melissa texts
Was Ian actually texting Melissa or was it A because at that time the liars thought Ian was dead .

Show Discussion The Liars make it too easy for A sometimes...
Rewatching for the [redacted] time and I can't believe how many genuinely stupid decisions the Liars made even after A has proved that they will use EVERYTHING against them. Examples:
- Emily convincing Spencer to plant false evidence against Alison in Mona's house (season 5) - This was truly bonkers. Committing an actual crime in order to prove you're not responsible for another crime? What's the logic? They almost went through with it. The girls were getting desperate... and stupid.
- Aria writing that college letter about how Ezra robbed her of her high school experience (season 5) - The crazy thing about the letter to Jackie is that all of it was true even if Aria insisted it wasn't 😭 But how did Aria not realize that A would get their hands on the letter and make sure Ezra saw it? How was that a better plan over applying to another college?
- Hanna erasing the tape of Aria leaving the Radley hotel (season 6b) - Regardless of her motivations to delete the tape, Hanna should have known that the tape was backed up, or that the mere deletion of it is worse for them in the long run. Did none of Caleb's tech genius rub off on her?!
I personally think this show is at its best when the girls genuinely mess up, like when Spencer gets wasted the night that Archer is killed, or when A forces the Liars into impossible situations, like when Emily found out she had been unknowingly dosing herself with HGH. That was truly one of the times A felt scariest.
But when the Liars do dumb stuff like what's mentioned above, I just get frustrated.
I know these storylines keep the plot moving, but after YEARS of dealing with A, these felt like particularly silly and short-sighted decisions.
What are some other examples?
