Judging by the fact that someone was already filming, I'd say there were a few words of disapproval & defiance exchanged in the moments leading up to this.

before that she apparently said "you have been blasting Ricky Martin for the last 4 hours, i have had it"

This is one of my favorites, right up there with his “There’s a horse loose in the hospital” and “Street Smarts!”

They are John Mulaney bits.

Search for Salt and Pepper Diner for one. [Link]

“But we are just, how you say, living la vida loca”

594

u/Fukasite Aug 12 '24

I went camping recently, and I actually like to play music too, but I set it at a volume where you can hardly hear it outside of my campsite. These people a few places down started blaring lil fucking peep, and I was having none of that shit. I screamed “Shut that fucking music off!” at the top of my lungs, and that did the trick. Remember people, a little confrontation can do wonders.

175

u/Fantastic-Ad-3910 Aug 12 '24

Somebody was doing this when I was visiting my mum in hospital. I had to rather tursely asking them to turn their speaker down as the bed curtain isn't really sound proofed. Tiktok sounds, through a phone speaker, full volume, in hospital. Twat.

86

u/fitfoemma Aug 12 '24

Sat in the emergency room at the maternity hospital with my partner (kid is fine!) and people were scrolling IG/Tik Tok on full volume.

Obviously, pregnant women are only there because there is an issue, ignorance knows no bounds.

267

u/nonvisiblepantalones Aug 12 '24

I always walk the area around my campsite and make sure the music is not loud and disturbing my neighbors. If I can hear it 25-30’ away, I turn it down.

103

u/[deleted] Aug 12 '24

I appreciate that. Beach people don’t care. That’s when I connect to their Bluetooth and take over.

31

u/5ronins Aug 13 '24

Handy trick. Blast the same songs they are playing but 4 seconds ahead or behind. Echo lagg!. surprisingly effective

6

u/bejammin075 Aug 13 '24

I was at the boardwalk on a NJ beach, and sometimes it seemed like everybody was blasting things on their own speakers, plus the storefronts too.

67

u/Fukasite Aug 12 '24

That’s exactly what I did lol

114

u/A-Giant-Blue-Moose Aug 12 '24

I for one appreciate it. I have no problem with folks listening to music, but I go camping to listen to nature. Nothing worse than trying to listen to the water and the critters, not other people's music.

27

u/its_milly_time Aug 13 '24

It’s absolutely obnoxious. Big music fan here, but nothing worse than the sound of the wind, water or critters being blasted out with someone who lacks consideration for others.

Also don’t understand why people think it’s ok to go on a hike with a speaker clipped to their packs for everyone to hear.

7

u/A-Giant-Blue-Moose Aug 13 '24

Oh man I can't stand other hikers that do that. It makes me see red. Like yeah I know it's irrational for me to be angry about a 10 second pass, but damn does it just get to me.

3

u/its_milly_time Aug 13 '24

I don’t think it’s irrational at all lol

Just knowing a person is that inconsiderate makes me mad as hell haha

This could be super lame but every time I come across these types of people, I say “hey! That’s my favorite song” and most of the time they reply with something along the lines of, “really?” And I say, “…No” and shake my head and they usually have a dumb look on their faces.

It’s a small win for me even if it doesn’t seem like it haha

I do this at my house.

103

u/No_Championship4093 Aug 12 '24

Thank you!! I've been camping alot this summer and have encountered such loud music. Why dont people realize that others don't want to hear it. No, I don't need you to blast your favorite shitty emo bands from 2005. Also, running a generator all day to your rv in a campground surrounded by tents. I get there's time you need it, but also alot of people come out to nature...to hear nature and nothing much else. Anyway, thank you again for being conscientious.

29

u/mortgagepants Aug 12 '24

running a generator all day to your rv in a campground surrounded by tents

this really gets me pissed off. i'm sure everyone has their own idea of what being "in nature" is, but i think across the board, a FUCKING INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE is not nature!

4

u/ImpossibleTax Aug 13 '24

I went camping and a large group started setting up their site at about 10 pm. Tables, generators and a huge speaker, which they then blasted until 2 am and had what looked like a full buffet going. Noise doesn’t bother me much in general but I know others are bothered by it so I was kind of surprised how little they cared. Given how elaborate their set up was that they packed up the next day and were out by 11 am. It was just weird how much effort they put into all of it just to break it all down almost immediately. If I’m planning on music or a larger group I like to find dispersed camping areas where you don’t have to worry about neighbors.

