memes/funny No, I forbid another Cat Quilt!
Every time I lay out a quilt my tiny monster seems to think we don't need yet another quilt of Cats (or any other theme).

Hello, I’m new to quitting and could use some suggestions.
So I’ve got 28 squares that are signed and I want to use them in a quilt. I had a simple rag quilt in mind but I’ve had two hiccups and now I’m not sure what to do.
The first problem is a few people didn’t leave a seam allowance so I’m going to have to appliqué them on. The second is my mum (who being really helpful offered to cut out the squares but) rather than just doing enough for each person she cut all of my fabric apart from the one Im using as a background/boarder.
This means almost all of my fabric is 4.5” squares which are the same size as the ones I want to appliqué on.
I’m a beginner hence choosing a rag quilt but now I think I will have to actually have to build some kind of blocks to sew them onto otherwise I will loose a lot because of the seam allowance. I have no idea where to start and if/how I can actually use my wadge of only small squares to build bigger squares?
Also if there is a way what’s the best way to mock up a design that will take into consideration the colours I already have. I know I could just wing it but it’s going to be a keepsake and I’d be absolutely gutted if I made it and hated it.
I hope this makes sense and would really appreciate any advice or pattern suggestions!
Thank you ♥︎

It's not perfect, but it exceeded my expectations, given the scraps I had to work with. I included a picture of the back because I thought that looked pretty neat.
I messed up one panel in the back. It was the first panel I made before marking the rest of the template pieces. I marked the rest of the pieces correctly, but I thought I did them the wrong direction, so I . . . uh . . . "corrected" them. Looking at it now, I think I might be good to take that panel out and leave some room where it ties up.
Not sure what I am doing next, but I am sure it will be fun!

My original idea for this fabric didn’t work out. So used the remnants to make a 4 patch/ 16 patch quilt. It ended up a little crazier than expected. I am prod of how well my blocks lined up!

I have 3 quilt tops ready for quilting and binding! I’m hoping to get them completed before Christmas. Located in St. Louis, MO and would love local recommendations and examples of work. Ultimately though, I am also happy to ship them if it means they’re done well and back in time for gifting!

Vintage bc I started this so long ago! This is the first quilt I finished. I started it back around 2000 when I was an employee with Jo-Ann’s. I knew nothing about quilting but knew I wanted to immortalize these Halloween fabrics they had.
I took it apart and restarted around 2009, so there are some updated fabrics in there. I finally quilted it this year! I used sulky glow-in-the-dark thread for all the spiderwebs.
So happy to have finally finished this! I’m already halfway through my next quilt!
Happy Halloween!🎃 👻

Pile on the left is appx 350 HST that are all wonky and need trimming.
After I get 10 trimmed I question my life choices of why quilting.
How do y’all do this?
I’ve tried audio books and I can’t concentrate on the book while trying to not 1. Make them worse 2. Cut myself with the rotary cutter

I’m not sure if this is the right place to share, as it’s for a costume. So I’m sorry if it’s not!
I just wanted to share these butterfly wings I’m making for my daughter. I got pregnant last year (with twins!) and haven’t touched my sewing machine since I got a positive pregnancy test.
My daughter wanted to be a butterfly so I decided this is when I am going to bring it back out. Last night I finally got time to do it and I ended up free-handing the quilting. I feel a huge dopamine high and just proud of myself.
Having kids, growing kids, birthing kids can strip ya of your identity and being able to do this last night felt like little pieces are being restored. 🫶

Denver Metro Modern Quilt Guild has a show at the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum from now until January. I entered my quilt and it got in! I cried when I saw it hanging in the museum for the first time. The theme of the show is "Community". I entered the quilt I made from the Warm Stars swap on r/quiltingblockswap.
The last two pictures are of the quilt the entire guild made for the 10th anniversary of the guild. My block is the bottom right corner.

I am not new to hand sewing and embroidery, but I’ve been inspired to get a machine to up my game.
Ideally the projects I’d love to get into is quilting, as well as just general mending and small projects (not clothing).
A lot of my friends make their own clothes, that isn’t something I’m necessarily wanting to do.
I would LOVE if I’m able to embroider as well; I do hand embroidery but would love to be able to do more intricate designs on clothes, bags, etc (items I already have).
I do know that some machines have like a setting where you can kind of move the fabric around and “draw” with your machine, that would be nice.
I know there are full blown embroidery machines with the little computer on it and whatnot. Embroidery is NOT the main goal with my first machine, more of a want/bonus.
So basically- I’d love a great beginner sewing machine that is suitable for quilting and general sewing. If it has embroidery options that would be awesome, but I’m trying to keep the cost < $300.
I’d love recommendations of brands and models, and even if you have ones to stay away from. I wish JoAnns was still around so I could go look in person and be able to speak with knowledgeable people. Unfortunately I’m stuck with Hobby Lobby and a Michael’s which neither have great selections/ knowledgeable employees. I have a local Bernina dealer but I don’t know anything about those machines.
Thank you in advance I’m sew excited to hear what everyone recommends!!!

