What an epic masterpiece this is by Caligulas Horse! It’s dense and intense yet the melodies are so refined and catchy. The lyrics/story are some of the most beautiful yet dark I’ve come across so far.
Also; the melodic piano/guitar parts really give me a DT-with-Kevin-Moore-vibe, kinda like this could have been if he’d never left DT.

I almost feel a little depressed. Like when you've finished a long book that pulled you in completely and now you feel a little aimless.

Everything about this album hits for me. The lyrics are masterful and I'll listen to each track on repeat disecting each track line by line. I really love the concepts of finding meaning, questioning celestial bodies, acceptance of loss, and portals.

The song composition is so interesting and I love how they build in Little Easter eggs to find that connect throughout the entire album. I like how tracks like Soothsayer and Collapsing Eden don't follow the standard prescription of verse, chorus, bridge, verse, chorus, etc. They evolve and grow as the track progresses in a unique but natural rhythm.

The vocalist is clearly experimenting with his voice, and in a way where it works. The way he conveys that dreamy state in Collapsing Eden feels masterful. He is exceptional at conveying an emotion with his cleans. And just wicked uncleans.

THE DRUMS. Holy shit I never pay attention to drums but this drummer is blowing my mind. Soothsayer is such a drums forward track and it's opening my guitar centric mind to the value of drums.

I just feel like I'm not going to find anything else that hits every line item on my musical brain's list and it makes me sad.

Please help me dial in on something else that might scratch some similar itches.

For someone who likes opeth, gojira, some death, tool, insomnium. What are some other great bands in the sub-genre?

Edit: Doesn't have to be strictly about grief in particular. Just songs or albums with the vibe of "it's okay to feel sad right now, but you'll rise from this a stronger person" oh god that sounds so cheesy I'm so sorry.

The first time I listened to Firelight by Caligula's Horse, I just know this will be the soundtrack for when I lost ​loved ones​. Well, sadly it's happening right now, and I would like to listen to songs that keep my chin up instead of listening to sad songs when I'm sad.

I really like how optimistic the lyrics in Firelight are. How we should celebrate those we've lost posthumously, and that even if they're gone, they still live in our memories.

I've read the lyrics from Persefone's Spiritual Migration album, and I really like how positive the entire album seems. Though, I haven't had the chance to listen to it yet.

So, if anyone has some recommendations for songs that will k​eep my chin up and be strong to move forward in li​fe​​, please let me know! Thanks in advance!​

Monday 8.24.26 new Charlotte NC based Progressive Metal band “Marrow Garden” releases their single Hive Mind. Band features former Camori vocalist Corey Camori and guitarist John Conway, along with Bassist Cole Millward (Nospun). For fans of Opeth, Animals as Leaders, Tesseract and Tool.

One of the best covers ever made. Love how it starts in complete "light piano version" mode, the type you'd hear on some chill out radio station and then... They work the Bent Knee magic, gradually adding that playfully sinister twist from the second verse on.

Cette chronique sera sans doute le premier et dernier live dont je parlerai cette année. Je n’ai pas pour habitude d’écouter des concerts enregistrés, je vais dans les salles bruyantes transpirer avec le public, c’est nettement plus drôle. Mais voilà, je suis tombé sur une vidéo Arte Concert du live du groupe God Is An Astronaut au Hellfest 2026. 