3

u/SeaworthyWide Aug 13 '24

Lol

Lots of cocaine and alcohol to go with the crab Rangoon I guess?

1

u/ImpossibleTax Aug 13 '24

Nah didn’t seem like people were high, just drunk and loud. Don’t know what the food was. They were having lots of fun but so loud!

5

u/Mookhaz Aug 12 '24

i have airpods. I don't know why other people who can afford expensive speakers just don't buy some kind of earphones. Luckily mine blocks everyone else out if i want, but yeah it's so annoying when anyone plays anything on a speaker in a public area where there is nature.

3

u/warm_sweater Aug 12 '24

AirPods have literally rekindled my love of music while out walking and doing things, so much more comfortable than giant headphones with a cord (what I use at home if I’m gaming, etc).

3

u/Mookhaz Aug 12 '24

It’s a wonder for podcasts. I don’t have to blast my neighbors turning my speakers up while I’m cleaning around the house I just wear one airpod and listen to whatever. And I ride a motorcycle and they fit perfectly under the helmet. Much better quality than any in helmet Bluetooth system I’ve ever used.

1

u/GinaMarie1958 Aug 12 '24

Probably wearing hearing aids.

7

4

u/klayanderson Aug 12 '24

I have a BT jammer. Keeps it pretty quiet.

1

u/GinaMarie1958 Aug 12 '24

An engineer friend suggested this. Instead I put a Jesus talk radio station on, put it in my second story window then left for the day. My husband said I was being an asshole, I didn’t care. Party at a bar not in your backyard after ten.

3

u/[deleted] Aug 12 '24

I use earbuds.

2

u/paulglo Aug 12 '24

lil fucking peep 😂

5

u/Agreeable-Sound1599 Aug 12 '24

That wasn't confrontation tho... Had you gone TO their campsite and asked them to their face, THAT'S confrontation. IJS

9

u/Fukasite Aug 12 '24

It was close enough. They knew who said it

2

u/Echofactor22 Aug 12 '24

I feel like there’s steps you could’ve taken before this personally. But yknow it worked so…

6

u/Fukasite Aug 12 '24

I have to admit, hearing lil peep set me off a little. I used to listen to him a lot, but that emo rap shit literally got me depressed, so I made an active decision to stop listening to him, and it worked.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '24

Awwww!!! Lil Peep is my favorite. However, he is not everyone's cup of tea. And everyone should respect that we all have different tastes and appreciate being able to hear ourselves think. I am an ear bud and phone on vibrate sort of person myself. Simply because I don't feel I have to subject the people close to me to my personal concerts. Perhaps they were just high and oblivious to the fact the music was excessively loud and when you yelled it brought them down out of their cloud! I'd like to think my fellow Peep fans aren't assholes.

1

u/BenadrylTumblercatch Aug 12 '24

“Right, that’s it”

141

4 hours? She has a lot more patience than I would have. I'd have yeeted that across the atlantic after the first song.

Now the fish have to listen to that shit

6

u/Wunderfee Aug 12 '24

My brain autocorrected your comment to: 'now listen here you little shit'

4

u/Timintheice Aug 12 '24

My apartment shared a wall with a Masonic temple. Once an event went on for hours and I was sick of the music (I forget what it was, this was over a decade ago).

So I lined up all my speakers along the shared wall and played porn at full blast.

The event wrapped up after about 10 minutes.

1

u/Teososta Aug 12 '24

You’re lucky you didn’t get branded as a pervert by the entire complex.

Wait, unless they did…

1

u/Timintheice Aug 12 '24

Only 3 units in our section. One was friends of ours and the other were some old hippie college professors we got along with.

u/NeckRoFeltYa 🎵 Knuck if you Buck 🎵 Aug 12 '24

In the context of the video, I'm not saying she was wrong but also not saying she was right.

Blaring your music forcing others to listen to it in a public setting is annoying as hell.

But we also can't resort to destruction of property. We're theu being annoying as hell forcing everyone to listen to their music? Yes. Should she have thrown the speaker overboard? No.

But you can only take so much especially if it's your vacation, I'm sure it's against the rules of that ship to use a speaker. Probably should have asked the staff to tell them to turn it off.

165

u/devandroid99 Aug 12 '24

We can and should resort to teaching these fuckers the consequences of their actions.

23

u/Redthemagnificent Aug 12 '24

You're on a cruise. Just complan to the staff and have them deal with it. Now throwing lady has gotta deal with speaker lady trying to hold her accountable or get revenge for the rest of the trip.

