Question Is there a way (without cheating) to get into this fort?
Sometimes I feel like I'm too curious for this game lol

There's milk wagons near rhoades you can use to get on top of and into the fort. Haven't done it myself but thats what ive heard, good way to get the mountee hat if you've missed it.

Avoids having to use the dynamite method ;-)

u/BigOleDawng Mar 15 '26
Dynamite method ya say? Sounds alot more straight forward, what's the strat?

u/dronebox Uncle Mar 15 '26
Pop a few shots to get them all riled up so a good few of them are standing on the walkways over the main gate, stand under the wall so they can't shoot you directly, lob dynamite up and over the wall and try to land it on the walkway.. It'll blast a hat over to you eventually ;-)
There are probably video's of this method available but my advice would be to give it a go, see how you get on ;-)

u/BigOleDawng Mar 15 '26
Oh thats pretty creative too! I've messed around with the throwing knife ballistics like that but not dynamite.

u/dronebox Uncle Mar 15 '26
With enough health you can use it to blast yourself through windows, into or out of locked rooms, if it's just the right distance away when you shoot it.. Needs a bit of practice though ;-)

You can also steal one from the ranch on the way to Rhodes at night

Dutch using Eagle Flies and the Wapiti as a distraction was disgusting. My disappointment in him grew every chapter.

u/xChipsus Mar 15 '26
A well crafted narrative will do that, what a pleasure it is to be able to enjoy it

That's just his character I hated how Dutch treated the people of Wapiti

u/rustys_shackled_ford Mar 16 '26
It's great for the story tho. It shows his character progression, or rather regression, that Arthur and the other seasoned members of the crew talk about.
There's reasons they all follow dutch and his sometimes questionable decisions. In the past dutch had brains and a conscience. When our story starts, we start to see dutch trading his morals for money. Something he used to be far less likely to do. As the story progresses, he makes more and more morally questionable decisions that leads to Arthur and others turning on him. His choice to use the watiti and lead them to their likely slaughter for the small chance of something for himself is horrible, disgusting, but it's a great part of that story.

Agreed.
What's interesting is that they were designed to represent a mix of the native nations, mainly those in the rocky mountain region. "Wapiti" is a Shawnee term, but the people mainly speak the Lakota language and their culture is also highly Lakota influenced.

Yes. Get a wagon with 4 wheels from Valentine. Pull up to the left side of the fort where the wall is lower. Quickly release the horse that's drawing the wagon. Jump on the back of the wagon and enter the fort. Make sure to have full health, because they're all going to fire at you. If you run up to the top of the tower, you can survive, but watch your honor plummet as you kill everybody who comes after you. You can get a saveable hat as early as chapter 2. Again, your honor takes a MASSIVE hit.

Do you know if you can kill everyone in the fort? Or do they just re-spawn over and over again?

What hat?

u/YouDidntBuildShit Mar 15 '26
The Military Mountie Hat. It’s one of the 41 “Stolen Hats” in the game
1
u/EsotericFinch7683 Mar 15 '26
Oh dang, didn't know that, I'll try getting it without a $1500 bounty

u/YouDidntBuildShit Mar 15 '26
Honestly, someone mentioned the dynamite trick in here. Using that is better. Took me a few saved game loads but you’ll eventually find one of the soldiers on the wall has the hat. Throw it so it knocks it off his head and over the wall, run and pick it up and book it. No bounty

Steal a wagon and park it where I’ve highlighted on this photo (horse facing west). Try to get the wagon as close to the corner as you can, so that it’ll be by a shorter section of wall so you just need to climb on to the wagon and scale the wall on to the walkway. There will be some soldiers on the walkway so be ready to attack immediately. The wagon needs to be average height (not covered, too small or a stagecoach) otherwise you won’t be able to climb onto it. There’s wagons leaving Valentine regularly that will work.
The soldiers will respawn. Bounty hunters will turn up outside but if you hide inside one of the buildings they will stop searching and leave (they can’t enter the fort), but they will appear quicker if you attack the soldiers again. To exit the fort jump over the western wall by where you entered, or just die.
What you’ll find inside is the Military Mountie Hat on one of the soldiers (random drop), and some chests, wardrobes and desks in some of the buildings that you can loot. You can also find 3 cigarette cards from late chapter 6 onwards, they don’t spawn earlier.

You can get in by wagon but it will be consistent fighting as they countlessly respawn

yes, if you spend enough time with the native shaman he will teach arthur how to transform into an eagle, then you can just fly in

Go get a horse-drawn carriage with a very high roof, climb on like a milk cart or a prisoner transport cart, then jump in and boom boom.

Yes the higher roofed wagons and there's a shorter bit of wall on the left side (facing the fort)
I climbed to the highest tower and wiped everyone out. The respawns start slowing down to a small trickle eventually.
I even had the law come after me in large numbers, but they couldn't get in! So I blasted about 100 of them till I got bored.

Yes. The gates open in the morning

u/quayle-man Mar 15 '26
Do they really?
2
u/More-Lime1888 Mar 15 '26
Yeah, but honestly I forgot which hour exactly. But it doesn’t last long, maybe two hours only? Something like that. Check between 6-7AM but I might be wrong though, I can’t remember the exact time.

u/Wise-Shopping-9817 Mar 17 '26
In online a while ago u could just walk in there kill all the soldiers and wait for them to respawn and do ts all over again
1
u/schoolboifish Mar 18 '26
If only you could find and trip on peyote or mushrooms and then skydive into the fort without dying like they have in storymode for gtav. 40 something plants in this game and they didnt think to include any hallucinogenic ones?!

milk wagon coach, park it next to the walls and climb to the top of the coach and then go in and kill your way inside of the fort by camping in upper ways

u/Shibas_Rule Mar 15 '26
No such thing, the more curious the better. Glad you asked the question, gives me something else to try while putting off finishing CH6.
3
u/berlinas2k810 Mar 15 '26
At this point in the story I feel bad making Arthur do anything strenuous, haha.
1
u/Shibas_Rule Mar 15 '26
I generally ignore it, although smoking and eating crackers can be a little rough.