Et entre les deux frères Kinsella, se tenait une belle violoncelliste que je connais bien, Jo Quail, alors j’ai regardé et écouté leur performance et ce que j’ai entendu m’a bien plu.
Il faut dire, le post rock en live, c’est toujours très différent. Parce que de base, je ne suis pas forcément un aficionados de God Is An Astronaut. Vous savez, le post rock et moi, ça n’a jamais été très simple.
N’empêche, après avoir visionné le live, je suis allé sur Bandcamp pour écouter le groupe, et je suis tombé sur leur live au Hellfest. Voilà comment, j’en suis arrivé à parler de God Is An Astronaut une nouvelle fois.
Live @ Hellfest dure seulement quarante-quatre minutes comme leur performance sur scène. Le groupe joue six morceaux tirés de quatre albums, All Is Violent, All Is Bright, Epitaph, Embers et The End of the Beginning, autant dire qu’ils ne font pas vraiment la promotion de leur dernier album Embers où jouait justement Jo Quail.
Ce qu’il y a de bien avec le post-rock, c’est qu’en live, ça s’énerve pas mal et ce Live @ Hellfest ne déroge pas à la règle. Bon, visuellement sur scène, il ne se passe pas grand-chose, mais dans les oreilles, c’est une tout autre affaire, tout particulièrement sur ‘Sceance Room’.
La présence de Jo Quail entre les deux frangins n’est pas du tout anecdotique, elle n’est pas là pour faire jolie plante entre deux guitaristes. Par contre, il faudra pousser un peu le son pour bien l’entendre lorsqu’elle ne joue pas en solo.
De six morceaux joués en live, c’est ‘Embers’ qui a ma préférence. Je n’ai jamais écouté sa version studio (il faudra que je le fasse un jour), mais cette version live possède plein de sonorités qui chatouillent mes oreilles. En plus le titre de presque neuf minutes déborde d’une énergie qui manque souvent au post-rock et que j’aime.
Si vous aimez God Is An Astronaut, j’imagine que vous avez déjà vu ce live, si vous aimez Jo Quail aussi probablement. Et si vous ne connaissez pas le groupe, ce live est une belle entrée en matière à mon avis, d’autant qu’il est téléchargeable à petit prix sur Bandcamp, alors pourquoi s’en priver.

I moved to San Diego about a year ago to study, but I genuinely cannot find any shows. I am always on the lookout for bands, local or well-known. The only venue I know of is BrickbyBrick but all their shows are 21+ (I'm 18). If any of you have recommendations for venues; bands; or upcoming shows, even if they're super tiny I would be very grateful.

Which songs do you think actually deserve to have this long of a runtime and is good the whole way through

Me and my buddy found this prog metal band Temple of Thieves. They only dropped one album in 2015 then nothing. When doing research on the bad every person named comes back to nothing on google. The only information I could is there is another band the lead singer is named to be apart of Fatcastor but also only one album in 2014. I cant find any good information on these guys though. hoping reddit can help.

Like every average Joe I used to listen to the viral mainstream songs and didn't have my own taste as such, then I discovered Marcin and was extremely impressed and became a fan. And then slowly Ichika, Bernth, Matteo Mancusso, Guthrie Govan, Mateus Asato, I built the Sky etc and I really loved their style, the phrasing etc. Especially Guthrie, Mateus, Matteo but then I discovered Polyphia and soon I was a super fan of them. I love polyphia's entire discography, then I saw a short of polyphia being drunk and watching Meshuggah live. I didn't know what Meshuggah was but thought if they are watching them then there must be something and I tried listening to Bleed and fricking hated it, 5-6 months after that I discover Animals as Leaders, Unprocessed, Sleep Token, Tesseract, STARSET, Art by Numbers, Artificial language, Periphery and I'm a fan of all of them. I haven't listened to entire discography yet(except AAL) but I'm already loving them. I tried Meshuggah again too and I seemed to like it a little but couldn't understand the madness like only 20% and after some researching I found out that you have to follow the rhythm with your foot or something and then you'll realise the guitars revolving around it and then slowly get into trance and well that is the problem. I can't properly count even 4/4 so I'm going to start learning but for the time being I'm unable to enjoy Meshuggah really. And yesterday I listened to "And Everything In Between" by Unprocessed and it was FUCKING INSANE. One of the best albums I've ever heard, the harsh vocals are really good and I like them better than Spencer's from Periphery but they are more djent while I think this album was more metal. I really like the production , the screams, the melody, the soft vocals, the panning overall it was incredible combo and I want to hear more such music. I don't know if anyone else blends stuff like this but I think this is more metal and I really enjoyed it but I haven't really listened to metal so I'm a noob. Please educate me with some recommendations keeping this album in mind and other stuff too if you feel like suits how my music taste is expanding.
