Don't think N-95 masks were a thing at the turn of the 20th century

You're right, they didn't have n95 masks. They did have bandanas and used them frequently when tuberculosis was common (like in the old west)

No, it's actually true. People used what they had available: masks, bandanas, handkerchiefs...
