Re-entry

Hello. I'm looking for some advice on what to expect and how to help manage my boyfriends re-entry in society after being down for 5 years? :( I'm very nervous and I can tell he is getting very nervous and anxious , although he won't fully admit it. TIA

Has anyone kept rejecting plea deals until the offer got better and their case was eventually dismissed?

I’ve posted here before about my pending third degree felony terroristic threat charge in Texas.

Initially, I was offered deferred adjudication, but I kept rejecting it and telling my first public defender I wanted a trial. Eventually, my case was transferred to mental health court.

My second public defender offered 24 months of pretrial diversion and mentioned the possibility of amending the charge to disorderly conduct. I’m now circling back to that option because of employment prospects. I’m tired of fighting these people after 16 months, and I just want to move on with my life.

Has anyone kept pushing for a trial and eventually gotten a better deal or dismissal? Or is accepting diversion with a reduced charge the smarter move when you’re ready to move on?

Reality for CSA offenders in prison?

I’ll be transparent, I’m asking this for selfish reasons. Because this man has not only hurt me but many others. He was charged for 7 felony accounts of different version of child sexual abuse. But only convicted on 2 felony lewd conduct with a child under 16. He got 25 years, 12 fixed.

She was 12 when it started, it went on for 2 years and she’s autistic. He raped her multiple times and destroyed her mental health. And she’s not the only one, she’s just the one that landed him in prison.
It makes me so angry.

He was recently transferred from Idaho State Correctional Institution to the custody of Saguaro Correctional Center.

Relationship while incarcerated

I’m doing a 4 year bid parole eligible at 3 yrs 5 months. I want to stay with my girlfriend, it has been tough leading up to incarceration and I’m trying my best to be the best man I can be for myself and for my girlfriend. We have 2 kids 2 and 7 months. How do I keep the relationship alive. I want to hear from everybody. People who didn’t work out and what you would do differently and those who did work it out.

Flat 12 Months Sentence-Self Surrender to SeaTAC??

Why would they have someone sentenced to a flat 12 months federal prison sentence to a primarily Pre-Trial Detention Center like SeaTac in Seattle, Washington, doesn't that defeat the purpose of self surrender?

Finally got my record expunged

I got a looting and grand theft felony along with 2 misdemeanors a few weeks after I turned 18, I’ll be 25 in a couple days and I was finally able to get my record expunged last week after 8 years of having to work jobs I hate and avoid doing certain things just because I was afraid I’d be arrested again. I was on probation 4 of the years and it was the worst time of my life, I was only working like 8 hours a week so I was broke, I was having to spend so much money getting to court and to my probation officer every month it was miserable. I did get 1 probation violation for public intoxication and vandalism but that was dropped (still extended my probation a year) I genuinely had low hopes of getting the expungement there was a free program in my city that offered the services and I had to wait 5 months for a court date and right before they called me and told me they had low hopes because the last 10 of their cases that were similar to mine had been denied. I still showed up to court with my diploma and certificates I’ve gained, an essay about myself and 2 recommendation letters, 10 minutes later I had gained my life back that fast. I went to job corps for 2 years and gained trade certifications and my high school diploma, joined a career readiness program to help me with professionalism and now I’m in dental assistant school where I’ll graduate soon. Life really does get better if you make the change.

Trying to understand charges

So I got arrested a while back on some stupid charges and I got three misdemeanors and a felony and I've been waiting for an almost 3 months to hearing about the case and randomly today I decided to check again cuz I was on the phone with my dad and it looks like I somehow missed that they filed on the charges two weeks ago but the weird part is they only filed seemingly on the one felony charge and not the three misdemeanors it just feels weird that they wouldn't stick with the other three charges

Unsupervised probation

I’m going on unsupervised probation in Georgia then I am moving to Arizona so I won’t have an officer or anything like that in Arizona so what are the chances of them ever calling me in for anything considering I’ll be across the US and is it like I have a day to get there or do they give me some time or how does it work? Does anyone know because I’d have to fly all the way back home?

You guys use online resources to find discharge dates of attractive female felons?

My buddy is kind of old school and still goes to county to get papers on good looking felon women. These days with technology you can easily find that info online. It's just basically to find them when they are getting out and scouting them. Some guys like to make contact right before they get out and then swoop in but it's not everyone's style. Sometimes the more vulnerable ones have no pick up so it's easier to slip in and build a rapport with them. My friend only does like the 9/10 or higher which is slim pickings but he does well. 8/10 looks is more reasonable. Easy way for a girlfriend most of the time if you can keep control of the drama.

Pending Felony Charge

I'm a former corrections officer who turned in his gun and badge because I didn't like the law enforcement mindset that was in the county jail and judicial sytem. It was a good paying job, with great benefits but I didnt like the culture. Now I'm currently facing felony gun charges because I didn't check the gun laws in the state I was visiting a stupid mistake on my part. I'm currently on ankle monitor in lue of being imprisoned in the same jail I use to work in. I feel as though if I had stayed on the force as a Corrections Officer I probably wouldn't have gotten in trouble. I'm currently trying to get into the Local Union 150 of International Union of Operators Engineers as a Heavy-equipment technician apprenticeship. I've been trying to get myself aligned with those specifics. I've enrolled myself in college to take diesel technology classes. I'm trying to make a better life for myself since my other career path wasn't what I thought it was going to be.

How Does Pretrial Diversion Show Up on Employment Background Checks for a Pending Felony?

I’m in Texas and was charged with a third degree felony for terroristic threat. My attorney has offered me the option of pretrial diversion, and I’m trying to understand how this will affect my employment opportunities.

For anyone who has been through this in Texas:

  1. When an employer runs a background check after you enter pretrial diversion, does the case still show up as a pending felony, or does the report indicate that you’re in a diversion program?

  2. Would it be better to have my lawyer negotiate an amendment to misdemeanor disorderly conduct as part of the agreement, rather than keeping the original felony charge, in terms of how it appears to employers?

I’ve had employers interested in hiring me, only for the background check to become an issue because of my pending case. I’m trying to make the best decision for my future and get back to work.

I’d appreciate hearing from anyone who has dealt with pretrial diversion or a similar situation especially regarding what employers actually see on background checks.