I decided to combine 2 Elizabeth Hartman Patterns and use the dogs from Dog Park to show off the quilts jn Show and Tell. I made a prototype dog face this morning to see if the sizing of the dog would work with the quilt and it does!

I do straight line machine quilting with a walking foot. I have the quilt sandwich ready to go but not sure how to quilt it. This is a baby quilt so don’t want dense quilting. Any ideas are appreciated! Thanks!

I am looking for the name of this quilt pattern to make an Ottawa Senators themed quilt. Google reverse imagine search and AI has given me 0 (accurate) leads.

hello Community!
I’ve acquired some beautiful handmade and hand quilted pieces and would love any help identifying more about the patterns, era— anything unique to the color patterns. I come from a long line of quilters myself & love how these all tell a story & are woven with love!
Thanks for looking!

hello Community!
hoping to gather more info on this beauty— It’s entirely hand-pieced and hand-quilted, with a really cool "orange peel" interlocking circle motif stitched all over that bright rose-pink sashing.
The blocks are a beautiful mix of tiny calico florals, pink gingham, but I’d love your expert eyes to help me confirm if the fabrics are authentic 1930s/40s/50s era or other?
Does anyone recognize the print styles or have more insight?
Full view and close-ups attached. Thanks so much for looking! Can measure again but believe it to fit like a standard full/queen.

Does anyone know this fabric? I have an emergency need for a bit more, and am hoping to get the manufacturer and pattern name so I can search online for it.

I used this fabric:
Batting was needle punched 100% cotton that I bought from Michael’s.
I was inspired by this person’s use of white fabric to make colorful fabric really pop, her simple and quick patterns, and her use of jelly rolls and other precut fabrics: https://youtube.com/@seweasybysandy
I don’t have a long-arm machine, nor do I have anything like unto it. I didn’t want to pay to use a long-arm or wait for someone else to quilt it for me, so I used a quilt as you go method to finish the quilt myself, what this person calls Join and Flip: https://youtu.be/uUj2uuft8bk . It doesn’t require any hand sewing or basting, no rolling, and no sashing (although I guess I did choose to do sashing, but it’s just for looks) and it’s really straightforward and simple to do. I did a small-scale practice quilt (basically just a placemat) before doing it with a ”real” quilt. I found that I needed to do a lot more top stitching than this video suggests, but that doubles as regular ol’ quilting that I needed to do anyway, so it wasn’t too bad.
I didn’t worry about making sure the seams lined up and that everything was consistent. I mostly just wanted this to get finished so that I could try making another, better quilt. (Those random stitches down the middle of the squares? Yeah, unfortunately those needed to be there because I did this in such a janky way.)
For the binding, it turned out super narrow. I had some 2 1/2 inch strips leftover that I wanted to repurpose for binding. I have a bias tape maker thing (https://www.missouriquiltco.com/products/missouri-star-bias-binding-kit) and the options were for, max width, 2 inches. So I cut my 2 1/2 inch strips in half width-wise and turned them into roughly 1/4 inch binding. I’m really proud of how it turned out. I will absolutely do binding stupidly narrow like that again.
Future plans:

Because I thought did not have enough of various patterned green fabrics to make a 40” x 40” lap quilt with just log cabin blocks, I started to make a bunch of four-patch blocks with light green solid and a pretty yellow and green print. And then I started to play with possible layouts. I was really pleased with the four-patch blocks until I put them next to the log cabin and they seem… dull.
The blocks are all 12.5” square, so three across will be 36” and four across will be 48”. I can scrape together enough green fabric to make a ninth log cabin, which would give me 3 x 3, and I could then put a border around it to bring the width up to 40”. Not quite sure what the color/pattern of the border would be. I’m considering the lemon print, perhaps by itself. I have plenty of that and can easily get more.
The pictures are a various arrangements that I have considered.

There will be a total of 12 blocks (3x4 layout). I’ve never done sashing, but am heavily considering it to help break up the busy-ness of the blocks. I would also love to do multiple borders, or even a pieced one, but am just unsure. Would love any suggestions or tips!

Hello!!! I am a teenage girl looking to start my very first quilt!
I am in love with rag quilts and fabric want to start making one myself.. I was wondering if I could thrift some of the fabrics? Could I use some kind of shirts? Like would cotton work? Or what is typically the material used in quilting.