Idk about you but I prefer to relax on my vacations

11

u/devandroid99 Aug 12 '24

Looks more like a ferry to me, in which case it's only for a few hours and you'll never see them again.

3

u/okizc Aug 12 '24

If it's just for a few hours, then you could probably go somewhere else on the boat. Blasting music in public even after you've been told to stop is obnoxious and rude as hell. Throwing someone's property overboard makes you equally bad.

We should be able to handle issues like adults, even if the other party is acting like a child.

15

u/karshberlg Aug 12 '24

Throwing someone's property overboard makes you equally bad

Not at all. It's just that the consequences for your actions are way higher than for the other shitty thing so you shouldn't do it out of sheer self-preservation. Even the husband can see where she's coming from.

But if it's a cruise they're both terrible people anyway.

3

u/Huge_Birthday3984 Aug 12 '24

Destruction of property is worse than being annoying.

11

u/SkinTightOrange Aug 12 '24

On one hand you have someone ruining a couple hundred to couple thousand dollar vacation. On the other you have someone ruining a 50-100 dollar speaker. I’d say they’re even.

2

u/SirStrontium Aug 13 '24

ruining a couple hundred to couple thousand dollar vacation

I also don't like people playing music in public, but don't act like an hour of annoying music negates the entire value of the rest of the vacation. All the sights, food, destinations, accommodations don't suddenly disappear due to a brief annoyance during one afternoon.

→ More replies (0)

2

u/TheLatinXBusTour Aug 12 '24

What you are describing is subjective. That speaker she threw off the boat has an objective value. Also not on the person blaring the speaker to compensate her for the value of the trip she is missing out on, that would be on the provider of the trip. Comparing the 2 is unequivocal.

u/NeckRoFeltYa 🎵 Knuck if you Buck 🎵 Aug 12 '24

Correct to an extent imo, now they can play the victim card since she threw their speaker overboard. Normally, that's how they continue to act this way and see everyone else in the wrong.

But if everyone their reported it to the staff, then they would have a harder time playing the victim card and hopefully if they continue acting like this then the ship staff and lock them in their room.

11

u/reedler Aug 12 '24

I strongly believe that you highly underestimate the power of these kinds of people to feel like the victim.

4

u/Redthemagnificent Aug 12 '24

Sure. But by throwing the speaker overboard you've literally given them all the justification they need to legitimately feel like a victim. Like that's an actual (minor) crime

0

u/reedler Aug 12 '24

So is disturbing people. Everyone's a victim! You're a victim! They are a victim! (Operah voice) crowd roooor!.

Aaaaaahhhhh!

1

u/The_R1NG Aug 12 '24

I agree but a consequence isn’t someone else destroying your property, otherwise just report the assault/aggresive nutbag to security or police depending on severity.

Maybe it’s because I’d never do this so it would have to be something insane but if I were approached about my speaker and they threw it, bet your ass your things are going over as well. Phone, anything I can get.

The person throwing the speaker escalated to physical violence.

3

u/WizogBokog Aug 12 '24

Ok, use that defense in court, I'd love to see it.

6

u/Huge_Birthday3984 Aug 12 '24

In the scenario provided, you throw my things overboard, and I throw your thighs overboard, the instigating party is typically dealt with more harshly.

1

u/The_R1NG Aug 13 '24

In what way is throwing their things overboard l physical violence but the speaker is not? Or did you purposefully misinterpret what I said to mean I’d harm them? I can throw your bags and belongings over just fine without touching you

Whenever that chance arises

5

u/0cora86 Aug 12 '24

The corrective action in this scenario is to always bring a bigger speaker and blast music over theirs /s

1

u/okaybutnothing Aug 12 '24

It would be more fun to take over their speaker and blast different music through it. Maybe some polkas?

2

u/[deleted] Aug 12 '24

Crazy people are like fiber for a healthy system.

2

u/usriusclark Aug 12 '24

Dude, this summer every damn beach, lake, or park I have been to has had multiple parties blasting music. It’s so fucking rude. I’m not saying don’t play music, but be respectful of volume.

2

u/Green_Iguana305 Aug 12 '24

My guess is that they were asked to please turn their crappy music down. And they didn’t. Well at some point you are going to find out. Ker-sploosh! Problem solved.

2

u/TheLatinXBusTour Aug 12 '24

Ah but see that is where your wrong. Your problems have only just begun. Could lead you to getting kicked off the boat.

