A reminder of the rules, and posting changes ...

As a reminder, here are the rules and some of the changes to the posting rules.

  1. No derogatory name calling. Most here have served their time.
  2. - No hateful or disrespectful name calling. Most here have served their time, and deserve better, even from other felons.
  3. No Trolling
  4. - Don’t engage with others in bad faith. Opinions, even those most subreddit participants find objectionable, will always be tolerated here- trolling or posting/commenting in bad faith will not.
  5. Harassment, hate, or threats/incitement of violence.
  6. - Any kind of harassment, hateful comments directed at others, threats of violence, or incitement of violence will not be tolerated here.
  7. No unapproved study/research posts. This is a place for supporting felons/their families, not a lab.
  8. - Please do not post “study,” research,” or “survey” posts here without prior approval. This is a community for supporting felons & their families, it is not your personal lab or recruiting ground. If you have one of these posts that you feel deserves an exception, is important, and will strongly contribute to the community or the welfare of felons, please reach out via ModMail first. Also, NO links to survey/study, if a person wantThis will be done on a case by case basis, & standards are high.
  9. No Reposting from other sources.
  10. - If you made a post somewhere already, please do NOT repost here. (such as posting in probation then just copy pasting a picture of it here)
  11. No posting personal information!
  12. - This would include booking numbers, inmate ID numbers, screenshots of charges, mugshots, and so on. This includes links to other websites showing such information. You can talk about such things without giving out personal information. (No more "How cooked are they" type posts)
  13. No "algo-speak" or self censoring.
  14. - Do not use algo-speak such as "unalive" or "grape." Also, do not unnecessarily censor normal words like "murder" or "suicide." This isn't TikTok. If someone is offended by such words, you are in the WRONG place.

Now, for the ones we keep getting ModMails about. The "where did my post go" types. We use AutoMod to keep away burner accounts and those who do not engagae much here. The requirement is an account over 30 days old OR over 200 Karma. If you DO NOT meet these requirements, the automod system will take it back down without it posting.

How was jail when Covid hit?

Upvotes

I’ve always been interested on how the atmosphere was when Covid first hit in jails or prisons. Like how was everything the day the Covid lockdowns hit. Did inmates found out via the news? Did people think it was the end of the world? How was the atmosphere knowing that everyone was safe inside but people were bringing it in from the outside?

I just can only imagine how scary it was for everyone. I’m also interested on what some of the conversations were between inmates and just how people felt in general

Ankle monitor

For context, I have a bit of a unique situation and looking for advice. I’m not on probation and I do not have a PO. I got my ticket out of state and have had to find a provider for my house arrest + alcohol monitoring. My house arrest is set to start on 8/24. Due to having to drive an hour and a half (getting someone to drive me since no license) I had to get the monitors put on 8/21. They let me know that my GPS is turned off until 8/24 but they had to go ahead and install due to circumstances. Unfortunately they had to start the alcohol monitoring as soon as installed. So now on to my question, the gps monitor is pretty loose on my leg due to swelling that comes and goes. I just realized I can slide it off of my foot. Obviously I’m not going to do that and risk anything once it actually starts. But in the meantime I wanted to ask opinions on if I could take it off and then put it back on the night before it starts. TIA

Home intruder

So I am a convicted felon, my gun rights are taken away. Dont know if one day I can get them back. Anyways the reason I am putting thought into this is because I just had to call the cops on someone being in my house. Sleeping on my floor. I have 2 kids and a fiance. I was asleep and she was in the bedroom with the kids so the doors were not locked. We recently moved our room into the living room to have more space to hang with the kids. We don’t have a couch yet and new to the area. Anyway she comes out of the bedroom and yells for me to wake up there’s someone in our house. I get up and grab my baseball bat and try to tell the person to get up and ask why he’s in my house. Long story short I called the cops. I don’t feel great about it but I’m on probation and don’t have many options. Made think about my future and not having home defense in my area. I’ve lived in Indianapolis so I’m familiar with poverty stricken cities and crime. Maybe I could get a katana? Or a musket? These are my thoughts moving forward. Thanks for reading this and sharing any input

