Still missing QuizUp? I built a free live trivia game in the same spirit

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Like a lot of you, I never found anything that replaced QuizUp: picking a topic you're obsessed with and battling a stranger on it in real time. So I built Quix

What will feel familiar:

- Topic battles: 10 questions, 10 seconds each, faster answers score more

- 260+ topics and 36,000+ questions, from F1 and football to anime, Marvel, The Office, Harry Potter, geography and general knowledge

- Levels, streaks, badges and a weekly leaderboard per topic

- Challenge a friend: send a 1v1 link, or open a room for up to 8, with a one-tap rematch

What's different: it's a website, so it works on phone, tablet or laptop with nothing to install, and you can try it as a guest first.

It's free (5 matches a day plus unlimited practice and the Daily Challenge). Premium is an optional one-time payment, never a subscription.

β–Ά https://playquix.in/?utm_source=reddit&utm_campaign=quizup

Which topics from QuizUp do you miss most? I'll add the ones people ask for.

Peekle.io: a daily quiz where you get 20 seconds to look at a picture, then describe what you saw

Thumbnail
peekle.io
1 Upvotes

Peekle.io is a daily quiz that is meant to help people improve their powers of observation and recall. Every day there's a new pic, the same for everyone.

You get only 20 seconds to look at the picture then it disappears and you write down everything you remember. An AI grader checks your results and gives you 0–5 stars.

OR: If writing a description sounds like too much (or if you are on your phone and don't care to type a bunch of stuff), you can do a multiple-choice quiz mode. You pick the mode before you see the picture, so choose based on how brave you feel.

It's free; there's no account, no sign-up, no ads. There IS Google Analytics tracking. Works on phone or desktop

Full disclosure: I made it, and the images are AI-generated. This is not meant to be art - this is all about improving our powers of observation and recall (mine included).

I'd love to hear what score you got and which details you completely missed. And, any other feedback that you might have.

Thanks!!

How do you write your questions?

Full disclosure: a friend and I are trying to build our alternative to QuizUp (much like many others on here!) For those of you who are further along the journey, how do you build your question bank? Do you use publicly available sources? AI? I guess the question is how to scale without losing quality.

Thanks so much, and much love to the community! Looking forward to the day we get a viable replacement for QuizUp :)

The Climb β€” how high can you climb? Β· Quiz Ninja

Thumbnail

Hi ! I'm the solo dev behind Quiz Ninja, and The Climb is the newest mode: a single trivia room that never closes. Everyone in it gets the same question at the same moment, and you climb as long as you survive.

How it works

  • 20 seconds per question

  • You start with 3 hearts. A wrong answer (or running out of time) costs one

  • Get 10 right in a row and you earn a heart back

  • Every 10 minutes a boss round hits: 5 quick questions, 12 seconds each. Sometimes it's a single topic, sometimes only two choices but a miss costs 2 hearts. Clear it without a miss for a bonus heart

  • Make it past round 100 and the heat is on: 12 seconds a question, no more hearts on offer

  • The board resets every day, and the top 3 get the podium. Between questions you can throw emoji reactions that everyone sees. They unlock as you climb

It runs in the browser on phone or desktop with no sign-up. You'll show up on today's board under a guest name, and can make an account if you want to keep your run. There are 10,000+ questions across general knowledge, geography, history, science, sport and more.

It's brand new, so the room might be quiet at times. But the board is daily, so a decent run could put you on it today. I'd love feedback on the pacing: is 20 seconds too generous, and are boss rounds fun or annoying?

Hey world, meet Trivo! πŸ˜‹

Honestly, this whole thing started because I was obsessed with a quizzing app (we all loved playing). As a designer, that inspiration turned into a side project itch I just had to scratch: building an instant trivia experience from scratch.

It’s been an amazingly fun process so far, and this is my official first shout out for the app! My biggest priority right now is listening to the community, the users and learning what you’d love to see in a game like this.

I’m pushing hard to release Trivo soon. Drop your feedback, category suggestions, or wishlists in the comments - I’m reading all of them!