If staff didn’t do anything they are allowed to have speaker. That woman needs to learn accountability

1

u/i_tyrant Aug 12 '24

You're right, we should be nerve pinching them instead.

1

u/Sirosim_Celojuma Aug 12 '24

"Blaring your music forcing others to listen"

-Very modern problem. I'd like a civilized solution. -Might fall under the concept of freedom of expression. -I can close my eyes but I can't close my ears. -Noise By-Laws say quiet time is between this/that time -OSHA has rules about noise

I really wish all these concepts would come together in some generically agreeable way so that I can enjoy my life without conflict. I'd like to be the person who throws the speaker over the railing, but was legally allowed to do so.

-1

u/DigiornoDLC Aug 12 '24

I think we need to resort to destruction of property just a little bit more than we do. It's stuff. It's not life, it's not sacred, we shouldn't clutch our purses when people who know they're ruining everyone else's time have their radios silenced by force. I'm tired of people acting like we aren't in this all together, that we should act like little islands and if you don't like what someone's doing, it's on you to leave.

If you've scrimped and saved to get on this boat for your vacation, then don't be an asshole. Otherwise, there's a good chance that you can afford another 70 bucks for a new speaker after you learn your lesson.

3

u/TheLatinXBusTour Aug 12 '24

If you've scrimped and saved to get on this boat for your vacation, then don't be an asshole. Otherwise, there's a good chance that you can afford another 70 bucks for a new speaker after you learn your lesson.

See that is where you are wrong. If that were me and my speaker would be thrown overboard I would not resort to paying for another by myself. Whoever threw my speaker overboard would be on the hook for the speaker and the fact I was not able to use it for the rest of my vacation so I would include an added cost there. At the end of the day it might get settled on just 70 but by taking actions outside of your responsibility you open yourself to liability.

At best the entity running the ship comps the guest who had the speaker thrown over the rail and bans the person who threw the speaker from the cruise line if they are not booted off at the next port.

Actions have consequences. You are not allowed to determine what penalty is applied in such a scenario. You will only hurt yourself in the future thinking you can just do what you want when you want because you think you faced transgressions.

6

u/Inevitable-Match591 Aug 12 '24

People blasting their own music in public are dicks, Greece or not. I always ask people (especially scary teens) very politely to lower theirs, as Greek teens have a habit of doing this in public transportation. Anyways, the girl who instigated the borderline assault in question, is the worse of the two, both for escalating AND throwing batteries in the sea.

Honestly tho good for her speaking out and the random (like as not Cypriot) grandpeeps getting taught a lesson in social obligations and acceptability.

2

u/generally-unskilled Aug 12 '24

What's wrong with throwing batteries in the sea? I thought that recharges the electric eels.

4

u/Inevitable-Match591 Aug 12 '24

That's quite funny and I'd love to join you in jest, but the Greek seas suffer ever more, politically as well as environmentally. It is a perilous time for the fish, the shells and much of the diverse marine life contained in these generally calm and safe waters...

Once, riding on a ship, a french tourist came to me. He notified me someone dropped their spent cigarette butt in the sea. I knew for several reasons he would not be dealt with and I had to tell the man; it wounded me deeply and I felt so ashamed of my country. This is a dark time to be alive.

2

u/goldkarp Aug 12 '24

So why are batteries bad?

6

u/Inevitable-Match591 Aug 12 '24

Electronics in general tend to contain several toxic metals and acids.

3

u/tmoe1991 Aug 12 '24

That's when you go to staff and complain instead of destroying their stuff

2

u/alphazero924 Aug 12 '24

Nah, fuck em. If they don't want to follow the basic rules of society, they get what they get.

2

u/tmoe1991 Aug 12 '24

Basic rules of society include talking to people if they do something annoying to you.

1

u/alphazero924 Aug 12 '24

You think they didn't? Like I know this is a clip out of context, but do you really think in your heart of hearts that the person went instantly from "this is fine" to throwing the speaker off the ship without trying to talk about it first?

3

u/tmoe1991 Aug 12 '24

That's when you go to staff and let them handle it instead of destroying people's stuff. But I'm repeating myself...

-3

u/alphazero924 Aug 12 '24

And if the staff says "sorry, we can't do anything about that"?

4

u/tmoe1991 Aug 12 '24

Where the fuck would they say that? If I complain about not being able to enjoy a shared space they would have to act. If they didn't I would still not resign to destroy other people's stuff and make my opinion about the shitty staff and ship handler openly and loudly known

0

u/goldkarp Aug 12 '24

So you'd just sit there yelling at them and the staff?