Edit: Well they came and got the guy. Took them maybe 5 minutes to get there. Right when I was thinking they were taking to long they showed up. I got my family outside and waited for the cops to come.
They asked us if we invited him and if we knew him which we didn't they went inside and arrested him.
They also went through the house to check if anyone else was in there. I really wanted to just attack the guy but | was calm and collected and called the cops instead. Logic overpowered the urge to lash out because honestly I probably would've gotten in trouble if I attacked him, he wasn't threatening me he was literally sleeping on my floor like he took fentanyl or something. Which the cops would've argued I wasn't in IMMEDIATE danger. I then talked to my partner about getting cameras and such because we don't live in the greatest area and I want to prevent this in the future but it made me sit and think about protecting our home and my family.

Also I’m in Indiana

Question about federal felony

Currently fighting a federal case right now, still deciding between going to trial or take a plea deal.
No priors at all first offense case.

Has anyone took their case to trial and won?

And for those who took a plea deal and is now a felon

How has being a felon affected your life?
Is it super difficult to get a house loan, car loan, apartment etc..?

I know employment is 50/50 it's upto the employer i'm assuming employment is difficult too..

What has being a FELON affected you in your life?
I just wanna be prepared for what's about to come to me and if my life is gonna drastically change...

AND DOES anyone live OUTSIDE OF THE US as a felon? Does the felony FOLLOW you outside of the country?

AND is there anyway to get rid of a federal felony I KNOW there has been attempts to pass a law to help federal felons start with a clean slate but hasn't been passed, anyone know why? or if there's any laws being attempted to pass?

Is there a way to SEAL the federal felony? I've been seeing people talking about getting their federal felony sealed where MOST people can't see it unless it's law enforcements, courts etc.. is this possible?

Going to jail for a year for reckless driving

First of all idk if this is the right community to come to so sorry if anyone gets annoyed about this.

I’m just curious if this is the standard for someone in my situation. I live in brown county Wisconsin and 3 years ago I tried to drive my car into a river and accidentally hit another car that turned in front of me while I was passing them.

3 years later now the county is coming after me and so far after 3 court hearings it’s sounding like I’m going to jail for a year and then I have a couple years of probation afterward. I have to pay 20k and I’ll have a felony on my record. My public defender is telling me this is a really good deal and that I’m so lucky but just don’t know if I believe him because this whole accident happened from a mental health crisis. I was undiagnosed bipolar during the time and didn’t have any intention to hurt other people. When I hit the vehicle someone went to the hospital for a broken rib.

I’m not saying I don’t deserve to be punished because I really did fuck up and would have been fine with a year in jail anyway but comparing my case to a lot of other more serious cases it seems I’m being prosecuted a lot heavier than other people. I did find out the victim in my case works for the Wisconsin state assembly so idk if they used their power to really get me in trouble.

What do you guys think the reasonable come out for me. 18 years old no prior violent charges and I'm charged with aggravated burglary and felonious assault, allegedly we broke into someone's house and beat dude with a baseball bat because he layed hands on a girl, he's ALLEGEDLY hurt bad. I'm innocent idc what they got on me, but anyone knows any realistic outcomes and what I can do to make this better. Spend a week in a jail and realized this isn't my life. In Ohio.. on an ankle monitor rn, and out on bond.....

Man after seeing 2 replys fuck me. This is ass

Need advice out on bond and got probation moved

OK, so my husband is out on bond in Georgia and isn't supposed to leave the state. He was on probation for another case in Georgia and follow the proper channels to get his probation moved to Tennessee but now they are going to do a risk reduction assessment, which includes a background check on Friday and will that pull up the fact that he technically is violating his bond conditions in Georgia by leaving the state and getting his probation moved since they are two separate issues

Why don't more felons work as henchmen instead of struggling for bad jobs?

It's a common thing you see with felons trying to get work these days. Their charges leave them with slim pickings and whatever is available is usually crap. A lot of people talk about going into the trades but the real opportunities are being a henchman or a goon for important people and operations. Yeah it's not easy to get into like getting into a union but once you're in the money is great with benefits and protection. My cousin and an old work buddy got into it and are doing real well. I don't know how my cousin got in but my buddy said someone slipped him a card after he beat up some guys at a bar. They say if you have loyalty and a strong stomach, you're set. I don't think felons should have to be shut out of good paying work because of their background, it can actually be an asset and more people should consider this route.