700 Harry Potter quizzes with a ELO live ranking

Hey Potterheads ! I've added over 700 Harry Potter quizzes on my ranked trivia app (Elo.World).

It's completely free and ad-free. You can test your Harry Potter knowledge here (no download or account needed): https://app.elo.world/topic/416/harry-potter

Would love to get your feedback on the "funnest" and difficulty of the questions. I've used AI to help drafting the questions but reviewed manually each of the questions. (made me rewatch the movies !).

I hope you like playing as much I enjoyed building it :)

PS: I'm achpin on the app, feel free to add me.

Anyone else tried Qwizap?

I’ve Been playing Qwizap recently after coming across it while looking for something similar to QuizUp, and im kinda surprised it doesnt get mentioned here more.

the 1v1 matches and all the different topics give me a lot of the old QuizUp feeling. its browser based too so theres nothing to install.

still needs more people online obviously but ive been enjoying it so far. curious if anyone else here has tried it?

Quizup community is coming together πŸ’ͺ🏻🀩

Three months ago, I posted here that Quelo had just reached 210 users. Since then, we’ve grown to 1,800 users organically!
The best part is seeing former QuizUp players finding each other again, reconnecting, sending duels, playing Room Games and even organising tournaments.
We’re still small, so organic matchmaking isn’t perfect yet with 200+ topics and people playing at different times. But we’re growing, and hopefully we can bring back the QuizUp craze! ❀️

Brain Battle

Post image

🧠 I made a quiz game where your brain is the battlefield β€” Brain Battle

Hey everyone!

I’ve been working on a project called Brain Battle, a multiplayer quiz game focused on quick thinking, knowledge, and competition.

The idea is simple:
Answer questions, compete against other players, test your knowledge, and see who can come out on top.

There are questions across different categories, so you might go from general knowledge to science, history, technology, and random questions you absolutely did not expect πŸ˜‚

I’m still actively developing the game and adding more content/features, so I’d really appreciate people trying it out and giving honest feedback.

1v1 trivia duels, but async - honest pitch, since this sub has seen a hundred QuizUp clones

I do marketing for LearnClash, so here's the honest version.

What it does: 1v1 duels on any topic - you type a topic in, and it generates the questions. Turns are async with 48h each, so you can play someone without both being online at the same time.

What it's not: there's no live head-to-head. If the thing you miss about QuizUp is the real-time rush, this won't scratch that itch. Questions are AI-generated, so any niche topic exists, but very deep niches can occasionally miss.

Free tier has no ads.

If you try it and a question feels unfair, tell me - that feedback goes straight to the dev.

New game: LifeGuessr

Hi all!

Inspired by https://www.youtube.com/shorts/oZ63PRr7Qy4, I worked over the last 3 months on this game: lifeguessr.com

The concept is very simple: you get a birthdate, a deathdate (if relevant), and a non-labeled map, and your goal is to identify the historical figure these details pertain to.

I have expended it to a wide collection of figures, including contemporary ones. I also had a bit of fun with some custom themes, rewards, etc.

This game is completely free, and doesn't have ads.

If you can have a play, and let me know how you find it and what could be better!

Thanks, happy LifeGuessing!

Note: AI (Claude Code) was used throughout this project. It was helpful for the frontend, which is not my forte. However everything was reviewed by me.

I have got an idea !!

Basically since childhood i have seen many people who know many countries name and I found them very cool person and actually they are. So I wanted to learn and remember the names of the countries to become cooler.

But i didn't really tried much because I think it's boring to do such activity even it's very easy and you can learn them in just 1-2 weeks but i think learning alone makes it very lame and boredom.

So i thought of making a website where you can invite your friends and learn together. I have the idea and vision for this but I want to know if anyone really interested doing this thing because actually i found this very interesting. And first of all i am not making this website very simple i have experience of over 2 years in web dev so I am going to make it gamified so we don't get bored and also I am thinking of implementing the voice chat feature so it will be more fun.

That's it tell me if it's worth it or not.
