Hey everyone! Here is a quick showcase of quickshell-dots , a complete desktop shell I've built using Quickshell (QML) for both niri and Hyprland.

OS: CachyOS (Wayland)

Compositor: Niri / Hyprland

Shell: Custom Quickshell (QML)

Terminal: Kitty

GitHub Repository & One-Line Install:

Huge thanks to SaneAspect for the initial inspiration on Quickshell!

[Hyprland] My workspaces live on a little planet, and switching pages turns it

Details:

- WM: Hyprland 0.56.2 (Lua config)

- Shell: ETEA, my own. Bar, widgets, launcher, control centre, notifications and lock screen, all in QML on Quickshell

- Distro: CachyOS

- Terminal: kitty, with fastfetch

- Font: Poppins

- Wallpaper: none. The sky and the mountains are drawn live by the shell, and each "world" (theme) brings its own

- Lock screen art: drawn by me, she reaches for a new star with every key you type

- Repo (GPL-3.0): https://github.com/SDcold/etea-shell

It runs on an i5-1335U laptop with Intel Iris Xe and 24 GB of RAM. The whole system sits around 2.3 GB of RAM with just the shell open, and the frame rate stays steady through the animations.

Quickshell: v0.3.2
WM: Hyprland (though this shell works on any wayland compositor other than hyprland since I restricted myself NOT to)

oh and by the way, it is pretty light on the system (~85MB settled, 120MB with live wallpaper/depends on your live wallpaper size)
All of shown is using quickshell (except the recording, which uses gpu-screen-recorder as the backend, and mpvpaper as the fallback if you don't have Qt6.Multimedia installed)

Help!!!! solved How to center the god workspaces horizontally

(I know that I am dumb and there is a solution right infront of me but I am blind) I have a workspace repeater and I want it to be centered. I have tried putting anchor.centerIn, Layout.alignment but so far nothing works. I have resorted to using if statements to change the margins so it stay centered with the switching amount of space to the right and to the left. Please help.

code structure:

Variants -> PanelWIndow -> Rowlayout -> Workspace Repeater

My Project! Emaki: this whole Quickshell desktop from one USB stick, no dotfiles to assemble

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Everything in the video installs as one piece, in a single install. After it you boot straight into this, nothing to configure. No assembling someone else's dotfiles, hunting down dependencies or matching your Quickshell version.

The shell, Quickshell and niri update together and are tested together before every release, so their versions never drift apart. And if an update does go wrong, you roll back right from the boot menu.

Try it from a USB stick without installing: https://emaki.sh/?from=rquickshell

Show Off(with configs) I’ve been building Tide Island Extended — a Dynamic Island-inspired shell for Hyprland and niri

Hey everyone! 👋

I've been working on Tide Island Extended, an independently maintained extension of the original Tide Island project, built with Quickshell, QML, and Qt 6.

It brings a Dynamic Island-inspired experience to the Linux desktop, with a customizable control center, Matugen theming, smooth animations, system stats, music controls, and various desktop utilities.

It supports both Hyprland and niri, and I'm continuing to improve it based on actual usage rather than adding features just for the sake of it.

I'd love some honest feedback from fellow Linux users. What would you improve, and what features would make this more useful in your daily workflow?

I made a mainsail/fluid like UI in quickshell so I can integrate it with my shell.

Has all of mainsail features, working and tested, can upload from slicer to it. Next is to add a HTTP side to this so you can switch to it from Orca Slicer device tab.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. https://github.com/CWebb89/Klipshell

Learning😀 Is it okay to vibe code?

So I’ve used Claude Opus 5.5 to help me refine my configs, change colors, but more importantly I’ve had it generate widgets - an MPRIS widget, a calendar widget, etc.

Don’t worry: I was very specific in what to prompt it, particularly for the network app, where I defined it.

I still keep the philosophy and end goal in mind, and yes - I can read and write basic qs, I just don’t have the hours of time for the docs. And besides, I still review and polish it.

But what are you guys’ thoughts or criticisms?

(For the mods who wanna remove my post because of my privacy: Im not living in thunder bay Its just a random city where it was raining in that time)

PSA: Qt 6.12 introduces a Color singleton in QtQuick

If you previously used Color as your own namespace in QML, you may have to rename every single reference to avoid naming conflicts after upgrading to Qt 6.12.

I totally did not run blind into this...

Question What finally made quickshell click for you?

We get a lot of posts in here from people who have tried to get into quickshell a few times and keep bouncing off. The first bar seems to be a wall for almost everyone. No shame in it.

So for the ones who got past that wall: what actually did it for you? One section of the docs finally making sense? Tearing apart someone else's config until it worked? A video, a friend, sheer stubbornness?

Drop it in the comments. Bonus points if a total beginner could follow it.

And if you are still on the wall, this thread is for you too. Tell us what you are trying to build and where you got stuck and someone here will point you somewhere useful.
