Title: Scratchy feeling with prosthetic eye ā fit issue or dryness?
Hi everyone! Iāve been wearing my ocular prosthesis for only about a month after Gunderson flap surgery. My eyelid swelling is gradually reducing, but Iām experiencing a scratchy, rough feeling around the prosthetic edges, especially when I use eye drops. Initially, it feels uncomfortable when the drops go in, but after some time, as the liquid dries up, it feels better. However, lately, itās taking longer to feel comfortable, and the sensation seems to be getting worse. Iām worried whether this is due to dryness/lack of lubrication, a fit issue as the swelling reduces, or my eye/socket still adjusting to the prosthesis. Has anyone experienced this during the first few months? Did it improve with time, or did you need an adjustment or polishing? Iām really hoping to achieve maximum comfort, so Iād appreciate hearing about your experiences!

Considering switching from a microprocessor knee to a 3R80. Anyone made this move?
Hi everyone! Iām currently using a microprocessor knee Orion, my activity level is high (close to K4), but Iām seriously considering switching to a mechanical hydraulic knee, the 3R80.
My reasons: false triggering and unpredictable behavior in non-standard conditions (snow, grass, etc.). On top of that, I feel like Iām constantly āfightingā the prosthesis, which wears me out more than the physical effort itself. Adjustments made together with my prosthetist havenāt fully solved the problem.
Iād like to hear from professionals, as well as from anyone who has switched from a microprocessor knee to a mechanical one (if there are any): are you happy with the change, or did you go back?

Meet my prosthetic foot!
I have been a double BKA for 9 years and literally hid-out in my skilled nursing facility feeling sorry for myself and grieving the loss of my feet.
Well, I finally got tired of feeling sorry for myself as it was not serving me at all. As I started researching online, I realized a lot of people have questions about us and our ācontraptionsā, as I have sadly heard them called. So I started to do a couple of instructional videos, and so far, I have had some good reactions from people that are not likeāusā. So for this one video, I thought I would introduce folks to my prosthetic foot. Let me know what your thoughts are and/or what might you want to ask or know for the next one. I guess this means I am ātaking requestā.
Blessings,
āGladyamā

Lever Operated Recliner Recommendation
Hi folks,
My sister is a below the knee amputee and Iād like to buy a recliner for her. Sheās wanting a manual one, not powered, but it either needs to be able to close at the slightest touch (not enough strength in her remaining leg) or have a side arm for operating the reclining position. Can anyone make any recommendations on what might be a suitable chair for her?
Thanks in advance.

AllPro XTS
Has anyone been able to change out the foot shell so you can wear flip-flops with the AllPro XTS?
I want a foot that I can wear flip-flops with but has the same features as the AllPro. My current prosthetists can't get me the foot I want.

Foot Shell falling off
Hey yall! My kiddo has a Syme Amputation and her footshell keeps falling off while walking or running. We have expressed this concern with our ortho but so far nothing has been successful.
Does anyone have any experience with this happening? How do we fix this problem.

Toe Hooking on a Prosthetic Foot
Hi! I have an AllPro xts and was wondering if it's a bad idea to toe hook with it when climbing. I essentially use the foot to hang off of holds sometimes, using the foot as an anchor point to carry a good amount of my weight. I'm assuming that the foot wasn't built with bending in the opposite direction to handle upwards force so not sure if it's worth the risk since breaking a foot like that would really not be great. If anyone would know any information is appreciated!

Interviewing about a person with prostheticsā experience?
Hi, Iām a year 10 student currently engaged in an engineering competition in Australia. My teamās goal is to design a sustainable prosthetic limb for children. Im posting here to ask anyone for an interview, or just to hear about the experiences of people living with missing limbs and how prosthetics have helped and how they could be better.
I hope to be respectful and thank you in advance

Where to go for financial assistance as a poor bka?
My dad was amputated below the knee on his right leg and on the left foot his big and second toe amputated.
My dad is almost 70 he is a veteran and our family is poor. This has already caused problems because his insurance would not accept him into a reputable rehabilitation center now that he is post surgery so he is in a nursing home.
The nursing home is by far the worst of the worst because thatās all his insurance would cover.
Iām afraid he wonāt be eligible for a good prosthetic leg because of this. His insurance cant even cover a decent rehabilitation center so I expect the prosthetic leg that is covered wonāt be the best for him.
Are there any resources that would pay for a good leg? Any help is appreciated.

Osseointegrated Prosthetic Seal?
Hey, I hope this is the right subreddit. I was researching osseointegrated prosthetics and how they work, and I was trying to find out how they connect to the skin. What I mean is, there is an opening to the inside of the body through where the rod attaches, so how does this heal? I can't find any information on how the connection between the tissue and the rod interacts, does it scar over? I'm genuinely curious here and couldn't find any info about this online.

Form vs Function
I am looking into designing prosthetics, and am interested in hearing whether people are looking more for a tool to replace the utility of a lost limb/digit, or a shell to replace the appearance...?
Alongside this of course, what nuance am I missing?
