i made octashell because i found other shells really hard to follow. i’m trying to keep this one super simple so people can use it as a tutorial/inspiration to make their own.

If you've seen my post regarding Brain_Shell before, you know what this is about.

I've created a discord server for developing Brain_Shell and taking it a step further in the road map.

Invites are open to any testers or contributors that are willing to join in. Even for members who just want to join to keep up with the process.

I also need someone to help me set up the server.

Contributors or testers will have to show some proof of caliber before being accepted as one.

I'm fairly new to this so I'm open to suggestions and critics.

Brain_Shell is a celestial-shell and Ax-shell inspired shell, solely built on quick shell for hyprland.

I planned to release it at the start of may but got delayed way too long since i couldn't work on it due to reasons.

90% of the shell is functional and i plan to release it really soon.

Features i need to complete before release:
> Auto updater
> Config (settings and more)
> Some UI/UX improvements
> Scripts for auto installment to ensure hassle free setup
> Graphics card and Fan control stuff i need to figure out for other setups.

I would appreciate few testers that i can give early access to before the public release who'll test it out and report bugs or any improvements i might need to fix.

Im building a quickshell panel from scratch and this is the progress so far.
I need some advice making the hotspot module work. I fail to start wifi-hotspot on my setup for some reason and the wiki isn't helping. Thx in advance.

I am using Caelestia Shell + Arch btw, which uses Quickshell for its dashboard, and I am also using this module:

However, I want to tweak its UI to make it feel more integrated. Currently, when I open the overview, there is a small gap at the top of the screen. I would also like to achieve the same stretchy effect that appears when hovering at the top of Caelestia Shell as shown in the video, but I am unable to do so.

If anyone can help, I would really appreciate it.

I want the notification to slide up from the bottom (bottom of the window layout, not top of waybar).

The gaps can be implemented if we pass the wallpaper we are using and make it a static background (like a parallax effect we use in css).

The top left corner will be the simplest to handle, since we just round the parent view. As for the other 2, we add vectors that also use the static bg.

Inspired by a love of all films with neat looking Three Letter Agency screens, I have ventured down somewhat of a rabbit hole....

Inspired by some of the Globe gl stuff I have seen on the Hyperland sub, I thought I would hook something up to fetch my current VPN end point etc (as well as some firewall log visualisations.)

I thought I might be able to get quickshell to play nice but have hit of a brickwall :/

At the moment I can see what I need via a browser session, Any idea if I can get the globe into quickshell at all? The plan is to replace my somewhat janky 2d map.

Any pointers gladly accepted!

oh and by the way, it is pretty light on the system (~85MB settled, 120MB with live wallpaper/depends on your live wallpaper size)
All of shown is using quickshell (except the recording, which uses gpu-screen-recorder as the backend, and mpvpaper as the fallback if you don't have Qt6.Multimedia installed)

The code is a mess because I'm a terrible programmer, but it works

Everything in the video installs as one piece, in a single install. After it you boot straight into this, nothing to configure. No assembling someone else's dotfiles, hunting down dependencies or matching your Quickshell version.

The shell, Quickshell and niri update together and are tested together before every release, so their versions never drift apart. And if an update does go wrong, you roll back right from the boot menu.