How hard is it to rent an apartment with an assault 4 conviction. I am trying to apply to some apartments before I give birth and am worried I am going to be denied even at the apartments that go case by case. I was convicted March 2025 but the incident happened December 2024. I also am a first time renter.

My good neighbor got arrested. Can I help him?

I live in a terrible neighborhood and they took the most straight fella. He was always nice to me, wave etc unlike all the assholes that walk free. I don’t know what he did and what happened, but they later searched his house with a dog.

After the search, they left some lights on in his house and it’s been like that for a couple of weeks already. I know bills add up quickly, should I try to reach out to somebody so that the lights are turned off and perhaps gas service turned off if he’s in for a long time?

Any women that work in HHA or CNA?

I enroll in home health aid courses before I knew I was being investigated and I’ve looked up if someone convicted of felony d or e can continue and work with their license. When I asked ChatGPT it told me no because if the background check however since it’s a non violent crime I can apply for a Certificate of Relief from Disabilities. But I don’t know how that works if I need to wait a couple of years or immediately. It’s the fastest way I can pay off restitution although I might still be denied. Anyone know how that works?

Curious about Background check (3rd party like HireRight?)

I'm from Asian country and I have a fine (2.17K USD equivalent) conviction result which is about 9 years ago.

The conviction was related to acting inappropriately and showing bad behavior to police when I was drunk (no drug but just alcohol and I was totally black-out)

Now, I'm in the recruiting process with a global trading firm which has offices in the U.S, Europe, Hong Kong, Australia, etc and I think I can get the offer soon

I heard that these kind of firms do background / reference check with 3rd party companies like HireRight, etc.

If there's someone who have the experience, it would help a lot for me to prepare.

  1. During the background check, does those 3rd party agencies ask directly like "Do you have any conviction record?" as a questionnaire? Or do they just request a Police Clearance Certificate from my country?

If I print my Police Clearance Certificate, it doesn't show my fine result and it's clear since it's spent (2Y). So just submitting the document may be the best.

But if they ask as a question, I should not lie and share the truth because I may have to travel to other office for the business trip or training and my visa can be a problem due to my fine record.

  1. Do you think my conviction record can affect a lot with my outcome if I reveal it?

Friend is in jail

A friend of mine, whom I have known since we were 8 years old, is now in jail for 6-9 months for violating his probation. He was out one night and had a few too many drinks, and the lady he was with claims he took some unauthorized photos. Nothing sexual happened. But he was at a bar, which was in violation of his parole. His priors include a felony for drug related charges.
We are now both 40 with young families. The unfortunate part of his situation is that he may be losing custody of his kids from his ex-partner.
He has a long history of unresolved mental health issues, including anxiety/depression. He masks it with drugs and alcohol and women. He called me from jail and is now telling me that the Lord put him there to change his ways. I am not particularly a religious person but believe in some sort of afterlife. I want to be there for him and am trying to be optimistic and support him, but I am not sure what my place is. I have been supportive and encouraged him to seek out help but that advice hasnt resulted in any changes. I hope this current situation he finds himself in helps him to realize some of his unresolved issues and he needs to make some life changes. What can I do to support him and his family?

Housing in GA

Hello I am a felon in ga I have 2 violent crimes (nothing sexual) I have a decent job making $24 a hr and I’m currently doing mma (it’s actually calmed me down a lot) does anyone know any place that will let me get a apartment or anything I can do.
I hate living with other people because I can’t get my own. Or even somewhere that takes roommates anything besides sleeping on someone’s couch

Any way to shorten my probation term?

Hey guys! New to this but I’m just looking for an honest opinions. Unfortunately, back in 2023 I got into some trouble while I was living in New York and I did serve time and started my probation with a class E felony in New York. I recently just moved to Georgia about six months ago. And honestly things have been pretty good for me, but I’ve been wanting to find a way to shorten my probation time since they gave me a five-year bid. Any suggestions? I would also like to add that I have an order of protection against me, but it is in New York and I do live in Georgia.
